- Another decade is upon us, so let's take a few minutes to reflect on the past 10 years of Forza Horizon. This video starts at Horizon 1 and ends at the current day, covering the history of each game as well as my personal journey with the franchise. This video is for everyone though and I hope everyone gets something out of it! I wanted to do my best to represent the history factually and the community as a whole and not dive too far into personal preferences or opinions.

To me Horizon was never about shaving a few ms off this corner and getting the perfect lap time, its always has been celebration of cars and everything around it
That is what horizon is meant to be....but people want to have legit racing in it and turn it into a clone of forza motorsport but with an open world.
tbh forza was probably better for time attacking than any other game
Imraan Omar I joined in FM5 and FH2. I can’t forget that epic entry off the ferry because you really felt like you were part of this dedicated club that is the festival. I play that game once in a while!
You can enjoy the cars and the world and still want to shave off time and do perfect laps. Thats what is great about Horizon. You can do whatever you want.
It's a game of everything, You go with friends, race or just do crazy things with them, get cars, test them all, and upgrade cars to be the best.
For those who didn't know, Forza Horizon 3 skies, were actually pictures/ time lapses of the real sky. Hence why it was so prefect.
Did they do the same for fh4?

I remember seeing the trailer for FH2, and showing it to my dad over and over, and begged for him to get me an Xbox one with the game. I waited about 2 weeks, and he told me he had to leave to run errands. I didn’t suspect anything at first. After about 30 minutes, I was wondering what was taking so long. I go outside to see my dad holding an Xbox one and FH2. I was the happiest person on earth, and I met 99% of my friends on it. FH2 was the best thing to ever happen to me. Love you turn 10.

The first Horizon was fucking beautiful, this is a game I fell in love with at a young age, back when the Xbox 360 was still booming and shit. The everything about that game, the cars, the driving, the events, and the fucking showcases, I was loving those showcases so much. Aaaaa love this game

The OG Horizon was the best man, its what got me into Forza in the first place, the music, the cars, the story, sound, driving, everything. The concept of racing to get there and grab a free ticket in. Getting up there and becoming well known. Not like the horizon games now where youre thrown right into it and after 10 mins have a huracan. The grind and everything was great
i started at forza horizon 2. one of the best games i've ever played.
I still remember being extremely excited at getting my first Ferrari after a week of playing, I wish I could be that excited about forza again
Personally, I like the removal of grind which gives me more time to tune/mod the vehicle. I ain’t got time to grind 2-3 hours for a Lamborghini any more

Best competitive races too. None of this "start a race and hope someone from the same 12- player server joins" bullshit. Just straight up dedicated race lobbies for anyone from any server who wanted to race THAT track and THAT class.

@@bombardier6033 Uhh, I have in fact played NFS Heat. And drifting is awful xD Tapping the throttle to initiate a drift? Anytime you do that by accident your car suddenly is in a drift and you can't pull it out of it. Been playing racing games, from arcade to sim, for the past 18 years and Need for Speed in the past 10 years has had the most awful physics consistently. They keep "improving" them I suppose, but they're bad regardless. Even NFS Underground 2 or Most Wanted had better physics than current gen NFS games. Heck, even NFS Pro Street does.

Good old memories
After replaying FH1 I started to understand how bad the FH games got. Suddenly, FH4 felt meaningless, repetitive and soulless. This is why I'll stay with horizon 1 rather than get bored in 4

Facts I loved it so much
FH1 Will always be the best, the cutscenes, the characters, the streetraces, and the fact that you had another purpouse in the game that wasnt only having more cars.
I'm probably just biased because FH2 was my first, but I never found FH1 fun. It just doesn't seem as complete and didn't click with me.
I can certainly appreciate what it meant to a lot of people though! Just as FH2 means so much to me. It does kind of suck that there's no real point to the progression in FH4 at the moment.
@@mwmmatt1 FH2 was also very fun to play, maybe the one that i played the most. i think i prefer FH1 cause it was the first one i played, but in FH2 i dont know why, the didnt use cutscenes, or characters, that would make you feel more into the festival

