Enjoyed your video. I'm fascinated by car living - much more stealth than a van. I use my suv for car camping. I enjoy the challenge of making a small space a home away from home. I just bought a cargo carrier that fits in the back hitch of my suv. Can't wait to get on the road again. Oh. by the way - I'm 73 years old - which goes to show car camping is do-able and enjoyable at any age.
In my home in the winter so I don't have to use the AC heat as it's electric I cover myself with a Sherpa blanket and I will be moving into a vehicle in the fall and I have used a small Sherpa blanket when staying overnight in parking at casinos. The bigger Sherpa blanket will wrap around better for winter nights.

I lived in my van for nine months and I really worked on my mindset relative to what society has to say about other people’s lives. I’ve concluded that no one in our society is in a position to judge anyone else. Not one of us is perfect, or lives a perfect life. If we each committed to tend to our own affairs, we have more that a full time undertaking. You do you😊 and let others do themselves.

Keep it simple … as this is, nice. Thanks for sharing! When I was between 9 and 14 years old, my uncle would always ask my parents if they would allow me to accompany him on roadtrips during summer vacations. We would take 3 or 4 days, sometimes more traveling in a car. He taught me how to properly read a paper map (legend, symbols) and how to manually equate MPGs, distance to destination etc, etc. He made it fun. Not once do I recall, oddly enough, ever staying in a hotel or finding a campground or place to park for the night. He would just pull over, wherever he was, recline in the seat. I would curl up in the back with a blanket and pillow. I never once questioned it. I thought that was the way everyone did it. I always had a grand time. I’m 65 now … I’ve had plenty of different kind of vehicles, cars, trucks, SUVs, vans (many VW buses). I’ve kept my uncles tradition … completed the continental US, most all Canadian provinces and some of Mexico. Most of my European travel experiences have been by car but I’ve mixed it up a bit to include trains, ferries, buses etc. and of course airplanes. Thanks for sharing your personal travel experiences … enjoyed it much and takes me back …
I’m thinking of car living. I’ve been doing research and it seems everything I find was Van living. I own a 2016 outback and was trying to figure out how I could actually live and work out of it without buying a van. Thank you so much for this tour. You provided me with some inside full no need to get rid of my seats ideas. Great video.
It's really simple. start with the basic, be minimalist as much as possible, save all your cash and figure out as you go. there are a lot of car living in here in youtube. a lot of these van lifers mostly started as car living so watch their old videos.
The duct tape on the window covers smelled terrible. I had to toss them. But I used black out curtains and sewed them on the window covers. It is way more stealthy.

63 yr old female getting ready to retire with a Subaru Outback and trying to figure out how I can make that work, very doable looking at your video. Thanks for the grand tour. That is exactly what I needed to see and you’re very organized compared to others.
He doesn’t have a toilet and he doesn’t have a cat. A Subaru is easier than a Rav. Rav seats do not fold flat. I bought a Rav for reliability so have a bump and a slope in the bed. It was uncomfortable to sleep in. I’m 70 and it was really hard to maneuver inside with the three drawer plastic chest of drawers. I’m replacing them with transparent bags that I can grab and easily move out of the way or get things out of. I got bruised on the hard storage. I see he took out the bottom drawer, using containers instead which is a good idea especially to store things that you aren’t going to use all the time. I couldn’t pull the bottom drawer out because the bed was in the way. Here is my set up: My cat carrier and litter box pretty well took up the front passenger side of the car. I have both my back seats folded down. Toilet on the floor behind the drivers seat. Bed behind the passenger seat. Clean Cat litter on the back passenger floor under the top of the bed. Clothes on top of that. Clean in a duffle bag and dirty in a laundry bag. These things support the top of the bed. Something to put on my feet by the side of the door. I have a table that goes between the wheel wells and up over the bottom of the bed over my feet down by the hatch.. It has extendable legs for more height when I take it out for my kitchen. In the car it gives more storage. I put my pantry on top of it and my Jackery and collapsed camp chair and tie them all down. Then I can still put things under the table also when I’m driving. (The table also folds up). Almost all my other things were in the plastic chest of drawers like in the video. I’m thinking of getting a van but don’t know for sure since gas is so expensive. It would be so much easier and neater with a van. I almost bought a Subaru but they didn’t have a used one that was 2020 or younger. I had a Toyota Tercel before and had excellent luck with it so that’s why I got the Rav 4. But I do envy the fold flat seats of the Subaru.
Oh my toilet is inside at night and outside in the privacy tent in the daytime. Works well for me except maneuvering to get to it in the car, but probably will be easier next time with the bags.
Storing items in packing cubes or bags sound better as you can use them for pillows or squish into odd spaces or to even out the space when seats are folded down.
You are very organized. I'm sure that helps in making your days and nights go smoothly. It's very impressive and a great motivation for me to set some goals to be more organized in my daily life. God Bless!

