Hi all! So, this project was something new for me and a real labor of love that took the past few months to complete. Although it does cover some of the more negative aspects of Horizon 4, I hope it doesn't come off as too harsh. I absolutely adore this game and this review is hopefully a good testament to that. Also - because it did take months to finish, there are some small script inconsistencies (i.e. things I didn't know about H5 that I do know now) as well as some audio differences as it was recorded over a few days. Either way, I hope that doesn't distract from the video as a whole. Thanks everyone ❤
@@LexVanguard2004 havent played forzas since horizon 2 was the latest but othet than open world doesnt motorsport have way more? I remember being super dissapointed with h2 customization in comparison to motorsport 5 and 6.
As much as I don’t like Forza Horizon 4’s poorly implemented seasons and car sounds, the formers concept itself sounds amazing. And I had fun playing this game nonetheless.
The customization was… decent The car list, environment, physics, visuals are definitely the highlights of the game but still the game overall is the weakest in the series imo
this was an epic game now with fh5 around the corner we have to say goodbye. I will never forget fh4 it was my first horizon game and I have a lot of good memories of it.
Now that FH5 is out, I can confidently say this: FH4 intro sequence > FH5 intro sequence. I will never forget the introduction to each season and racing to the finish line in the Senna.
Is the game good? Yes. Was it enjoyable? Definitely yes! I have some good moments with this game and really enjoyed it but at the same time I just felt that it was the weakest in the series And it just got really boring and missed what really made the Horizon series or even the Motorsport series It is a solid game for sure and will be missed but I just can't wait to play FH5 knowing that it's a massive improvement over FH4
They need to think about adding driffting avatars that would be a small change but a big upgrade to gameplay. How many games have we seen with ai characters just driting arounding in tandem or solo.
@J Funny enough when 2 first came out I was against it for some reason but now that I was able to put more time into it it's a spectacular game really! The visuals, physics, environment, cars, music, gameplay really shows that 2 really continued the Horizon saga and I really enjoyed 3 because of the map, the scenery, the views my God and of course it still has the Horizon vibe where there are festivals and you can even take charge too Hot Wheels DLC has to be the best DLC expansion pack ever made yes I do agree that the progression was a bit lost in 3 but it was just nonexistent in 4 and there wasn't really any kind of connection Looking at the early gameplays of 5 I'm just so excited and I just can't wait to play the game!
Whether it was good or bad, the fact they kept it alive for so long is what really kept me coming back. Every week there was something new to obtain. The fact they were able to do that AND spend more time on the next Horizon is what I believe really counts
I found that impressive too. Even when I started getting bored of FH4 there was almost always something new to play with whenever I decided to log on. I'm also pleasantly surprised with Mexico. I was admittedly one of the "I want Japan!" types. Other than issues with the drivatar difficulty and online connection at times, I see plenty of life in FH5
@@Majin_Fuu Mexico makes the most sense for them in a lot of ways. It's basically the opposite of flat ol' England. However, Japan was considered for both FH4 and FH5. So the likelihood of it being the next one is quite high for many reasons. One being their releasing a whole new game engine for FH6 and what better way to show off your shiny new graphics than with the place everyone has been begging for. Not only that, but leaked DLC for FH5 shows one of the DLC's is going to be set in a city. And it's common knowledge DLC for Horizon games are a test bed for the next game to come. Lastly, in the game files for FH5 is the Ferrari J50 which was made specifically for Japan. So there's a lot of signs showing that your wish might come true sooner than later
@@missedmurphy that's awesome news. Horizon has always been my "chill when not sim racing" kind of game so I'm not likely to complain about much. I see the community yearning for Japan is strong enough so I imagine it's only a matter of time.
One thing about the story in the Horizon franchise I want to talk about, is that in Horizon 1 and 2 you as the player were participants in the festival, while from Horizon 3 onwards you are the one who runs and controls it. My problem with this is that the story motivation in 1 and 2 was to start as a nobody and eventually become the best driver at the festival, but now you already are a famous driver. Looking back I really missed that part of the Horizon games, the motivation to wanting to be the best, the rival characters who teased you along the way, why care about that when I run the whole thing? To me it feels like that meme of Obama giving a medal to himself lmao. Horizon 1 did story the best, the characters are simple, but believable, and that introductory race in Horizon 1 is just so good; barely making it in to the festival, and meeting the current Horizon champion on the way there! I really resonated with what you said about Horizon 1's characters being so much more memorable then what we have now and I hope we can at least see more like them in Horizon 5. This was kinda rambly, but I just got really excited seeing someone actually bringing up the non-existent story in Horizon 4 and why its a shame compared to what we got in previous titles.
Horizon 4 does this weird blend of starting you out as this nobody and then as you progress you get all the features from Horizon 3. And it doesn't work. At least Horizon 3 was like "You're the boss" and ran with it, with the festival upgrading, the discounting cars, the blueprint feature etc. But because they were all successful features, they couldn't omit them from Horizon 4 even if it was counter-intuitive to the "story" they were trying to tell.
Competition isnt inclusion. This is the narrative equivalent of giving everyone participation medals. Its not that they dont expect you to fail races (Though that usually doesnt come with any penalty towards completion anyway, I actually dont know what happens when you dont come in first on race nodes) But its that the idea that the premise of the game is to be aggressive and compete is either "toxic" or not inclusive enough. You can tell by how they arranged even competitive multiplayer. They dont let you race free for all. No, everyone is in a team, And the weakest link leads the charge. And basically gets the same ranking and rate as the best. Post Horizon 2 these have been the least competitive games ive ever played. In fact. Hotwheels is better for a challenge and competition than Horizon.
