    Annoying how people are coming down on DI when really he's trying to look out for wrestler's well being. A lot of guys don't get that less is more and are destroying their bodies for diminished returns. Shawn Michaels fueled a lot of the push towards a more athletic style but he used it in moderation and people never saw it or didn't see what he did between the spots to make them matter. A lot of wrestling is more like using the wrestling to tell a story to make people care about the wrestling.

    • @GlenChundemigod
      @GlenChundemigod 4 роки тому +2

      Right on the money. I remember this one match I had (I used to wrestle in 2016 and early 2017). We had 10 minutes. We actually wrestled for 6 minutes or so with 3 planned spots. The opening, the mid match hope and then the specific finish. 4 minutes were spent playing to the crowd. There was this one point where I had hit a big boot and picked up the guys title belt and started declaring that I should be champion already among other stuff. As I was doing so he had started to recover until he noticed I was holding his belt and we locked eyes for a whole 10 seconds before I tried to whack him with it and he ducked and off we go again. So we had a whole 40 second moment from boot to belt shot attempt just working the audience.
      Oh and the crowd was getting so hot that they cheered like maniacs for every punch and clothesline after that. And when I caught him coming off the top with belly to belly suplex and he kicks out at the last moment? Forget about it. I've seen finishers get lesser reactions.
      So few guys take that time to establish a connection with the crowd. So often you see matches that would play out the same way with or without a crowd there. Been in the crowd for a few myself and you can feel it. In that instance you don't re-act the same way and only really politely cheer and clap for the dangerous looking stuff. But take the time to make the crowd feel like they can spur a guy on with their cheers or upset the heel with their boos and then you go to the next level.
      Wow your comment lit a fire there. But my point is Disco is right. These guys are killing themselves to get a reaction they would get much easier if they just did a 2 sweet gesture to the crowd. Ferrari's are exciting to see because there aren't many of them. If every car was a Ferrari then they'd just be another car.

    Bret Hart and Mr. Perfect were the epitome of safe ring work that looked real good on TV

  • @ambrosewetherbee8301
    @ambrosewetherbee8301 4 роки тому +6

    To be honest, I was never a fan of Disco Inferno in his prime(I just could never get into the gimmick, his ring work was perfectly fine) but I'm in total agreement with him on his view of guys hurting each other these days unnecessarily in order to get pops.
    There's a real art and science to ring work that a lot of guys these days either have not been trained in or have eschewed in order to fish for what I would consider cheap pops. It's a vicious cycle because when wrestling fans that have only known the contemporary product only see this kind of work, they don't realize that you can get over with safer work that still looks good/real/compelling. So the current trend of dangerous and risky work is what these current fans are educated on. They pop for these things because they don't know any better and the workers continue to work unsafely because they think they can't get pops without risking their safety. It's a shame.

    Drives me nuts when people use the "he never drew a dime" line. VERY few wrestlers actually drew people to the shows. Hogan, Austin, Rock, Andre, Flair, Cena, they were among the few wrestlers who actually DREW people to see a show. Guys like Disco where there to entertain people while they waited for the big draws and make them look good and he did a very good job at it like so many others. I can honestly say I never heard anyone say they were going to a show to see Cody Rhodes either. I like the guy and think he's very talented and wish him and AEW success but some of his comments rub me the wrong way.

      Al Snow said it best, you're either the main reason they're buying a ticket or your helping sell the tickets. They wouldn't have kept him around as long as they did if he didn't entertain enough fans on some level.

    • @GlenChundemigod
      @GlenChundemigod 4 роки тому +3

      Same. There are a whole lot of factors that go into selling tickets. Some people seem to think that if you find that magical one wrestler then everything else is solved but they're wrong. People in the business who think fans are buying tickets to sit in an arena for 5 hours to see one guy do a catchphrase or work for 10 minutes are deluded. You need an entire roster or talent that can keep people entertained for the whole show.

    Disco is absolutely right, I remember Bret Hart saying once that the best worker is the guy who makes it look as real as possible without hurting their opponent and these strong-style marks go out there and basically try to hurt each other to get the best rating from Meltzer. Why not go out there and just have a shoot fight like UFC?????

      pusang halaw+ Bret's been in the business, much longer then HTM. If Bret said , that and he did. you can bet HTM was hitting too soft. Bret was a perfectionist in the ring and i believe he knows the difference. HTM is a very angry man ,in case you haven't noticed. He's also a low life for making fun of Bret's stroke. HTM has crossed the line, there are some things in life you don't do. Making fun of people ,who have suffered from stroke'sor any type of illness, just shows their true colors. I have no respect for HTM and it's a shame, because i was a big fan.

