I like the 2003 version best because i think that it just adds more depth to the wendy and peter arch. In all of the other adaptations ive watched and read they always have peter seeing wendy in a mother role which i understand was the initial intentions but the 2003 added the romance element. To me it made it better because wendys whole issue about not wanting to grow fit so well with those emotions. And young girls and boys i think can resonate a lot with that. Knowing that dating and such is coming up (and marriage for wendy considering the time it was) is so scary and ichy for kids that ofc you wouldnt want to grow up. But meeting peter and him having that freedom that wendy wanted so desperately and wanting to stay with peter to feel that freedom but then realizing that shes starting to feel for him and in order to understand those feeling she has to grow up means so much. Even more so when you see peter start to feel the same but ultimately have to give up on any type of love because he cannot fully understand it without growing up. Its so idk impactful in my opinion and definitely adds a saddness to Peters character in general.
I can't take a person seriously who puts the new soulless garbage Peter Pan and Wendy movie above Hook and Return to Neverland. Those 2 movies were actually made with love and passion and genuine care. Peter Pan and Wendy is just yet another soulless cashgrab with really forced in girl power BS. Which you conveniently avoided addressing.
I really don’t understand this tier list. A lot of the top choices are so niche and unheard of. I’m really shocked at the placement of Peter Pan 2003 as it’s the most book accurate and really dives into the original themes of peterpan. I especially don’t understand the placement of peterpan and Wendy ranking higher than hook and “Disney’speterpan2” I understand this tier list is out of more personal opinion, but I cant say it’s the most agreeable :/
Hook is my favorite just because I'm a 90's kid and it brings back SO many good memories. I disagree with you about the story. it's VERY 90's, but but you DO understand all the character's motivations. By pure chance I bought the 1924 version for sale at best buy about 5 years ago. I like it, but that movie is NOT for todays kids. there's TOO MUCH implied subtext going on in that movie that might be unintentionally misinterpreted. It's stupid and it sucks, but that's the way it is.
Exceptional content! I clicked on this for coverage of Peter Pan theatre and was pleased to see you covered all the main ones. You could've discussed the Peter Pan opera however, or Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens which I had the great fortune of seeing over a decade ago. Still, superb work and one of the best videos I've seen on this platform.
I saw those Pirates singing Smells Like Teen Spirit in 2015, when I was 15, and dude I was sitting there in starry eyed wonder. I fricken loved that stuff. I went, hi king, you got swag, you're my favorite. Am I gay?
if you only watched the first few episodes, you missed that the Japanese Peter Pan has an entire original second arc about the Princess of Neverland and the Black Mirror, it's pretty great. Also, it's kinda weird seeing the Disney Peter Pan take the top spot, Disney himself wasn't super satisfied with how it turned out. Then again, I'm also part of the chorus that would've put 2003 in the top spot. Good list though, I'll check out that Angelina Jolie one stat.
One of my favorite videos you’ve made so far!!! I definitely have to check out the original from 1924, it looks so cool! Thanks for taking the time to make such a great video 😊✨
I'd place Hook way higher, but liked this list nevertheless. The time and effort you put into it is truly impressive. As a kid, I saw The Adventures of Peter Pan (the anime series on your list) and loved it. I waited every week to watch it and years later, even quoted lines from its theme song (which I think the English version lacks) on a review I wrote about Finding Neverland. Being a kid in Israel in the late 80's, my favorite adaptation is a stage musical starring Hanoch Rosen and Chani Nachmias. It had a good cast, decent songs and I remember how other kids and I tried to see the wires.
Am i the only one who doesn't have a problem with the natives in basically any version of this story? i just don't think it's as bad as everyone says it is
Such a depth of knowledge! So well done. Thanks for introducing me to some Peter Pan versions I really should check out. Would love to see an assessment of Little Mermaid especially with the excitement we are all seeing with the new version coming our way.
Thank you! I’m not sure if I’d ever undertake such a huge project again, but I did enjoy it a lot! I love the Peter Pan story more than any other and it was a labor of love.
To be fair, the current explosion of adaptations is probably because it only entered the public domain _very_ recently, due to the owners of the copyright being a children's hospital that the government kept making special exemptions for. Computer effects were used throughout the Disney Renaissance, they were just less noticeable. Disney did invent a lot of snow animation software for Frozen, so it's more than possible it was used here, especially considering Frozen's long production history. I'd say that the Lost Boys was an edgy Peter Pan adaptation in its early stages, but it got changed further during the pre- production. I highly recommend Kensington Gardens by Rodrigo Fresan. It's a novel about a children's author recounting both his life story as the son of two sixties musicians and the story of JM Barrie. It's a very weird and wonderful book. Great video as always!
Amazingly well done, Peter Pan will always be one of my favorite stories. I know you didn't talk about tv/cartoon versions much, but I especially liked Peter Pan and the Pirate's from the 90's. The best part was having the illustrious Tim Curry as Captian Hook. As far as future videos go though, maybe you could look into TheThree Musketeers, I'd like to see that.
