This method is used to get a cleaner, smoother, vocal sound. Part 2 is dedicated to adding clarity and presence in a vocal mix so it cuts through and stands out over a beat/instrumental. I just got the slate ml 1.
Still have 1 day left to return it.
Its not bad. It has a weird sibilance going on, kind of like a whistle at times, but it only occurred twice. Anyways, one of the biggest drawbacks for me is having to rely on the software, and it being kind of a gimmick, even though it does what it says it does. (and I'm not sure how long these mics last...)
I was thinking to get the Neumann u87ai and call it a day.
Please do tell me what your (unbiased) thoughts are when it comes to the ml1 vs u87ai, since you have them both.
Do you think I should just stick with the ml1, or return it and pull the trigger on the u87ai?

Should I eq with autotune vocals or turn autotune of while eq?
What about the real time FX on the next FX? Things like the Chorus, Reverb and Tempo Delay?
I dunno about everyone else but compression is where i get stuck at. Also reverb and delay.
ight so when i say words that start with an “A or I” or say “uhh” there’s a pop not like plosive pop but a number pop how would i eq that out ?

Thanks now I know a technique to actually use EQ correctly instead of just canceling the low end, raising the high ends, and messing with the middle lol
Thanks so much for these videos ! I’m a new subscriber here and a newbie over all so I’m just learning about the art of how to eq. I had no idea about “subtractive eq”. Just shows how much I know. Lol. But if I can ask one question ( and this may be a dumb question to some so sorry if it is ) : i don’t understand one thing : the moment you bring in a second eq in your vocal chain ( after the subtractive eq) and start boosting and all , don’t you just bring back ALL the frequencies again that you got rid of on the first eq ?? If i cut on band 4 for example then boost on band 4 on the second eq , isn’t what I cut literally just brought back ? Thanks so much. That’s the one thing that stumps me about additive and subtractive eq. Thanks again. Sorry for the long comment. Lol. It’s really appreciated though.

I know this is for EQ but I strongly suggest putting a noise suppressor or de-reverb on the vocals before equing to get some of the room ambience out of the way so you can dial in your surgical EQ without all the room ambience in the way.