    • @pusanghalaw

      +don emerson:
      you're wrong any many ways. bret and HTM can be seen together in many autograph signings after those comments were made and bret was ok with it and they get along fine today. hitting too soft is still much better than giving your opponent a concussion - besides, bret sells well enough so no real need to work stiff. And HTM has started professionally in 1977, bret started in 1978 - do your research before you expose how much of a mark you are.

    • @donemerson699
      @donemerson699 6 років тому

      You are wrong in every way. First, Bret was born into the business.Second, Bret is a good man and a forgiving one too. That doesn't excuse the low life comment about his stroke. It revealed what type of person HTM really is. I can see you don't have the I.Q. to agree. Bret was not ok with HTM making fun of his stroke. Are you for real pusang? Are you really that stupid? No stroke victim would ever be ok with that. Your ignorance and thinking it's just ok shows your true colors too. Good job on showing the page your stupidity too. Job well done!

    It's always easy to see an old school guy you didn't grow up with and "laugh" and think they were "funny" for the wrong reasons. I used to do it too in the 90s when I'd see 80s and 70s guys. I opened my big mouth and didn't understand the context of what the character was at the time. And then I grew up and learned.
    That's how I know most of the people who comment and shit on disco aren't from the actual Monday night wars era.
    Always find it rich that Cody Rhodes, the son of the legend dusty Rhodes, and brother of the legendary Goldust commented that Disco was "riding people's coattails". I was unaware that Disco had a famous brother who'd gimmick disco could borrow to be a supervillain and play on a TV show as. I guess I always missed the WCW era when Disco was on a world title chase under the storyline that he's continuing his family's greatness.
    Disco may have been a "goofy" character. But that's only if you weren't around for the era. The guy earned his stripes and has a right to speak. He knew who he was, and he had no misgivings about his place on the card. And when he wanted more, he didn't have multiple organizations to run to and embarrass himself and cry about how WCW didn't give him a fair shake. And he didn't have a social media to cry to and rally kids behind him to help push her merch potential and use as an echo chamber for how bad they want to see him with a title.
    Rhode's is nothing more than viral video. He's the Bad Bunny of wrestling. In these eras where mfs can't even wrestle, get injured every other week, and constantly get replaced by who's more viral, I doubt Cody with be anything more than slightly above mid card in a year or so.

    He has got a point in regards of the current style. My favourite wrestler, Misawa, worked a style like that for pretty much his entire career and ended up dead in the ring because of it. Refused to take time off, kept working hard even though his body was pretty much done years back.
    You look at guys in WWE, AEW, NJPW, they're all going way too fast. It looks cool, but it will eventually catch up in a bad way. I hate to say it, but it's inevitable we will see another death in the ring because of it, you can't keep doing this stuff week in week out without something like that happening. Even if it's a safe and normal move, the absolute wear and tear on the body will just break.

    I don't watch wrestling for shoot style fights. I watch it for the characters, storylines, and yes the athleticism in the ring. But when I want to watch a real fight, I'll watch UFC or some other MMA match or Boxing. Seeing a guy dive off the top of a balcony on top of a table or powerbomb off the top rope to concrete floor might be exciting once every year or so, but some of these guys think it needs to be done in every damn match, and that in itself gets boring and one note.

Oh and what a surprise Cody is triggered because someone isn't praising the indies wouldn't be the first time he got butthurt over that *cough Daniel Cormier cough*

      ShutYoMouth hahaha "uncultured swine" you hurt my feelings fanboy. Now the reason the business is unpopular isn't the fans it's the fucking wrestlers themselves if WWE did something dumb like this id call them out on it aswell but are you actually naive enough to think the technical wrestling/indie/NJPW fanboys(including Meltzer) wouldn't shit on it. but I bet you're one of those "I watch indies and Japanese wrestling I'm a real wrestling fan" people. Ibushi might be a star to the hardcore indie/Japan fans but no one else knows or gives two shits about him. Another classic example of a wrestling fan who gets upset when someone doesn't kiss the ass of the wrestler they like at this point I'm not sure who's worse the indie/NJPW fanboys or the WWE fanboys. I'll give you this though atleast you were intelligent enough to give a proper response unlike the idiots who use the "you're username means you're trolling" bs.

      Adam Sandler Deserves An Oscar okay name calling aside your missing the point, in the context of that promotion it makes sense. Ddt loves that kinda shit, a literal ladder won on a belt. Would that work in wwe? No just like a lot of lucha under ground shit wouldnt work in wwe, but people go to that promotion for that so saying its shit is fine, its not for you, but in the context of the promotion it makes sense. People pay money to see different wacky bullshit, that is how they draw. Ibushi is great, hes is extremely talented but he loves pushing what wrestling can be, and you should check him out rehardless of that video because he is actually really great on more serious enviorments. Everyone should watch the wrestle kingdom match between him and Nakamura because its amazing. Ive shown it to all to wwe friends and they love it.
