I am forever indebted to ABBA for this song. When our 2 year old son passed away it was this beautiful music that helped release the pent-up grief. Still makes me cry 30 years later.
"Sometimes i Wish That I Could Freeze The Picture , And Save It From The Funny Tricks Of Time" Heartbreaking lyrics right there. This should have been released as a single instead of "Head Over Heels" It's far superior & would have no doubt given them their 10th No 1 single in The UK.
Not sure that these song could be #1 I think that is the best song of The Visitors album, but not too comercial to pick at Top of the charts and I think that Head over heels was good enough to be Top 10
Hello Dereck, it was only Agnetha in the verses. She recorded two voices for the second verse which were blended in the final mix. Thanks to her great singing ability she was able to make herself sound slightly like a child in the second voice (which struck you).
@@HolgerJakobs The most modern technology was used at ABBA. So even then it shouldn't have been an art to change Agnetha's voice so that it sounds more childlike.
The best ABBA song in my opinion. Everything about it is perfect. Please also do My Love, My Life and I've Been Waiting For You. Two lesser known, but certainly not lesser quality ABBA songs

It IS a beautiful song. This was the theme of a very well done sequence in the Mama Mia movie. I continue to love watching your reactions. You have a beautiful smile, BTW!
Of course they do multitrack of their voices. But Agnetha and Frida are famous for their voices come together and create a "third voice" I guess that often is when they shared a lead like Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia etc...
No third voice. Just the girls managing to create a child-like quality to their vocals to fit the lyrics. As you may have noticed, this track slides into the next and last track with the start of the ticking clock on 'Like an angel passing through my room'.
The true genius of ABBA’s songs is how they captured the joy and tragedy in the everyday moments of ordinary people’s lives. The emotions of every mother raising a child in this song; the highlight of teenage fantasy in Dancing Queen; heartbreak in SOS; the hard work of marriage in One Man, One Woman; the tragedy of divorce in The Winner Takes It All; the monotony of loneliness in The Day Before You Came.
Your reaction and analysis to an ABBA song is now a much anticipated event! You readily identify the vocal layering and individual instruments in each song. I look forward to your reaction to Soldiers from the Visitors
There's a live performance of this track on the Dick Cavett interviews ABBA. It's the band's last live performace on tv. The performance is more poignant and heartbreaking than the studio. Agnetha feels every words. Her eyes tells a whole lot of story.
Derek, I admire you because being a young person, you have the ability to recognize the music with quality from which ABBA is one of the best creators and performers of that. The way you feel the music of ABBA is the same way I used to feel it when I was on my 20s (in the 80s). Thanks for being a young person with good taste for music. 💚💚💚
I think the chorus here is a good example of how their voices beautifully complement each other :) I love how different they are and how nicely they sound together ❤
This is a very emotional, heart felt song with the lyrics by Bjorn about his daughter, Linda. They have a daughter and a son. If you ever read any books about ABBA you will find how many layers Frida and Agnetha (An-yetta) put in most of their songs. As Agnetha said they made a chorus out of their voices. There is no one but Frida and Agnetha singing. That is their magic.
Quite often Agnetha's voice was sampled to create the effect that there was 2 voices. If you listen very closely you can tell it's Agnetha's voice. Agnetha's ability to connect the emotion to the lyrics is something she has said in an interview that she does to bring the meaning of the song through. She was very connected to her children. She had a daughter first then a son with Bjorn.
This song was meant for my deceased wife and i. I often cry because I miss her deeply this. Is a reminder of great time we had together which I now missed
From what I know, no backing vocalists were used on their recordings, apart from the choir in I Have A Dream. All vocals were done by the four of them. Incredible skill!
there's splendid live version from the Dick Cavett Special in 1981... like that live version even better than the studio one... it never got me at the time, but when it became a center song in the musical Mamma Mia the beauty of the song struck me.... could have been a single as well...
that live version is also interesting because during the verses, you get an alternative sound as Frida sings harmony - on the studio version (verses only) Agnetha does double-vocal tracks and sings harmony to herself, making it sound more fragile & vulnerable, Frida sings the harmony for the chorus
Beautiful harmonies 🎵 the ‘third voice’ you’re hearing there is the magic that happens when A&F sing together in harmony. There is no actual third singer.
