    i got triggered that you have a huge ass press + anvil, but didnt try and thin out the blade prior to grinding 70% of it away!

    Going through the trouble of forge welding, why not forge to shape? Definitely could've saved a lot of material by forging to at least a rough shape.

      Slave to his hydraulic press instead of his anvil.

    Why cut it and not forge it? You have a hammer and an anvil? Lots of waste, yeah you might be able to make canister damascus or fittings with it or something, but after taking the time to make a billet, why not just forge out the knife? Plus your pattern will flow better and not look like it's cut off at the end.

    Looks amazing! I do have one question. Isn't it good practice to clean the planks before forge welding? Does that help reduce inclusions? I'm no Smith by any means. I'm just captivated by the hobby.

    What all can be in place e of the typical hamon product. I have a mini forge, I'm learning while dying from a brain tumor and have my first blade almost rsy where I can apply one. What else can be used.?

    • @remcovanvliet3018
      @remcovanvliet3018 6 років тому

      platinumpimp1975 you can use "gun gum" exhaust sealant to create a hamon. I saw Alec Steele do that on his falchion project.

      platinumpimp1975 you can find the gun gum at the autoparts store. Gun gum is the brand name, it's regular use is to seal up leaky exhausts.

      Thanks for the response. I've worked all my life for Goodyear, Bridgestone, Perelli and never heard of it. This be fun to find. I'll look. Also thinking, about the consistency etc. I'm working an 11 in chopper in a tatnto style nose. My min forge is the width of a wasp spray can. Two inch thick. So high heat but minimal area to heat up. I'm wondering if it will lower my all together total hest before quench. My first blade of mystery metal came out genuineness, working on it's handle. But this monster I wanna hamon I'm worried on... May have to get it hotter some way.
