This principle worked 150 years ago on Victorian carriage lamps. Great idea for camping, if a little costly to run. I like the portability and compactness. Good product and good presentation.
Thinking about one of these. Would I be correct or wrong in thinking that once the lantern is lit it is safe to stand it on any surface without any concern for fire or heat damage or fire risk? Just thinking if it's Ok to stand it on an ordinary table for hours during a home power outage?
I got the 1 and 3 candle version and am looking forward to using them this weekend in a snow cave camp. I melted my glove on the top not my puffy playing around with it, it gets hot!
SUGGESTION- An option you might want to experiment with to increase the additional heat the lantern can provide. I made a circular "heat shield" from an aluminum can and it attaches it to the top by making slots in it to attach to the handle. In addition to the added heat, it provides a surprising amount of more reflective light. Great review of the lantern btw.
Cut the bottom & top off the can, cut can up the side and create a flat aluminum piece to cut your circle shape from it. I would suggest making a paper model first, so you know the shape & place to cut out slits to attach to the handle. Kind of attaches to the handle with the same principle that the underneath ash tray attaches to the legs of a Weber Grill, if that makes sense. Look at a pic of a Weber Grill to see what I/m suggesting. Hope this makes sense.
Good idea. There is a Pac-Flat reflector on eBay that I think is what you are aiming for. Looks like something that could be made from an aluminum can to me.
Cut off the entire bottom & top of can, which will leave you with an aluminum tube, basically. Cut up the side of the "tube" and flatten. Now, you will have a sheet of aluminum, which you can now transfer your paper pattern onto.
my grandfather was an iron stone miner and they were given a 9 hour burn time candle and a tin to put it in. when candle burnt down your shift was finished. 🏴
@@outdooriowan I like to say that real life is always grittier and rougher than we dream it up in our heads, but the magic is in the "doing"... like you are with your channel. I posted my first video in 2016, and had 23 subs this past May. I think you are doing better than I did :)
@@RestlessWonderer thank you. I need to get out and make a video. Thanks again. I'm trying to put together a UA-camr meet it in NE Iowa at the Yellow River State Forest. I know it's a long haul for you but figured I'd send you an invite. I'm thinking late March or early April.
That was crazy to wake up to, and I ended up melting one of my boot strings by the fire that morning. May have to get real winter gear at some point :)

Thanks!
Next, I may have to bring back the carbide headlamp :)

Well that’s the best review of one of these I’ve seen. Great job man.
Shoot, you got a decent channel here altogether. Subbed buddy
lol, thank you very much.
Thank you... have been using this a lot recently.

Very cool! Good luck with the snow cave... sound like a fun adventure.
very good review, told me what I wanted to know if it was warm and how to clean it
It won't heat a tent but it will reduce the humidity and make the tent more comfortable.
I have four season mountaineering tent with a ceiling vent. I hang my UCO lantern under it. That eliminated the dampness and condensation.
It really does help with the condensation.
Just found your channel. Great review and use of dry humor 😂😂
Thanks. Appreciate the comment and look forward to seeing you around :)

That is a great idea, and something I am going to try. Are you making a cone from the side of the can, or cutting out the bottom whole?

Looks sweet I think I'm going to get the larger one that holds 3 candles for my winter camping. Keep up the videos.
That three candle version looks awesome...5,000 BTU of heat and can even boil water on the top. Thank you very much for the comment.
@@RestlessWonderer anytime man. I enjoy your videos. I'm trying to build up my own UA-cam channel but it's not going well.

Lots of “that’s what she said” content here. 🤣

Awesome review, Holy frozen boots lol that must have been fun putting back on

Used mine for first time, love it, I did get some wax in the housing, great review and tips
It makes me wonder how much hear that 3 candle version puts off with the advertised 5000 BTU.
Nice little lantern.
It really is a cool piece of gear... now I might have to try a carbide headlamp :)
@@RestlessWonderer I had one of the old mining ones at one time when I was a kid... Used to use it on my trap line...LOL
I have one frome the 70s that was my uncles from the scouts
They are pretty cool... i am going to break mine back out once it starts cooling off.
It's a shame that UCO decided to have these made in China. The springs are too weak, some parts are too sharp and will cut you if you are not careful.
My brass one is 49 years old like Me
Damn... wonder if the new ones will last as long. 40's have been good to me far... just a little more tired :)
I'm sure they will. I still have the price sticker on the bottom 25.96 lol
Is the coil spring removable?
Yes it is... it can stick if there is melted wax on it, but it is removable.
@@RestlessWonderer Thanks for the info!
Hahahahaha Hahahahahahah
:)
$26 for a candel holder.
