Was yelling at my screen saying the other ones are cracked! Lol. Also looks like alot of heat has discoloured the board around that area.
I was looking and was like, "Alex, there's a giant crack in that chip."
Do you think our guy is loosing sight 😅
Yeah me too I saw it and thought maybe I'm mistaken because Alex didn't even mention it😅
Bro need a holyday ❤
Me too😂
i'll be honest, there is little chance that CPU isn't blown with how much damage the mosfets took, but you never know ! Good luck with the fix, will definitly look out for the follow-up !
it's sad a company won't deal with you just because of your name, i always liked dealing with digikey but now i'm not so sure i want to knowing this.
Like others have said there are other vendors that won't discriminate over something so trivial.
Am curious to see how this one turns out.
Nice job alex
What's the problem with his name? I don't understand
is it just pure racism or racism in the context that they think people with such names might be terrorists? it's all meaningless cause they could just fill in john johnson and there's no problem.
@@yanivefraim944 his name is hussain something and that site is somehow scared of muslims😂
@@yanivefraim944- The company is basically saying that he must be a terrorist with his name and ordering components to make a bomb is the long and short of it. Another word for it is racism
@@yanivefraim944 i don't get it, he has not done anything against digikey
Who else was sitting there with baited breath, waiting for Alex to see those two cracked MOSFETs lol
Hahaha me me me 😃
The outro is better than factory 😅.
Thanks for your videos and the offtopic tips and tricks. Calm voice and you are on point, i appreciate it. 🎉
Excellent work Alex. Board might have already gone through high thermal state. Depending on four or six layered layout, there may be strain on other underlying layers to brittle.
Thats probably why it was a no fix from the last tech
Yeah i also thinl how did they crack, seems like the board moved or heat expansion or something but the board underneath shoupd be the same cracked no? Or maybe since its a 60 amp chip mayne by itself in expanded from heat.
The next question, did something overload those MOSFETs? Perhaps a massive short after the MOSFET?
I look forward to the final chapter of this repair. Thanks Alex.
They deliver 60A peak, that is essentially short-circuit current for a 1.8V rail. Their normal operation is short-circuit 😅 no wonder they fail.
@@filips7158
But, at least two failed so bad the IC cracked like the San Andreas fault. Was it a short after the MOSFETs or poor engineering? Hopefully, we will find out in a few weeks.
@@filips7158the 60A rating is often way more than enough for the CPU; the rating is that high to withstand the heat produced by high current demand; the power circuit being multi phase means the thermal capacity of the MOSFETs are even bigger, thus you hardly can overload those MOSFETs at all; mostly i suspect they are killed by transient spikes - the immediate death
@@bblod4896correct me if im wrong but you cannot destroy the drivers like that by just applying a short circuit. something even worse probably killed them
@@mungie
Turning on and off? Surge current?
I do like your smile with the satisfaction of finding the fault so quickly. Top G of electronics. Thanks Alex
My mentor welcome back Mr Alex watching 🇿🇲
Muli bwanji?
Today I was faced very rare UA-cam feedback recommendation. UA-cam asked me about one of your video "how fun was this video ? " With few choices for grading my fun status. Under the next video suggestion one video from louis rosmman, thumbnail was he is pointing middle finger, nice combination
Regards
Can't buy the chips from Digikey cause of your name? Please explain.
ua-cam.com/video/C1oqFmtatEk/v-deo.html
6:05 just spotted the cracked mosfet above the one being currently worked on.
Lol
Sorry can't watch the videos anymore due to UA-cam's excessive amount of ads and now they are blocking ad blockers that make viewing videos more bearable. I am choosing to support channels that move off the platform.
Hi Alex! i donated a silver razer 15 inch laptop a couple months ago hopefully you can find what you need in that one
Is there a particular reason why so many "repair shops" seem to deam many small circuit repairs like this as "unrepairable" (even the very own manufacturers) , yet you manage to figure it out relatively quickly in most cases and then just proceed to order the needed parts or use in stock donor parts. It seems so ilogical to refuse a repair unless it really is a case of a completely dead item with no true possible way of repairing it.
If it was possible, geographically, to work/study under you, I'd love the chance to. You seem to be vastly more equipped intellectually than so many other "pros".
*Um. How about laziness, ineptitude, lack of proper diagnostic equipment and processes, etc. The list could be quite long. Cheers!*
Inexperience is a big factor and if they do attempt it they would mostly likely do more damage making the repair a longer process for a professional
Not everyone has the skills and experience of Alex, and his time is worth money. the econonics and risk and time of component replacement means there are not many places that will do component level repairs, so if module level is not economic, the repair shop will say so, and charge a basic fee for looking at it.
