Collective Soul was overshadowed by less talented, aggressively promoted, loud, self destructive grunge bands in the 90s. Ed’s lyrics are personable and intelligent. This band was, and is, highly underrated.
This is the Collective Soul that I still rock to! Cruising down the Bush Turnpike on the way to work in my pickup rocking to Collective Soul very loud......I'm good all day.
One of my fave bands!! Great live. They had numerous hits! Shine, Gel, Run, Heavy, December, She Said, Precious Declaration. Go buy Greatest Hits: 7 year Itch! I like this song! They're still rockin & still kick ass. My GF is acquainted with the Rolands!
I was born in 1977 so the 90's were my hay day I guess you could say & I truly think the 90's was also the last era for actual music also. That's also when Much Music also showed actual music videos. I remember rushing home from high school to watch 'The Power Hour' which was a heavy metal show in Much Music & then it changed to 'The Power 30' & then 'Loud'. But I have my younger relatives that are in their teenage years now say to me oh your so lucky to have grown up in the 90's with all that great music, it must have been so cool to have been in that? & when I think back there right,it was a very special time for music. I'm in Canada so not only was bands like Bush,Collective Soul.Live,SilverChair,Green Day,Pearl Jam,SoundGarden,Nirvana,Seven Mary Three, etc big but in Canada at the time we had some really great alternative acts of our own that were really awesome if not better than those bands I mentioned like The Tea Party,I Mother Earth,Sloan,Our Lady Peace,Tragically Hip,Big Sugar,54-40,Econoline Crush,Killjoys,The Gandharvas,Age of Electric,Limblifter,Big Wreck,Thornley,The Watchmen,Cowboy Junkies,Moist,Matthew Good Band,Rusty,Treble Charger,Wide Mouth Mason,Out Of Your Mouth,Sandbox,Slowburn,Glueleg,Salmonblaster,The Inbreds,Pluto,The Headstones,Eric's Trip,Northern Pikes,Pursuit of Happiness,The Grapes Of Wrath,Rush, etc. I know I went on a tirade there with name dropping but those Canadian bands were huge in the 90's here in Canada & some of those bands had some success in the States & Europe etc as well like I Mother Earth,Our Lady Peace,Rush. But for some reason these bands that are huge here in Canada just can't break into the States for some reason? Like The Tragically Hip who are huge here in Canada could never break into the States. They've got some fans on the border cities like Buffalo & Detroit & they played Saturday Night Live in the 90's & I thought that would help their cause but it did nothing for them in the long term in the States. But they are Gods here in Canada still. But Rush seemed to make it big with a lot of countries which is awesome for them. The Guess Who & BTO did well in the States as well.
It's because of the telecommunications act of 1996. It repealed restrictions on media companies that kept labels and companies from merging into monopolies. When this song was made in 1995, we had almost 100 major media companies, now we have 6, all because of that bill. And, now the companies don't have to compete and find "the new sound", so they can just keep making the same crap and following the same formulas and people just buy it because they don't have other options in popular music. There are still good underground bands but you have to dig around to find them because there is no point for them to get signed anymore. You have to have a following already to be signed to a major label now, and why would someone do that if they've already got a following? But then yeah, so radios and popular music is all just regurgitated garbage now because of this bill. It doesn't help that these six lab ls are making all of the popular music too, so think about having the same six groups of staff members making ALL of the music coming out, it's going to sound the same if you're using the same crew for all of it. Also, on a side note, it was passed unanimously by both the republican and democratic parties so the entire political establishment is to blame for this.
Wow thank you for sharing my friend. I bought a ticket and I could not make it last night. Very sad. But thank you for sharing this music. You rock. Much love to all. God bless our children.
The best LIVE version of this song on UA-cam was at the Moondance Jam 7/15/10. IMO it sounds better at a faster tempo. No Matter, its a GREAT Song. Who said southern boys from Georgia cant play good Rock N Roll.....
Original CS was unbelievable. Wil had a fire back then, the last two times I saw them he seemed to be going through the motions. Why is Bam Margera doing percussion? hehe
@ariexmae no, you can't call rock "pop" just because it's popular. reguardless of "pop" meaning "popular" it is still a specific genre. a genre that intentionally uses popular formula for the sake of creating intentionally popular music. not all top 40 is pop. michael jackson is pop, wham was pop, mili vanilli were pop, brit spears and nsync and new kids, all that is pop. it's not about cramming what you hate into a ball. i hate lincoln park, but that doesn't mean they're not a rock band.
Never heard any live ealier live stuff by them in soundboard quality. Sweet! The drums sound so light though. Hit harder, lol! (i know that how the song is)
I'm not sure, but it looks like Joel Kosche. He was Collective Soul's guitar tech for a number of years before replacing Ross Childress as the band's lead guitarist. He also grew up near the same place as the original band members, South Atlanta.
@Haushinka234 Ya... Zeppelin is pop. Pop is not a genre of music where you get to shove everything you hate into a little ball and pretend like everything that YOU like is special and neat. Pop is a type of music that the masses enjoy and since Zeppelin is one of most Popular bands in history .. It is safe to say they are pop. I agree that they are a million times better than todays top 40. But they are the top 40 of their time and you are not unique for liking them.
Sometimes i wonder what is and was Dean Roland’s role in this band besides just being Ed’s brother..he hardly plays his guitar lol..Ross covered this band with so many hooks and licks that they are ot even recognised now adays
If this band can make it on to the rock radio station in new Zealand and I've never heard Miley Cyrus on any radio station, I'm pretty sure that this is way better than her crap, these guys are way better than her
Joel is just as good. Ross is better tho, must be why Ed's wife left him for Ross! Lol But Ed's doin just fine w/ his new wife & kids, Lindsay & Lennon. Anyways...
Collective Soul was overshadowed by less talented, aggressively promoted, loud, self destructive grunge bands in the 90s. Ed’s lyrics are personable and intelligent. This band was, and is, highly underrated.
Well said, pretty lady. CS is my favorite band and I've been lucky to see them live 3 times in 3 different states. They still rock.
@@mattsbaseballcardbreaks5952 They are truly fantastic better than stuff like Foo fighters or Stone Temple Pilots. But this is not a very good song.
Give some examples
Saw them a couple of weeks ago, still rocking.
If there were no words, this song would still be killer. That rhythm section, wow.
This is the Collective Soul that I still rock to! Cruising down the Bush Turnpike on the way to work in my pickup rocking to Collective Soul very loud......I'm good all day.
Oh, when the days were young and beautiful and time and music was extra sweet!
Excellent performance of this tune on this tape.
One of my fave bands!! Great live.
They had numerous hits! Shine, Gel, Run, Heavy, December, She Said, Precious Declaration.
Go buy Greatest Hits: 7 year Itch!
I like this song!
They're still rockin & still kick ass.
My GF is acquainted with the Rolands!
lost 90s jam still rocks
Such awesome guitar tone
Collective Soul prove anyone can start a rock band and play good music :) if they are determined to make it big