@@117johnpar You can race free for all now. Have been able to for 2 years now, actually. See 31:26, third card. This is also in the competitive section. You obviously haven't played for a long while. I can understand their wish to keep toxicity out of the community, though. They went about it in a silly way, but I would rather not have sweaty try-hards yelling at me for passing them every time I win an online race. It should be a competition, but a friendly one. People lose, and some people win. But everyone learns from the mistakes they made, and improves their skills over time. And, if you're with friends, then the trash-talking should be flowing forth as well. But not with strangers.
Possible a unpopular Opinion, but i found the whole concept of the Horizon Series, if it comes down to story per se, pretty Boring to begin with. I mean it, all the things you point ot as good aspect of the first 2 games, because you start as a nobody didn't have any more impact to me than what they did afterwards, because i found neither the story or characters memorable to begin with. Because the whole Premise of a Musical Festival as a plot device is to begin with absolutely lacking, it's an amazing concept if it comes down to the "Gameplay" aspect and to explain why you can openly race, and it works perfectly for the Series, because i feel like i've to point out, not every Game is meant to be or even should be a story Game, there are also Gameplay-Games, and thanks to lack of interesting story you focus more on the gameplay itself. That's why the "critique" about a Story in a Gameseries like Horizon is kinda weird for me. Than again i find it "pretty" hard to pull of interesting Racing-Stories to begin with. Streetracers have a potential due all the Gangster and Illegal "Racing" background which can bring up some interesting topics, but even on that it's hard to pull it off in a longterm, which is why it doesn't surprise me that F&F gets more and more to an Action-Movie than like very first few movies which was focus mostly on cars and racing.
If there's one thing this game needs to lose, it's getting a gold trophy just for finishing an event. They''re just meaningless participation trophies.
Dude i can't imagine how long it took you to make this video. you went so in depth and you probably wrote a 100 page paper for this to read off of. Props to you!
Forza horizon 1 was the first game to get me into car culture and enjoying cars as a whole, where I met a large amount of friends both irl, and online. I hold it dearly to my heart
something that would be cool to add for leaderboards, is for speed traps, zones danger signs etc. they could add a filter to see leaderboards for car classes like A class, s1 and such. it would give lesser skilled players an easier way to learn to drive and reward them for beating other players the same as if they were in X class. even add a filter for car types like offroad monsters, track racing etc.
This game was amazing. It does however has its problems. The forced seasons (mainly winter), the lackluster car sounds and the weird mess of a campaign were all turn offs. Other than that stuff it was a ton of fun. FH5 looks like its going to blow it out the water though. Driving on the wrong side of the road also bothered me as an American. FH5 fixes all of these issues and I think it will be the best Forza of all time. We shall see though
@@georgfranko Winter was a lot of fun no doubt, and really changed the map but having an entire week of it got a little annoying. Definitely looking forward to having some parts snowy and some not in the the Horizon 5 though!
Having only ever played FH3 and FH4, I do like 3 more, but FH4 is a very good game. It brought in so many new features that made me stick to the game longer than I thought I would. Sure, the UK felt a bit meh, but it was still fun nonetheless.
ive played all 4 (and will be playing fh5) horizon games and in my opinion the best map is definitely fh3 and the best gameplay overall for me is fh2, fh2 has great physics, decent map, good car sounds, good graphics, and fh3 has a superb map, very good variable car list, decent physics, good dlcs, good car sounds, and so much more, but fh4 has a decent map, okay physics, and a really good car list (as of now i mean), but then it has pretty bad sounds which makes the game less fun for me
This is the closure I need to hear before waving goodbye to this game. The second Horizon series I played that managed to be the one to remember for setting the standards to the world. This sets the stage for Horizon 5 and I cannot wait to see everyone there. Thanks Hoki Hoshi for this video.
Forza horizon 4 was hated for so long, but the good old "it's good now that the new game is out" is definitely hitting, and for good reason, it was a great game, I loved it with my friends, but in all honesty the best part, was the menu music, I LOVE the conflicting emotions of it, it's just so good, and something about that last game I played on it, just felt off, it wasn't the average fun, it was slow cruising, taking in the scenery, knowing what's soon to come, the garunteed end of its existence as the new games come out, and I'm not ready for it, it's sad to see it go, but everything has a due date, FH4 just sadly hit its due date when many weren't ready, thank you FH4 you did us well.
Im 26 and Forza Horizon 4 was my intro to the series after getting my new Xbox One S about a month ago after losing my 360 years ago "thank you to my nephew who's 8" 😂 big car fan and lover of NFS! I love it because of the wide open world and the massive selection of cars (old & new) the fact that I can still play part of it offline and I can just enjoy driving around freely, especially without the cops you would normally get with NFS games also since this series doesn't use nitro like other games it's all skill instead of more speed ☺️
yeah. FH4 will always be special for me. Helped me cope with depression and introduced me to car culture. It also nailed the uk vibe with the classy Edinburgh to the calm village of Ambelside.
I played FH3 and didn't know much about cars, but when I got FH4 that all changed. It gave me all of the knowledge I have, but it's also let me appreciate FH3 more
I played Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005) up until a two years ago. Then I tried out FH4. It was halarious to see how incredible the graphics were, sounds and controls. The game is meant to just be played when you really feel it. Maybe in the background of your favorite music. That's when i've found the best times. Never forced.