27:51 “they say they said they wanted to turn car lovers into gamers and gamers into car lovers” they definitely did that. Racing games aren’t my type of games. I generally go to open world or fps. I did played a few racing games but they didn’t stick with me so I passed and didn’t pay any attention to the genre. When the forza horizon series released I thought it was just a bland racer that tried to copy need for speed, and boi I’m glad I was wrong. My introduction to Forza was actually really late. From my UA-cam recommendation I saw a video of just forza open world. When I saw this I didn’t know that forza was an open world game. My mind immediately went “wait an open world where you can just drive around in a beautiful place with fast cars” I immediately wanted to play it. But the problem is I don’t have any console accept for pc and my brother warned me about how he got ripped off on microsoft store. Because of that I was quite bumped out. Until one day I logged in to my steam and saw that forza horizon 4 was available on steam. I immediately contacted my friends saying that it was on steam. My mind set when purchasing forza was that I think I’m gonna play a few hours and probably touch it if I want to drive. Safe to say after 112 hours of playing I just can’t stop putting it down. It’s really fun playing with my friend trying to get the treasures in fortune island making idiotic upgrades and generally having a good time. By now forza horizon is my second played game on my library and all I can say as a non racing guy and somewhat of a car guy. Forza horizon opened my eyes to open world racers and I cannot wait for Forza horizon 5 (definitely gonna buy it if the review is good and it releases on steam)

Fh3 is the BEST horizon game of all time, the cars, the scenery, the friends, the memories. I wanna go back to 2017 when we competed with my friend, over who gets the Lykan Hypersport first in Forzathon. Good frickin times

The second the title screen and music popped up for the first horizon I almost cried because it been a very long time since I’ve played that game. I used to come home from a bad school life and boot up the game and the music made me feel safe, took me to another world and so did the next three games. I used to have a crew that had the first two titles but when my friend Josh whom passed due to cancer my crew fell apart and we went our own ways till horizon 4 came out and we slowly started to find each other and we brought the crew back together. 2 out of 12 lived near me and where Josh was buried, I had his sister added on Facebook and asked where his grave was. Me and my 2 mates meet me at the cemetery and FaceTimed everyone else and we all paid our respects to Josh. That’s why forza horizon 1 is so special to me.

Honestly, for Horizon 6 that I would imagine is coming out in 4-5 years, it would be great to have different maps that you can flip between from all the previous locations so you can revisit old locations with whatever crazy tech that would be available for the time.
I highly doubt it will be that long, Forza horizon 3 came out in 2016. So we have had 3 games in 5 years or 4 in 7 years, as Horizon 2 came out in 2014. It's almost more comparable to something like fifa. As they have improved things in smaller increments, over a period of multiple releases.
Rather than long periods of time between games, with one big leap forward. Each game they add some more cars, to the cars that were in the previous game. Improve on the physics of all of the existing cars. Add new features, (like cars in fh5, all now sounding different and new game modes etc) and add the latest new graphical effects, like ray tracing etc to a new map.
It's still a lot of work, but in no way comparable to creating a whole new game from scratch. I would give it no more than 3 years, till the next one comes out.

FH1 wasn’t the best game objectively speaking, but the 12 year old me remembers the character that game had so much more than the successors of that tittle. Something about the in your face EDM music, the orange atmosphere, and flashy events that had never really been explored before really took me away like few other racing games have managed to do. I so badly wanted to be there, bumping with my yellow wristband, flying into the starry partying night with my gt500. What a time to be growing up it was

See I think there are plenty of arguments to be made for Forza Horizon 1 being the best game objectively. It had progression in single player, it had easily the best and most detailed multiplayer, had the best soundtrack and overall atmosphere. Gameplay wise it still reigns supreme.
@@TheJayden3977 Personally, I think that FH2 had a better environment soundtrack and multiplayer, because whenever I played it, it was buggy, and I'm talkin' beta levels of buggy. The soundtrack just wasn't really to my taste tbh. Ure right about the singleplayer tho, and atmosphere yeah, it had ACTUAL character and cutscenes! But credit where credit is due, the newer FH games look STUNNING.

