And when they rehired norm to host he said " either I've got a lot funnier or this show has got a lot worse " or something along those lines 🤣
“I’ve not gotten any funnier! The show’s just really bad! So to recap, the bad news is…I’m still not funny. But the good news is…the show blows!”
Gets me absolutely every time 😂
@Pro Token420 Weekend Update is the only thing worth watching now.
Thank you for repeating that, just showing my appreciation. I figure i might as well be annoyingly considerate😡🫠😉🤩😶🌫️
“So I’m funny compared to…well you’ll see in a minute”
@@muraddiab6393 Alright we've got a bad show for you!
wikipedia: Ohlmeyer "received notoriety for firing Norm Macdonald from Saturday Night Live in early 1998, a move that is widely believed to have been motivated by Macdonald's refusal to stop making jokes at the expense of Ohlmeyer's friend, O.J. Simpson."
If only Norm was here today
@@guddy0202👏💚💙💛🩵🧡🪦😢✨️
@@guddy0202 The cruelest joke that God ever played was taking Norm before OJ.
Don’t delude yourself. The real reason Norm got fired was his humorous targeting of the Clintons, particularly Hillary. Someone was directed by political power to make it stop by any means necessary.
@@warweasel2832but barely and obviously God wanted to see norm before punting OJ, so Norm could witness it
Tell the folks at home who Don Ohlmeyer is.
OJs bff
He’s a swedish-german
OJ Simpson’s friend and supporter of his evil deeds. Good thing Don never believed in a place called hell.
Party at Norms when Ohlmeyer croaks
@@matts9064 Norm died
Don Ohlmeyer died recently and firing Norm Macdonald was the first thing mentioned in his obit. I guess, in a way, Norm got his revenge.
Love to see it.
"This guy died. Heres the one thing he is remembered for, something dumb he did to support a murderer."
One guy just couldn't let it go😅
@@dahyeshaouudoo-ing1463Norm was fired by Ohlmeyer for making fun of OJ, whom Ohlmeyer defended and who was also a murderer.
He is NOT funny, though!
That delivery on "Ooh that's not good" is immaculate, the perfect understatement
"Did ya have a turkey there for the thing???"
I love that line.
Joe biden loves it so much, he used it in one if his own skits 😅
"You're not funny"
::Immediately say's something hilarious::
"You're not funny."
Gee, there was a lot of laughs from the OJ Jokes
Norm wouldn't have it any other way.. 😅 The man is a Legend!
“Hilarious”
Don was good friends with OJ. Norm made to many jokes about OJ. Norm was truly one of a kind. Genius at comedy, genius in general. Gave 0 f!@ks as they say but yet one of the kindest people in the business. A legend that was taken way too soon. I could go on and on about Norm. The only celeb I ever had a tear for when passed.
They warned Norm to stop telling OJ jokes. So,naturally he told more OJ jokes. He did not give any Fuqs. Norm was the best. He was the guy all the other comedians wanted to watch when he did stand up at a comedy club.
@@shaneculkin7124 🤦♂️
Good friends? You are a master of understatement. Ol Don damn near worshipped at the altar of Orenthal. Ohlmeyer was a mistake at NBC, had no idea concerning who the audiences actually were.
He very much reminds of a BBC style.
@@shaneculkin7124 I’m not reading all that.
That Norm is a funny guy
Apparently the boss was friends with OJ and didn't like the jokes about him
The boss was friends with a vicious and cold blooded murderer then wasn't he?
Yes this is true, he warned Norm to stop the OJ jokes so Norm double downed and increased them 😂
He wasn't joking, he was only giving the real factual news, no other news outlet covered about OJ and his lucky stabbing hat, Norm did
I think it was the quantity!😂
Oj was innocent
" Did you have Turkey there for the thing?"That is so Canadian.
Don Ohlmeyer couldn’t produce gas after a bean supper.
Ouch
Apparently the gas was struck back in by oj
@@gowthamgangaraju2881dude 😂 I can see Norm replying with something like that on the fly
He fancies himself a creative. But he couldn’t create gas after a bean dinner.