Having only played this game and Horizon 1 (waaaay after it's life cycle), this was the first Forza game i properly sunk my teeth into, and for that it'll always hold a special place in my heart
It's kind of crazy how long this game has been around and how strong it and the community is. I remember freshman year of highschool, being in class eagerly waiting for the streams to start and the awesome new content, getting home and spending all night cruising around. I'm a senior now, and it feels so surreal that my school career is coming to a close. The hundreds of hours I've accumulated in Horizon are honestly some of the best memories I have from any game, and I love that this will always be a sort of time capsule to reflect on and remember my highschool years. This video was a great sendoff, and I'm glad this channel and the community with it share my love for the game almost word for word. It may sound cheesy, but I'll always be grateful for the game that really brought me into the world of cars and made me fall in love with almost every aspect of them
You've outdone yourself again Hoki. This is the only review FH4 ever needs. Your humble voice is so relaxing that this will be my wind down video to bed, on repeat . Plz do more long scripted videos and plz mirror your twitch streams here as a lot of us dont have twitch on TV.
I bought this game late into its lifecycle and boy did I enjoy my short time with it. It got me into sim racing shortly after I bought a Logitech wheel. I simply desired a better racing experience. However, with the launch of Forza Horizon 5 rapidly approaching, I'm considering getting back in. I just have to make sure that there is enough of an experience there that's not racing for it to be worth my time (unless they've magically solved the racing conundrum).
Thank you to Hoki Hoshi for teaching me to tune my own cars instead of relying on downloading tunes from other people. And as for FH4, this game will always hold a special place in my heart as the first Forza game I ever played.
The blt analogy was actually really good. This was my first title that I have actually gotten into and have sunk 100s of hours into the game and I really enjoyed it. I completely forgot to even think that it needed a story but I don’t personally think that I needed it so much. Hopefully horizon 5 has a great story and I really look forward to play it 😁
Regardless of what everyone says about this game, I loved it. Could literally just sit doing the same thing over and over and never really got bored of it.
It was a good game, we just had it for too long. Yes, the seasons would have gotten old after the normal 2 years but the hype would've built up if that nasty virus hadn't pushed FH5 back a full on year.
"I've seen so so many people fall into the trap of buying the fastest car they can right away, modifying it to be even faster and then complaining the handling in the game because they keep spinning out and can't take corners." As someone who just started playing Horizon 4 this was exactly me lol. I bought a Honda NSX 92 as soon as I could. Slapped on all the mods I could think of only to realize the car drove like crap. Luckily I came across your other videos for tuning and now the car handles like a dream! So far the game has been fun and educational for anyone who has even the slightest interest in cars! Thanks for guiding tuning scrubs like me!
"Forza Horizon 4 is like a BLT Sandwich without (story) Tomatoes." I guess this is why I love this game so much and see it as an all time favorite, I HATE TOMATOES
About the “license system” you thought about with fast cars, I once thought the same kind of thing, what if in order to use the faster cars online, you had to prove you could drive it without spinning/losing control, like a sort of test drive? Also that idea of FRR being a carefree way to navigate with players from one event to the next without losing positions is a really nice idea. That really should have been the point from the start.
the liscence system would be kinda dumb, imagine saving up alot of money for a shiny new car and then being told you cant have it cuz u dont know how to drive it, theres no way to learn to drive it without buying it
@Blurry There's a few other games that have license systems and that's generally not how it works, in games like TDU and Gran Turismo you can still buy whatever car you want. it's just that the higher class races/championships won't show up until you do the higher class license tests. That's how I would imagine it in Forza. Still having full open world freedom but having to pass some basic driving tests or like hit a certain time on Rivals before you're able to enter S1 and S2 online racing for example.
You're absolutely right about the online classes in online adventure being too high. I much preferred Horizon 3's method of voting on the next round and C and even D class being thrown in the mix too. For me the sweet spot is B and A class.
I agree that trying to force casual online racing is a bad decision..and unfortunately that’s exactly what they did for horizon 5. Online ranked mode is completely gone now, nonexistent. I understand that the ranking system in horizon 4 was broken, As a high ranked player, I would sometimes place 1st and literally lose rank because I was matched up against really low level players. It’s a real shame that instead of fixing the ranked system, they just removed it all together. That was where I spent most of my time in horizon 4
But what if they are working on it but they won’t have it ready on launch date. Maybe we get ranked in FH5 later or is it confirmed that there won't be ranked?
I know I'm late tho I'm playing Fh4 now through steam and I see so many online players in my lobby it's so fun to drive with them and horn just love that there are still so many players playing Fh4!!
Buying Forza Horizon 4 roughly one year after launch with all DLCs on sale was certainly the best decision I made playing 1~2 hours every week gave me 80+% festival playlist and gave me all the cars I ever wanted and fun for many many months I even started finally driving manually in a game in the first time ever and manually tuning cars
I started playing forza horizon 1 and fell in love with it 8 years ago, deep down I know that this series will become the best racing series ever, I loved the concept, I loved the system, I loved the way it’s just pure fun without any limitations whatsoever. And I am glad that play ground just keeps making this series better and better. It may not be the most realistic racing game, but it’s damn near perfect as a racing game in my opinion.
@@lucasvonheiz1310 The previous 3 just had a much better atmosphere imo. Better maps and much better car sounds. For example the M4 has the exact same sound file as the Nissan GTR lol. Or the Huayra sounds the same as the Zonda etc..
@Dev King This may be right if you only focus on multiplayer however for people that like Singleplayer FH1 had an actual progression system and a believable and not too short story. The car and music selection was really good for it's time too. Also the map is really well structured with good hight differences und streets that go up and down for a long time. In conclusion I think a remastered FH1 with added cars and improved Multiplayer would sell like hot cakes it's definitely one of the best if not the best of the horizon series.