FH2 public multiplayer was a huge downgrade in my opinion. With Online Road Trips you couldn’t pick car class, could only choose 1 of 3 road trips with 4 events which forced you to use one car for all 4 and infected and king always occurred off road. In FH1 you could literally search any keyword lobby and join, or you could create your own public lobby and select event, car class, weather, difficult etc. You could also find a pre made lobby with a random class generator and race, but you could still pick your car for that individual event before hand. Lobbies were just a much better system than adventure modes in my opinion. Yeah it could be buggy but honestly it made it up in the sheer freedom it had. If FH2 had the same system it’s multiplayer would be much better than 1 in my opinion but it just restricted too much freedom.
I think we will have to agree to disagree about the soundtrack, only because I could listen to every song on that game and enjoy it. Couldn’t with FH2.
@@TheJayden3977 True, I personally prefer H2 because it is consistently a decent quality, whereas H1's multiplayer gameplay was very buggy at times and is near unplayable now ,for me at least. Tuning is available and the diff actually does something, lol

When we got our xbox 360 for Christmas, I was in need of a new racing game, I was kind of getting sick of playing need for speed (I was a need for speed boy). I was looking and found this exclude called "Forza Horizon", I begged my mum to buy it, and i'm so glad I did. I constantly played it, whenever I could. I was too young to actually acknowledge how great it was, but that's what made it so memorable, instead of focusing on the map and the tiny things, I focused on the big things, the cars, the races, everything else that brought life to the game. So I played this for ages, unaware that there was horizon 2 that was close to release, I thought that it was just that one single game, not a series. Then in 2016, I saw it, Horizon 3, I really wanted this game, but I didn't have the computing power, or an xbox one to play it on, so I got back into nfs for a bit. Then in 2018 I played Forza horizon 4 at my friends house, I fell in love, great game from the moment I held the controller. Now comes 2019, I had finally got my new computer and was very fond and familiar with the forza series, and I had a hard decision to make, buy FH3 or FH4. I contemplated for a long time, but I ended up buying FH3. I bought it for a number of reasons, a few reasons include that it was set in Australia (where I live) and the game almost was "calling me", it was like "I need you".
To this day I still play FH3, great game. But I can't forget Forza Horizon 1, I made so many good memories with that game, and booting that game back up again late last year brought back mad nostalgia, I now play forza horizon 1 when i visit my grandparents, as that's where our xbox 360 is now.
Forza horizon 3 is a great game, but there's just something about forza horizon 1 that can't be replicated, something that makes it different, and makes it stand out from the rest.
FH3 is going to be delisted soon and its on sale now. I got the ultimate edition along with the expansion packs for 30 bucks. I also snagged the crew 2 gold edition for 9 bucks. Two pretty good games to hold me over until FH4 goes on sale. Im glad I got FH3 when I did though because once its delisted that's it I wouldn't be able to play it unless I bought an Xbox. I already have that issue with a few Xbox one games that I bought when the Xbox first came out. I have FH2, F&F, GTA V, ASSASSINS CREED BLACK FLAG AND UNITY, and RIPTIDE GP... Cant play any of them because it was before the Xbox windows 10 compatibility. I've bought riptide three different times same with GTA V and ive bought black flag twice. It sucks but it is what it is. Thankfully now with Xbox windows compatibility its more likely ill have a device to play the games on.

I live in Australia and every time I boot up FH3 I receive the blissful feeling of the intro music playing with the beautiful showcase of landscape and cars. Driving past the 12 apostles or in the jungle in slight rain always gives me goosebumps. And also being introduced to Horizon from FH3 it will always hold a special place in my heart.

FH3 opening scene playing Constellations was amazing. Makes me tear up everytime. To this day, it was compulsory for me to own a Centenario in 4 and 5.

That Horizon 3 Trailer still gives me chills after almost 4 years from when i first saw at E3. Thats got to be like one of the Top 10 Game Trailers of the past decade. And honestly, i hope i can say the same thing for Horizon 5's reveal trailer.