He seems so effortlessly funny.
He was
Early on, before SNL, most didn't know what to make of him. He played a comedy club I worked in, back in 1991. I was very excited that he was coming, I'd caught him on a televised special with about a dozen comedians and had taped it so I watched it over and over, knew all the comics' routines so well and loved his especially. My friends and I used to toss his lines at each other all the time.
At the club, no one else had caught that or cared, apparently. I watched every set that week, which is 8 shows. Took him with us to our after work bar for drinks and games after the Thursday show. He was not a drinker then, got way too drunk, had to run offstage to puke during his set the next day, lol. But he hung out all night with me and my best friend, and he was the kindest, most uncommonly considerate and naturally funny human I'd ever met. And I knew Regan, Jeni, Larry Miller, some of the greats. But it was just Norm, he was funny, himself. Seeing him go from the guy the whole staff ignored then to the comedy God he became...always made me smile. He so deserved it all. It's surreal that he's gone.
"Not funny" is code for, "You went after too many people we like".
SNL telling Norm he’s not funny is like a Big Mac telling cheese sandwich that it’s unhealthy
What? Neither is healthy
@blackdragon5274 stop feigning ignorance please... you know what the joke was about.
@@gordo1191 Huh?
@ipz576 the joke clearly implies that the cheese sandwich js the healthier option, and this guy goes "huh? Both are unhealthy" as if he doesn't understand the joke because a "cheese sandwich" is unhealthy. That's called feigning ignorance. Are you aware of what that means?
@@gordo1191 huh?
Guys making jokes while being fired 🔥
Fun fact: O.J. is still hunting for the real Killer, Ohlmeyer, to this day!
OJ Simpson can finally rest knowing that the man who killed his wife is dead.
Letterman really likes and respects Norm. Hes the only person i see Letterman treat so nice. If u know what type of person Letterman is, u would know how special that is
Letterman is the type of guy whose seal of approval actually meant something, he didn’t suffer fools gladly 💯
He was one of the Funniest people to ever be on SNL.
I know that.
Before the republikkkanns were poosys
Imagine telling Norm Macdonald that he’s not funny. Don Ohlmeyer was probably the only person on the planet that believed that.
The only true cancellable offense has always been upsetting rich people
This needs more likes.
That is a good point, well made!
Brilliant title for the video. Norm’s style open with the punchline LOL
I loved Norm’s timing and comedy. What a genius!
You can tell he's a true comedian because even other comedians would be saying this all in an offended, angry or maybe sad, dramatized way. The way he took things, or at least dealt with it, shows a high level of EQ. Basically, he didn't take it personally, he didn't get offended and didn't try to get back at the guy who was clearly trying to put him down and humiliate him, made light of an uncomfortable situation and then proceeded to make a joke out of it, taking all the seriousness of the situation aways and leaving him in a very great place emotionally and mentally. You can say he obviously had tons of self-confidence so the opinion of the guy about him simply didn't matter. All he did was to give him a subtly sarcastic reply and that was all. The way he delivers it makes the sarcasm very light and smooth.
…that and Xanax stuffing…
You should always take those things personal, because they always are, the people that say it isn't personal are the ones that don't want to have to deal with the consequences.
Even if you take it personally: It's material. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is fodder for a comedian's material.
Dead pet? There's gotta be a joke in that...
That’s the most gangster way to respond to a firing I have ever heard. Norms stories are awesome.
I wish this clip was about 15 sec longer. The next part about him saying he has nothing to fall back on is good too.
When he played a small club in Chicago in 1991, I was wokring there and got to spend a lot of time with Norm that week. No one else really paid attention to him. Not even the aspiring comics. But I'd seen him on a TV special with a bunch of comics, had taped it and watched it over and over. I knew a good chunk of his set by heart once we'd booked him so I was thrilled. Watched all 8 sets that week.