@@lFrontal weakest is wrong. Fh1 is the 1st, but way too small Map and not that good, and still Fh2 empty map but beautiful sounds and an unbeatable atmosphère. Fh3 is too "murrican" spirit. Too much straights and not enaugh twisty things. ( Snow dlc has rectified this at least). Fh4 is the most eclectic. Sounds are awefull and it's not shiny enaugh to be enjoyed. But map is more than decent and you can enjoy it. After all, we all have our comparison point. To me fh is supposed to be the new tdu with good physics, but it fails. I mean we have to wait 5 opus and a confirmed return of tdu to see in game working convertibles? Joke. Don't know about fh5 but fh4 is gardens for houses etc etc etc. And i can't accept that pg with Microsoft help can't do better than tdu when many players ask for features that exist since 2012. Nevermind. I'll see fh5 with the gamepass and tdusc when it came out (even if i'm more than scared of physic)
52:09 This is actually something that Burnout paradise did with their expansion with Big Surf Island its actually a island off of the side of the main map and the way to get there is take a bridge with big jumps implying the large verticality that the island had
with horizon 5 coming out in 3 days, this video helped me realize all the effort it took playground to keep us satisfied with the game while working in horizon 5 which is super promising. i’m not gonna lie i teared up a hit at the end thinking of all the memories i have of this game, i remember not having the money to buy it at launch so my best friend bought it for me because we shared the same passion for cars and forza since motorsport 5. racing through the highways with all kinds of cars, finally getting the supra and the evo. final words: Forza Horizon 4 was the most memorable game in a while coming second to my most memorable game GTA 5 story.
I've bought an xbox one x and a 4k tv in the end of 2018 just because of this game and it was one of the best investments in my life. I've spent hundreds of hours playing this game and still to this day I keep coming back to casually drift around the map and drag race with strangers on the highway. Can't wait to lose myself in FH5. It seems like it will be one of the best racing games ever.
Thanks for the great content. Just recently got horizon 4 and have been fiddling with my 97 skyline gtr trying to help my cornering. Your vids helped a lot but I eventually went back into the upgrade menu and realized I had fitted the drag tires 😂 after fixing that the car performed much more like I had seen from your content lol
Free roam rush is a great party style gametype and I do hope they keep it for FH5. It just has no place in ranked adventure, even for dirt or CC. I do hope it remains on the social side of matchmaking, though.
I completely disagreed with that point. For me story is just an annoyance in racing games. I just want to race :) Even more so when the cutscenes are not skipable like in NFS
"car feels like an extension of yourself" i didn't know there was such a good way to put something when im playin something like nfs heat, or the crew, it feels terrible, like im playing an arcade when im playing fh4 or any forza game in general, i can FEEL the car very well put fr
I’m so glad that they held back on using Japan as the next location. Mostly because I want the developers to take full advantage of the new generation of consoles and pc without being held back of porting it to Xbox one. They can go all out and make the game amazing.
Yeah, I remembered looking at all of the UA-cam videos, i was so hyped to play Forza Horizon 4, and man...it was the best experience ever, I just begin to play last November 2020 Forza Horizon 4 and it was epic, just what I expected, now that the new horizon is on my homeland, I cannot wait to try it, and hope that this new Forza will have maybe not the same lifetime, but the same support as the 4th...
in 2018 I hadn't been a gamer for years but I bought an xbox one s just to be able to play forza horizon 4. Now I'm much more into gaming but don't have my xbox anymore. Thinking about picking up an xbox series to be able to play horizon 5.
Comparing FH4 to a mullet surprisingly accuurate and I applaud you for the comparison... The big issue I personally had with FH4 is the lack of structure to the campaign, and the fact you could get through nearly every race with literally 1 car, of pretty much any class (I seem to recall that the only races that actually had restrictions were certain cross country events, and the restriction would be extreme offroaders which are among my personal least favourite types of vehicle in the game). I would personally love it if FH5 went back to a system closer to FH3, where for any given race you can do both exibition and championship. Exebition allows you to use whatever you want, while championships lock you to specific types and classes of cars, which forces you to try more types and eras ofcars The map for me is kind of a mixed bag, in the sense that yes there are alot of hilly and curvy roads, and yes the cenery is beautiful, but to me the game kind of lacks visual variation (the scenery is always more or less one colour, which the big varience being the season, rather than where you are in the map). The map also doesn`t really have any proporly open roads where you can truly stretch the legs of the more powerfull cars. As for the soundtrack, it`s not really my cup of tea... I`m personally a metal head, and also enjoy some really base heavy electronic music, and FH4 does nothing to scratch my metal itch, and doesn`t really satisfy my hunger for base that well either... I would generally listen to timeless FM (particularly in winter, it somehow seemed more fitting), and avoid Horizon Pulse because if I recall correctly it was just pop music, and I don`t like pop... I eventually would turn off the radio entirely and just listen to spotify Tbe car sounds is something I didn`t notice or really pay attention to for the first year or so (it sounded fine to my ears), but after seeing alot of comments and videos criticizing the sounds for not sounding vary good or loads of cars sharing sounds, I eventually acquired and played every previous Horizon game (FH4 was my entry point into the series when I bought an XBOX with the game bundled in for the christmas after the game`s release), and indeed the sounds are really underwhelming, particularly compared to FH2, but even FH3 sounds amazing in comparison) The post launch support was something I never gave much thought to beyond the festival playlist, sinse I hate interacting online with strangers ingame, and generally don`t even enjoy playong with friends that much (outside of just cruising or doing private races), so I ignored most the added game modes, though looking back, the