🪴 Plant some citronella plants and buy some citronella candles as well . I dealt with that in my backyard area. Those things were soooooooo bad. I also kept the grass cut and got rid of anything that helped them breed even though it's impossible around this time of year for you with all the creeks and ponds. I guess every little thing helps....lol. l love how the house is coming along. You're such an inspiration ❤️

Planting things like lavender, mint, citronella, lemongrass, basil, and catnip will make your yard smell heavenly and deter mosquitos. Also make sure you have a fountian in your pond to keep the surface of the water moving to deter mosquitos from laying eggs.

Shade over your Koi pond will help a lot with the algae growth, along with keeping grass from blowing into the pond while mowing. Just a FYI , if you dont know, on moving fish from container to pond and back make sure temp is the same in both bodies of water, so that fish aren't stressed and die, from temp change ❤

Adding plants and some floating plants into the pond will help with algae :) trees and shade providing plants around it will help. There are also other fish and animals you can add that will eat it right up! Algae is just unsightly, it won’t actually hurt anything ❤

    • @amyhendricks3627
      @amyhendricks3627 Рік тому +6

Agreed! Some shading will help by blocking the sun which is what is helping the algae to thrive.👍 It looks better with the rock in it 😊 lily pads are pretty for floating shade. Re: pond algae, you can either dye the water (with fish and other animal safe dye!) to slightly darken the water, or put up shade cloth - both will block out some sunshine and seriously slow down algae growth! But because you live in an area with a hard freeze, you can also plant fast growing things like water hyacinth (invasive in areas without a hard winter freeze) that will eat up all the nutrients. And it’s kind of too late now, but for anyone else - wash those rocks before you put them in your pond! You never know what chemicals or oils have gotten on them, and it will reduce how much they dirty your water.
And re: the lawn, you seem like the type that might enjoy a bit of clover or native ground covers! They’re often softer to walk barefoot on, typically require less water (so no patchiness from dry spells), and most are low to no mow! A favorite very low ground cover is Corsican mint, which smells delicious with every step. Ground cover chamomile is also delightful, but may need mowing. And micro clover is a great one that stands up to foot traffic while providing flowers for pollinators! You can even just do it patch by patch in areas the grass isn’t doing so well until you find a ground cover you like. I’m an anti-grass proselytizer due to allergies and growing up in a place where everyone had to water their lawns to keep them alive despite near constant drought.

Love it! Now just put clear plexiglass on top of the lattice roof to direct rain water from the wood and to stop the bugs from coming through the lattice and then add mosquito netting on the sides to help prevent you from being eaten alive by the bugs and plant some plants that repeal the bugs so you can actually enjoy being outside on the patio. If you mount brackets on the inside of the wooden frame you can put the mosquito netting on rods which would allow you to open the netting and tie it back when it isn't needed. I hope you have fun with your friends.

Plant every kind of mint and lavender you can get your hands on around your property. Harvest often because it will spread, but your place will smell amazing and the squitos hate it! With the trees, tall grasses and water, you have the perfect environment. I also read pure eucalyptus oil is good and repels them even better than sprays. Great job!!

Hannah if you create shade for your koi pond it will slow the algae bloom... the sun promotes the algae bloom. Our Koi pond was always in full shade and stays clear. But of course we always clean the pump and dipped the leaves out but never emptied it and scrumbed it because it removes so much of the good algae for a healthy pond and it takes so long for it to recover the healthy algae... don't clean the pond out so often. just give it more shade and let it acclimate the cloudy algea will die but it has to go through that stage ... some people just use that "pond clear" stuff but we let it do it naturally it makes a healthier pond.... 😉🤗 a pond is completely different than an aquarium.

My parents have a leaf grinder and we pile them up until my mom does her garden. She lets the plants grown up a little and then mulches leaves around them. That way she doesn't have to weed and the ground stays wetter longer her garden used to be sandy but between the leaves and a truckload of cow plop every year it is pretty awesome.
My dad took some old water heaters from the house and cut them in half and built some wooden stands. She put her smaller plants in them this year as an experiment. They worked just fine. She was recovering from back surgery so didn't plant her regular gas den this year at all first time since around 1974 she didn't have a full garden at any house.
The best garden we had was when I was in high school. We turned the old barnyard into a full garden. The farmhouse was over one hundred years old and had cattle in it the entire time. Before the house they lived in a log cabin. The barn was featured in a book. It was built without nails except for the siding and roof they used huge wooden pegs. The loft above the milking area was where they kept loose hay with birch bark trees as the loft floor. They just pushed the trees aside to drop hay down to feed. I spent a summer cutting the trees up for firewood after my brother went up there and fell through the logs and broke his leg.

FYI - If you want a solid tie off or connection point on any tarp or material you don't have to cut holes or install grommets. Anywhere on the material push a small rock (or anything) into the material and from the OTHER SIDE loop and tie a rope/string around the base of the rock effectively tying the rock into the material. If you want a tie off point then use a long rope for the loop/tie line or if you want to connect two materials together just push the rock into both overlapping materials and use a short rope/string to tie the rock in. This crumples the material a little bit but it is much stronger than cutting any hole and you can put them anywhere on the material, not just at the edge. Don't know if this would help with what you were doing there but if you know this method you will use it many times throughout your life and even reconsider how to effectively use tarps. Actually, this is much stronger than using the built in grommets so while camping or something you might want to do this instead of using the grommets. The larger the rock and line the more powerful the connection.

Hi Hannah. The pergola came out really nice. Sometimes ropes and pulleys can be your best friend when working alone. Glad you got a little buddy trailer for Luke to hang out with. Looks like a good helper. Thanks for posting, and have a good week.

In case no one has told you lately, you are f#@+ing amazing!!!
Really inspiring, too 🤗 it has become apparent that Molly has the "smazing gene" as well 😂 it was a genius idea for her to bring the boat out there. You can keep each company, help each other with stubborn two party tasks, and have tickle fests 🥳
Thanks so much for sharing your amazing self 💕 i have to say though, that the mom in me wants to remind you to eat!! Gotta keep fuel in that tank to work as hard as you do 🙂 your pergola is an awesome spot - you have some pretty hostas growing on one of the corners 👍

    I have to ask....
How did you get the money for all the expensive things you've bought and trips you've went on?
Is it from just making UA-cam videos?
I'm pretty sure others are asking themselves the same thing!
Whatever it is, you are knocking it out of the park, sweet girl!
You are fabulous Hannah and I really enjoy all of your shorts & videos. 🥰