He told me back then that his plan was to work one week per month, and do aboslutely nothing the rest of the time. He only made about a grand for a week as a headliner then. Not huge money. Just enough to pay all the bills, and for food, lol. He was fine with that. Said he had no drive to do more. And he wore these terrible sweaters. Cosby sweaters. Boy from the Shining sweaters. It was all unique and just made me like him more. He seemed pretty tickled that he'd figured out how not to work a real job, lol.
@@Kinesiology411 thanks for sharing. I regret not ever seeing him live.
@@micahwest5347 I worked at that club for years, saw some of the greatest comics to ever grace a stage, but seeing Norm 8 times that week - which never got old - is definitely the high point of my time there, lol. Hung out with and dated some amazing comics, saw tons of sets, but that was always my special favourite! Wish they'd been recording those sets.
just enough to have some tomato sandwiches home with mom;
bless his heart
I knew nothing about Norm except him doing the SNL news skit. I always thought he was funny. Then i remember hearing he was fired for not being funny.I thought wtf maybe i just have weird comedy taste. Im so glad that in the following years he was a confirmed comedic genius loved by many.
See if you can find episodes of his sitcom “NORM” it was hilarious 😂
Oh and Dirty Deeds is a classic
No that was a lie he was actually fired because he was too funny. I’m not even joking that really is the reason, one of the executives got so offended by his OJ jokes and how they made people laugh he called him, told him he “wasn’t funny”, then fired him. That executive name was Don Ohlmeyer, who unsurprisingly was good friends with OJ.
@@davidcleveland1071"work"
ALWAYS LOVED NORMS HUMOR. R.I.P. 🙏
"Did you have a turkey there for the thing?"
Norm was one of the all-time greats. Blazed his own trail and never looked back.
He was awsome
It took quite a while for his style to catch on. I'm glad he didn't give up. But he'd told me, back in 1991, that all he wanted then was to work for a week each month, to cover his expenses, and just do nothing the rest of the time, lol. For a guy who didn't want more, he certainly hung in there and eventually got the respect he'd always deserved.
@@Kinesiology411 That’s fantastic you got to meet him. It seems like he was every bit as eccentric off stage as he was on. To hear Chappelle talk about him, he was also a guy who cared deeply about his friends. Such a terrible loss.
@@anadverb5063 I actually spent a week with him when he headlined the club where I worked. He had no friends in Chicago and none of the local comics or staff noticed him at all. Now they all act like they did, lol. Nope.
I tried to set Norm up with my best friend, who had a crush on him. He wasn't interested in her, but we had a great time hanging out. I met and spent time with some of the greats during those years, he and Regan were the most genuinely kind ones. Rich Jeni was wonderful too, we dated for a time. Still can't believe he's gone. And now Norm too. Surreal.
Hahha damn... that would hurt a comedian more to be told they are not funny than being let go from a gig
Yeah but he knows he's funny and was proving it by being funny.
He knew he was being fired for the OJ jokes. He'd been told, several times, to stop them because one of the NBC execs was a close friend of Oj's. He ignored those warnings and that's why he was fired. He knew that. And he knew from the getgo that he was funny.
This was filmed like 3 hours after that phone call.
I can’t not have a smile on my face when this man talks.
Imagine anyone at any point in time telling Norm he is not funny
Norm was such a beautiful spirit.
He just has this perfect deadpan delivery 😂
Please upload every Norm clip you have.
The Donz already did. Go check it out
He is one of the absolute greatest of all time
Legendary Late Night moment, for sure.
Not even Teri Garr could make Dave laugh like that.
He did the Bob Saget roast after he got fired from SNL and he did the most corny and most clean jokes ever to sock it to SNL and to double down and it was pure genius 😂 RIP, Norm, you will always be one of the greatest... or so the Germans would have us believe.
Until pretty late in his career, he never swore onstage. I was surprised when he started to let em rip, lol. He didn't need colorful language, he was just naturally funny.
RIP Norm, but a legend never dies.
The funniest part about the whole story is how Norm gets me in stitches with a story about how he's not funny. Funniest guy ever.
WE LOVED YOU NORM!! YOUR O.J. NEWS WAS spot ON! AND HILARIOUS
Dave and Norm, comedy soul mates.