It seems all of the comments on this video are being deleted (not sure if this one will make it through or not!). I don’t know why that is but I will try and get them back up if possible! I think UA-cam is automatically flagging this video as Made For Kids, due to the family-friendly subject matter, maybe? It’s annoying, but I will keep trying to get them up! In the meantime, thank you all for the support and the nice comments that were left on here :).
I came here to find the direct to video version that I'd seen as a little boy in the early 2000s. I think it may have been the 88' film, mainly down to Peters' brown attire and the general background art. Good video btw
Hi great video. I am obsessed with Peter Pan I even made my own film 🎥 version of the story on my UA-cam channel. Just a warning ⚠️ it’s very low budget, low tech and amateurish but my friends and I had a fun time making it. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it and wonder if you would like to check it out and let us know what you think of it.
Even though I am being told The Lost Girls is irredeemably bad, I want to watch it now. I hadn't heard of it before. It sounds like a super interesting concept.
While you made it very clear you were not reviewing series, even if you did cheat a little with the anime version, reviewing the first episodes the cover the events of the original story, I think you could still have given a shout out to various series that have something significant to offer, even if you were not giving them a full review. Of those Foxes Peter Pan and the Pirates deserves a mention for having, in my view, the greatest Hook and also handling the "Indians" on the island with greater respectability that I think was spurred in part by the rivalry Fox had with Disney at the time and them wanting to clearly hammer the weakest element of the Disney film. With your obvious passion for the source material it would be cool if decided to make a follow up vid looking at series in the future.
Dude, you got so much of this wrong. First of all, they wanna MJ for Peter Pan in Hook. They were very interested in casting him. It was MJ who turned the role down because he didn't want it to include an adult Peter Pan. And you're bigger wrong. Cathy Rigby's Peter Pan is one of the best versions out there. No weak songs. Dude, I'm the biggest Peter Pan alive. You know the legends. I know the facts. I studied Barrie in depth. I even own the book of the official sequel that hardly anyone has heard.
How is Disney’s Peter Pan and Wendy not at the bottom of your list? I didn’t even watch it but from watching commentators here on UA-cam review it, and from everything else I heard, it was just AWFUL.
Issue: Aaron Carter, MacCauley Culkin, and similar Justin-Butthole-that-all-the-girls-want-to-get-graped-by, speak out in defence of MJ, when there is no reason for them to do so, they could be getting more pussy, more money, and more money for underage pusstitussy, by saying "all men are ugly, nasty pedos, that infect the sexy white Aryan supremacist with n-word ugly sex harm". Females love that "wolf in sheep's clothing" sort of the thing, it makes them feel more deserving of special victim attention, they couldn't earn otherwise.
Can I ask you to do a towline of all Peter Pan movies just those that is in continuity with who and with what I would like to know because I don’t have all of them. I just have a fair pan. I got Peter Pan. I got Neverland. I got hook. It’s hard to tell where they all Lineup together about a video to show how they lineup together what is the right order to play these movies so I’d ask you about it. Don’t mind me question.
How could you say that about the Peter Pan musical I don't care what anybody says. It is better than all of the Peter Pan universe. Any Peter Pan thing you can think of gar badge compared to it. And it's especially because of. What they did with TikTok crock, which is the most important thing of every Peter Pan film. And honestly, it's the best version, it's a 10 out of 10. In fact it's a infinity out of ten Or maybe even a beyond out of 10.
Saw a nice theory on the internet: what if Captain Hook is only going after Peter Pan to stop him from kidnapping more kids? Captain Hook only goes after Peter Pan, never the kids. 😉
He makes the lost boys walk the plank, genius. And Captain Hook casually kills his own men for mildly annoying him. It would make no sense for him to be that noble.
@@kurvos A lot of anti-gay hate preachers fighting for good Christian family values end up getting caught with their pants down at a 50 man no condom gay orgy! There is no contradiction between pedophile hunter and hypocrite sociopath - it's often the same thing. Something we call jealousy. On the subject of killing one's own, many adaption make a point of a certain "rotation" in the lost boys - Peter makes them "disappear" (possibly murder), when they "become boring" (complain about gay grape), or grow too old, to respect his authority / appear desirable.
I am disappointed with your opinion of Jake and the neverland pirates. The theme song alone outranks half these movies, and for a Disney JUNIOR show I think its just the right amount of "young"
... i don't understand how the disney animated one can be put as the top one... I had a very hard time sitting through it when I watched it... The misogony and racism was way too much for me 😭 I liked the live action disney one much better than it and I pretty much agree with every negative thing said about that one here. I would just much rather sit through poor pacing, dull colors, and the silly sympathetic villain idea, than sit through what the animated one is. The animated one makes me want to pull my hair out while the live action makes me want to get a snack cuz i'm just a little bored. And then there are so many films mentioned here that are far better so I don't get it at all 😭

