@25:48 Two things can be true is what I think the caller was saying. Diddy can be held accountable for his actions as well as the parents for sending their children to live with a music producer. I can't believe someone on the panel described it as sending your child to basketball camp. That's NOT the same thing. Usher's parents also had a duty to protect their child by not putting them in this situation.
I can’t believe Karen would disagree. Funny, do people even lesson to the lyrics these recording producers be putting out. Children should not be in a adult environment without the parents. Remind me when Serena father had to check a reporter in a interview. Thanks goodness he was there.
I've always known that I never wanted to get married or have kids. I hate it when people question me. They call me selfish & say I hate kids. That's not true & I tell them, that in my opinion, most ppl aren't happy in their marriages, they don't treat their kids well & don't deserve them. They want the picture of a family, but when they have to do the work, they look at their lives & think WTF did I do?!? Exactly! 😂 It shows & then they're stuck. A friend of mine came over w/her kids. She told me that she felt sorry for me. I asked why & she said bc I'm not married & don't have kids. I said you come to my house for peace. You're here to talk abt your sorry azz husband & your bad azz kids. I'm good, but clearly you're not! I then asked her to wrangle her kids & leave so I could get back to my peace. The NERVE. That's called HATIN!
I love your comments. There is a strong freedom when we choose to be with ourselves without a partner and without children. It is a choice and it does take a strong and resilient mindset to be at peace and happy with oneself in what appears to be an unpeaceful and unhappy world. So thank you for your comments. I do have peace and I love it. I have myself and I love her.
In my family’s case- it was the priests - Irish American Brooklyn immigrant community (How The Irish Became White, important book)but when our mothers put blind faith into the church, the medical establishment and the police and government- they lost their children to the trauma of abuse and the continuation of the genetics of trauma, Irish style. Hence, adult children in various stages of hurting themselves and others.
In our community we tend to hold a guilt because back during slavery , we weren't able to protect an innocent slave that was getting beaten. Now because of the trauma when we see someone black going under the fire we feel it's our job to be a superhero and protect them at all cost. Even if it's one that would throw our community in boiling lava without hesitation. we need to learn how to vet people. Also, we have to not fall for celebrity, especially if they look like us. I'm all for forgiveness but if it's recurring something heinous, I'm done. Not all skinfolk is kinfolk , and that's okay!
Karen is not wrong. Folks inability to place blame on predatory adults is a problem in the Black community. The adults knows fully the difference between rightand wrong. Messing with children is wrong full stop. They also know that they have a predilection to children so they need to take steps to not be around children especially alone since they act like they can't control it.
I am not proud to say people close to me suffer this same mindset. I have been working on them…mainly to maintain my own sanity. I am so tired of it…it has been ending in arguments. I don’t care. I call it out every time until they figure it out (at least around me). My tolerance for victim blaming has dropped BELOW 0.👎🏾✊🏾
Responsibility has to be on both sides-the abusers and the greedy parents who put their children in harm's way to get money. If you let a fox into a hen's house what's it's going to do -take care of the chickens.
Now "ALL the women in the world" are experiencing this? ALL OF THEM? I'm with you if proven beyond a reasonable doubt. But, I have to question it because is seems as if we're so really quick to send another brother to jail off of an accusation and as a man thats scary.....
There are many females and males that have a story to tell of someone's subtle or overt predatory behavior, perpetrated on them from childhood and beyond, and they just live with the memories.
Thank you. I understand his point, but teenagers can lie about where they're going and who they are with. It doesn't absolve the adults around them of responsibility to keep them protected.
@KimmieB1993 your assumption is that they aren't already. People send their kids to places all the time and they do not do it knowing their kids will be violated. SA happens at schools, camps, churches and I could go on. So kids can't go anywhere anymore? Your narrative is based on you believing that the parents are selling their kids into this abuse and that in essence is not holding these adult celebrities accountable.

Karen jumped thw gun. I love her 99.99% of the time, but she twisted the brother's words to fit the prevailing narrative. The caller's arguement is no different than the prosecutor's charging the parents of the mass shooter. There arw times when consenting, guardians have some level of culpability and should be held responsible... not for what they did, but for what they knowingly or unknowingly allowed. In that case, the school is next. Thw caller was right, multiple people can be responsible and nobody is defending any of them!

