I love to juice beets, also. I juice the entire beet plants (leaves, stems, bulbs/roots) with carrots & some type of greens (usually kale or spinach). My sister does the same, but adds apples, so her kids will drink the juice. I think it’s plenty sweet with just the carrots, though. I never cook beets, so I’m looking forward to seeing everyone else’s recipes.
Good afternoon. This is my 1st time here. I just tilled my ground this past weekend and was unsure what all I could plant this month. Thank you for this video.
Honestly summer heat has killed so much and today im planting swiss chard, bok choi, kohlrabi transplants and seeding some others. I feel like a crazy failure, but fall comes and beautiful days then I'm filled with hope. I'll be getting a seed list together today too. 😊
@@JerrasGarden My cherry tomatoes (Sweet 100 I think) produced through the summer in Louisiana this year. I couldn`t believe it. I`ve keep the same plant alive with cuttings for two years. I`m gonna try to keep growing it indoors this winter. I didn`t like the flavor of the few micro dwarf tomatoes the pests didn`t get. They are terrible tasting and nearly impossible to grow outside too. Dozens of little worms always attack them right when they bloom but the plants are so bushy you can`t see them until the damage is done. They eat the plants from the inside out and nibble on each green tomato that forms. Happened over and over. Bug dust didn`t help.
Thank you very much. I am north of you so the info is very helpful as this is my first year planting and therefore my first fall planting I am entering. Got a satisfactory harvest for the summer some of which I am still harvesting until now. Hopefully by God’s grace I will do even better next year with all the learning I have acquired from my own experience as well as from people such as yourself. Thanks for being detailed.
Hi there, thank you so much for your good information and although I am in south of England/UK and you have such good weather compared to us and we have so much rain there is a great deal of good information that you have given out here. This year 2024 we had a rather hard time with there being hardly a spring to talk about and summer came and not for long enough too as we have now so much rain it makes for far too much watering. I have gone into the making of much more compost, as this is needed for replacing the goodness from the soil because of so much rain and hopefully be better prepared for this next spring. Very pleased to hear that you were alright regarding the hurricane. I will look forward to your guide/You Tube/video's, all the very best to you.
Hi and welcome to my channel! I travelled through the UK and countryside a few years ago. Our climates might be different, but how to grow a particular crop is the same.
I'm in Orlando. We got a lot of rain and wind but I am totally fine. Those on the coast got severe damage. The last time Orlando got hit by a category 4 was Charley in 2004 and that was the worst damage I ever saw. Worst flooding I ever saw was Ian and Nicole about 2 years ago.
Thank you for the awesome fall planting advice. I think it has the best advice I have ever gotten for what to plant at this time of the year. I am definitely going to be following your channel from now on.
I`ve planted a lot of varieties of leafy greens, tubers and herbs so far and also fall cucumbers. I rooted cuttings from my rough looking cherry tomato plant and plan to cover them (and cucumbers on the ground) with tarps when we get early frosts for as many times as I can get away with it.
Great video. I sowed seeds today. I don’t like the beets but I decided to grow a few this season to juice. I have been juicing fruits and veggies for awhile.
I am new to container gardening and I'm here in Orlando so I really appreciate your helpful videos. I have already purchased some of your seeds and will place another order after the hurricane passes. I'm going to watch the strawberry blog now. Stay safe! 😊
I love to eat the mild flavored stems of Florida Broadleaf Mustard in winter. I nibble on the raw leaves and stems to get some medicinal winter vitamins.
I always have luck with basil but the stem always gets woody. My son gave me some Cuban Oregano and it's growling like crazy. He got one cutting from his girlfriend and he lazily stuck it in a pot with a cactus and it exploded. I put some in my full sun raised bed and my shades ground area and they're both going crazy. 2 weeks ago, on a whim, I saved and planted some sugar kiss cantaloupe seeds and after only a week, I have a ton of seedlings and they're growing fast. Idk if they'll produce but it was more of an experiment than anything. I put them in a full sun raised bed so we will see. I'm in Florida zone 9b.
"Your clean vegetable garden is amazing! 🌿 I can see you put a lot of effort into taking care of each lush vegetable garden like this. Congratulations on your well-deserved success! I'm very curious, do you know what to do? What's special about growing vegetables while still maintaining such freshness and cleanliness 😊🍃"
Oh no no no, my garden is not perfect. I'm in FL and weeds literally grow overnight. It takes a lot of work to keep up. Every 3 months or so, I do a huge deep clean. I also use weed blocker material to help control things.