support the game recieved was nothing short of impressive... As for the expansions: fortune Island was really fun and has some really cool roads, particularly needle climb and the dirt roads at the top of the map, but the map is honestly too small and once you`ve done all the events you will litterally omly return for needle climb and the previously mentioned rally roads at the top of the map As for Lego Champions: I didm`t like it much, for pretty much all the reasons mentioned in the video... The map is kind of bland and the lego stuff just tacked on, the lego cars are too visually difierent from normal cars and the styles do not match at all, and even the lego collecting system was a good idea, but the executions feels half baked, with the challanges feeling hollow and pointless... I was originally excited for the 2nd expansion because of how cool the fh3 hot wheels expansion was (horizon being the ultimate playground / theme park fits pretty well with hot wheels, and mamy hot wheels cars are based on real cars, you you can easily build and paint a car that could fit in the hot wheels style, something that`s not possible with Lego) Ultimatwly FH4 is a brilliant game that is inany ways netter than the sum of it`s parts, and while I am absolutly fateagued of the game and my oppinion has dropped as a result, I genuinly think that once we get into FH5 and play that for a bit, this game will start to regain a place in our hearts, even if there won`t be much of a reason to come back
What a masterpiece magnum opus of a video! It's such a testament to the quality of the game that we all have different aspects we love, I have only played eliminator once but spent countless hours in lego valley. This is a real strength you can make the game about what you personally enjoy and mostly ignore what you don't. My biggest gripe with FH3 was people being in the rain without umbrellas and similarly the biggest issue in FH4 is people wearing t-shirts in the snow. I'm going to try eliminator for the 2nd time before FH5 comes out, I don't know why I ignored it for so long? I also don't see the reason why you dislike the lego expansion, is it just because you wanted it to be something else? It has an oval track! we don't even need to turn right anymore!
I remember the final Forzathon screens in Horizon 3, still gives me goosebumps when I check back on the game every now and then. Although I didn’t enjoy Horizon 4 as much I still will hold and cherish many memories from the game and hope playground games give it a good send off.
There's nothing I hate more in fh4 and fh5 than the festival playlist. It's so stupidly boring to complete the same boring races against ai that's so bad that you can often lap them in a 2-3 lap race. When I pay for a game and get more money than I can use, nothings is more annoying than not being able to get a car because I didn't play the week it was out It's also just a complete waste of time having to play an hour or more just to try a car in games where I already have 700+ cars, there also the fact that if I like a car I'll have at least 3 with different tunes, with the festival playlist that's not possible...
I actually love playing this game on the wheel! I’m using a logitech G923 and it’s excellent. I even got a Playseat Challenge and am racing at Pro difficulty level.
glad someone still remember NFS Carbon's Auto-Sculpt feature - it's AMAZING. I don't see any other game have such feature before or even after that game. although in term of vinyl designer, I would loves to have UV texture import function, but understandably it will be almost impossible to moderate what people import that way... //-- other 2 cents : yeah the campaign and tutorial part of the game really need to be better. This game is pretty much MMO-style already, it deserve better story and NPC... and I hoped they can make it more serious rather than FH4's overly hipster style (sorry?) of character presentation. I think game dev really should watch that youtube video where a guy ask his non-gamer wife to play games... there are a lot of things we take for granted, are not obvious for non experienced gamers. Extensive tutorial & an in-game encyclopaedia is really needed for game this vast and complex. // The open world player amount shown is definitely bad, hell even much MUCH older games like NFS World did wayyyyy better than this. //-- Unfortunately I see that the leaderboard have a lot of exploited / cheat scores on them... Those really needs better moderation.
I’m so glad you mentioned the feeling of driving your own car in a video game, it’s almost like you have the same spirit bond that carries over when you’re driving it, very special feeling that I wouldn’t have expected a racing game to give to you
I learned to drive with a controller thanks to this game. I had lots of fun solo and with friends. The worst part for me, I had to prematurely stop playing this game after a month because of the connection issues. After every race me and my friends were waiting around 10 minutes to reconnect to the server and start another race. Anyways, really great video, the music in the end made me almost cry to a game I enjoyed immensely only for a month. By the way, I still listen to hospital radio regularly :)
Your review was top notch. 👌🏻 My biggest problem with FH4 is track layouts and roads... Tracks in FH3 were much much more satisfying and memorable than FH4... i wish online races get more serious in terms of competition and Racing in FH5.
I think this was the first time I watched an hour long video on UA-cam and it was totally worth it. FH4 means a lot to me. It was the game that made me want to play racing games. It was the game that made me purchase a wheel. It was the game I spent hours teaching my 13yo daughter what it is to drive. It was the game that got me to try F1 2020, which then hooked me on actual F1. It was the game that I learned what a racing is and a driveline too, that made me play Forza Motorsport, that led me to find some amazing online content including your channel. Speaking of which, it was a video from you that defined what I do in Horizon: I collect and tune cars. Yep, that's on you! See you in FH5 but I'll never forget FH4.
When I first booted up Horizon 4 I heard Odesza and I was so excited for the soundtrack and the game in general. It did not disappoint and has been fun for the last year and a half!
Thank you for mentioning daily drivers, sound issues and no low class racing lobies. I hope next game will address some of these. Great video, from Russia with love
This review is so good. I just passed 100 Days Played on this game. I love the feeling of collecting the cars. Ur comparison of Forza and a theme park is great. Thanks for the great HOUR video. See you in FH5 with the glorious new sound system.