NBC Executives need there heads examined Norm is funnier than anybody I ever saw with maybe the exception of George Carlin
Norm was the funniest weekend update person to ever do the show. Some people don't get dry humor
I had trouble with him on the weekend update. How he would wait for laughs. I just didn’t get it. Now that I’m older, I looked back at the letterman interviews and Conan interviews. And I watch The clips of weekend update, and I laugh my head off. I see the genius that I was clearly not understanding before.
Nostalgia is a funny thing. I love Norm and everything he does, but weekend update wasn't his best work when you watch it all, not just the highlights.
Some people are republikkkan
Norm could warm up attendees at a funeral and have them laughing.
He made jokes about the Clinton's and OJ Simpson.
And not 1 oetson boycotted like republikkkanns do
God i miss Norm.
Norm was better than guys of "legendary" status on that show. Dude was a comedic genius! RIP
Hands Down... His OJ jokes were relentless and genius.
Always thought Norms humor was unique. Liked it.😂
It's pretty unlucky when you call the funniest guy on the shoe 'unfunny'. We all know ol' olmier liked teasing his friend OJ with norms jokes anyway.
In less than a minute he proves Don so definitively wrong hahaha
Beautiful guy. Great comedian. Funny as hell. Could have used 100 more years of him.
He had a beautiful smile
And then they brought Norm back to host the show, AFTER they fired him for being "Not Funny"....🤫🤫
Who is them? It was only one executive who did that and he did that because he got offended by Norms OJ jokes because he was friends with OJ apparently.
@@AnthonyBlamthony Ok?? Well that's obviously who I'm talking about? You just answered your own question right after asking it. Them, him, it, Whatever.
God I miss him his comical views always came from different angles
A different anarchistic angel 👼🏻
This 45 second clip is funnier than the exhaustive works of Don Ohlmeyer.
He looks like he was still in a state of shock on this show.
Cuz he was fired the day before, if it's the interview I'm thinking of
Imagine firing Norm McDonald because "he's not funny."
Lorne Michaels fired Adam Sandler and Chris Farley. FFS!
They wanted to give Jon Stewart a show.
Norm, Norm, Norm. Come back we need you-Please!
Thank you David Letterman and thank you or Norm McDonald . great humor.
So funny how much he made Dave laugh
Best weekend update anchor ever on SNL.
I love how Norm structures this entire story like it's a stand up bit lol
Don Ohlmeyer definitely doesn't own a dog house.
So honest 😅😅😅😅😅❤❤
Stewie gushing over Death was adorable in a way.
And look how SNL continues to be not funny. Lost so many great cast members this past season. “angelo” was the funniest recent sketch and they didn’t even write it, nor did they bother to keep Aristotle for more than a season. Who cares about “do not destroy” with higgins’ son.
Norm, we miss you! Best weekend update host there will ever be!
All these republikkkanns still crying
Norm was freakin hilarious. So unaffected in his observations, comedy. Loved him and still enjoy clips of him especially when he’s with other comedians🤣😊
RIP Norm. You were the best
Norm is the greatest of all time
I always loved Norm. He's funny as hell😂
“Cause I don’t have nothin to fall back on.” *applause*
Not funny. He’s was the funniest person ever.
This guy is funny even when he soundly sleeps at night
You could be Norms best friend in the world, but don't think for one minute that means he wouldn't publicly roast you. That is exactly what made him so good.
So someone whose name I can’t even remember, fired legend norm McDonald for being not funny? That’s pretty funny, I think Norm would’ve gotten the joke.
So, "murder friendly" boss fired the funniest man.
Imagine firing one the greatest comics the world will ever know.
Imagine boycotting a TV show lol

These two worked so well together.
Imagine telling Norm he isn't funny.
Imagine crying over a TV show or beer can
Insult on top of injury. I smell an ulterior motive. Usually it's a personality conflict.
Thanks for letting us know who the idiots were.
The amount of self confidence he had in his skill as a comedian to openly joke about being fired for "not being funny" 👏 👏