FH1 will probably always be my favourite, mainly for nostalgia, but also because of the story, the cutscenes and all the minigames (please bring back cat and mouse)
infected on horizon 1 was so much fun, (especially bunker glitch) and I feel like there needs to be a way to join a lobby of people for the soul purpose of playing those minigames again because in horizon life no one joins them (also playground adventure is not what i want as its all team games and you don't get to pick which game you play)
I think horizon 5 should be in Japan as it would give an opportunity for great roads, amazing scenery and great areas for minigames, which is another thing horizon 4 lacks
I love all the horizon games but if they could take the best parts of each game and put it into one then that would literally be the greatest racing game of all time without question

Eh, not really. You actually have tons of people asking for the option to turn off traffic in singleplayer. The ghosting in the drift zones and speed zones are good but holy hell, trying to three star a speed trap or a Danger Sign? Traffic kind of got annoying.
I'd kill to have no-traffic lobbies. As well as get private lobbies back. That was such an easy way to find groups of players who all wanted to do the same thing.
Isn't traffic supposed to be part of the fun? Without it, it feels easy but lifeless at the same time.

Fun fact... Until last week... The last Forza game I played was Forza Motorsport 4, with the Top Gear tie-in. I bought the collectors edition with the art book and steel case. I no longer have a 360, but I still have that game. It was one of the few that I pre-ordered, and I played the crap out of it until my 360 died a couple years later. By then, the Xbox One and PS4 were coming out and I lost track of the franchise because I transitioned back to PC gaming. I still haven't gone back to consoles, except for the Switch. Then I saw FH4 on the Steam sale and decided to buy it. Now I remember what I loved so much about Forza in general. It was well worth the money and I am looking forward to FH5 in a big way. I honestly can't wait to jump in at the beginning with the rest of the community instead of at the twilight. Thanks for sharing this trip down Nostalgia Lane. I'm tempted to pick up FH3 to give it a go.

I'm so glad I found this video. It helped me remember all those great moments I had as a much younger kid to a massive teenager with a massive heart for this series. I played fm4 and did well for being young. If I look at myself now I can tell I am better now but nothing will replace that energetic racer that I once was. I do have my issues with this series of games but I still love it to bits. If I'm not showing that I am a long time fan of this series idk any other way of how to do so.

i have to agree and disagree about "the roads in FH3 being not that great." I can agree in regards of the overall scenery of it, but i can disagree with that statement. because out of all the horizon series, i enjoyed the circuit tracks on FH3 the most. had some of the best/most memorable races on that game. the circuit courses were designed great from a racing stand point. Had good amount of room for side by side racing and a few technical areas where the inside line would prevail. FH4's roads are almost all technical. Technical is good, but every technical track needs a passing zone at least. and a tighter course has led to more beating and banging between players.
Things i'm hoping to see in the next Horizon game, a multi level car parking lot. FH3's parking lot was a well known meeting place for drifters. basically think of the movie tokyo drift. I think that would be an amazing meeting place to have on a map, and it was great to have a spot on the map that you wouldn't be bothered by traffic during drift tandems. And i little more attention to the drags. like the ability to false start would be a great addition. since reaction times is a big portion of drag racing.
I doubt we played the same game then, there were very few road tracks that were actually decent and most of them were in the city (save for that 8-figure loop in the desert and that one track that has you cross over the highway), most of the tracks had were mainly made of straights with slight bends every once in a while, resulting in a stupid power build meta.
yet again, i can agree and disagree. in fh3 there was an advantage of having high horsepower on a good portion of the tracks. Byron Bay circuit tracks however, with the exception of the goliath track, it was best to have a car that had high handling over horsepower. but my original point i was making, was that there was room for side by side racing. Most of the time, any side by side racing in fh4, results in someone being pushed off the road.

