Ghost is actually really personal to me. I’ve been a dedicated fan for six years now, and Ghost gave me a reason to live. I wouldn’t be here right now if it weren’t for this band. That might sound stupid but I guess we all have things to live for. Some of us just have a lot fewer than others. I was 13 when I first decided I didn’t want to be alive anymore. I’m 17 now and I am determined to survive. Even if it’s just to listen to music. Because if I have Ghost, I have everything.
Ghost is a Swedish band, who's singer is the mastermind songwriter Tobias Forge. He writes pretty much everything in the music and has created an entire vision for the band. They are a theatrically satirical "satanic" church (not really, its a gimmick of them turning the catholic church on its head to project it as evil). Tobias dresses up as an evil pope, and every album, there is a different new "pope" that takes the last one's place (They are all Tobias though). Their names are Papa Emeritus I, Papa Emeritus II, and Papa Emeritus III, and the album this song you listened to came from, they broke away from that pattern and the current one is Cardinal Copia, who's in training to be the next Pope (still Tobias of course). The rest of the band are all anonymous members who dress up in matching black suites with silver devil heads, who are called "Nameless Ghouls". Tobias is quite a genius mastermind in that, his songwriting revolves heavily around double meaning between obscure, possible satanic topics, and personal interpretations with no necessary link to religion at all. The music style is heavily inspired by 80's metal and 80's rock. It is quite progressive in its own right. Ghost have exploded over the past 3 years, particularly starting with their 3rd album Meliora in 2015, from which they hit it big with a few different singles. UA-cam Ghost reaction and you'll see lots of reactions for Cirice, for example. That was my introduction and it blew me away. They had a popular single called Square Hammer off of an EP released after Meliora. It's a popular reaction pick on youtube as well. Off their current album, Prequelle, popular reactions are to singles "Rats", "Dance Macabre", and "Faith". Ghost poses itself as a form of metal, but its progressive in just this odd way that Tobias tends to write pieces sometimes that are very very poppy, almost mockingly so. But that is all part of the big gimmick in the vision that is ghost: "Satanic Rock Pop". They got a grammy a couple years ago for best metal performance with Cirice. I would say Ghost is essential listening for what you guys react to on this channel. There's a whole canon behind the band's "church" that is cool to learn about and keep up with as they release new albums. I think you guys should become more familiar for sure, and go through the obvious essentials: Cirice (pronounced "Sur-reese"), Square Hammer, Pinnacle to the Pit, Majesty, Rats, Faith, and Dance Macabre. One of the most incredible instrumentals by them, to me, is Miasma though. They went all out on the instrumentation, and its a real joy ride to listen to!
i'm glad there are people see the sarcasm and witt that tobias has, i could'nt have explained the premise of this band in a better way, good job, it just points out what a joke the church is, most "satanic" bands aren't satanists, it's just an expression of the most evil mind sets that can be had, there are some who do take it a bit far (like some of the more obscure scandinavian guys), but they still don't worship anything but the eago, if there was a satan , and he wanted to influance the whole, i think he would pick someone more like beyonce, or justin timberlake, who would reach a much bigger audiance than the rather small group of fans who listen to extreme black metla, lol
I prefer live versions - people see what the band is all about. Cirice in particular is so much different live (even the live album) as people don't think about the characters in the video, but the song. It IS an awesome video though :) Just watch it after.
The album this song is from, Prequelle, is a thematic album, and this is the last track on the standard release. The album's theme is essentially the black plague; death. I think you can piece together the purpose of this song with that information. :)
ghost never seems to be what people expect from them and you did choose a ballad to do first and I'm okay with that, because it's a beautiful song. But...that said: #GHOST - "YEAR ZERO(popular lyric video)" , "CIRICE"(sir-reese)~ ~and watch the live performance on LATE NIGHT W/STEPHEN COLBERT) , "SQUARE HAMMER" (official video)" , "HE IS (official video)", MUMMY DUST , and any others!
