I also have a Clam but bigger, lived in it for a month in Baja, but I love your size, very compact and practical. That moonroof computer fan(s) insert can also be designed to work in a car door window; a rear window. The fans can be powered by a small battery pack. I use corrugated plastic sheeting as the framework for the fans, it slides nicely into the window channels & it's weather proof.

Amanda linked it in the pinned comment at top - the orange camping rug. The reverse side is a turquoise color, which happens to be Amanda's favorite color. I think she sent Wynston over a couple of times to drag it out of my tent but he got distracted by treats.

Nice video. I have a Subaru Outback (went for length. Forester had higher headroom).
I have the same Thule (too-leh is how I’ve heard it pronounced). Couple of comments.
I believe that the Clam is a screen room not a tent. Tent implies more of a sleeping place that you can zip up and close the door. It’s 6’x6’ and would barely fit a cot.
Mine came with two panels. I was able to buy two more and was trying to make a door by cutting one panel into two sections. Don’t think I finished it.
The main thing I don’t like about the Clam is the weight and the packed length. I’m surprised the Clam fits inside that small roof box. I would have thought it would have to travel on top of the bed or strapped to the roof.
I’m a hair under 5’ and find the Clam awkward.

I'm a big fan of simple or no builds (that's what I have). This has a good use of space and the pull drawers doubling as added counter space is definitely a game changer. As for your Renorgy panel if for whatever reason you get a secondary power source you could take bungee balls or bungee cords and strap it onto your roof rail both horizontally or vertical and get your charge on. Adventure on my friends!!

We have a question for Gary! What is the thing that you have in your hatch so the lights don't come on? My sister has a Honda HRV and is thinking of trying it, but we can't really see exactly how you did it or what is stuck in there.

Thx for interviewing him on his Forester setup. I have a friend who has this newer type of Subaru Forester who was looking for ways to convert from urban daily driver mode to camper mode. Also, I appreciate seeing his smaller Clam tent setup since they pop right up. Using a shower curtain with carabiners is a good alternative to buying another side.

Does Gary have a link to the Weathertech window covers, including the rear hatch window cover?

Good job, was wondering what he stores in the front seat though? I just bought that same tent a month ago and am looking into a Subaru now. How fitting you just came out with this video.

Hi Amanda. Newer viewer of your channel. Really liked Gary’s tour. Would like to try to find the same outdoor motion lights he has. Would you know the brand by any chance? Thanks in advance.

Good job on the tour. And Gary has done a great job making his Subaru an adventure mobile. Although i was curious what he uses his front passenger seat for? Clothes I'm guessing?

It’s the smallest one Clam makes. 6x6x6 at the edges, and closer to 7x7x7 at the pop out points. I am 6’ tall and easily stand inside.

Question: About the hook in the hatch door in the lock mechanism, assuming it actually does “lock” the door. How do you then unlock the mechanism and get hook out.

    • @Teri728
      @Teri728 7 місяців тому

Because the door wouldn’t close if lock is activated???

    • @Gopepper

I push and hold the gate open button for a few seconds, which opens the latch and the carabiner is released.
