These Ruger Marlin lever guns are all really cool. The balance of this .44mag version is amazing. As soon as I held it, I had to have it. It's easily handled with one hand while resting the stock on my shoulder. I could probably shoot it one-handed. Didn't figure on getting another. 44, but I did. 1895 SBL, 1894 SBL, 1894C in both 44mag and 357mag... If I come across the 1894 SBL in 357, it will be mine, too. All these guns are well made, beautiful, and just fun to have. I've only shot my 45-70 so far... What a blast!!!
Very nice - no surprise there. Only Ruger could make the excellent JM Marlins even better. I bought a JM Marlin #336 in 1966, in 44 Magnum, and it's still going strong today. Plus, three other JM Marlins: 22LR, 444 Marlin, and 45-70 Guide Gun.
Helpful review, thanks. Deciding between the SBL and the Trapper in .44 Mag for short range brush hunting for deer/elk. Also considering the 1895 SBL and Trapper, but leaning toward the 1894 .44. I'm also leaning more toward the classic style of the trapper. Any feedback on which would be better for my intended purpose between the Trapper and the SBL?
Just got one of these yesterday and can't wait to take it out and give it a whirl! I think the length is actually 33.25" however, not 38. Which is good to know when it comes to cases.
I just bought one, the price was too good to resist! I was actually looking for another 45-70, but I saw this baby and that was it! Plus, I currently don't have a 44 mag rifle. I will soon...
The correct overall length is 33.25" and NOT the 38.25" I had mentioned. I switched some numbers around in my head. Sorry about that.
I sold my old 1894 45/70 after moving out of Alaska. This new model has me feeling a certain way.

You are correct! 33.25" is the correct length. Not sure why I said 38.25". Good catch!
Cant wait for the 357 mag version 💯
Agreed!
They make a 357 version. Just like this one or Blued! Model 461301 for the Stainless version.
This is a beauty

Can you get one with traditional blue finish ?
Can you remove the pic rail on top?
Sure, it's held on by a few screws
I’ll want one ☝️