You didn't even say that to the idiot before who actually was defending puffy. It seems like you're ok with Parents selling their kids for fame Karen.
Parents can do everything right and a child can still be prayed upon. Even if the child comes from a family with absentee parents, it doesn't allow the other adults to harm those kids. And when we learn that someone has been harming children, unless the parents are simply neglectful and requires intervention, the FOCUS needs to be on the predator. This knee jerk reaction to blame the parents is simply the black community trying to cover for predators.
Some parents know what’s going on and they still will sell out their own children for the American dollar. Mothers serving up their daughters to make the family money and get them rich. People forget when The parents of Gary Coleman from Different Strokes was stealing Gary’s money as a child. This Holly-weird entertainment industry stuff been going on for years. Parents are to blame.
In the Jungle with animals. When a adult animal has its young? Who job is it too protect their young to be eating by predators? The predators or the parents? If you and your young are the prey, how can you make it the predator’s responsibility to not eat you alive and your kids? You as a parents need to protect your young who are defenseless as prey.

The man towards the end wasn’t defending it. He was saying that parents shouldn’t let their kid go live with someone else. Doesn’t mean the abuser is exempt at all.
What Karen can't seem to comprehend is that you CAN hold the abuser accountable AND still not absolve the parents for putting their children in that situation, they're not mutually exclusive...
Don't try to mis-represent or put your words on my lip you very very well know what I'm talking about. In the black community, many years ago families believed in the words sweep the situation under the rugs and they passed that down like a generation Baton with a lot of ancestral fear so many just did what they said to do even if you knew they were wrong for telling you to be quiet 🤫 fast foward to the days we are living in now, social media have become most peoples safe place for information and knowledge Its a new day, and people are trying to stand up for their self and help others to stand up, speak up, and tell your truth Its not easy to stand up to a predator that you may know or not know. Diddy have probably delt with a predator as a child for this to be such a high profile situation in his life 30+ years of terrible negative energy he have exemplified before the world. Look how he fled and left his boys. That's a big example of he dont care about anyone Ushers' mother allowed her child to go away for a year , without parental guidance, you heard Usher say he wouldn't send his children so thats enough said Karen as always Thank you for the open dialog ❤
People put the onest on the parents because they can't identify with sending your child to a musician; however, everyday parents send their children with adults who can harm them and they trust that they won't. It really is not very different. We don't expect our children to be harmed. Most of these parents are trying to help their children. Unfortunately, these men sound like predators, and we look towards them as protectors.

