Hello and welcome to BOAB Models. Today we'll be building the 1976 Tyrrell Ford P34 Six Wheeler 1/20 scale kit from Tamiya, starting with the legendary Ford Cosworth DFV V8 engine. This was the version of the car released in 1990 and it is due to be released again later in 2022.
The Tyrrell P34 (Project 34), commonly known as the "six-wheeler", was a Formula One (F1) race car designed by Derek Gardner, Tyrrell's chief designer. The car used four specially manufactured 10-inch diameter (254 mm) wheels and tyres at the front, with two ordinary-sized wheels at the back. Along with the Brabham BT46B "fancar" developed in 1978, the six-wheeled Tyrrell was one of the most radical entries ever to succeed in F1 competition and has been called the most recognizable design in the history of world motorsports.

The engine came out great. Love the heat staining on the exhaust. Great tip for the intake screening. It is amazing the detail this kit has considering it's age.

Thanks so much. I totally agree - I've made kits from this century which can't hold a candle to this.

Nicely done! I am finishing work on the Ligier JS11, but I have the two P34 models ready to go. Subscribed for more!

Thank you very much! There are so many classic F1 cars like that Ligier I'd like to make. Thanks for the sub!

A really nice job of the engine Thomas. I wish we could still get F1 kits with such detail and driver figures as well. Sadly lacking F1 kits overall. Looking forward to making this myself. Cheers Allan

Thanks Allan. Yes, it seems like F1 kits were made really regularly until this last decade for some reason. Tamiya have only released one new car in the last 5 years and it's no longer made now.

Very nice. I recently built the 1965 Honda F1 by Tamiya and I really enjoyed it. I've had my eye out for other older F1 cars, this one may be one I take a closer look at. Thanks for sharing the process. Have a great weekend. -David

Thanks, David. That Honda is a great kit - I made one in lockdown 1.
This Tyrrell is well worth building - this version is being released again with photo etch parts later this year or the 1977 version is also good.

Well executed Thomas! Exhaust pipes I found very confusing to assemble! Love the trumpet mesh. Looking forward to you tackling front suspension and brakes and wheels, another fiddly assembly!

Thanks Paul - missed this comment! Yeah, I'd say the exhausts are only of the few bad things about this kit!

Awesome work. Love the detail of the kit, it is a little fiddly, but it looks awesome when completed. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Michael. Yeah, the exhaust pipes are the worst bit but most goes together well.

Great work on the engine, hate to think how many of those I've built over the years :) the exhaust pipes are the worst, not Tamiya's best design but still is good after all these years. What size tip was the Posca pen ? I definately need to try them.

Thanks very much. Haha - this is only my second but I'd like some more cars of this era in the future. A lot of exhaust footage was left on the cutting room floor as I kept making mistakes!
I'll have a look at the pen but it's pretty small - maybe 0.5mm? Got it from Hobbycraft

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  2 роки тому +1

      It was 0.7mm
