CRASHING A Pay-to-Win Minecraft Server with 100,000 Snowballs - #2
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 вер 2024
- Hey ya'll! Today, we use a ridiculous mechanism to generate 100,000 Snowballs and INSTANTLY stop this Pay-to-win Minecraft server! This server sells crate keys, 200 dollar ranks, and has over 2000 players, making Pay-to-win on it especially damaging, as it ruins gameplay and makes the game totally unfair to play on!
This was recorded more than a year ago at this point, but due to data loss, I lost all the video and the motivation to upload anything. It's why I slowed down so much. But apparently, an old external drive that I gave to relatives was never even used by them and just sat in a closet, so I got it back, used data recovery software, and voila, we're back.
The machine was designed by LastWanderer, a really brilliant dude! / lastwanderer

Best part about this is eventually the server will have to “patch” so many basic features like redstone clocks that it will be unplayable anyway
That's not how patching out exploits works, but ok 🙄.
@@DxBlack not as if the server "devs" would have a basic understanding of how minecraft works but ok.
@@DxBlack well you effectively modify the default behaviour of the game to prevent an exploit if you do this on and on and on you do limit the playability of the game, probably breaking some farms or contraptions in the process which pisses players off
@@DxBlack Snow golems can't throw snowballs? Welp, now you've stopped certain farms which use that. Like mob drop farms that rely on snow golems to push mobs into waterflow, or into a hole. Redstone clocks patched out and disabled? There goes any pulsating machine that exists for any reason. Patch donkeys from having chests, and now one of the only reasons donkeys exist is gone. That's definitely how patching works, ESPECIALLY for these 15-20 year old P2W Minecraft server hosts. @@The_Horizon interesting

Bruh had the same idea before reading this comment xd
With the enemy's defenses improving, a new strategy is necessary. I have a proposal.
What your team has been performing is effectively a localized denial of service, not a DISTRIBUTED denial of service. Clearly, the time investment your team puts into these attacks is less effective per hour when it can be undone by a single, easily discoverable mistake on the part of anyone on your team.
Therefore, distribute your chaos. Rather than make one very localized lag machine where no one would reasonably build... *distribute many smaller, less individually effective machines throughout normally built areas that would be loaded by players constantly.* Not things that can be interpreted as a lag machine, mind you, but simple tools that, at a glance, appear legitimate at best, experimentally dumb machines made by newbies at worst.
Not only are these systems hiding in plain sight, they are easily constructed in small time frames. Their impact on the server would be VASTLY hidden because the administrators wouldn't interpret tiny, always-on bases as an attack, but rather will erroneously attribute these bases as an increase of player activity. Further, because they would be placed underneath or around other players' bases, the admins would assume those bases were part of another player's area. Further, it's harder to use world edit to erase these bases because any player who was accidentally caught in the crossfire would be rightfully pissed and may leave.
Some bases will be destroyed by other players, sure. And maybe the admins would catch on to a few of them. But these TINY generators are simply "fire and forget," meaning you won't have to be around them to have them operating and they won't lead to you getting caught. AND, if you vary what kinds of machines you build, they won't be discovered as quickly as you can build them.
So with your whole team rotating accounts and placing them gradually over the server's entire inhabited area, you can very slowly ratchet down the TPS until the entire server is choking for air, with the admins unable to determine or understand WHY, because they'll be looking for a greater lag machine and not a bunch of small farms, contraptions, and infinite state rube goldbergs hiding just a few dozen blocks underground, EVERYWHERE.
Just a thought. No matter how it goes though, kick some ass, dudes. P2Wers are wallet drainers of children, and should be ferreted out and eliminated wherever they appear.
Give this man a nobel prize. Genius