Bc often it's not economically. The bulk of broken hardware is valued at only 100-200 euro. NRF gets sent high vaule repairs from even outside California.
It’s a Razer.
Quick diagnosis. Good job.
Its time to add new chip inventory of MPNR 8694! 😁😁😁😁😁😁
I wonder did the last repair shop see the broken chips and didn’t want to replace them
the clue is the repair local shop did not find the cause, so the shop is not true repair shop with skill and equipment like northridgefix......maybe simple troubleshoting shop
@@billykulim5202 yea true you do need knowledge and equipment to actually do board level repair
Good troubleshooting again !🙂
Love your videos. I don't know how to set up Multimeter for those measures, ca you do a video hot to measure caps, diodes, mosfets, resistances with Multimeter. Tanks!
There are plenty of UA-cam channels that already explain the multimeter and how to measure components.
You should take a basic electronic course at your local college.
Funny fuse has big X. Skull/Crossbones would be good too.
LOL, was wondering when you were gonna comment on the dirty great cracks in those chips 😀
i saw those cracks from the beginning jajajajaja.
Nice diagnose.
Genius Alex your the best
Let us know if replacing those faulty Dr Mosfets fixed the problem???? I got Asus F15 with exactly same shorted model of Dr Mosfet, just ordered it and hoping after replacing shorted mos it will not turn out to bed dead CPU. Thanks for the quality content. Cheers. EDIT: Dr fet replaced and my laptop is alive :)
Very informative! Thank you.
Man I have same laptop with same issues and I live in UK All shops I took it to I've been told it's not fixable!!!I Why you not in Europe 😢
Yeah I was yelling at the screen too pretty sure all of them were cracked except one that was this internally shorted..
Nice work!
8:24 is what I watch these videos for
Big Fans from Anchorage Alaska lol 😊
Why can't you order from digikey because of your name?
Alex how do you measure voltage drop?? are you still in diode mode? very new to this. keep up the good work
Yes, best to use red probe on ground when using diode mode, unless testing a diode directly.
When will you do a tour of all the tools you have? That way we know what we need to buy from your Northridgefix shop :) cheers
Go back through the videos, he has shown every single tool he uses and sells and explains why he preferrs to use them.
He's already done that. You just have to go back through the videos. Everything he sells is what he uses.
Cool thanx
You may change your name for shopping, something like Jack Smith LOL
Hello Alex.
I watch the video and it's look like 2 of the othe chips has a cracks upper and hen suspected!
It's a shame there's no way to see if the CPU was fried before spending the time/effort sourcing and replacing the power delivery ICs.
Do CPU power rails ever go short-circuit when they get zapped?
Depends on the generation, recent ones have so low resistance that you can't even figure if it is shorted.
Some old generation had up to 18ohms of resistance and measuring something lower than 5 ohm usually meant dead cpu .
You have to know your generation specs to figure out if the chip is still good 😅
It's only possible to see sometimes, and ideally when you have 2 exactly same boards to cross-measure. Usually it lowers the resistance just a little bit, haven't really seen them go full blown zero ohms. It's a crap shoot and I reject repairs that have had B+ gone straight to CPU through shorted MOSFETs. Haven't had one case in which the CPU survived. Those power supplies in gaming laptops deliver upwards of 12A at 19.5V, CPUs are going to lose the battle each time. Some technicians get lucky just to have a comeback because the CPU will die later on even if it survived the initial zap.
@@FrozenHaxor I hate modern laptops. If CPU's were still socketed we wouldn't have so many issues with rejected repairs. BGA is a nightmare. Everything soldered to one board to save a few MM on the machine thickness.
legend :>
I would suggest replacing all 5.
Should I be boycotting Digikey? What do they have agains't his name?
Very lucky!!!, Most of this short circuit kills the graphics card or CPU
What about Newark? They're bigger than Mouser
ok .... waiting
What would cause a chip to crack in half like that?
to much heat
if one shorts internally it will heat up and cause the chip to expand and crack at the point of the short.
makes me wonder if the person was doing some OC'ing or just some heavy gaming. Some of these games do tax hardware quite a bit.