Such a different song from all the others on this album
amen
Ed's the talent and Ross was a guitar player!
Back when they were still freaks
Possibly Luis Enrique. His name has been credited in several CS songs for percussion.
This is back when Ed and Co. played real guitars...instead of those toys they play now.
Not sure but based on time period it is probably Luis Enrique a guest musician credited on the album this is from
Original CS was unbelievable. Wil had a fire back then, the last two times I saw them he seemed to be going through the motions. Why is Bam Margera doing percussion? hehe
Awesome fucking song definitely wen cs was at there best(still good though)any ways thanks for posting
he straight up looks like Vedder when he sings!
When was this performance??❤
I bet i could get that PRS from Ross if he hasnt pawned it yet...couple value meals should do it.
You talking shit on social media? Come to Stockbridge and run your mouth.
You don’t need that PRS from Ross bc he can play circles around you.
I think the guy on the congas is their current lead guitarist Joel Kosche.

@ariexmae Zeppelin, AC/DC, Deep Purple are all considered the pioneers of rock!
Bam Margera on symbols
who is next to Shane?
I'm not sure, but it looks like Joel Kosche. He was Collective Soul's guitar tech for a number of years before replacing Ross Childress as the band's lead guitarist. He also grew up near the same place as the original band members, South Atlanta.
that is my dad his name is robert berrios sorry for the 12 years late response I was 4 when you commented
Was Dean wearing a Van Halen shirt?
Yes. Balance tour. Collective Soul opened for them on that tour.

@ariexmae Pop? Those guys are rock, Led Zeppelin didn't sing a song called pop, they sang Rock n' Roll!!!
@ariexmae what the hell are you talking about?
you basically just said "i hate to break it to you, but i'm an idiot."
Doubt it
If this band can make it on to the rock radio station in new Zealand and I've never heard Miley Cyrus on any radio station, I'm pretty sure that this is way better than her crap, these guys are way better than her