Forza Horizon 4 is a mixed game. I really enjoyed the game, i’ve had it since 2018 and i’ve completed so much and it’s been great. the 2018-2020 era of the game was its prime. however, i feel like the game was a bit unfinished. why was half of edinburgh walled off? why did the AI cheat so much. after a while it wasn’t a great experience for me when cheating became obvious. i’ve enjoyed Forza Horizon 4, but can’t wait for Forza Horizon 5 now.
When it comes to the soundtrack of Forza games, I've usually enjoyed them for my first hours in the game. After that though, you do hear them too much and I would usually just mute the radio in the settings and play my own music while playing the game. Casually driving around in the open world while listening to your favorite music, or even albums I've never heard before is a great experience.
that was a very quick hour. I played the crap out of Horizon 4. Truly got my money's worth. I kept coming back to it, and despite the warts and all it was still that old friend that you were always happy to see. Can't wait for FH5!
As a late incoming horizon 4 player. Learning from your videos and learning from your knowledge of how to tune cars really primed me for horizon 5. I’m already having a blast!
Forza Horzion 4, while still one of the best racing games ever made, just didn't keep me interested and coming back like Horizon 2 and 3 did. I think one of the reasons I found myself losing interest was that there wasn't much to achieve one you "beat" the game. Nothing to grind towards. Once I got all the cars I wanted and bought all the houses, there was nothing left but weekly Forzathon challenges that just became boring and monotonous pretty quickly. I think the 2nd reason was that while I loved the weather feature and how it would rotate around the seasons each week, I found myself playing for 3 weeks, and then once winter came around, I stopped playing until the next season. I really disliked playing and racing in the snow. It pretty much killed the fun for the next week until the next season came along and it appears i'm not the only one who hated the winter season. It's cool the first few times, but just becomes annoying after you experience it once or twice.
Even then, I think it's atmosphere suffered massively because of the seasons. They were too exaggerated and fake feeling. Horizon 2 was beautiful and it's atmosphere is probably the best of any horizon to date, it's the reason why I occasionally go back to the game even now almost 10 years later.
As one who only just started playing a few weeks ago I must agree. Just in my first winter week. Yuk. Plus I lived in England for 4 years. Britain isn't Sweden or Finland! There is hardly ever that much snow!
You know I think he forgot to mention the house system. Personally I wasn't a fan. The houses are beautiful but without being able to go inside, there's not a lot of point. I would much rather have had garages, like GTA does, where I can set a few cars to display and customize the inside of the garage a limited amount. And you now. See inside. Move around. Etc..
The thing to grind towards I getting better... Imagine if people who like fishing were like "there's nothing to grind towards" 😂 just get better at the game and set yourself measurable goals to do it 👏🏻
The last good Horizon... Why does it seem like there's a rule of four with racing game IPs? Forza Motorsport 4, Gran Turismo 4, Burnout Revenge, Project Gotham Racing 4, Need for Speed: High Stakes (although that's a bit debatable, but I personally think it's the best), Ridge Racer Type 4... Every racing game developer who has or wants to build an IP always perfects it by the fourth iteration, and then everything else that follows may be good, but doesn't have the magic.
I've put 5000+ hours into the game and you basically reaffirmed everything I already kinda thought about the game. It has flaws, but I still love it. I found a few tears in my eyes at the end of this video, definitely subscribed.
This was an excellent retrospective, you did fantastic work here. FH3 shines brighter for me personally, but FH4 added a lot to the formula, especially when taking it's full life cycle into account. I'm hoping FH5 is going to be the perfect marriage of the two, keeping what worked and improving what needed improving. Only places I really disagree with you are the lack of overall story and the soundtrack. Going all the way back to Need For Speed Underground, I've always thought stories about beating a fast a**hole were lame. I'd much rather have a bite-sized story about van delivery, or movie stuntman. I'm 90% sure if these were expanded on too much they would outstay their welcome. But 10 episodes that get me to try new vehicles or pay special attention to a piece of road I might have overlooked? I'm all about it. (you praised this aspect too). I'd love to see other racing games in the future borrow from this. As for the soundtrack, I'm not a big fan of EDM, and SO MUCH of it just blends together. New song, same exact drum beat. Songs with hooks so annoying I mute the TV audio because that's easier than turning of the radio. The rap and rock that are included weren't really my cup of tea either. It's true I don't have mainstream tastes and any soundtrack marketed to me specifically is going to turn off most of the player base. But I play a lot of games, and listen to a lot of music, and there's very little out there that annoys me so much it hurts my enjoyment of something. Really hoping FH5 has at least one station I can just leave on and not think about. Anyway, none of this saying you're wrong, just throwing my unasked for two cents out there :p. Really enjoyed this, thanks for making it!
Play the classical station. It is relaxing, and also funny, because you can have calm waltz music playing as a 200mph HyperCard bursts through a forest.
The Stories have been around since the OG Horizon, they were called Bucket List events. You did the same stuff - (Get from Point A to Point B, Get Drift Points - Meet the distance off a Danger Zone) ect. The Stories just condensed it.
I will still be playing FH4 until it gets taken off of gamepass. My goal since the start was to win every race I compete in. Now, it has been 3 years since the launch; and we need to say goodbye. R.I.P FH4 2018-2021
Impressive work. You can see this video took a lot of time and effort to do.
Awsome Job, thanks
this is probably the best FH review on the internet rn. good job, man.

Now that FH5 is out, I can confidently say this: FH4 intro sequence > FH5 intro sequence. I will never forget the introduction to each season and racing to the finish line in the Senna.

