    Pancake is 松饼。。
    煎饼 is more to deep fried or shallow fried consistency...
    松饼 is more to fluffy consistency

    Pancake is supposed to be 薄饼 in Chinese and for yam, it is called 山药 whereas 芋头 is often referred to taro. Keep this great show going!

    And I'm not sure about whether 煎饼 in Northern China (especially in Northeast China and some part of Shandong province) can be translated as "pancake" because they are so different from each other.

      ​@@Tropicmonsters "煎饼" is 薄 but not 脆, and it is folded to multiple piles and cut to a rectangular shape to sell. It is made from multiple kinds of grains, at least 2. It tastes sweet without adding sugar. The batter of it is 稀 and yeast or baking powder is not added to the batter. The batter is supposed to be brushed on a heated iron plate to make the "end product" of "煎饼".

      新加坡到处都只是通用英语,从路名到食物, 只有少数有华语名称,所以我不清楚waffle是不是应该称为松饼。

      It is also commonly know as 金瓜 as it is golden in colour but 南瓜 is its official name.

      金瓜 is more southern Chinese? Hokkiens call it 金瓜.
      Another example is potato. It is known as 土豆 on the Mainland but we called it 马铃薯 for many years.

    I am from Taiwan and answered all the questions in the vid correctly, except for Pancake and Yam....
    Either it's my own idea or common perception in Taiwan that pancake refers to 鬆餅....煎餅 is usually more crunchy to me lol
    And in my perception Yam is 山藥, for芋頭 usually I will use Taro...
    it's fun to know the difference of food callings between both sides though 😁

    I actually said 南乳 for fermented beancurd then realised that was a type of fermented beancurd, not really a generic name for it. Still 5 out of 6 .. not bad lah :D

    As a Chinese Chinese, when I heard "fermented beancurd", I would think of "发酵的豆腐", and try to match it to "normal" Chinese words...like 毛豆腐?臭豆腐?酸豆腐?酱豆腐?...something like these...

      林梅木 只是遍布南方而已,北方人很多见都没见过腐乳。腐乳传播范围是很广,不要说台湾,连越南、冲绳都有。但是最正宗的是绍兴腐乳不会变。

      As a Taiwanese I am not that offended to see this but it's surely a biased statement by a person ignorant of Taiwanese culture 😂 It is not wrong to say Taiwanese culture is an extension of Mainland Chinese culture, but that doesn't mean there is no original item invented in Taiwan.

      And I don't think Zhejiang is the only place to claim 腐乳 as their specialty. Anhui, Guangxi and Sicuhan have got their famous version of 腐乳 too. Your statement is a bit misleading.

    The best person is that Malaysian Chinese girl, good at both Chinese and English,it is said Malaysian Chinese people speak Chinese better than Singaporen although Chinese doesn't occupy much of population in Malaysia,and honestly,as Chinese,I made one mistake as well,as I didn't know the meaning of yam, but it is not bad,I got a new English word from this video, this is language, learn at any moment from any material

    I thought singaporean chinese is more competent with chinese, whenever I go to the restaurant the clerk asks me first with chinese and then changes to speak english after they notice I cannot speak chinese( I'm korean) I guess west side of singapore is more dominant area for using chinese compared to the downtown

    As a Singaporean Chinese, I realised more and more people can’t speak Chinese...at my workplace, I have one auntie telling my crew “给我那个草莓的蛋糕” my part timer come and ask me what is 草莓 😂😂😂😂 and then there is one guy ordering bubble tea want less honey, but the auntie don’t understand what is honey in English she thought he want less ice. So one chicken and one duck trying to communicate. I have to help him “auntie, 他要少蜜糖”
    lol I think the hosts’ chinese also not so good as well...

    I am not sure what's with the social media hype trying to put down Singaporeans being unable to command their languages well. I am sure if you approach the correct people at certain locations, surely you can get much better responses. Like it or not, sadly education in Singapore is about getting the good grades.

      Jia-cheng Xiao I google and 山药 is Chinese yam, mostly use to cook soup and dishes.. Yam is commonly seen as purple in color and can used in dessert, bubble tea etc..

      @@louistohh "sweet potato" has a few names in China, people in different regions call them differently- 红薯, 番薯, 地瓜 。 potato also has a few names 土豆, 洋芋 and 马铃薯。

      Maybe not available at every outlet in China, but I have seen it on the breakfast menu in some outlets in Suzhou and Shanghai.
