Thank you so much! I agree! I try to improve with every new knife. I am thinking about make one like this but with filework on liners and back spring too.
I know you have said that you don't sell your work.... (I am a woodworker and I have made hundreds of pieces over the years for family and friends.... can't bring myself to sell them!)..... BUT you are SO talented Mr Inmyshed, that you have a career here as a high-end, custom knife maker. You are on a par with Tony Bose (may he rest in peace) in my opinion. Anyway, just keep doing what you do best mate.... and if you ever feel like selling that "sodbuster" type slipjoint.... let me know!
I know, I just commented on another of your videos that I dont write comments often, but this is just beautiful craftsmanship. Can't wait to get back to working on the knives I'm building right now. This is actually so inspiring!
A very elegant edc knife I am hoping to make an Elmax blade puukko soon but the heat treatment is putting me off but yours is a bit easier to obtain 👍🏻🇮🇪
Lovely looking knife and skilfully made. I'm moving off of fixed blades and I looking to make my first folder. I'm in the UK, so no locking blades and 3 inch maximum blade lengths (punishment for running riot around the world with swords I guess). Your pattern will help start me off. Many thanks.
yes it does! But you can easily make this with another steel, and use a propane torch for heat treat, and you can get this results with file and sandpaper. just takes more time. :D Thank you!
@Inmyshed really?! You think so ? I suppose it would be possible. But, you can't really heat treat stainless with a torch. It needs to be soaked and quenched at precise temperatures and the hold times are different vs. simple carbon steels like 1066-1095
@GerstBladeworks hm depents. If you want to have the options for stainless steel, I would go for the owen. I used a pretty bad grinder, bought new for 85 dollars the first 2 years. It worked fine, hehe.

Thank you. Well, I basically copied the ide of this: usaknifemaker.com/pivot-lap-basic-knifedogs-5-bushing-model.html I tried to buy it, but they did not ship to Norway, so I had to make it my self. The jest of it is that you apply pressure to the bushing while you sand away at its thickness. The goal is to match the thickness of the pivot in the knife, + about 1 thou. You gonna need a micrometer for that. Repeat until satisfied.
Your jimping was very tastefully done. I actually don't mind it on your knife. I guess I am reacting against jimping in general, as I feel it doesn't add much to the functionality of a knife, some makers are putting big, tacky looking and uncomfortable saw teeth on the spine of their knives, and it makes the blade harder to wipe clean after use. I think a knife is generally more elegant without it.
I feel a bit silly for asking so long after the video upload - but doesn't sanding down the peened pins negate the peening? Or does the process allow enough bulge in the material to allow the pins to hold everything despite the peened head being sanded away?
Not sure if you will be able to remember now as it’s been awhile since making the video, but could you tell us the thicknesses of the metals you used for the blade, liners, and bolsters?
Hi! I use it all the time, so I remember! the blade and spring are 2.5mm thick. When the scaling from the hot roll process are sanded away, they are about 2.4mm. The bolsters are 3mm thick.
Hi! Thank you! No I sketch the ide, then start going over it with the ruler and compass. I do however want to learn CAD. I just don't have time for that yet, hehe.
Do you by any chance repair old knives? I have a Case Tested XX Barlow pre 1940 that needs to have the spring replaced on the sheeps foot blade. Would you be interested? Bob schimmel
Hi! No I have never tried! I do not think i will even dare to try on a knife that old and precious! I bet there are a lot of people in the stats that specialize in that kind of work? good luck to you!

It helps that you have a heat treating oven and a bunch of power tools. Beautiful work

Sure! Look at my older videos. I saved for years to buy the even heat treat owen, and used a mapgass torch on o1 tool steel
@@Inmyshed oh yeah definitely with 01! I have a question. Do you think it's More important to have a quality belt grinder or an oven first ?
@GerstBladeworks hm depents. If you want to have the options for stainless steel, I would go for the owen. I used a pretty bad grinder, bought new for 85 dollars the first 2 years. It worked fine, hehe.

Thank you! yes, that's all holding it together!

No problem! Good luck :D
Hi,
Gratulation to this fine work😊
Kind regards

Thank you so much!
Beautiful knife in a very useful size. I see the blade has jimping, which is somehow a requirement these days. I can't wait for that fad to die out.
Hi! Thank you! Why do you not like it? It does give some extra traction to you thumb.
Bellissimo lavoro
Wonderfull 😮
Thank you so much!
I feel a bit silly for asking so long after the video upload - but doesn't sanding down the peened pins negate the peening? Or does the process allow enough bulge in the material to allow the pins to hold everything despite the peened head being sanded away?
Hi! the holes are chamfered, so when the pins are peened, they expand into the chamfer on both sides, creating a strong mechanical bond.