I think there is a difference between boarding school and a stay with a professional mentor. Boarding schools have educational professionals who are mandated reporters charged with looking out for the students. Who is the mandated reporter or child advocate present when a child is spending all this time with accomplished professionals for mentorship. So saying that the parents are the first line of defense for the child is not excusing the predator but is exploring all the levels of protection that break down that make it so that these things can happen. Parents don't send your children to be in circumstances where there are no mandated reporters or child advocates present at all times.
All these artists need to be prosecuted. Steven Tyler (Aerosmith)wrote about pining after a “woman” in his autobiography… she was a teenager. GREAT STREAM! Watching how some blk folks are using the " they tryin' to take down a blk man" trope already knowing a lot of what he might have done and ALL of the rumors that are out there, was seriously disappointing! I really don't understand why a lot of us just can't admit to the degeneracy of some blk folk?
I think a lot of times we forget that as a community (black folks) we are not that far removed from the systems that "kept us in our place" a lot of people still take advantage of that mindset. Women who were children from that era are still stuck in that mindset. I have to remind my mother all the time that it is ok for her to say no to anything she does not want to do, she is 92 and still feels like it is being rude or impolite, or even "ungodly" to say no to people regardless of what they are asking for. But most of us have that creepy Uncle or family friend that we won't leave our children in the room with. I remember a scene in a Tyler Perry movie where they were at a pic-nic and the old men wanted the girl in the shorts to "go deeper" into the bottom of the barrel to get them a cold drink. I wonder how many people when they saw that scene cringed at it, or did they just laugh it off as a funny scene in a movie with a bunch of creepy old men? We been dealing with this for a long time. It's gonna take a while to be redeemed from that mentality.
this is why I loved my mother so. she was a product of the incest and considered a curse😢 she raised us to not be alone with any man especially my dad and his male relatives
All adults are guilty...mother's, father's & the predators both male & female for being negligent & immoral...Also, Us as a people have lost our true cultural identity & traditions that protected us from immoralities like this...those predators were once children... So now, how do we as parents & adults reestablish righteous "black" culture that will teach our children to not become predators.
Mom was the same. She did not play, and at the time, I did not understand, but I know now what she was doing. She was NOT playing! I am grateful for knowing her. WHAT! I never met the man and heard of this in the late 90s. Something about him having "great" parties..." Power," the Sex Man who had the Playhouse, definitely had underage girls...
This is a cogent, probing, Transparent conversation about a subject that in the past was taboo and got swept under the table. Good job ladies thank you.
15:45 the entertainment industry has been NOTORIOUS for abusing women and children. That is a known known and has been for decades! Any parent leaving their children with strangers promising them success and training is negligent at best, willing participants at worst. No excuse.
Trafficking is just a scaled up hustle for most folks. And you know no one is going to complain about a hustle. Black "Communities" and Countries sees divestment and predatory practices as opportunities.
Food for thought on holding parent accountable. I don't think people know how to verablize it, but parents should cover their kids, educate or condition them to know better. Sexual promiscuity is rampart in this country and around the world, consenual and nonconsenual. Thus, how do we combat it? Issues: 1. Underage sex. 2. Statutory rape. 3. Victimization (several areas that can be discussed).
There are a lot of people scared right now what was pulled out that house. Hell Diddy was with entertainers, preachers, presidents ECT. Make me wonder about Clive Davis.
I appreciate the discussion and as I see how widespread this Diddy case is it makes so much sense that the Me Too Movement - albeit started by a Black woman but co-opted got so much push back. I think we need a reckoning. I think this discussion should take place in every sector of society. I also think we need to create a truth and reconciliation type space for people to heal and be transparent and have community spaces for healing for the victim and what about the perpertrator. Our systems do not rehabilitate so i think that has to be a community process, but looking at all we're facing, I'm not sure it will be embraced, nor do i think there is enough energy to go to it as opposed to all the other ways Black folks are being targeted. I will say, as a young person growing up who hip hop was supposedly an expression of my life, I think critical thinking skills are crucial and who are people pushing back against a corporate-backed "community leader" vs organic, community-led leaders. But it's a whole network of people that supported and promoted lifestyle, food, drink, on and on and on.
Karen, THANK YOU for extending this conversation. You said, “We’re not playing footsies with this…. Its destroying too many lives….” Well said Professor. I’ll NEVER be loyal to titles (Black, male, Hetero, etc.) at the cost of the mass suffering of people in the community. It’s DESTROYING lives. We are talking about abuse that adds to or creates trauma that may require a lifetime of healing to manage. Did George say he believed Diddy was a “child predator” and not a child molester, and then SECONDS later he said he didn’t believe Diddy was either?? Did he start with discussing young girls, “lying to get to the stars”? Then David was about to piggyback on some of the stuff George was saying, but had to shift his comments, when Karen questioned him. Spoken like people who haven’t been touched by this issue… I bounced for years in Philly (Eagles, Rasheed Wallace, and Allen Iverson parties), so I’ve seen how all these women come out of the woodwork (wearing outlandish scraps of cloth) trying to be seen by NBA/NFL players and entertainers. It can be silly, BUT AT NO TIME did I think, “well, they came out trying to cash in, so it’s their responsibility if something happens”. Many commenters seem to be talking themselves out of a criminal’s responsibility, right up to the point when they are picking THEIR daughters, wives, or mothers up at the emergency room after an assault. When all you can do is hold them while they cry themselves to sleep, knowing they have a LONG road ahead of them, defending a talking point reveals itself as IDIOTIC. Why does this have to happen to us before we can get this?? I’ll say it again: As a man who has women in his life who have been HURT, from a community that’s been damaged by abuse/neglect, you just pray that they make it home, and cast a light on this whenever you can. So, with full chest: There is NO excuse for sexually assaulting another human being. Period. NOT because she's your wife, OR her clothes, OR because that's just how we treated slaves at that time in history, OR because that's how it is in them streets (drug world), OR because the parents/church didn’t stop them from going out.
My comments are based on my personal experience. Your panel consists of very educated women that I respect. I was speaking in code somewhat. I lost my wife kids ,home almost my on reputation, because I some up and was placed under an order of protection my a closed family member to protect themselves. It was women on one side doing things and a man on the other side. To save my kids I had to backoff. I'm forever changed by this tragedy in my life 24 yrs later. But no one believed me.
I going to tell what I experience as a child. Grandma had power, I dont know how or why, but if Grandma found out someone male or female did something unthinkable, she handled it. I know they was gone forever, never seem again, fell safe. Also we had a police lady who was involved in all our family to save the kids. We no longer has that in today society.
That caller is very correct there are people trolling and canvassing the area for unsuspecting females.Include Awareness of surroundings & sounds at all times
Why was Diddy never called out on his harmful/deviant behavior, forced to look at his life, and made to get help? How many lives have been destroyed or harmed because of him? There are many of our entertainers with this behavior. Money and power should not be a symbol for hurting people. If America was serious about this problem it would not be a Republican or Democrat talking point they would investigate, arrest, and convict all of them.
Even if a person's ignorance and insecurity puts them in the space of a predators does not make the behavior of the predators acceptable. Not respecting anyone's boundaries in all things is wrong, especially in the most intimate act a human participates in. The inability of our community to recognize is a very sad.tear😢.
I can't speak for most or all of Black men. I think it's time we just listen and learn. Resist the urge to defend whatever point you think is being missed.

