I will let him know that. Thanks Dan! We’re in an Irish Pub in Port Chester, NY having something to eat before going to see an ABBA tribute band at The Capital. This band has one of the original bass players playing with them - Mike Watson. Are you guys in The Netherlands yet? Hope the tour goes great! Say hi to everyone… even Ellen.
Another great song choice here, Troy. From the glorious Olivia-wearing-leather-pants era. This is such a fantastic song. And oh so many crazy chord changes!! Amazing how the pop songs of yesteryear were quite complex. But also interesting to see how much the bass line straightens out in the chorus. So cool! Great job here, as always. I'm sure this was Wyatt approved.
Cleaning up my desk from this week's mail while listening to your cover, 1:26, I smiled and knew it would be an awesome cover. Thank you for sharing with us and Happy Birthday Sue :)
Always loved this tune... almost Halloween-ish. Didn't know (until about 4 years ago) that ELO wasn't involved with this one, John Farrar! Love the black cat tail passing in and out!
Excellent choice! I've always liked this bass line. Glad to see more Yacht Rock covers being represented. There is a goldmine of incredible basslines in the Yacht Rock genre.
Happy 33rd, you two love birds. Speaking of love, I had a huge crush on Olivia when she first appeared on the pop charts as did probably every teenage boy.
WOW What a great bass line. It carry's the song. Great job . Was a great studio player. They never get the credit they deserve for, making a song a hit. They don't get royalties either.
Great job! I used to sing along to this album often when I was in middle school. Olivia has so many great songs and top-notch musicians on her albums. Thank you ❤❤❤
@TJH3113 You too! I am healing! Taking care of my mother for 6.5 years wrecked my soul and my body, but have been taking good care of myself. Do you remember when I was a vegan? You will probably find it funny that I am healthier as a carnivore. Crazy, right?
@@Vineyardedge Aw, did your Mother pass, or enter a full care facility, or something else? Whatever the case, I'm sorry to hear about it. Lynn's Brother, who lives next door, cared for their Mother for 5 or 6 years in his home and I don't know how he did it. We'd go over every now and then, when things got crazy, but he had her 24/7 and I know it took a lot out of him. Don't let falling off the vegan wagon get you down... everything in moderation. Your body knows what it needs. Ellen Reid from The Crash Test Dummies is a vegan, but she has to make exception when they are on tour because sometimes there are no other options. Anyway, I'm glad you're feeling stronger and healthier. Talk to you later.
@TJH3113 Thank you, Troy. Yes, mom passed last September. I kept her at home...mostly at her house and then our house for the last year. It was absolutely nuts. She was care facility eligible from the beginning, so I was crazy taking on her care, but she would have gotten kicked out of a facility. She was such a rebel. I miss her, but don't miss the intensive work. Hardest job ever. Kudos to Lynn's brother. ❤️
Another great song by Olivia, one of my favorites. And who doesn't love✨ magic lol. Also loved the appearance of the cat tail at 1:06 lol😄 I really enjoyed that bass line. A nice example of less is sometimes more. Very tasteful. Happy fall🌻🦋🍂🍄🍁

You always do such a good job. Today in my car the radio was playing the Rod Stewart "da ya think I am sexy". Until then I didn't realise that the bass Line what probably the most important of that tune. Thank you very much for your work and talent.
@TJH3113 Ps Finally bought a bass on Aug 1. Epiphone Embassy in wanderlust green. Learning tablature and it's coming along. "Walking on the Moon" is the first song I've learned. Haven't attempted any Rush yet. You make it look so easy--but it's not. 💗
@@jenniferhutchison285 Congratulations! Those are sharp basses! I hope you love it. That Police song is a perfect place to start. Focus on the small stuff - getting a good, even, consistent tone out of each note with your fingers or pick.
Thanks Troy, I suggested this song to you when you played Xanadu and I'm glad you agree it's a good song with a fun and interesting bass line. Now I hear you play it I like it even more because, as you said, it's not that clear in the original mix so now we can finally hear it better. Great job, as always.
@@WimRijksen I really couldn't do this (and enjoy it) if I wasn't playing songs that had something about them that I love. Even the songs that might be considered to be on the "simpler" side take many hours for me to put together. I get a lot of suggestion and I check them all out. The vast majority of them I do not do, but I'm always grateful for the ones that do work out.
Very cool! The chords sound really interesting. Hope you're doing well. We went to see The Outsiders a couple of weeks ago. The theatre was right next door to Stereophonic, so we looked into that show and got tickets for December.
@@TJH3113 Sweet! I'm fully immersed in the project of my life: Chopin's Nocturne in E Flat! But all the tabs for it switch it to E, because that's a "guitar" key. I say screw that and I've learned like 90% of it in E flat, which is fun because I can't use any open string chords. I just need to work out a few more melody lines and I'm hoping to have a version I can post within the next year. Like I said, this is the project of my life. When i was 18, that piece opened my mind to classical and it's still my favorite "song" by anyone ever
@@TJH3113 Also - Magic is a masterpiece. You have contrasting parts like when there's an E on the bass against G minor on the guitar, and all kinds of crazy chords. I am sure I've missed a few more exotic ones, but when i jam along nothing is dissonant so I'm happy :)
Good call Troy. Very interesting song harmonically written by John Farrar, especially in the interchange between the keys of D minor in the verse and the parallel D major key in the choruses.

But my eyes lit up as I heard that sexy ONJ groove - O cool, it's that other, other Magic song. Ur Q: The lower note gets my vote
Yeah, Magic is a popular song title, isn't it? I did the Pilot song a while back... and The Cars song as well. I think it is the lower note as well. I just figured out what the guitar is doing (it only goes back and forth between two chords during that part) and the first chord is a D with an A in the bass and the second is a C with an Ab in the bass... so the lower note (Ab) works with what the guitar is playing.
Dave's right about Magic Man.
Happy Anniversary to you and Lynn.
