what if the item has 1300 preowned available and 800 sold? is this a good sell through rate? do i divide those to find out?
It's not a bad sell through rate but it's not 100%. Everyone calculates STR differently but if I was calculating I would do 800/1300 = 61.5% STR. You could still pick it up, but it might sit longer than 90 days and you may have to price lower than your competitors to get it moving. Ultimately, you have to decide what STR you want for your business. You do not have to follow the 100% STR model that we follow.

Usually if that happens, I broaden my search. So instead of searching:

I'll search..

And then,

THX Cayley. A question: About sell thru rates OVER 100, can you explain how this can BE? Love finding such, however I am scratching my head ... HOW can sales be HIGHER than the number listed?
Basically whenever an item sells it comes out of the "listed" section and moves to the "sold" section. So the #s are separate. So 50 active listings has nothing to do with the 60 that have already sold if that makes sense. Hope this helps!

What about when you're planning on selling items in Lots?
Do you try to find out the STR on a certain Lot number? I'm thinking the demand for 3 items in a Lot could be different than the demand involving just one of that item. Has anyone had experience selling items in Lots? How did you decide if it would be worth selling a particular number of that item in a Lot?
I personally hardly ever sell lots so someone else might be of more help than me.

Hi! Love your videos...okay so question...we know Magnolia Pearl is a "bolo"....so I looked up Magnolia Pearl grey sweatpants....theres about 69 showing up...when i hit "sold" it shows 1...but the results are different colors. anyway so that confused me bc I know this is very sought after so Im not sure how to read those numbers. Then I tried Rothys Womens flats 8.5 1200+ results show up and when i filter for sold it has 569 results- so thats over saturated, right? Im thinking the MP might be one of these "exceptions"? thanks so much
Hi! If you see anything MP I'd just get it. Even it's a less desirable style you can still probably quick sell it by selling it for less than everyone else. As for Rothys, it definitely has started to become a saturated market. However, there are still some desirable styles. I'd be more specific with your search to narrow down if it's worth getting or not. For instance, you could include pointed toe, color, etc.
Thanks Cayley. I am thinking maybe the issue I am having is that I am not being specific enough when running comps. I think I have been rather too generic when I am running comps.

When you search, do you also filter for anything other than pre-owned? Such as size, color, etc?
I usually put those things in the search (vs filter) if I need to drill down more. Sometimes I will filter brand if I see the results are including brands I'm not looking for.
I have a question about when dealing with single digit numbers.
I recently scanned a soap bar pack. The current listings was 2. The sold number was 4. Does this product have a good or bad STR since the numbers are so low? I was wondering because most times when scanning products I get larger double digit numbers.
I treat it the same way and would have left it behind. The only time we pickup something less than 100% str is if we know we are going to price lower than our competitors. So that's an option for the soap depending on what you want your margins to look like.