And it just got really boring and missed what really made the Horizon series or even the Motorsport series
It is a solid game for sure and will be missed but I just can't wait to play FH5 knowing that it's a massive improvement over FH4
Yeah, exactly my thoughts
seriously, they crapped the bed, and with h5 they just got a whole new bed instead of just new sheets

The visuals, physics, environment, cars, music, gameplay really shows that 2 really continued the Horizon saga and I really enjoyed 3 because of the map, the scenery, the views my God and of course it still has the Horizon vibe where there are festivals and you can even take charge too Hot Wheels DLC has to be the best DLC expansion pack ever made yes I do agree that the progression was a bit lost in 3 but it was just nonexistent in 4 and there wasn't really any kind of connection
Looking at the early gameplays of 5 I'm just so excited and I just can't wait to play the game!

This game was amazing. It does however has its problems. The forced seasons (mainly winter), the lackluster car sounds and the weird mess of a campaign were all turn offs.
Still active to this day. It’s not like it’s gone forever like horizon 1 and 2. Now those will be remembered forever!
Im 26 and Forza Horizon 4 was my intro to the series after getting my new Xbox One S about a month ago after losing my 360 years ago "thank you to my nephew who's 8" 😂 big car fan and lover of NFS! I love it because of the wide open world and the massive selection of cars (old & new) the fact that I can still play part of it offline and I can just enjoy driving around freely, especially without the cops you would normally get with NFS games
also since this series doesn't use nitro like other games it's all skill instead of more speed ☺️
Im gonna watch it all, i’ve just discovered your cannel and its awesome!!!
I’ve have been playing FH4 this last month and IM IN LOVE.
yeah. FH4 will always be special for me. Helped me cope with depression and introduced me to car culture. It also nailed the uk vibe with the classy Edinburgh to the calm village of Ambelside.

Agreed. I almost fell asleep listening to him. Very calming and pleasant to listen to
I bought this game late into its lifecycle and boy did I enjoy my short time with it.

This is an amazing cinematic breakdown of FH4, I could watch this all day. It also doesn’t hurt that you showed me winning a race.

Fantastic and detailed video. Great job as always.
@@Quack4519 they didn’t say anything about working on it during the live stream.

I know I'm late tho I'm playing Fh4 now through steam and I see so many online players in my lobby it's so fun to drive with them and horn just love that there are still so many players playing Fh4!!
Buying Forza Horizon 4 roughly one year after launch with all DLCs on sale was certainly the best decision I made
playing 1~2 hours every week gave me 80+% festival playlist and gave me all the cars I ever wanted and fun for many many months
I even started finally driving manually in a game in the first time ever and manually tuning cars
Even though many people (including me) will consider this game the weakest in the series, we'll still miss it for the good times it brought us.
The weakest?
@@lucasvonheiz1310 The previous 3 just had a much better atmosphere imo. Better maps and much better car sounds. For example the M4 has the exact same sound file as the Nissan GTR lol. Or the Huayra sounds the same as the Zonda etc..
@Dev King I didn't play FH1 that much but it's a fan favorite. 4 is technically the better game but 1 had the vibes

This is actually something that Burnout paradise did with their expansion with Big Surf Island
its actually a island off of the side of the main map and the way to get there is take a bridge with big jumps implying the large verticality that the island had
I love that game
Incredible video, thanks for making it!
That explanation with the BLT at 8:00 was actually really accurate!
with horizon 5 coming out in 3 days, this video helped me realize all the effort it took playground to keep us satisfied with the game while working in horizon 5 which is super promising. i’m not gonna lie i teared up a hit at the end thinking of all the memories i have of this game, i remember not having the money to buy it at launch so my best friend bought it for me because we shared the same passion for cars and forza since motorsport 5. racing through the highways with all kinds of cars, finally getting the supra and the evo. final words: Forza Horizon 4 was the most memorable game in a while coming second to my most memorable game GTA 5 story.
Love this review! Also you can tell the love that went into this video. Can’t wait to see your videos for horizon 5!
Free roam rush is a great party style gametype and I do hope they keep it for FH5. It just has no place in ranked adventure, even for dirt or CC. I do hope it remains on the social side of matchmaking, though.
Thank you, and thanks for everything you did for this community. ❤
Never heard such a good BLT analogy. Really hit the nail on what I felt was missing after hours of free roaming!
I completely disagreed with that point. For me story is just an annoyance in racing games. I just want to race :)
Even more so when the cutscenes are not skipable like in NFS
i shivered watching this. too good!
"car feels like an extension of yourself"
i didn't know there was such a good way to put something
when im playin something like nfs heat, or the crew, it feels terrible, like im playing an arcade
when im playing fh4 or any forza game in general, i can FEEL the car
very well put fr
Exebition allows you to use whatever you want, while championships lock you to specific types and classes of cars, which forces you to try more types and eras ofcars
The map for me is kind of a mixed bag, in the sense that yes there are alot of hilly and curvy roads, and yes the cenery is beautiful, but to me the game kind of lacks visual variation (the scenery is always more or less one colour, which the big varience being the season, rather than where you are in the map).
I eventually would turn off the radio entirely and just listen to spotify
Tbe car sounds is something I didn`t notice or really pay attention to for the first year or so (it sounded fine to my ears), but after seeing alot of comments and videos criticizing the sounds for not sounding vary good or loads of cars sharing sounds, I eventually acquired and played every previous Horizon game (FH4 was my entry point into the series when I bought an XBOX with the game bundled in for the christmas after the game`s release), and indeed the sounds are really underwhelming, particularly compared to FH2, but even FH3 sounds amazing in comparison)
The post launch support was something I never gave much thought to beyond the festival playlist, sinse I hate interacting online with strangers ingame, and generally don`t even enjoy playong with friends that much (outside of just cruising or doing private races), so I ignored most the added game modes, though looking back, the support the game recieved was nothing short of impressive...