It’s really so heartwarming seeing your reactions to ABBA’s music because you don’t hold back in your recognition of the beauty of the songs as well as the complexity of the arrangements. I would venture to assume most of the comments are from people like myself who have grown up with the music of ABBA that it’s practically part of our DNA at this point. Since you are reviewing The Visitors album there is a track which was recorded during the sessions for The Visitors album which did not make the final cut but has subsequently been included on reissues of the album called “Should I Laugh or Cry” which I would suggest you do a reaction video for. Also from “The Visitors” album is the song “One of Us” which I highly recommend as well. Finally, this song is not on “The Visitors” album (it’s on the “Super Trouper”) but you really should do a reaction video for it “The Winner Takes It All”. I’d really love to see your reaction. Keep up these awesome reaction vids. I watched some of the Spanish artists reaction vids you have posted. Check my comment on Thalia’s “A Quien Le Importa”.
The ticking at the end is the mix into the next track 'Like an angel passing through my room' which is stunning and ends the album. It features one of Frida's best vocals as far as I'm concerned and you should definitely react to it if you haven't already. Thanks Dereck - love your channel.
I get such a kick out of someone discovering the absolute genius of this group! Your reactions never disappoint. Since you've said Lay All Your Love On Me is (so far) your favorite track, may I strongly suggest Me And I (both were from Super Trouper-which doesn't have a single bad song on it imo). Benny's synth work and the ladies' harmonies are incredible.
"Slipping through my fingers" (1981) is in my opinion the most testimonial and experiential song by ABBA This lyrics are very deep, about the growth of a son and how those moments of time go by day by day the guitarist Björn writes it about her 7/8 year old daughter and her mother Agnetha sings it Sometimes it is related to "The winner takes it all", because it has as protagonists Björn and Agnetha But there are differences between the two stories: 1) that is the figurative story about a divorce (although probably with parts of the reality that Agnetha and Björn lived), but this is a story inspired by the daily lives of parents another difference with 2) this does not arouse the morbidity of the leading couple, it is an intimate story of parents and children that generates tenderness and nostalgia 3) perhaps this one does not have the usual catchy refrains of ABBA or a powerful melody like that, here its melody is soft, cared for and intimate, it accompanies without invading the wonderful emotional interpretation of Agnetha, that always shines much more when the song asks to express the feelings In short, it's a beautiful song by melody and interpreter lyrics, it touches the most intimate fibers of emotion and nostalgia, in my Top 20 of all ABBA songs
So very very beautiful. and no, there was no other voice on this. Agnetha did this all with her voice ( and Frida in the chorus, for sure). Also a very emotional moment in the first mamma mia movie.
This song also is a highlight in mamma mia movie..great song..it is for agnetha"s daughter Linda....💖💙💛 They knew how to manipulate their voice to sound like a child..😁😁😁 Linda is the first born of Bjorn and Agnetha...😁😁😁
The girls both had the ability to make their voices tiny. But it was Frida and Agnetha doing vocals. THe live version they did, they recreated this to an extent. Bjorn and Agnetha have a son and daughter. The daughter LInda was going off to school when Bjorn noticed her growing up before his eyes, and all the time he missed. Christian, the son, hadn't started school yet.
Oh, no.... no no no! How can I compete? Just look at this guy! Yes I look incredible on my “the winner takes it all” video but not THIS good. I think I’ll just eat myself into a jammie Dodger coma 👍

Linda, her daughter did not sing on this track but Agnetha did a Christmas album in Swedish with her many years ago. I believe this song is based on her daughter though.
I heard in an interview that Agneta's daughter (with Bjorn) was one of the reasons Agneta wanted to stop touring so she wouldn't miss all the time with her daughter while she was still small, so I have always thought there was a personal connection to this song.
What you can hear is Agnetha singing with herself. The girls' voices were often doubled up to make the "wall of sound" that Benny and Björn wanted to create.
Ohhhh Dereck thats mine and my daughters song ! i was married at 21 have 3 amazing kids my daughter Ella was young when i left and came out so this is our song because i feel i missed out on her development, now she is a mental health nurse but volunteers to work on the Covid 19 isolation ward s !! my angel !!
I'm a big fan of Abba since when i was in highschool until now i preserved their 10 cassette tapes i have their cd's Abba Gold and I know to sing many of their songs.
You are correct for the most part. The world at large loved ABBA and new their songs, but in the U.S. not so much. In the states it was considered uncool to like ABBA, the Carpenters, or the Bee Gees during the 1970s
@@vendelayindustries Mostly in media and in public though. Being hateful against everything "commercial" was so hip. At least until around 1978/79 when the prog era was over, and Abba also became more sophisticated in their sound. Then few people could deny their qualities.
