    My small Mitsubishi ASX had just enough space to install the big Provent 200. I made a simple bracket myself and it hasn’t moved a mm in 3 years. I get 40,000 km easy, and I service the filter every 10k (and twice in Vic winter due to condensation) by using paper towels to soak excess oil and clean off any sludge. The paper towel trick was recommended by my Benz dealer in Germany. These are great.

    The wee small ones with the dip stick that screws in and out i bought off ebay..soon as i got it i tested it to see if it hold vacuum and found out it didn't. Filled sink with water an blew into one on the holes while other was blocked off and seen where it was leaking. Bubbles appeared from where the dipstick was screwed in. Was able to put an O ring on it and holds vacuum and no leaks. So best to check theres no leaks before fitting.

    I just changed my Flashlube Pro element after 40,000 ks of mostly touring work over 4 years. The old element looked perfect, like brand new but changed it out anyway. I have collected all the oil drained during the 40,000 ks. It would be approximately 600 to 700 ml. of oil. Very glad I have had it fitted since Dmax was new.

    While fitting a provent kit on my 200 I noticed that the inlet and outlet ports are shown incorrectly on Mann & Hummel's diagrams and provent installation guides. The Ryco diagrams show correct orientation (Ryco element interchangable with the Mann). The gases into a coalescing filter should be from the outside of the element with the filter inlet lower than the outlet and with the relief also correctly at the inlet to enabling venting in the case of a blocked filter or full catch can preventing over-pressurisation of the crankcase and subsequent front/rear crankshaft seal failure.

    Good day Andrew.
    Why not just connect the drain line back to the sump?
    It is only the gas that needs to be "burned" in the combustion cycle.
    Why not let the separated oil drain back in to the sump?

    Hi guys, great vid. But no one I have approached has bothered to answer a tech question about the provent. My V6 Amarok and like all other diesel 4by's have an "unrestricted" air flow from the rocker cover to the turbo inlet. Placing a provent in the line means the oily air is now trying to go through a filter, once this filter gets wet with oil how does the "filtered" air pass back into the engine without creating pressure in the rocker cover ? Yes I know provent has a pressure relief valve but bare in mind the oem design has no restriction and my concerns are the built up pressure will force oil leak problems. Thoughts?

    • @BerrimaDiesel
      @BerrimaDiesel  4 роки тому +2

      Simply- The breathing fumes from your engine go ONE WAY...and thats towards the engine. A proper catch can separates the oil from the fumes. Any pressure (only from the blow by fumes) due to a blocked catch can filter will open a vent. You would normally change the filter about every 40,000km so you wont have this happen. Its German made so the Germans already think ahead and have redundancy.

    I recently got rid of my provent 200 as it was pressurising the engine so went with flash lube and found it heaps better... don’t know if it was a faulty RV on it but yeah it was messy with genuine filters.. and the ones from eBay seemed to be less resistance but also less trapped oil..🤷🏼‍♂️ so turfed it..

They ranged from the cheap $30-40 range up to the $70 from western filters and the last one was from them and I noticed puffs of white smoke on start up which I wasn’t happy about and thought that the turbo seals where being compromised and also a slight loss of power and then lots of oil down the side of the block.. so finally said enough is enough and bought the flash lube

    Sooo. How do you get lubrication into the inlet side? Direct injection means no lubrication over the bottom of the valves that fuel and/oil vapor would normally supply. Therefore in the case of EGR valves a catch can would prevent this lubrication and you would only get dirty soot running over the valves which I imagine is fairly abrasive? Is the catch can REALLY a good idea?

    • @BerrimaDiesel

      @@BerrimaDiesel it Comes from exhaust through the EGR system. This mixes with that oil vapor creating the sticky black sludge. to stop it you have to delete the EGR soot. If you delete the oil you will only get the Soot...which is abrasive. if you delete the egr and retain the oil you will keep it clean.

    • @BerrimaDiesel
