They are performing in different times. Someone born in my time can't relate to how radical and ingenious Pryor was at that time because we didn't live in the era. Dave is the absolute best for my generation. In 50 or 60 yrs people will say someone surpassed Dave and I probably won't be around to tell them... who Dave was to us.

I've seen Dave a few times. His ability to captivate your attention is something that can not be transferred through a screen. He is hypnotizing, you hang on every word he says and you never know where he is going but when he arrives there is brilliance but through a punch of hilarity. I think what separates Chappelle from Carlin is that with Carlin, you always got the sense that the things he said, while hilarious and enlightening, were rehearsed. His delivery was a bit forced and he rarely gave the audience a second to absorb it. Chappelle lets the audience absorb. His delivery is better. The man said "Juicy Smool-yay" and let the audience figure it out, and it was absolutely masterful. Carlin could never do that. He would have kept going like nothing just happened.
The fact he’s been doing comedy since he was fourteen…fourteen- a child working in a wise man’s world and holding his own, remaining relevant, building a life of substance, respect, purpose and ethical conviction is what makes him the GOAT….not one scandal, not one overdose, no divorce, a father, a man’s man and unapologetically genuine in presenting himself to the world. The thought process that develops Dave's material comes from a deeper place, maybe more intellectual and probably more weed. Second, Dave was probably never afraid of being canceled because he had already canceled himself once before. He has already experienced what life is like post stardom so at this point in his career, what is there to be afraid of? The healing power of laughter is underrated. In my opinion, comedians of all levels, are some of the true heroes of the 2020 epidemic. being able to pull up a video, laugh out loud, while facing social, financial, and health challenges for some people, a good laugh is priceless. But most people will rarely experience the true gift of laughter because they are too busy focusing on what might be offensive instead of the gift that's being delivered to their doorstep in the form of standup comedy. In my opinion, your sole purpose for viewing/listening to a standup comedian is to find something that makes you laugh. Not to determine whether or not he/she is a good person, who cares! It's just a profession called comedy.

Dave walked away from the spotlight for a few years and turned down his 50 million dollar deal, Eminem turned down a music tour with Dr dre 50 cent and snoop dogg because he wanted to spend more time with his kids. They both took a hiatus and came back and continued to be successful, and both of them disappear from the public eye until they’re ready to release something.
It's unbelievable that when I was in high school and Chappelle's Show was the ultimate thing on TV, this was when Chris Rock and Eddie Murphy were considered the best. Then this guy that people might have recognized from Half-Baked or Robin Hood: Men in Tights suddenly finds his footing. Now, almost 20 years later, I'm watching clips of those other two comedians paying homage to someone that is their junior. It's mind-boggling to see just how quickly and indisputably someone can jump to the next level and leapfrog the next and then reach all the way to the top.

My take on Dave Chappelle is what puts him heads and shoulders above ANY comedian alive today is that he can criticize, tell a story, make a comment about the state of society and make a point but not be mean-spirited about it, AND STILL BE FUNNY. It seems simple but it's actually very hard; to be sensitive and kind but still be edgy and ruthless. No one I've seen does it better.
I love Dave Chappelle,because he is intelligent articulate and kind as a man and funny l always laugh because he makes sense and is a product of his beautiful Mom.
George Carlin was also a very intellectual comedian, but his weakness was sometimes his routines came across as a rant or a lecture (even though still very funny), but with Dave it never feels like a lecture and I feel he has more subtlety/nuance than George, even though in some ways I prefer Carlin’s material.

It's his fearlessness that makes him stand out.
The level of respect comedians have for DC is something I have never seen b4, they look at him almost like a mythical man, even Eddie Murphy who's basically a legend acknowledges Chapelle's greatness; no one has this kind of strength now a days, the courage/resource/talent to survive for 10 years without a strong $ flow is unheard of but the most amazing thing is when he comes back! he just picks where he left off!

I agree, both of them don’t give a fuck about public opinion and have no problem walking away from the money. Dave walked away from the spotlight for a few years and turned down his 50 million dollar deal, Eminem turned down a music tour with Dr dre 50 cent and snoop dogg because he wanted to spend more time with his kids. They both took a hiatus and came back and continued to be successful, and both of them disappear from the public eye until they’re ready to release something.

It's unbelievable that when I was in high school and Chappelle's Show was the ultimate thing on TV, this was when Chris Rock and Eddie Murphy were considered the best. Then this guy that people might have recognized from Half-Baked or Robin Hood: Men in Tights suddenly finds his footing. Now, almost 20 years later, I'm watching clips of those other two comedians paying homage to someone that is their junior. It's mind-boggling to see just how quickly and indisputably someone can jump to the next level and leapfrog the next and then reach all the way to the top.
Dave Chappelle's spirit is needed in the comedic world because it opens up the eyes of other comedians .

Yea, well they are all great, but two stand out beyond, Dave and Bill. These two individuals are outstanding in their ability to get their overall insight across. Always to the point and funny as hell. Their ability to stand there and be and say what should be said. Not many comedians hold my attention, but I never get sick of hearing these two greats.

My take on Dave Chappelle is what puts him heads and shoulders above ANY comedian alive today is that he can criticize, tell a story, make a comment about the state of society and make a point but not be mean-spirited about it, AND STILL BE FUNNY. It seems simple but it's actually very hard; to be sensitive and kind but still be edgy and ruthless. No one I've seen does it better.

He is right on the money. Dave is very intellectual in his stand ups.
George Carlin was also a very intellectual comedian, but his weakness was sometimes his routines came across as a rant or a lecture (even though still very funny), but with Dave it never feels like a lecture and I feel he has more subtlety/nuance than George, even though in some ways I prefer Carlin’s material.
