- This is the Japanese translated version of the song "The Way it Ends" made for the 2015 Japanese production.
I do not own Death Note the Musical or anything to do with it.

i love the English and the Japanese but i really love in this one how Light literally sounds like a wild animal. it really sounds terrifying and highlights so well the gap that's between their characters despite how similar they are
I like how all versions of this song make clear that Rem’s feelings for Misa weren’t mere friendship but *love*. Even if it’s a git like Light saying it.
The Japanese aren’t afraid to make their voices sound “ugly” for the sake of the character where as I find The English version keeps it all “pretty”
Is that just me or someone else think so too?
The thing isn't that English versions are afraid to sound 'ugly' it's that unless you see it live or a recording you wouldn't know. There is no cast recording of the Japanese cast this is taken from a recording of the musical where you have to be perfectly in character letting notes drop and adding more emotion into the song. But for the English demo, all we have is a cast recording where everything is supposed to sound 'perfect' or 'pretty' we still get some of the emotion but not as much. If you want to see what I mean you can look up a live recording of Jeremy Jordan singing Santa Fe from Newsies he lets the notes fall and brings the emotion of the song out to really shine, he also played light for the demo

Start at 2:12:00 for the ending sequence. This version’s weird, the songs have all been dubbed over with English but the majority of the play is the original Japanese.
Lights voice sounds much more evil, compared to the English version

I personally prefer this version. It shows that even when Light thinks he outwitted him, L was already a few steps ahead. Once our savant learned that Light was relying on supernatural means he easily realized that there would be a Faustian price to pay. Even if he was slightly off, it’s sufficient to conjecture that the contract would be bound to the game (since that was all that got Ryu’s interest), this there was never going to be freedom.

This versions alright, and it's definitely enjoyable, but I have to say I like the English version better. IDK, it just feels more meaningful. This one just feels like Light is gloating while L is admitting he lost. Whereas, the English version feels like Kira and the Great Detective are squaring off in one last match of wits while also saying goodbye-it feels like they're on equal footing. While this one feels like Light is talking down to L and L's just taking it.

God this is is SO much better than the English version. Actually fits emotional vibes instead of just sounding like two plain boys singing a song together.

And when L sings that, he is referring back to
L:

ゲームが終わる時 / gêmu ga owaru toki / when the game is over
So while Light thinks what will make him happy is for L to die so he can win, and then create his utopia and rule as a god, L is saying that what Light really wanted all along was a challenge, someone on his level, and that when the game ends he is going to go back to being bored and frustrated again.
And if we look back to the song Light sings right after picking up the Death Note, this is what he sings:
YES!! And once Ryuk is revealed to L before this song I personally think L knows that once their game is over and he dies, so will Light, as he can see Ryuk only cares about a watching a show. L's last words before he dies is, "You have by no means won, Yagami Light", which is just too good

@@5Mayday5 enjoy mate thank you my translation was to show the more directness of the characters it’s not exactly perfect but it comes from native version I am first language both English and Japanese grew up side by side so I thought I’d edit and offer my own I think one or two mistakes from when I tried adding Romaji in songs and decided to remove but missed some aside from that it’s translation sorry if none of this makes sense I’m very tired when I’m writing this I haven’t slept in 2 days properly lol

Oof. Gotta admit, I prefer the English version. First off, I miss L's first verse. Second, I don't think I like Urai's voice very much, although I love Koike's and Kakizawa's. Third, I'm not sure what's with the (slightly irritating) raspyness on this song. Is there something I'm not understanding about it?

To me, it sounds like it was recorded live on stage rather than in a studio, otherwise they would have been able to take time to perfect it. I certainly noticed a point after Light's first verse where he went off-key, which I would attribute to nerves during a live performance. It could have been an intentional choice (and brave if so), but that could be your answer :)
I prefer it because of the raspiness. This Light is vicious
light's actor actually has a really nice voice, he just overdid the raspiness in this one lol. he sounds really good in the japanese version of secrets and lies.

My favorite song number 6. I love more japan version. ( i like english version too but not very much)
In my opinon, i like the english version bc of the "pretty" voice. I mean this actor did amazing, their incrediable. But to me (my opionin) a part of light's charector is being seen as a smart little naive, "pretty" guy. And L sees through it. Thats what makes them good rivals. L even says it in lies and games of the japenese version.

But i still love the differences.
Light lost it in the final confrontation with Near in the anime/manga, and he's constantly laughing evilly in his room whenever he thinks his plans work out e.g. Lind L Taylor, so it's not unreasonable to assume he might drop the mask here in the final battle with L too.

Yeah, I agree because in this situation, Light feels like he's winning. He has no reason to really lose his cool. He's smug, proud, relaxed, perhaps even a bit resigned in the English version. I do enjoy both versions of the song and do love the touch of insanity this actor brings to the table (I'd probably just reel it in a tad bit and place more of it toward the end as to have it "slip out" in his desperation.) Though it is clear to us that this was Lights goal: Kill L, he knows it will never be the same without him. I just really enjoy how sad and love song-y it is in the English because it just feels so right. Seeing him break his mask would be amazing in this moment though UGHH IM TORN

Fake how? The English version is the original version of the musical. The music was written by the same composer of the Jekyll & Hyde musical (you can hear a similar musical style to the songs in song 10. Bring On The Men - Jekyll & Hyde).
@@bozieduble8541 Both version have it own special take on the story and they both pretty good. But while Jekyll & Hyde composer did write the English version, the first show case of the musical was in Japan. Later on, it was adapted to Korean and English.
The Japanese version completely blew it when it came to adapting this song.
I actually prefer the meaning in this language because instead of L reiterating that he is dying, he warns Light of what is to come after he dies.