I love your channel, Bren. Your attitude is great given the fact that a bunch of things are more difficult to do living in a vehicle vs. living in a building (as if I need to tell you!). You really managed to figure out all the ins and outs of living in a small vehicle, off-grid, in a place with very cold, snowy winters and hot, humid summers. Hats off to you! I may in a few years end up living in a minivan full time for financial reasons, and I take a lot of inspiration from you. I'm quite a bit older than you. Much better to wrap the reflectix with black felt (lessens glare) it's also less seen when the window covers are directly against the windows snuggly. The felt can also make them more snug fitting and stay in place. Can always add small magnets as well that terms to hook well to the steel of the door frame. I made my relectixs so well people just thought it was heavy tinting 😅 I also did some with matt black spray paint but i find after awhile it'll start to chip and scratch on the reflectix. Magnets and black felt can easily be found cheaply even at the dollar store as well

You and Jake McCollum have been one of my inspirations and courage to follow this lifestyle for the last 11 months!!! I love your videos!!! God bless you and Jake McCollum!! Thank you thank you!!
This is very similar to my setup. I'm in a Citroen c3 picasso. The back seats split 60/40. My dog's bed is on the 40 side, behind the drivers seat. The 60 side goes flat at night, and I use a futon with sleeping bag and duvet. The passenger seat has to be pulled as far forwards as possible and I use my cool box in the gap behind to rest the futon and pillow on. I'm 5'5" so I can just stretch out. The rear parcel shelf acts as a table. My Jackery sits behind the drivers seat with my toilet bag and night bag. Behind the dog's seat I have all my camping equipment/clothes etc. I use corrugated plastic sheets to make my window covers from. They sit flat under the futon during the day. In day mode, I have a rear seat cover and this is flipped over the front seats at night to give me privacy. I raise the front two head rests to cut the front area off from the back. I don't use a windscreen cover.
I plan on doing this in my outback as soon as it is paid off. I tow a teardrop camper with my outback for camping close to home but if I go for a long distance camping trip I have a 8 by 8 foot tent that hooks over the back of my car and it adds a lot of room on it.
Love the video! Big TMNT fangirl. Back in the pre internet days I saw a tiny little story in the paper about a new comic which led me to buying the first oversized one color TMNT comics. Still got em. ❤
I’m going to do this soon I was lucky enough to save enough over the last few years. I purchased a 2024 rav4 xle in January with cash . Going to start living in it next year
You have some gery good ideas in your set up. The little LED candle lights, the little fireplace, and the fact you don't waste space with bins and bags in your foot wells - you actually use them as containers themselves. You are very organized and your home on wheels looks very cozy. Nice job! Oh, and the TMNTs - gotta love 'em!
I lived in a 1985 Honda Accord across a long road trip, maybe 35-40 days. I detached the passenger seat and turned it to face the other way, allowing me to fully lie flat when I slept. I ended up cutting two pieces of 3/4 in plywood and two little 2x4 frames ti create a flat living surface. My head would be on the pillow under the hatch back window, staring at the stars.
tinted windows is a must for me even though i dont live in my car.. the privacy from prying eyes.. tinted windows bring more stealthy living i would assume in a small vehicle like yours
New to your channel and just subbed. Looks like a solid setup to me. And after tons of videos like this for years, you still managed to give me a few ideas.
I like that that you don't need clean person I really like it I enjoy when you talk about your little things and you get into your little sanctuary relax back watch a movie watch the rain what I like about you that you don't go to the forest you don't go to Jonathan places I don't like it people make videos of the mountain the waterfalls in this if I want to see that I just rent the movie I like to to explore and to hear what you do inside your car how to do grocery how you wash your clothes how you hook it up😊 how you be in your car chilling I like to see all that❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉
I keep a full cutlery set (with stainless steel straw and some chopsticks) in my driver side door. Toothbrush /toothpaste in the passenger side door. Always top up my water bottle everytime I stop. Gopd to keep rehydrated.
Great video was really inspired as looking to get out of an abusive relationship which may sound wierd as a guy in an abusive relationship but been thinking how do I set up car living as don’t have any know how when it comes to diy. Will probably rewatch multiple times to keep inspiring. Take care
Great idea to take out bottom drawer. Hey, Walmart, fishing section, has these great clear... narrow... 16"x6"x4" (?) containers. They fit well behind the seat. Great thing about them is the hinged lid pulls horizontal and there is a handle that folds flesh to container... on side. I use a few for food. I love it, one for breakfast, one for lunch/snack, another dinner. I use the dividers as needed. Nice setup. Did you put anything down like a rug or mat on floor for under mattress?
Yeah I don't know how people do it in summer in town. Lots of van lifers go to the mountains in summer. One lady in TX slept parked by a marina and git a breeze off the water...still seems too hot to me.
Wow, very cool! This is my first time on your channel ☺️ I love how organized you are and how well you make use of every nook and cranny. Everything has its place 😀 Thanks for the grand tour :)
Hey I like your setup I have a 2011 outback and want to have a bed set up like yours so I can pull up for the night after travelling and have a comfortable sleep, where did you get the mattress?
Greetings from Argentina, i loved the way u made some kind of curtains to get privacy, it gave me such a memory of my childhood where i loved to cover the windows of the car so no one could see me

