    This channel is brilliant.
I'd love to see more leather craft and black smithing.

Thank you very much! I try to make the videos as good as I possibly can (which takes time, so the publication schedule isn't really regular 😉). You're lucky: either the next one or the one following will be another leather craft video. Black smithing will have to wait a bit since I'm basically horrible at it - but working on it. I do have an Alec Steele Co build-a-knife box that I'll be making real soon. If you don't know Alec Steele, definitely check out his channel - you'll be amazed! Thanks again for watching my videos. Cheers, Tony!

This video has helped me a lot. I'm in the process of making my first knife and hadn't thought to try something simpler until I saw this video. Thank you very much for sharing your experience, you have earned a new subscriber.

Thanks a lot Jorge, I really appreciate it! Glad my video helped you a bit in the process of making knives. If you build a charcoal forge like this, be careful since it can be tricky to control the temperature. With some practice I'm sure you can figure it out 😀 Cheers, Tony

Very well made and the sharpeneing was very nice. I believe more in a hairy man shave than the paper cutting test :P

Thanks Javier! I agree, I never cut paper anyway (neither do I shave my arms regularly). My wife doesn't like this test because it results in many hairless patches on my left arm - but it's a swift test and I have my arm always with me 😉 Thanks for watching the video! Cheers!

    Very nice video!
I`m not a bladesmith either but I have some experiances with forging. Your forge is allright but if you want, you kan upgrade it to a sideblow, were the airpipe will be less warm. Another ideer is to lay the blade not direktly in the airflow. There is very much oxygen there that, together with the heat, will burn the carbon in the steel. Additionaly you can lay the blade in the fire with back, not the edge towards the warmest part of your fire. The edge is so thin that it will warm up in every way.
That your egde was a litle bit too thin mentioned you. I think 1,5-2 mm is a better choise. just my to cents.
I see forward to your next video Tony! Good luck with your projects and hobby`s.

Hi Frank, thank you for your extensive reply. It is really useful for an absolute beginner like myself. At least two of you tips will be taken into account for my next blade, the Alec Steele Co sheepsfoot knife - not filing/sanding it to sharp before hardening and not heating it to directly, but maybe upside down or next to the hottest part of the forge. I'm also looking into ways to better judge the temperature of the steel. It will be a fun build. Thanks for watching! Cheers!