I'm the guy obssessed with DEATH, and death metal in general. However, GHOST are really one of my favorite bands out there+ Their lead singer/songwriter Tobias used to play in a Swedish Death metal band Repugnant
Hey Rich, I thought you might tear-up for a moment. I cried the first time I heard it and if I ever have a wedding, this will be the song I choose to dance to.
Ghost is one of the best live bands around... Their live shows are an incredible "Ritual" that the Albums just can not replicate fully. The lyrics really need to be appreciated and I wonder if Cirice or Mummy Dust would be a great second choice to listen to from the band even Per Aspera ad Inferi would be choice.
I've been a Ghost fan for some time, and an admirer of Tobias Forge's songwriting and arranging skills. This song is so deep and touching, I literally have a hard time listening to it without crying. It makes me think of my mother when she was dying. The song affected me so deeply, I looked around on the internet and found dozens upon dozens of other people saying they cry every time they hear this song as well, and they share stories of their mom or dad, their brother or sister, or friend who passed away. Tobias's older brother, who he admired greatly, died the very same day he posted Ghost's first songs online. While he claims this song is part of the greater theme of the record Prequelle (about the Black Plague) but I sense this song is imbued with a lot of his own personal grief.
Ghost have quickly become one of my favourite bands.... this is definitely one of their "softer" songs, but so, so beautiful! If you go into them more and see any of their music videos you will see different "singers", those are all masks and are in fact the same guy underneath. He started out with Papa Emeritus I, then Papa Emeritus II, then Papa Emeritus III and now we have Cardinal Copia fronting the band.... no-one knew up until recently who was under the mask, it was all speculation, but then a law suit happened and his name was revealed. They are also one of those bands that you have to see live! There are sooooo many good songs by them but my #MetalChickPick would be for Ghost - Faith or Ghost - Mummy Dust.
@@dfkeenum oh for sure one of my tops bands that I've ever seen live... think I even had a bit of "ritual depression" afterwards because it was all over so fast. 😂
Great to see you guys react to Ghost! They are a very polarizing band, with many people seemingly divided by their sound and lyrics, much of which deals with satanic material. But it's mostly tongue in cheek, and their songs are extremely catchy and unique.
I love Ghost and was very curious about the meaning of this song, and found this information. “Life Eternal” according to Tobias Forge in an interview with Revolver Magazine about mortality and immortality, what’s the better way to live? As he said: "Let’s say you were given the opportunity to circumvent the natural order of things, and given carte blanche to live forever. Would you want to do that? Is that something you would be willing to commit to?" He also said, "friendships and love affairs end. Some don’t, and those are the ones that fuck with you. I can be very cynical when it comes to stuff like that even though I’m married, and I have a very, very happy relationship. Before I met her, I wouldn’t want to commit to anything. All I saw was marriages falling apart and I come from a broken home. I didn’t believe in it." "So you sometimes have to take everything with a wee bit of salt. Even death - you think that to experience the death of someone close would be something you can’t imagine, and when it happens, it absolutely sucks. But then years later it feels like yeah, you went through that."
#Ghost - Miasma (fantastic instrumental - off the same album as Life Eternal - if you like 80's glam metal, this will tickle your fancy!), or Square Hammer (which dabbles in the tenets of Free Masonry, plus the riff is just killer!). Ghost is a unique entity...they have elements of 80's glam metal, 70's metal (ie. Blue Oyster Cult), early stuff almost gothic metal elements (but never the 'growl' that some 'death' metal bands do...his voice is too good for that!) Honestly, you should check out the entire album Prequelle - it's a thematic/concept type album, dealing with the plague/black death, with songs (such as this) dealing with losing a loved one to that gruesome epidemic, and the aftermath. I have this vinyl spinning quite regularly in my house, and it's AWESOME!! You will not be disappointed!!
Square Hammer really doesn't debble into Free Masonry. "Are yoi on the level" and "Are you on the square" are Free Masonry terms, but that's about as much as the song has to do with Free Masonry.