"The villagers, however, did not share the same enthusiasm. Instead, they laughed at me; one even asked, 'What, are you going to poke the monsters to death with those twigs?' They were right, I certainly didn't have the strength as the iron giants. But I wasn't going to let that stop me. I would find another way to fight evil.
"I remembered back to my childhood play; I used to pelt my friends with snowballs (much to their annoyance). I began practicing my throw, and I was able to improve enough to hit a target from 10 meters away with considerable oomph. Once again, though, the villagers laughed. 'How are snowballs going to keep us safe?' they mockingly asked. Suddenly, a raid had begun. This was the perfect time to show the villagers that I could protect them too! I began throwing snowballs with all my might!
"...but the raiders only seemed annoyed, nor did they halt their attacks. I threw snowball after snowball, but they didn't have any effect on the battle.
"The next few weeks were rough. The villagers continued to laugh at me, the Iron Golems ignored me, and my friends avoided me lest they be mocked as well. Maybe the villagers were right...maybe I wasn't meant to be a hero...
"As I reached my lowest point, I was approached by two young lads. They said they were looking to take down some shady people. 'What can I do?' I asked sadly. 'All I can do is throw harmless snowballs.'
"The two lads smiled. One placed a gentle hand on my shoulder and said, 'And that is exactly why we need you.'"

But that would be logical, and they can’t do that.
@@KobeKeats Well in terms of removing the lag machine, yeah they probably should of reset the chunks.

@@hazardousyt8233 by using a hopper, dispenser and a crafting table you can create a somewhat-decent lag machine that will just create a gazillion of boats. As you have mentioned. In many lag machines, the best way to patch it out is by disabling a major part of the game or mechanic. In this video, the mods end up disabling the ability of snow golems to attack other mobs, this means snow golem-based auto farms are now wack. But considering all the other things that could have been removed, this one is very mild. The best one I can think of is the lag "machine" in the latest video where they simply spam crafting options, causing lag. Ultimately, the mods disabled crafting entirely. Quite literally turning the game into just _MINE_ .
Both mods and crashers are in an arms race that will eventually end up making the server completely unplayable for the average player.

Yeah, your health should be more important than a P2W Minecraft server.
they could've even made up a lie about "we thought setting despawn time of snowballs to 15s would be enough" no they literally just went "we fell asleep lmao"
So, the “unloaded snowballs are causing lag by appearing in the servers ram” created a fun clock for you while also showing how much actual information you were forcing the server to save. What a legend
Instead of having an obvious crash machine was was thinking you could just have one long term, weaker lag machine that brought the tps down like like 8 or something so players would eventually get frustrated and leave, like a machine such as this but on a smaller scale and constantly running.
This is a good idea. This way you could make multiple of them and gradually amp up the lag so it dishes out more impact. It also means the machines will take longer to find and there is a smaller chance of getting caught and banned
Or have 10 of them with entities spread out
Ultra-compact low power lag machines spread across a bunch of high-traffic areas.
Crashing the server is nice and all but the real frustration comes from the server just barely being playable.

They'll probably just straight up disable it
Can we just take a minute to appreciate the level of detail when it comes to explaining the machine and pure details of it.
Here's an idea: if removing the lagging feature is the way of the admins, then why not make a lag machine with something like boats or arrows?

I love that their approach to "patching" lag machines is to just ban redstone clocks. A very basic and fundamental feature of Minecraft. Effectively making the server basic and unplayable.

The moment you said that there was lag just from the entities in RAM, I thought you were going to use that. Seriously, a lag machine that, even if not as effective, still works when the chunks aren't loaded would make the machine near impossible to track down, meaning you could make it annoying to play rather than crashing it.
Forcing rollback after rollback would probably be worse than having the entire server crash in such an obvious way.
if it is named mobs, I would not be surprised if there is a way to track them down in the world data file and just tp right to them.
All of that will vanish after a quick restart
@@The_Horizon Restart of the whole server, or just you leaving and returning? Because if the former, that would still get annoying. Imagine if they were forced to restart the server every hour just to prevent lag?
Don't forget that you need to load the golems for it to work, just not the main payload. So technically there's still a part of the machine being loaded, although then it's like a landmine for the admin, they find you, ban you, thinking they're just going to delete your contraption and BAM! 200000 SNOWBALLS INSTANTLY LOADED CRASH THE SERVER.