Hey man, just now saw this video in June of 2021. But, Forza Horizon 1 was my first ever Horizon game, and this brought back so many memories. I even got Forza Horizon 1 on launch, so seeing this franchise grow what it is today is amazing to me. A genuine thank you for making this video, because it brought me back.
This is such a great video. I've just now been introduced to the Froza franchise with Forza Horizon 5 and it was amazing to see all the old maps that i never explored and what has changed over the years. I know im very late to this video but I have to say, this is one of the best I ever watched. Thank you so much for making these fantastic videos, absoultely amazing.
This is my story, I went to a very good friends house and never saw this game he was playing I asked what it was and he said forza horizon, just the name got my attention and he did a barrel roll which sold me on it, so I got it for my 10th birthday and I was saying this isn't happening. I started playing the hell out of fh1 and hot glued the dodge and aventador are still my favorite cars in real life because of it
Fh2: this is the most memorable game that glued me to another car the lexus lfa that thing is the best sounding and was my most reliable until I bought the veneno than that car I loved throughout my life and still do, somehow that car just makes my mind click and says drive that now I just loved that game over all.
Fh3: I never got to play it at all I saw the trailer I really wanted to play it but due to my family's money problems I wasn't able to get it.
Fh4: this is what truly got me back into cars, I was over with cars at the time than I was curious and saw there was a trailer for the new forza game I instantaneously clicked on that to see how the game looked, than I saw that senna I was saying to myself I have never ever in my life seen that car than I heard the engine the pops and flames on it I had to get it. I got the xbox one s forza edition"I also had to upgrade consoles at the time" so I started to play it and I was getting sceptical about it until I saw that same senna. the intro was so good it glued me to the screen and I was very rusty but I got through it than that rallying part of it that's what got me back into the forza franchise and back into being a car enthusiast.
Now: currently I am a drifter and a expert tuner my account is Xformerking04 if you want to look up my tunes some might be old but I do suggest you try them. I have come a very long way from the beginning a quote from me "everyday strive to become better even though you cannot try become the person you always wanted to be.
I got FH3 as my first game when I got my first Xbox a couple of years ago and I remember I was so bad at the game I had to turn every thing to easy. Slowly I was able to work my way up and take off more assists and raise the difficulty. That has been probably the most rewarding experience I've had in any video game and the Forza series is one of the biggest reasons that I love cars now. I've now played all the Forza horizon games and I can't wait to see whhat FH5 brings!
Absoultely amazing video. Looking back at the three previous games from today, and even while playing looking at Horizon 4 at the "soon to be next old entry", really makes one think of the past memories with the games, and its awesome to hear what your story on the franchise was. And I cant wait for the video about the early days of Horizon 5, lets hope they are like the early days of Horizon 4 aswell.

that main menu on the first Forza just hits different in my memories, i could sit there for hours just listening to the music and looking at the cars, this is one thing i will never forget as my first racing game.

Got Horizon 4 about a week ago had the weekend off and I can gladly say that in that weekend and up to now I have fallen into this magical and amazing racing car loving experience amazing video I’m glad to have more context and knowledge of how it all started and I am now excited to see what there is to come 🙌🏽

forza horizon 1 was the first game i really felt love for, got it for my 7th birthday and have been playing that till my xbox 360 broke a year ago. just got forza horizon 4 tho and i feel the exact same about this game.
That horizon 1 intro brought me back to when i was about 11 and my older brothers friend brought it over for our 360 and i played it non stop for 6 hours, i was hooked, i begged and begged my dad to get us our own copy. That christmas forza horizon was the highlight of my day. you couldnt pull me away from the tv, now im in the navy and whenever i have freetime and im in my barracks room i play FH4 and just relax. Its crazy how quickly time flies by and how much we forget.
While I started with buying Horizon 1 & 2 first time round on release and still love them to this day, life sometimes gets in the way and I've never got around to getting 3 or 4. I was content in watching all the videos on YT from 100s of players posting their clips and marvelling on how far this incredible series has got to and the picture perfect visuals now on current and now next gen hardware. I might drop back in after all these years for Horizon 5 this Fall though. This was a great video and tribute to four brilliant racing games that's become King of the racers.

FH1 had bosses in each race type, and that was my favorite element of its gameplay. It's sad it never came back in any of the later games.

The one thing I loved doing on the first Horizon was remake a car from the show Roadkill on the MotorTrend Channel. One of the guys, Mike Finnegan has a 55 Chevy Bel Air called Blasphemi that has over 1,000hp and uses it for daily driving and drag racing. After falling in love with looks of that car, I recreated an in-game version of it on the 57 Bel Air. It wasn't exactly the same since the car models are different, but it sure was fun building it and drag racing against people. Ever since then, I've recreated Blashpemi in every Horizon game. Now in FH4 with all the tuning, sharing scheme designs, as well as the addition of the Hoonigan's 55 Bel Air, I'm able to recreate Blasphemi exactly to what it looks like today, and I don't ever get tired of ripping some wheelie's and going fast down the drag strip with it.
They certainly made me a gamer into a car lover!! Wow that describes my Horizon journey