Ghost, my fellow Swedes, is my favourite band and it was so great to see you react to this beautiful song of theirs. I saw Ghost live in concert 2.months ago in Gothenburg and Stockholm. The best two gigs I've seen in years! 14000 people in the crowd in Stockholm, sold out..You should react to more of their songs! Some of the best songs are Dance Macabre, Ritual, Cirice, Elisabeth, He Is, Faith,Rats and Year Zero. Would be happy to see you react to any of those songs. Cirice is my favourite and the song that won them a Grammy. 🇸🇪🤘
I’m so happy that you guys finally got around to listening to Ghost!! I definitely wouldn’t have picked this song as an introduction to the band. #Ghost Square Hammer, Cirice, or Rats
Check out their older stuff from their first album “Opus Eponymous”. I recommend starting with “Ritual”. It’s got a very good riffs worth headbanging to. The band is originally from Sweden with their frontman being Tobias Forge who dresses as a satanic clergyman. In the first three albums, Opus Eponymous, Infestissumam, and Meliora, he is a pope. Papa Emeritus I, II, and III. One in each album. The album this song is in, prequelle, he is Cardinal Copia.
I can barely listen to this song anymore without almost breaking into tears now that I know why Tobias Forge wrote it. if you don't know Life Eternal is an homage to his brother Sebastian who had passed away before ghost gained a ton of traction. Life Eternal is Tobias' way of telling Sebastian that he made it and I cant help but have tears
I have a hard time getting into a lot of contemporary bands, but I do love Ghost. They have some great and wildly varying music. This song really isn't indicative of most of their work, though, but still a great song.
So excited to see you delve into Ghost. One of my favorite bands of all time. So much so, that I have them tattooed on me. I think a great song for you to react to would be is #Ghost - Secular Haze. I came across the video for it one day back in 2013. Did not sound anything like what I expected it to when I saw the thumbnail with Papa Emeritus II. I instantly fell in love with their sound and got their first 2 albums. Have been a devout fan since then. #Metalchickpick #PapaIIForever
Ghost is band from Sweden. Founder, Tobias Forge started this band kinda like a protest to organized religion such as mainly Catholics. In early setup of Ghost, Tobias dressed like the "Pope". His moniker was Papa - Anti Pope. Before both of you called Ghost....Satanists, Ghost mainly mocking Catholics. Now, Tobias with new members as "Ghouls", his moniker is Cardinal Copia supporting Ghost's new album, Prequelle. ya , ghost, the first song you picked to check out , is kinda an odd pick, the first ones that pop up are, usually ,square hammer, cirice, rats, danse macabre, but you had to look a bit for life eternal,, it's my favorite ghost song, and i'm a dethmetal guy, go figure, the only genre i can really fit ghost into is just hard rock, people who don't get ghost , just don't get them, i understand exactly what religon is , so i gettobias and his sarcasm, he's a very clever guy
# Ghost Infetissumam LP - tracks 1 and 2 together. Called Infetissumam , then Per Apera Ad Inferi. The two really should be combined as one. The vibe is amazing from beginning to end.
The album Prequelle, from which this is taken from, is about the Black Plague. You need to start with songs from Opus Eponymous and follow them as they progress. I am a diehard metal fan but Ghost is just plain badass no matter how you look at it.
Such a good band! Pretty much anything is worthy of checking out. Opus Eponymous is their first album. I would like to see reactions for Con Clavi Con Dio or Ritual! So good🤘
Ghost has such catchy riffs and harmonies! The sense of restrained power really gets me. Please react to #Ghost Rats and/or #Ghost Danse Macabre? The visuals in their official videos really add to their "aura"/ gimmick. Have a Happy Easter!!
I was an early adopter of Ghost, they opened for another band and I was immediately hooked from their first album. There are, of course, better songs by them. But I've loved every album. If you want something off of their newest album, I would go with Dance Macabre. But another older song, that might be their best, is Square Hammer (and I would recommend the very cool music video for it if you can get it past the blockers).