@@Fortune332I will keep talking about slavery till CHRIST RETURNS!!! COWARD!!!
*And, it's ALWAYS the black community protecting thr predators and blaming the victims* !!!
Not only paw paw and uncle and dem....Aunties have also abused their nieces and nephews.
What do you say so someone who doesn't believe? Simple. Call them delusional. It is disgusting how folk put people on pedestals like this.
ALL the women in the world are NOT LYING!
Now "ALL the women in the world" are experiencing this? ALL OF THEM? I'm with you if proven beyond a reasonable doubt. But, I have to question it because is seems as if we're so really quick to send another brother to jail off of an accusation and as a man thats scary.....
Thank you 😂
There are many females and males that have a story to tell of someone's subtle or overt predatory behavior, perpetrated on them from childhood and beyond, and they just live with the memories.
Please notice there men in here too. You do remember the industry is primarily male?
The only reason people are hellbent on saying the parents is because they do not want to hold their favorite celebrity fully accountable
Thank you. I understand his point, but teenagers can lie about where they're going and who they are with. It doesn't absolve the adults around them of responsibility to keep them protected.
Not true. Diddy must be held accountable and parents must be protective of their children.
Exactly, it's crazy how folks wanna turn a blind eye. We need to call it out!
Exactly!!!!
I want to know who is Diddy's accountant -- follow the money,
💯 The money fills in a lot of blanks with a guy like that! I would LOVE to see his financials (forensic accountant in my past life?😂)

Painful, yet important. Thanks to you wonderful lovelies for talking the difficulties ❤

Parents are to be blamed too
Right. Why did she cut him off and acted like he was trying to defend Puffy. She even admitted that parents traffic their kids, so why all that toward the caller? You didn't even say that to the idiot before who actually was defending puffy. It seems like you're ok with Parents selling their kids for fame Karen.
here you are again...hmm.
Thank you for this crucial discussion.
why is the 1st go to is cruelty, abuse and degeneracy when these people get rich

social media have become most peoples safe place for information and knowledge
Its a new day, and people are trying to stand up for their self and help others to stand up, speak up, and tell your truth
Its not easy to stand up to a predator that you may know or not know. Diddy have probably delt with a predator as a child for this to be such a high profile situation in his life
30+ years of terrible negative energy he have exemplified before the world.
Look how he fled and left his boys. That's a big example of he dont care about anyone

So Awesome to see the Strong African Women having this conversation.. also remember this crazy behavior starts at home.. This was supposed to be a Holy Week for the World..
I agree..no way im sending my kids off period. Parents will sacrifice their kids

Women like your mother are dangerous, no offense.
And we thought Suge Knight was the one to fear......No one is talking about Diddy, even now with all the allegations.
Let’s not forget the everyday people who support the market for trafficking. I would like that to be a part of the conversation.
Enuff!! When are we going to Washington and get our check.
this is why I loved my mother so. she was a product of the incest and considered a curse😢 she raised us to not be alone with any man especially my dad and his male relatives

WoW!! Hes accused of sa against men and women. It seems that anyone advocating, with regards to this particular case, for 1 sex is divisive.
Food for thought on holding parent accountable. I don't think people know how to verablize it, but parents should cover their kids, educate or condition them to know better. Sexual promiscuity is rampart in this country and around the world, consenual and nonconsenual. Thus, how do we combat it?

1. Underage sex.
2. Statutory rape.
3. Victimization (several areas that can be discussed).

Its destroying too many lives….”
Well said Professor.
Spoken like people who haven’t been touched by this issue…
I bounced for years in Philly (Eagles, Rasheed Wallace, and Allen Iverson parties), so I’ve seen how all these women come out of the woodwork (wearing outlandish scraps of cloth) trying to be seen by NBA/NFL players and entertainers.
Period.
NOT because she's your wife, OR her clothes,
OR because that's just how we treated slaves at that time in history,
OR because that's how it is in them streets (drug world), OR because the parents/church didn’t stop them from going out.
So many thoughts. Raise your children with as much supervision as possible. Tell your children what is "out there" at every age level.
Don't forget to include forced hysterectomies as well
Why was Diddy never called out on his harmful/deviant behavior, forced to look at his life, and made to get help? How many lives have been destroyed or harmed because of him? There are many of our entertainers with this behavior. Money and power should not be a symbol for hurting people. If America was serious about this problem it would not be a Republican or Democrat talking point they would investigate, arrest, and convict all of them.
This is a hard, painful watch. But truly necessary. Thank you as always for your magnitude in crating a better world.
Finally this is what is missing in this discourse. Love this ladies.
I'm gonna just sit back, take notes and move differently if need be.