2003 and hook are for me the best adaptations of peter pan that the cinema has ever given us
Peter Pan 2003 will always have my heart ❤ It captures such whimsy and depth. The relationship between Wedlndy and Peter is so beautiful and tragic. 🥺
I can't take a person seriously who puts the new soulless garbage Peter Pan and Wendy movie above Hook and Return to Neverland.

Mine too i love hook i seen it a 400 times
Sorry, but for me its:
2003's
Finding Neverland
Hook
Disney's 1957 animated
I want to watch 2020's Wendy
And that's it

People missing the point when Talking about the effects of the 2003 version
I saw those Pirates singing Smells Like Teen Spirit in 2015, when I was 15, and dude I was sitting there in starry eyed wonder. I fricken loved that stuff.
I went, hi king, you got swag, you're my favorite. Am I gay?
HIS COSTUME MAN. It's so good. Look at his skirt. Look how flamboyant. I adore him.

Is medieval knights racist against brits? To me it's "there used to be this cool thing, that doesn't really work no more"
Such a depth of knowledge! So well done. Thanks for introducing me to some Peter Pan versions I really should check out. Would love to see an assessment of Little Mermaid especially with the excitement we are all seeing with the new version coming our way.
Thank you for watching! Yeah, The Little Mermaid would be a great option, and it’s one of the only Disney live-action remakes that I’m excited for!
Tinker Bell secret of the wings by far the best!!! #teambobble
#teamclank
Secret of the Wings should be number 1 but there was a mistake in editing #teamclank
"Peter Pan: Return To Neverland" and "A Goofy Movie" were not direct-to-DVD, they were theatrically released motion pictures.
Wow loved this video!! I would love to see another ranking of all the Cinderella films or even the little mermaid!! Can’t wait to see what you do next
Ooh Cinderella is a great idea! They could do the direct to dvd sequels and the live action remake and the Cinderella Story/Another Cinderella Story!
Thanks :)) Cinderella would be fun!
46:35: I am a surgeon. I AM A SURGEON, DR. HAN!
What an incredible in-depth effort! Really enjoyed watching and added a few of these to the watchlist. Well two movies. But still! 😂

The chapters seem to be gone, too!
Peter pan is actually pretty dark so dark re-imaginings actually make sense if done right.
Lost boys is definitely an incredible film! One of the best I’ve ever seen
2003 is my Peter Pan and my first childhood crush. Peter in the Disney version is a psychopath
I came here to find the direct to video version that I'd seen as a little boy in the early 2000s. I think it may have been the 88' film, mainly down to Peters' brown attire and the general background art. Good video btw

You should see the horror peter pan neverland nightmare when it comes out next year

omg I am 100% going to go watch the vampire Lost Boys when this is done, that looks so up my ally aahh
Nana II is referencing the stage play.
Even though I am being told The Lost Girls is irredeemably bad, I want to watch it now. I hadn't heard of it before. It sounds like a super interesting concept.
Return To Neverland did get a cinema release in Australia in 2002.
So good thank you 😊

Christ, everyone gets mad over the Indians. Calm down, it really isn't a big deal
Does anyone know where I can see the english dub of Peter Pan no Bouken?
neverland 2011 should be higher idgaf

They made more tinkerbell films because of little lesbian girls like me who were obsessed with the fairies franchise.