Ghost is decent, saw them open for Opeth & Mastodon bck in 2012. Their sound reminds me of the band Blue Oyster Cult from the '70s, at least a little bit.
I saw them back in November front row the are so good live one of the best shows thank you for the reaction keep up the great work you guys are great....lots of love from New Mexico
#Arkona - In my land You should really check this one out. It's one of the masterpieces of folk metal and Masha's vocals are absolutely phenomenal (cleans and growls, she really can do it all).

ya , ghost, the first song you picked to check out , is kinda an odd pick, the first ones that pop up are, usually ,square hammer, cirice, rats, danse macabre, but you had to look a bit for life eternal,, it's my favorite ghost song, and i'm a dethmetal guy, go figure, the only genre i can really fit ghost into is just hard rock, people who don't get ghost , just don't get them, i understand exactly what religon is , so i gettobias and his sarcasm, he's a very clever guy
# Ghost Infetissumam LP - tracks 1 and 2 together. Called Infetissumam , then Per Apera Ad Inferi. The two really should be combined as one. The vibe is amazing from beginning to end.
When you have Ghost you have everything....
You folks need to check out a song called .... don't wait for me... by Thunder.
Song gives me goosebumps everytime
#Thunder #dont wait for me
The album Prequelle, from which this is taken from, is about the Black Plague. You need to start with songs from Opus Eponymous and follow them as they progress. I am a diehard metal fan but Ghost is just plain badass no matter how you look at it.
Very romantic sad song from Ghost..thank you for react
Such a good band! Pretty much anything is worthy of checking out. Opus Eponymous is their first album. I would like to see reactions for Con Clavi Con Dio or Ritual! So good🤘
Ghost has such catchy riffs and harmonies! The sense of restrained power really gets me. Please react to #Ghost Rats and/or #Ghost Danse Macabre? The visuals in their official videos really add to their "aura"/ gimmick. Have a Happy Easter!!
Welcome to your next rabbit hole
A few obvious #Ghost tracks to check out:
- Cirice
- Faith
- Dance Macabre
- See The Light (If you want a rockin' song that is more melodic)
Ghost are great, check out:
#Ghost He is
Ghost - faith
You need to do alot more ghost!!! Cirice, Square Hammer, He Is, If You Have Ghosts, Zenith, Rats, so many more too list. Epic band!!!
Ghost - Pro Memoria
Ghost never disappoint
More Ghost!!
I enjoy this band as I do Blue Oyster Cult.
More Ghost please!!
will you somehow upload your reaction to Dreamer Deceiver by Priest? would love to see it but it got blocked.
Watched again again
Fucking beautiful.
More Ghost
Ghost is decent, saw them open for Opeth & Mastodon bck in 2012.
Their sound reminds me of the band Blue Oyster Cult from the '70s, at least a little bit.
I'm surprised more people don't make this connection, it's rather obvious.
I saw them back in November front row the are so good live one of the best shows thank you for the reaction keep up the great work you guys are great....lots of love from New Mexico
Dream theater fan? I already like this channel
#Ghost -Here Comes the Sun (Beatles cover)
Ghost - secular haze
Could you do a reaction vid from Dance Macabre from Ghost? Or Cirice from Ghost.
Ghost are Swedish Im a Swede In my opinion Square hammer and Dance macabre are worth a listen.
🇸🇪🤟🏻
#Arkona - In my land
You should really check this one out. It's one of the masterpieces of folk metal and Masha's vocals are absolutely phenomenal (cleans and growls, she really can do it all).
You really need to review "and we run" by Within Temptation and Xzibit, possibly one of the best crossovers ever
More Ghost 🙏🙌👍Ghost are so talented and special..I love that so much💕👻CIRICE / SQUARE HAMMER
/ RATS / FAITH / YEAR ZERO / MUMMY DUST.....thanks 😇😁
