I was so obsessed with hand-lettering the first time I heard about it, so I kept practicing. I got told my calligraphy was bad when I first started, but I kept practing. And now, I think I mastered it well! That is why the key to good calligraphy is lots of practice!
I need this kind of teaching but for left handed people. Things are a little bit different for us especially on how to keep the pen. If you have some tips, please let me know. Thanks
I've wanted to start hand lettering for years. I was going to purchase a book on Amazon and found your book and UA-cam channel. After watching a couple of your videos, I've subscribed and purchased your beginner book! I can't wait to get started. Thank you for breaking down the steps for beginners!
I finally know now what I am doing wrong! I am not holding it perpendicular - your example was exactly what mine was looking like! Thank you so much! Now to practice....
I personally like brush markers with harder nibs because it makes it easier to make thinner lines, which I find quite difficult to make with softer nibs... A really good one is the Sakura Fudenosuke brush marker. Also I really like the contrast when there are really thin lines and really thick lines...
I really enjoy all of your videos. They are excellent. You areto the point, well educated in your craft and make everuthing easy to understand while covering a great amount of material. I love your reviews, education, and tips. Thank you for taking the time to produce these videos.
Your videos are of great help. I did attend brush lettering, faux calligraphy workshops and I too feel with faux calligraphy one is able to understand brush lettering more. Here I am to enquire about Pentel small brush pen. Is Pentel Arts Sign Pen with Brush Tip different than Pentel Fude Touch Sign Pen or Pentel Penelar Seal Pen Brush Touch--- I am getting confused as they all look similar on the computer screen. Please if you can guide. Thanks
Can you please explain what you mean at 6.36 by the the pens being at 45 degrees and also perpendicular at the same time? Trying to understand.....help!!!! 🍄😁💜
The pen should be about 45 degrees in relation to the paper. The perpendicular has nothing to do with where your paper is, it’s perpendicular to where your downstroke is. I hope that clears it up for you!
I thought you were joking when you said you were giving a file to download, but it turned out to be true. thanks. Thats really helped me who is a beginner in lettering❤
Hello, I cannot find the link to the free download that’s associated with this great video. I couldn’t find any links at all. Will you please direct me to the beginner help booklet you offer in this video? I’d appreciate it Sarah !
My Auntie said that "Calligraphy is easy to use,but hard to master" My auntie is using brush pen when she was 10 years old and present (she is actually 35 years old now).
If you live in philippines and you cant find cheap brushpens here is my tip for you: Mag antay kayo ng sale ng shopee tas punta kayo sa mall ng faber castell tas hanapin nyo yung brushpen nila don.Magmumura yon.Ang alam ko talagang price non ay 400+ pero nabili ko lang sya ng 300 or 320.12 pcs na yon.Tas quality pa. Yun lang hehe.
Definitely closer to a hard tip. Maybe a little softer than the tombow fudenoske hard tip. Honestly, I found it easier to learn with a soft large nib, but most people seem to recommend the opposite.
Yes it means 32 pound but the weight doesn’t matter as much. Printer paper isn’t smooth enough for brush pens so you just want smoother paper like HP premium. 👍
That’s a good question! It may help to know what some letters look like in cursive but cursive and hand lettering are different! So you absolutely don’t need to be good at cursive to be able to hand letter. 😊
Calligraphy is done with calligraphy pens usually (dip pen or fountain pen with different nibs), theres way more (somewhat strict) rules and different styles. Its the old timey writing, think letters written with a quill and finished with wax sealing etc. The hand-lettering movement just took the name for some reason, now it creates only confusion. Im primarily a calligraphy girl, but I can do the lettering, I just dont care for it that much. I like messing around with my ink bottles, I guess :)

What other papers do you recommend? I don't think we have the Premium thing in Philippines :
Cha Eunnie No we do, I live in the Philippines and my dad brought home the Premium thing i dont know where he got it though..Sorry
Uhhh maybe try asking in NBS? or just buy some vellum board or worx board? If you can't still afford it then be resourceful :> Good luck though :)

I have a friend, she is a left handed too but, she is really excellent in calligraphy. Btw, she thought me how to write calligraphy!
I’m left-handed but I can do calligraphy- just use the right brush pens. For me, the Tombow Fudenosuke doesn’t really smudge!

As of what i know that handwriting is called "Calligraphy" not "Lettering" lol
Lettering is the main category which calligraphy falls under
Calligraphy is done with calligraphy pens usually (dip pen or fountain pen with different nibs), theres way more (somewhat strict) rules and different styles. Its the old timey writing, think letters written with a quill and finished with wax sealing etc. The hand-lettering movement just took the name for some reason, now it creates only confusion. Lettering draws letters
