Just did brissy to Finke and back with mine on the wrong way, fixed it today I was smoking out entire suburbs with white smoke 😅 thanks for spreading the word here too.
Also in sub freezing weather drain the can more often, as water condensate can freeze and plug up the works. And of course drain when engine compartment is warmed up.
Having installed this exact unit to my rig, and I'm a complete novice, it seemed pretty straight forward. It's frightening so many are wrong. How? For the record been running it for over 3 years now and it's one of the best mods I've invested in. It's collected over 900ml of oil that time.
Good point made. Have seen this mistake myself, some cans like the Ryco are opposite to the pro-vent; ie they have the inlet at the lower and the outlet back into the engine crankcase at the top of the can. Can be confusing.
Im about to be given a Ssanyong Ute, and this mod was first thing that I had in mind. I cant fathom how people mess this up, if you take 5 minutes to understand how it works it seems bleeding obvious how you would plumb it :)
I bought my 2016 79 series Land Cruiser new and fitted a provent 200 catch can. drain about 50-100ml of oil from it every 5000ks. have done about 80,000 kilometers since fitting it with no issue. good investment to stop the oily mist making its way into the inlet.
Can this be installed after a stock breather valve? E280 cdi has a breather valve on the cam cover and then the breather valve feeds it back to the turbo. Could i splice this between the breather valve and the turbo? Or should i remobe the original breather valve?
Great video, thanks for the useful info. I have a filter just like the one you use in the clip. That valve down the bottom, does that need any servicing? I've had my catch can for about 4 years & never looked at it. Also, do you know if the top lids/covers are available? Mine doesn't seal well. Thanks very much.
Hi there, i have the provent 200 fitted to a 3.2lt ranger. On two occasions now the safety vavle on the bottom has popped out. The filter is only 5000km old and it is definitely hooked up the right way. Cheers in advance.
The spring-loaded valve at the outlet port, what is the purpose of that valve? When it is at closed position on high engine RPM, wouldn't it create high crankcase pressure?
@@BerrimaDiesel This valve does close under high vacuum from the turbo hence its spring loaded. There is a UA-cam video from Western Filter showing the operation of this valve under engine load. But it didn't provide an explanation. What is the purpose of having a valve here at the outlet then?
So i ripped out my catch can in my prado 150 2019 after watching some other youtube channel.. now aparently the new prados come with catch cans from factory ?
I’ve got a Isuzu Dmax which has done 102,000k over 7 years and I’m planning on fitting a Provent PV644DPK catch can. I’m thinking of doing it myself even though I get it serviced at Isuzu. Is there something that I can do before fitting the new Provent setup?. I have this feeling like I should get something cleaned out before fitting this system to a 102k dual cab. Should the inlet be scrubbed out or is there a quick process of getting the oil that’s already accumulated removed if there is some in the system. No one ever talks about the process of fitting this type of system to a older vehicle, only to fit it to a new one. If there is a process before fitting one, how much would it cost to get the system nice and clean before the newly installed catch can system. Thanks
This paper filter get clogged up after around 2000km especially during winter time and if you don't use the car for a few days and block the passage of air. This is the problem I faced on the past.
Hey mate, thanks for the video, hard to imagine getting it wrong with all the instructions, anyway, I’m about to get a used diese Triton (~50,000kms) First thing I’m going to do is install a diesel catch can; it doesn’t have one at the moment and might be a bit of a hassle finding out if the previous owner had one and has just taken it off before selling, What’s the most important thing to check for during my first service in terms of the Ute potentially not having a catch can for ~55,000kms of use? Cheers
Heyy mate, quick question, would you recommend fitting a filter onto my 2013 td toyota hilux with 317000kms don’t have one installed and haven’t had any issues, reckon I should install one or nah I service the car every 10- 15000k, thanks
Hi. I have a VW Touareg with Mann 150 installed by my mechanic. It appears to be leaking a bit of oil from about 1/2 way down. Could it just be overfull, or connected back to front? Is there an easy way for me to tell as I can't see where the hoses go. Obviously I'm not a mechanic. Thanks in advance.
Mate, you look like Irish or Scottish stock from Victoria, Australia, and like all of my family members. We've been here since the last ¼ of the 1800s. We're Aussie now, but still Celtic.
These filter catch cans are effective but, if you don't change the filter regularly, it will get clogged up and reduce flow. This is when it starts to be dangerous to your engine.
Hi. I bought at New toyota fortuner 2021 crusade in australia... Can i also install that... I have 5 years unlimited kilometres warranty... Is it safe to install while it's under warranty.... Its diesel 2.8 turbo.
Dare I ask and I may know your answer but the non branded catch cans that look identical in every way shape and form to the Provent. Whats the issue with using these at less than half the cost? Just a simple filter if hooked up the right way and drained regularly. Is there any pitfalls with the cheaper version ??
Let me see if it dont make my oilpan leak on ls3 with 5000 miles onit then il buy it but i thk they All doit ud hav2 hav a Very big catchcan i thks the Only way
People also need to change the filter. I seen a 79 that had a catch can. The filter in the catch can was all gunked up and blocked. The over pressure caused an expensive time.
Luckily using Genuine German made Mann Hummel Oil Fumes separation catch can has pressure relief valves etc etc. Moral of the Story - buy Quality. Look after it.

Tghey have direction arrows marked on them.
In what instance do I need a catch can?
Diesel with Common Rail technology
Thanks for the video! As with anything in forums, msg boards etc. there is always misinformation floating around.

yes follow the arrows because ryco catch cans are the opposite way

Does the inlet (top) mean the hose from the rocker cover and the outlet (bottom) goes into the turbo intake pipe? I have a dmax

Is this provent catch can available in your shop here in the Philippines?
They may have stocks you can call the PH office
As a forty year experienced diesel mechanic I say take this trash off your car and throw it in the Bush.
Can I just vent the catch can to atmosphere instead of rerouting it to intake manifold ?
If youve gone to the cost/extent of a proper catch can then you may as well connect it correctly
What i dont understand is how the air is passing through the filter if its full of oil.
Anyone can explain what im missing?
Yep if it becomes full of oil the breathing fumes cannot pass and then youll blow seals. So key is normal draining/servicing.
Is it ever too late to install a catch can? 130k ranger 3.2
Never too late
Flash Lube catch can inlet and outlet is opposite to Provent to confuse the issue.
You should explain this on your next catch can video
We just focus on what we use here if theyre confusing people no doubt they have a problem.
Nothing wrong with a bit of oil mist going into the intake....... as long as the egr is blanked off.
Haha
