    The huddle you saw is called a scrum. You can research that if you haven't already.
    American football is essentially descended from rugby, and your baseball from cricket. So that's why there are similarities.
    They dive over the line because they're mostly not looking back while running and don't know who might be coming in to tackle them from behind.
    The faster, smaller, more slender body types tend to play on the wings because they're generally faster and better sprinters. The bigger, taller, hulkier types tend to play in the forward line because they're essentially the battering rams in scrums. But all rugby players are extremely muscled, strong and agile, no matter their body size or type.
    The players in the scrum who are generally the strongest and heaviest are called the loosehead prop and the tighthead prop. They're the front line of the scrum and it takes extreme core strength to stay in that huddled position to push back the collective weight of the opposing scrum. They practice for hours to develop this particular strength. Props' bodies generally take the most punishment in rugby so their position is a bit more challenging to play and if I'm not mistaken, they get paid more. I could be wrong on that last part, though.
    Check out Beast Mtawarira and Os Du Randt, the latter of which whose name/nickname is literally "Ox."

Curt-lee Arendse 11 or 14 but we do have so many players that we do change depending on the team we play. The language you heard was Xhosa 1 of the 12 official languages for SA

    Rugby play is continuous. There's no down system like American football. Play stops when the ball goes out of bounds or someone commits an infringement. You don't have to dive when you score. The ball just has to be touched down. But since this automatically happens when you dive, a lot of players do it. Also it looks cool.

    • @peterairl102
      @peterairl102 7 місяців тому +5

      Also it’s a Springbok thing to dive like that

    • @ockertbrits6907
      @ockertbrits6907 6 місяців тому

      As a retired player from SA, to dive when scoring isn't required, BUT it is much harder to tackle a person flying through the air than someone running. Hence the dive. Playing at school level, diving is discouraged, because it could lead to injury.

  • @alexanderanderson455
    @alexanderanderson455 7 місяців тому +4

    The part you asked for is called a scrum. 8 of the forwards(the bigger guys) push whilst they roll the ball in. The opposition can go for the ball but is unluckily as the nine will roll it a bit closer to there own side. But yeah you are watch Goats there and also the number 6 from SA is the captain Siya Kolisi.

    Most of these boys grew up on farms wrestling Brahman bulls. Brahman is a bovine type in South Africa. You need to have strong legs for this. Others grew up in arid areas and had to chase Cheetahs, hence the speed. That click sound language is Xhosa. Our boys are brutal. We are a nation of diverse languages and culture, but Rugby brings us together.

    Rugby is like NFL without all the glamor and body armor.
    To score a try (4 points) the ball has to be grounded anywhere over the opposition's goal line.
    Each try is complimented with a conversion kick between and over the goal posts (3 points).
    Transgressions are punishable with penalty kicks over the goalposts worth an immediate 3 points, or the team can choose to kick the ball over the touchline to gain ground.
    Hope this info helps

    the huddle is called a scrum and the reason you have NFL is because rugby was taken to usa in 1880s and the government changed the game to suit their political agenda. but its still based on rugby union code hence the similarities the union consists of 120 ish countries usa was kicked out of RWC 2023 by Namibia which used to be part of south west Africa, a country in 90s which is now South Africa. usa is number 20ish on the world rugby union rankings springboks has been dominating the last 30 years since 1995, started 1987 first WC. our pride and joy springbok team, nelson Mandela was the first black man to lift the web ellis trophy to the world and today a black captain lifted that trophy twice in succession back to back. our country are teaching the world and especially usa on race relations. we've moved quickly in 28 years and the world can see this apartheid state hasn't broken the dreams of the people #strongertogether is our springbok slogan uniting our country under 1 sport #loverugby our warriors! fierce just like our people. amen

      As somone who used to do rugby, had to stop due to back injury from it. 1. Yes injurys happen but if its a mild concussion or a sprain normally we brush it off and keep playing, unless you're leaking blood play won't stop. 2. Gym workouts for me was just strength and conditioning for my specific part on the team. I am also south African so I'm extra qualified to talk about rugby 😂😂

    No, you do not have to dive to score. However, you do have to touch the ball to the ground.

    Love how curious you boys are;) Return the favour and put us onto some NFL clips.
    On the rules it seems complex but it’s all stems from three basic ideas.
    1. You must be on your feet to play the ball and if you get tackled you must pass or place the ball immediately
    2. You can only tackle the person with the ball, you have to use your arms and not touch their head. And when tackled you must give them a clear chance to place the ball before you try pick it up (if you’re on your feet of course;))
    3. You have to approach play from your side of the field (the offside line runs through the ball or if there’s a pile of bodies around the ball, the last feet on your side)
    When you knock the ball on (forward by mistake) to restart there’s a scrum. You get to put the ball in play between the forwards and the other team gets to try push you off the ball before you can pick it up.
    All the strategy then is about trying to get a two or three on one by winning a string of little battles until you can set it up.
    Like chess;).
    Also remember NFL, soccer, basketball, rugby…they all have the same origins. They just evolved little tweaks that had big impacts over the years;)