I tried starting my brassicas indoors in the very end of July and wound up with a greenhouse full of giant plants by the beginning of September when it was way too hot to transplant. I actually restarted them by directing sowing 2 weeks ago and they’re doing great so far. I’ll let you know if I have a good harvest. I’m zone 9B/10A and have had luck with my broccoli and Brussels all through winter here
I admire your work I live in Miami and yours suggestions, what is the substitute of spinach you recommend I can understand what you say something like pepssoil.
@Jerra's Garden I have 2 of your piracicabas started inside from seeds in early August which are now about a foot tall outside in big pots - will they produce broccoli by Thanksgiving do you think? I'm in 7A. Here's hoping Helene isn't messing you and family up!! Great tutorial and reminder video, I'm planting a lot of what you mentioned here starting this week! I wonder if carrots from seed will be harvestable by mid December? And if they're too small, will they be harvestable in early Spring? many thanks best wishes 🔥
Hi Jerra! I started bok choy, chard, and lettuce in seed trays the beginning of this month at your suggestion. How big do they need to be before transplanting outside?
I use a combination of grow bags, containers, and in ground gardening. The type to use depends on so many factors and what crop your trying to grow. In general, I plant things that like drier soils like herbs and peppers in grow bags or containers. My larger veggie crops go in the ground. My tomatoes are in grow bags because fall season is hurricane season, so if I get flooded the tomato plants wont die. They will die if in ground and it floods.
I primarily use organic granular fertilizers like Espoma or Jobes brand. I use water soluable fertilizers when I inject in my drip irrigation system. For that I use AgroThrive which is an organic liquid fertilizer. For seedlings I use Fox Farms Grow Big.
Papalo is best used fresh as it loses a lot of its flavor when dried. I have a whole video all about papalo. I need to make some recipe videos so more to come.
so excited. I've planted a lot of these already. do you know of any local nurseries in the Orlando area? I usually end up at big box stores because most things are like an hour or more away :(
There are lots of nurseries. If your looking for veggie starts try Palmers in Orlando or South Seminole farm & nursery. Practical Plants and Cody Cove Farms also have starts and unique edible plants.
I live in NE Texas. Planted 50 Tomatoes of different varieties. The plants grew up nicely but had a low fruit production. Way less than the past two years. Not sure what that's about. I even have 2 bee hives
I'm going to guess not enough pollination and/or need to boost flowers and production with potassium/phosphorus and less nitrogen. I have a UA-cam video that explains my current fertilizer schedule which has helped me get the most out of each plant: ua-cam.com/video/PHaXNGErTJ0/v-deo.htmlsi=VYhFAPYpWTvfSYe4
Hi Jerra! Your tomatoes have already been transplanted? I am zone 10a and we still have days of 90 degrees so I was waiting until the end of October, when the average temp is below 85 degrees, to transplant my tomatoes. Is this correct?
Nope, plant earlier than that for FL 10A or you miss on many weeks of production. The goal is to transplant them towards the very end of summer when the rains start to let up (and cross my fingers no hurricane). The warmth will help the seedlings grow fast. I transplanted mine around Aug 24th which is a little early even for me, but it worked out. When temperatures get above 85/90F, that is a major issue for flowering and production. The flowers drop and/or cant pollinate. In September we get a noticeable cool down, so my tomato plants are able to flower and produce successfully. In sum, transplant fall tomatoes at the very end of August or by the end of Labor day weekend in September.
Where are you located? Its cold outside for me and I'm in Orlando FL. A lot of cold weather arrived behind hurricane Milton. Its nice to be outside though and perfect for planting cool season crops.

Try planting in the shade only way. The sun is too damaging
Yay!I’ve been waiting for the Oct WtoP!
This was a huge list this month. I'm planting up like crazy.
Thanks for the info, can these veggies be
grown in a pot, or grow bags?
Thanks Again ☺️
You can grow lamost anything in containers and grow bags. So I would say yes, provided you select the appropriate size for each crop.
Cuttings from an adult tomato plant seem to do really well for me in fall.
Cuttings are way faster than starting over from seed. Unfortunately for me, summer kills all my tomato plants so I just start over with seeds.

Yes, mulching helps preserve soil moisture
Jerra, I start onions three different times and it was the only crop I couldn’t get as a newbie. I will try again next year 😢
Try with transplants if you having a hard time growing from seed. I used to buy transplants from Dixondale Farms. They ship all over the USA.
