So, I just tried some small odd integers for x. With x=1, we get y=5. But plugging in (1,5) does NOT make 2nd equation true (4+35=26 FALSE). Trying x=3, we get y=2, which does make the 2nd eq'n true (8+14=26 TRUE). So, (3,2) is the solution. The guess-and-check trials can be pretty quick. But if the coefficients are large, or if the answers are rational (fractional)... we're screwed. LOL! But sometimes we can get lucky (like this problem), & quickly get the answer. :-)
