    Your daughter sounds gifted in math. I have heard great things about AOP Beast Academy, you might want to look at that. I can’t wait for your Moving Beyond the Page and IEW reviews, you are so helpful with curriculum.

    I have twin 2nd graders that are very similar to your daughter, they love school and always looking for more to do. We have really enjoyed Beowulf's grammar but didn't do the LA curriculum because it is our first year homeschooling and I was just so overwhelmed by looking at all the different pieces!

    I’m excited to learn about the LA you are trying out. I’m looking to change for next year as well. My daughter isn’t the type like your 2nd grader who likes school. It’s a struggle each day. Although if she likes the subject she is ok.

    It's so great that you have a highly motivated learner-- doing two lessons a day! Yes!

    Have you looked into Beast Academy online for the rest of your year? You pay monthly and they open up levels 1-5. So, your kid can move at their own pace, that is my favorite part. We switched from the good and the beautiful. We stopped using them for the same reasons as you guys. My daughters love beast academy and I feel like their math skills have grown leaps and bounds since the switch.

    I also switched to Saxon math 5/4 after your suggestion last month because my son Hated the fluff in TGATB…what I’ve learned with him the last 6 months homeschooling is he just likes black and white and straight to the point curriculum; whereas I like the pretty things 😂
    He also really enjoys gather around and campfire curriculum which we are continuing doing this year

    I have a 2nd grader as well. He’s very strong in math. I have him using Beast Academy. You may want to check that out as an option. We use the online version but they have workbooks if you prefer those. I’m excited about your LA video because I need help in that area. Lol I would love a video on your history timeline and how you set that up.

    Once we finish what we are doing we are swapping so much too. I have ideas of what we are doing but I can’t guarantee we will stick to that either because I sort of just bend a mold to meet the needs of each child.

    I also have 2nd grader who is advanced in reading. We are also doing TGTB LA 2 and it feels too easy. I’ve supplemented so much because I also felt it wasn’t strong enough for writing, spelling (turns out better further along), and grammar. Every time I pull out the supplements, he gets excited so I have been tentatively planning on using Guest Hollow’s LA for next year and then start IEW for 4th grade. I will be looking forward to your future reviews.

    I would definitely try Singapore Dimensions Math if you haven't tried it before! My 1st grader loves it! ❤️

    Hi, thanks for sharing. It’s a good idea to let the child take a placement assessment to determine the best level.

    For the D section what works for us is I read the passage aloud and ask the questions orally…it has helped so much!

    We love the bju math, for my 2nd grader. We started with Masterbooks and felt it put us behind, we are finishing up 1st grade and starting on the 2nd grade book within the next few months

    Glad to hear you have a ambitious leaner. Think about using Kate Snow Math Facts that Stick books. Addition Facts That Stick is 6 weeks, Subtraction Facts That Stick is 8 weeks, Multiplication Facts That Stick and Division Facts That Stick are both 10 weeks long.

    Hi! I have a second grader, too. She enjoys school but she isn't a focused student (not that she means to be "unfocused" but that is just how God wired her brain).
    For math: We have been doing the "Plain Not So Plain" math worksheets (free online btw) combined with "First Year in Number" & "Multiplication Facts that Stick". We also have a math game day where everyone does their Easy Peasy Math Lessons (usually 2).
    For English: in our second half, we are starting "PLL" (um, "Primary Language Lessons"). We continue with handwriting and Copy-work.
    For Reading: We have a few things we rotate but basically we focus on Phonics practice & sight word practice. She is a bit behind in reading (as far as "grade level" goes but I am not worried as I know once it clicks then it comes quickly). She is very motivated.

    We love IEW. We did the trial last year when my son was in 3rd grade and he asked for it for his birthday lol. He loves Mr. P we were doing tgtb and IEW so I decided to cut tgtb completely. We’re on week 9 and I saw his writing and vocabulary has grew so much. He also loves fix it. Language arts is his favorite subject now.

  • @abeautifulmess5036

    We also made the decision to stop using TGATB language arts after last month and I just ordered IEW style and structure premium yesterday so praying it is what my 4th grade son needs cause it was $300…but I’ll pay anything if he will just write more then a few sentences😂

    I couldn't figure out the songs of Spanish curriculum. I just donated it to the thrift store.
    Tgtb math works well for my kids. I'm looking forward to switching to Saxon with an online teacher programs one day. I'm not sure when I'll switch over though. Good to know that the multiplication needs more review.

      Oh no! Song school Spanish took me a minute to figure out, and we don’t even listen to the songs half the time🫣 BUT we really love it and I have. A video coming out soon on it

    Is the gather round curriculum something you bought or something you download and print? I’m not familiar with it. Thank you

    • @gatheredandgroundedhomeschool
      @gatheredandgroundedhomeschool  Рік тому

      You can either purchase it printed or digital, then print it yourself. I found a buy/sell group on facebook for gather round so my first unit I bought through there to try it out, but now I purchase the digital copies, much more cost-effective with multiple kids.

    Do you have a curriculum you like for us presidents?

    • @gatheredandgroundedhomeschool
      @gatheredandgroundedhomeschool  Рік тому

      I do not, we aren't that far enough in our history studies where presidents have come into play. Over the years we have done mini units from sites like teacher pay teachers but nothing official.