As for the expansions: fortune Island was really fun and has some really cool roads, particularly needle climb and the dirt roads at the top of the map, but the map is honestly too small and once you`ve done all the events you will litterally omly return for needle climb and the previously mentioned rally roads at the top of the map
As for Lego Champions: I didm`t like it much, for pretty much all the reasons mentioned in the video... The map is kind of bland and the lego stuff just tacked on, the lego cars are too visually difierent from normal cars and the styles do not match at all, and even the lego collecting system was a good idea, but the executions feels half baked, with the challanges feeling hollow and pointless...
I was originally excited for the 2nd expansion because of how cool the fh3 hot wheels expansion was (horizon being the ultimate playground / theme park fits pretty well with hot wheels, and mamy hot wheels cars are based on real cars, you you can easily build and paint a car that could fit in the hot wheels style, something that`s not possible with Lego)
Ultimatwly FH4 is a brilliant game that is inany ways netter than the sum of it`s parts, and while I am absolutly fateagued of the game and my oppinion has dropped as a result, I genuinly think that once we get into FH5 and play that for a bit, this game will start to regain a place in our hearts, even if there won`t be much of a reason to come back
What a masterpiece magnum opus of a video!
Holy Sheeeeeesh 1 hour great job HokiHoshi 🌅😉👊
I remember the final Forzathon screens in Horizon 3, still gives me goosebumps when I check back on the game every now and then. Although I didn’t enjoy Horizon 4 as much I still will hold and cherish many memories from the game and hope playground games give it a good send off.
There's nothing I hate more in fh4 and fh5 than the festival playlist. It's so stupidly boring to complete the same boring races against ai that's so bad that you can often lap them in a 2-3 lap race. When I pay for a game and get more money than I can use, nothings is more annoying than not being able to get a car because I didn't play the week it was out
It's also just a complete waste of time having to play an hour or more just to try a car in games where I already have 700+ cars, there also the fact that if I like a car I'll have at least 3 with different tunes, with the festival playlist that's not possible...
Fantastic work on this summary video. Captures the journey really well! Looking forward to your continuing content with Horizon 5.
This was such a great watch that kept me entertained all the time, thank you for doing this!
I actually love playing this game on the wheel! I’m using a logitech G923 and it’s excellent. I even got a Playseat Challenge and am racing at Pro difficulty level.
glad someone still remember NFS Carbon's Auto-Sculpt feature - it's AMAZING. I don't see any other game have such feature before or even after that game.
although in term of vinyl designer, I would loves to have UV texture import function, but understandably it will be almost impossible to moderate what people import that way...

other 2 cents : yeah the campaign and tutorial part of the game really need to be better.

Unfortunately I see that the leaderboard have a lot of exploited / cheat scores on them... Those really needs better moderation.
I’m so glad you mentioned the feeling of driving your own car in a video game, it’s almost like you have the same spirit bond that carries over when you’re driving it, very special feeling that I wouldn’t have expected a racing game to give to you
Wow, what an absolute masterpiece of a video. Keep up the great work!
Amazing video, Thanks for putting in the time to create this masterpiece!
Horizon 4 will be remembered by many as we grow older together haha ..
Beautiful video! i couldnt say it better man!!
Wow, an 1hr long vid for this game. You are truly dedicated your craft. Salute sir!
Your review was top notch. 👌🏻
My biggest problem with FH4 is track layouts and roads...
What a wonderful review. Really well done.
Thank you for mentioning daily drivers, sound issues and no low class racing lobies. I hope next game will address some of these. Great video, from Russia with love
The extended life of H4 without another release proves the adage: “Familiarity breeds contempt.”
0:01 Finally a person that uses Haltija from Etherwood!
fh4 got me into racing games I really loved it I remember auctioning for cars just for driving them
thank you, for the articulate, intelligent, and insightful synopsis of the last three years of my life.
Great Video! You always use good musical choices!
that was a very quick hour.
Etc..
@@u4icdissonance180 go check tdu.
You'll see that fh is clearly lazy on it
The thing to grind towards I getting better... Imagine if people who like fishing were like "there's nothing to grind towards" 😂 just get better at the game and set yourself measurable goals to do it 👏🏻
Great retrospective well done
FH5 feels like a more complete (but less stable) version of FH4
this game really does turn gamers into car lovers, and vice versa
The last good Horizon... Why does it seem like there's a rule of four with racing game IPs? Forza Motorsport 4, Gran Turismo 4, Burnout Revenge, Project Gotham Racing 4, Need for Speed: High Stakes (although that's a bit debatable, but I personally think it's the best), Ridge Racer Type 4... Every racing game developer who has or wants to build an IP always perfects it by the fourth iteration, and then everything else that follows may be good, but doesn't have the magic.
3 was the last good one
It is relaxing, and also funny, because you can have calm waltz music playing as a 200mph HyperCard bursts through a forest.
tbh is just have youtube music open on my second monitor.
The Stories have been around since the OG Horizon, they were called Bucket List events.
You did the same stuff - (Get from Point A to Point B, Get Drift Points - Meet the distance off
a Danger Zone) ect. The Stories just condensed it.
This has to be the longest review i ever watched, well done.
I will still be playing FH4 until it gets taken off of gamepass. My goal since the start was to win every race I compete in. Now, it has been 3 years since the launch; and we need to say goodbye. R.I.P FH4 2018-2021