Thanks. ... and no smoke from the fire, nice.
That is a very comfy and functional setup. I have always been interested in small, comfortable places. They are just so cozy and safe feeling.
Thank you for the tour. Like your setup very comfy and cozy. Looks like you've figured it all out. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the advice! I got a lot of good ideas, and enjoyed seeing your set up. Happy trails!
Living and working out of your car! That Subaru is like your exoskeleton.
Enjoying this channel sir, keep up the good work🙏🏽
Thanks 👍
Chill mode❤️. I love the lounge!
Bren , i feel for you, and hope your channel will grow like over 1M subscribers!
New to your channel and just subbed. Looks like a solid setup to me. And after tons of videos like this for years, you still managed to give me a few ideas.
so neat and organized!
Wonderful. I'm going to start watching Ninja movies!
Buy one of those pine scented air fresheners for when your iPad has the fire crackling.
The fireplace is cool
Wow! Very organized and well thought out. You do a great job of optimizing small space living. Nice job!
Thank you!
This was awesome, thanks for sharing. I one day will be in my car getting to kno places in my own back yard which is the USA.
Wow, thats so impressive, thanks for sharing 🙏🙏🙏
New Subscriber here. Your set up at night looks lovely and comfortable. I am just starting to live in my car so this was a good video to watch.
Great idea, nothing under the mattress
How do you shower? How do you stay warm at night...no heater? How about staying cool in Sumner when sleeping? Is the fan enough?
Amazing…I could not imagine living in my Outback but, you have done an amazing job of making it work for you !!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Bren, awesome to see the setup in the new Subaru. Appreciate you sharing the no build living and organization of your stuff. 🟢
Love your set up. We'll organized but very practical. Thanks for sharing. Love the Ninja Turtle buds.
Great video man. Cool build. You seem like a really wonderful guy :) thanks for posting and stay safe out on the road!
Thanks, you too!
Comfy & relaxing vibe inside
For milk, why not get a good size thermos and store milk in that? especially in winter it should keep for a couple days
That’s actually a great idea, thank you! Might try.
Bro get a set of the glacier mugs and get one handle to go with. They keep ice for 24 hrs and same with hot beverages!
Something good will come your way. I wish you the best.
You can definitely use containers to keep your groceries more organized.
The cutest, coziest stealthiest setup. This is good.
I really want that cracklin fireplace Is it a heater?
No it’s an iPad
@@brenpgrace ok. Thanks.
I would be interested to see how the seat lays flat to put the mattress on. I haven't figured that out yet. Nice video!
I lived out of my outback for a bit but couldn’t do the summer. If i ever have to, I’ll definitely try some of your setup.
Yeah I don't know how people do it in summer in town. Lots of van lifers go to the mountains in summer. One lady in TX slept parked by a marina and git a breeze off the water...still seems too hot to me.
Really nice, super organized! Love this!
Looks very cozy & well organized. Thanks for sharing. Safe travels.
Thanks for watching!
Wow, very cool! This is my first time on your channel ☺️
I love how organized you are and how well you make use of every nook and cranny. Everything has its place 😀
Thanks for the grand tour :)
I do the same in Maine with my 2023 Rav4, I love it. Keep it up bro. 👏
Thanks! Will do!
Love your road buddies
I love your attitude. Keep it up my friend. I pray you own a house one day.
Hey I like your setup I have a 2011 outback and want to have a bed set up like yours so I can pull up for the night after travelling and have a comfortable sleep, where did you get the mattress?
I love that it looks like you cook for real
I was interested in Vanlife/car life, and your video gave me lots of great ideas and inspiration! Thank you so much!
Nice little setup, stay safe :)
Will do, thanks for watching!
Greetings from Argentina, i loved the way u made some kind of curtains to get privacy, it gave me such a memory of my childhood where i loved to cover the windows of the car so no one could see me
Hi Bren. I have a 2019 Outback. How do you get your bed flat with the backseat down? Mine is at an angle. Or have you got a prop to flatten it out?
Love the video. U are so organized!
Impressive, got some good tips for car camping 😊
Very good. Neat and organized 😊
Great video! I wouldn't keep much in the passenger seat. Many smash and grabs when there might be a laptop inside. Even if you are inside 😢
Well done and stay safe, God bless you.
Michelangelo and spinach officially makes you RULER of the planet ❤❤❤❤❤
I had no plans to get an outback but it happened this year. Bigger than im used to so learning what I can do with all the extra space. 😅
you should def have more water than that on hand. nice vibe!
Love your channel. Just found you today. I’m prepping for full time minivan living by August. In the prep/education stage. 🙏
Best of luck!
I’ll need it! Thank you!
Arenges. 🍊 😍 I haven't heard it pronounced that way since moving away from NJ in 1985. Have been between CO, MO, and KS (back to CO) since then and it's definitely a full on o in orange out here. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