Agneta's and Björn's two children are Linda, born 1973, and Christian, born 1977. So, this song was about Linda, who was 8 years old in 1981 when they recorded it.
Indeed...my boys are now in early 20's, was single dad for 11 years... I now find myself with treasured memories and missing days passed.... Bjorn and Agnetha had each, daughter, Linda, and son, Peter Christian...
About Bjorn and his daughter to Agnetha growing up before his eyes.... At the ABBA museum he explains how he was sitting in his kitchen watching her walking down the garden path heading to school, and NO her daughter never sang on the track.... if you watch the LIVE version of the song you will notice it's Agnetha's voice sounding like the child high pitched... HOWEVER you will hear her daughter sing with her on Agnetha's solo album "My colouring book"
This song choked me up when I think of my mom and all she’s done for me. We tend to fight a lot but I know she does everything for me and has sacrificed so much. I can’t listen to this without crying. I’m going away now to continue my education and this is really hitting now. 💔 Beautiful song
There were no other singers on the track only Agnetha & Frida. I’m pretty sure the verse beginning “Sleep in our eyes...” is only Agnetha singing but twice through if you get my meaning. Also the track was written about Agnetha & Bjorn’s daughter Linda who was around 8 when Bjorn wrote the lyrics detailing how she was growing up so fast. I hope that helps! It’s a fantastic track & very poignant. Keep up the great work Dereck loving your work! From a lifelong ABBA fan 😉
Dereck you must check out "I've Been Waiting for You" . It's not a well known ABBA song but, as a long time ABBA fan, I think it's one of their best. There is a video for the song and a live version from ABBA The Movie.
'Slipping Through My Fingers' is my second favourite ABBA song and its my favourite song from The Visitors album and ABBA also recorded a Spanish Version called 'Se Me Esta Escapando'.
There was Definately no 3rd singer used, the only ABBA song that has other vocalists used is I Have A Dream. Anna and Bjorn had 2 children together 1 boy and 1 girl.

"Slipping through my fingers" (1981) is in my opinion the most testimonial and experiential song by ABBA
This lyrics are very deep, about the growth of a son and how those moments of time go by day by day
the guitarist Björn writes it about her 7/8 year old daughter and her mother Agnetha sings it
Sometimes it is related to "The winner takes it all", because it has as protagonists Björn and Agnetha
But there are differences between the two stories:
1) that is the figurative story about a divorce (although probably with parts of the reality that Agnetha and Björn lived), but this is a story inspired by the daily lives of parents
another difference with
2) this does not arouse the morbidity of the leading couple, it is an intimate story of parents and children that generates tenderness and nostalgia
3) perhaps this one does not have the usual catchy refrains of ABBA or a powerful melody like that, here its melody is soft, cared for and intimate, it accompanies without invading the wonderful emotional interpretation of Agnetha,
that always shines much more when the song asks to express the feelings
In short, it's a beautiful song by melody and interpreter lyrics, it touches the most intimate fibers of emotion and nostalgia, in my Top 20 of all ABBA songs
So very very beautiful. and no, there was no other voice on this. Agnetha did this all with her voice ( and Frida in the chorus, for sure). Also a very emotional moment in the first mamma mia movie.

Please On And On And On, I've been waiting for you, My Love My Life
Dereck you must check out "I've Been Waiting for You" . It's not a well known ABBA song but, as a long time ABBA fan, I think it's one of their best. There is a video for the song and a live version from ABBA The Movie.
Listening to this song makes me remember my dads passing and how I wish he was around to watch me grow up it always makes me cry
So cool....You talk about the third voice.....When Frida nad Agneta sung together they created the third voice.........A ghost voice
'Slipping Through My Fingers' is my second favourite ABBA song and its my favourite song from The Visitors album and ABBA also recorded a Spanish Version called 'Se Me Esta Escapando'.
Gorgeous beautiful song... No its just the two girls singing.
I am rock N roll guy,but i dont know why i really really love abba songs! Verry good songs!
I love that you're covering classic pop...keep up the great work Dereck
ABBA, the gift that keeps on giving.
There was Definately no 3rd singer used, the only ABBA song that has other vocalists used is I Have A Dream. Anna and Bjorn had 2 children together 1 boy and 1 girl.
I love this song ❤❤
You should try out some songs from Benny and Bjorn’s first musical Chess, i.e. One night in Bangkok, I know him so well.