@@swoopulater those are 60A drivers, and the whole power circuit is multi phase (60A x # phases) so i dont think heavy overclocking would cause such an issue like that; more likely its some very bad transient spikes that immediately blown the drivers when they happened
Oucan do voltage injection also with just feeling the board right? And am i right to conclude that you would inject voltage at the location of the short or woupd it change from time to time?
i wish i could fix like you
Is there gonna be a follow up video?
Listen 10:00 timemark
@@straxx99 i mean he says that all the time but I rarely see a follow up 😑
Can you inject voltage into CPU itself and see it is is a short before ordering new chips ?
they 60 amps and stiil fail ? and short ,where get that current to fail ? or they no really 60 amps
Love from Pakistan
Hey mate, what's the leg doing? Does it heal?
Need your help 🙏 🙏 with a Alienware Area 51M R2 not turning on. Just shut off on me in the middle of playing and I live about 30mins from the shop
"Until we get our hands on those IC's".
Sorry the stupid question. Could somebody please tell me what "IC" stands for? Integrated chip?
Integrated Circuit. An IC is one chip with many circuits inside it :)
@@supergeekjay Thanks for answering my question without being horrible or condescending. :) I'm just learning soldering, so I need to know these key words for when I need to google & order replacement components.
Hello everyone can you help me😅 my Laptop asus ROG GL702ZC randomly shutdown or black screen while I'm using but i still heard the music from my laptop😢 or sometimes when i open it no display but the FAN noise is very loud😢 but when i go to bios no randomly shutdown and no black screen what do you think happens my laptop guys is that a driver issue or my OS or MY GPU HAVE ISSUES???
Awesome ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
X mark a fuse 😀😀😀usually X mark a spot for treasure
Interesting to see server-grade component choice, will have to look at Razer for my next laptop
No dont
Please don’t, they’re awful
First like and comment welcome back Mr ali
3 phases off,it wil be a miracle if the cpu or the GPU are still fine
We live in a very predigest World. People very quickly jump to conclusions without any facts to back it up.
That is not a crack, that is a canyon.
Time stamp the video please, the rest of us have no idea what you are commenting on

The one on top of it is cracked
Please repair my innon3d gtx 1660 super twin x2
RAZR not all they are CRACKED-UP to be.
the other 8694 is in half
on my laptop I have "MPNR 8694 1495" I can't find the reference anyone have it?
Take pictures of all donor laptop motherboards for future reference
What would be cool is hires pics that are auto-OCRed then the resulting data indexed. Or get the cataloging done online in India/China !
Do not order until you check after those mosfets. Very probably to have shoted GPU or CPU.
Came in for no power.

i love the end theme song. can you upload the whole song by itself?
Hi
ThankYoU…ءءء
Ahh "repair shops" that can't actually repair stuff. I know component level repair is a particular skill but... surely calling yourself a repair shop means you can repair electronics?
Also.. what's the story with digikey not selling to you?
60 amp! That can't be right. Must be milli amp?
It's at a low voltage
Nope, it's right... Crazy right? Always gets you the first time. That's the absolute max though, normal op is like 10A or so
naw CPU and GPU have very high amp requirements these days, if you think of the voltage around 1.XX and they run at , well for this laptop total probably 100-200 watt then yeah. RTXD 4090 is around 1.05 volts, and runs at 350-400 watts under full load, so yeah you will be needing quite a few drmos outputting alot of amps. and as he said the 60A drmos probably only continuously are used for 10-20A otherwise they would be too hot especially in a laptop, but then again they did crack.
Remember Volt X AMP = Watts
What the heck is running on that 10:18 level? Stick welders don't use that many x 60. Origin of "the big bang theory"!
5 changed to 6 haha
came in for no power
lol
It's why l won't buy new laptops with build in GPU like the high end Nvidia 30 and 40 series that draw lots of power. Even with these laptops, you have to have an laptop cooler.

If you end up with a video like this where you need to wait for parts maybe wait to release it until the repair is resolved and release it as one video?
sometimes he probably gets feedback or people who can send the parts quicker I think

Today I had to order EC IC for HP laptop because it is nowhere else available than china. For those curious why - customer came in with HP 15s laptop, it's 2yrs old. It powers on - blank screen. By measurments etc, board is completely fine and so should be APU. First I tried few bios dumps to see if behavior will change - no change. I prepared bios with forced prog factory mode and it displays picture, flashes internal bios blocks and EC chip, then after reboot it goes dark again. I told customer that last thing I can do is replace EC chip and if that still doesn't make it post then most likely APU is damaged and so far I see no chips to buy, and no spare boards sooo nothing good for customer. I'll do followup comment in few weeks if this thing worked or not.
