Its a shame they never got it to group B and its also disappointing they never brought this car back as their super car. I'm sure they would sell the heck out of them. Great model it looks like.

I've built this kit. It was a while ago. I think the parting lines on the body are annoyingly persistent. And be prepared to clamp the body very firmly to the chassis and interior. The body does not click into place like it does on most Japanese kits. But it's got some very pleasing details and looks great when finished. I also sanded off the moulded badges on the sides, because I thought they would stand too proud, and because I was worried that they might not align perfectly with the decals. I'm looking forward to seeing what you make of it.

Any idea what color you want to paint it? That will be another great build when you get finished with it. Makes me want to do a Corvette also...I think I have 4 or five in the stash...lol

Error- I think I said this was a recently tooled kit. It was actually tooled in 1997, not 2017 when it was reboxed by Revell of Germany! Sorry!

It's a shame this kit is so poor, as it's such an iconic rally car. Your improvements worked well into turning the kit into an acceptable model, but Heller really should do better from the start. I'm amazed that your homemade decals worked better than the factory ones. Do you think it's a problem with the sheet on your kit, or will all of them be like this? Anyway, congrats on the build!

As you said, this is a very simplified kit, with a lot of details missing. On the other hand, it's the only available kit of the Evo 2 car. I wonder if it would be possible to kitbash it with the Tamiya kit. It would be an expensive model, but perhaps worth it.

What a fantastic build! When I watched the unboxing review I had my reservations about the kit and wondered how much better you could make it. Well, to say you've improved on the kit would be a slight understatement to say the least! The scratch built dash looks incredible as does the whole cabin! Sometimes the little things you did, have made such a massive difference, beyond what you would reasonably expect. It just goes to show what you can do with some skill, (or alot!) imagination and a whole lot of patience! Extremely impressive build mate. I haven't the patience to improve a kit as you have done, maybe little bits and bobs, but I wouldn't waste my money on the kit in the first place. I've wasted so much time and money on rubbish kits in the past, I'm just not prepared to do it anymore. Congratulations on a sterling build, it really is a wonderful looking model. Nice work. Scratch building and detailing is a great way to make your mark on a build. I suspect the model would look very plain and basic without any additions.

You did a great job on a poor kit, bravo! I wouldn't build it myself, I'd rather stump up the cash for the Tamiya version, although they are so rare now a good one is hard to find.

I bought both this and the targa kit, built that one first but had issues with the way the body sat on the chassis and the stance. I got so frustrated after soending many days on it that I destroyed it. I wonder if I screwed up or if the body wasn’t molded straight. I’ll have to check my coupe kit now before I get too involved.

Excellent upgrades you added - your narration is very good. I'm working on a Fujimi BMW GT3 and I see several things in here that will be helpful right away. I built an old MPC X-Wing Fighter and the decals wanted to fall apart. I used Testors lacquer clearcoat 1261 on them and with that coating it solved the problem. Not to light not to heavy when spraying. And you have to cut the decals out one by one after that since it will become one big decal sheet then. But it worked. 👍 If that helps you.

First of all, you could ask a new decal sheet from Heller and it's possible not to have to pay even a penny for it. I did this recently for a Peugeot 905 kit, whose decals had the same problem. If the decal sheet is deep blue, it means that you'll have problems with the decal placement; they're extremely thin and fragile. However, I built this kit a couple of years ago and the decals were as they should be while the decal paper was light blue. I remember that I put one decal in the water and by mistake I left it there for many hours... the decal still on paper! I would like to build it again, but not the rally car, the road version instead.

Wow, you made this car look very well! I was wondering about buying this kit but as I see it's (sadly) not a great one, I have a very rocky relationship with Heller kits anyway, I bought their racing Jaguar Type E so it could fit with my Ferrari 250 GTO from Le Mans 1962 but the kit was so poorly made I never finished it. I was wondering about buying this kit too but I think the Tamiya kit would be a better choice for me, still, you did amazing job with improving the detail on this one, great job!

Great job Thomas, it's always a nerve racking part when you are trying to create damage on a model but not actually break it haha. The bullet holes in the windscreen look really good. I'm getting back to my models after being busy with other things and almost finished the Airfix E-Type that they released around the same time as this one. I've got the Huayra and Chiron which were Christmas presents to do next as well 😁

I had a mustard yellow 73 MGB that had the chrome bumpers but had the 74 rims that weren't spokes. I would like to build the 68 version as a 73 since it is similar to the 68 however I was wondering how I could get the rims included in the 74 version? Not sure if there is an aftermarket product. Also, I need to make it left hand drive and am thinking I may need to manipulate the model dash in some way. Also, trying to figure out if Tamiya has a mustard yellow that I could try to match. Alot of questions and appreciate any help.

Thanks for sharing this build Thomas. I've never considered building any 1/43 scale models as I mostly do 1/24 or 1/20 scale cars or 1/12 motorcycles. I'm impressed with how much detail was in your build, especially the dashboard. I was not expecting that amount of detail at all. The finished model looks really good and the Aluminium colour is just perfect for that car. I may have to keep my eyes open for these smaller scale kits, especially with 1/24 and 1/20 scale kits prices now being as high as they are. Cheers Thomas and now back to Goodwood FOS live stream.
