    **1st off, thanks for this video. I bought a set of 4 clips to replace the brake pedal and lower clutch pedal but had no idea the clutch had a 2nd one so this video saved me a ton of effort. I thought I was needing a new starter.
    I went to Harbor Freight and bought a $6 tweezer set(long ones) and was able to put the clip in without removing the pedal. It was a bit awkward to pull off but much better than removing the pedal. I just wanted to post this in case it helps someone else.

    After bleeding my clutch, my slave cylinder spring broke. This caused my clutch to fall.to the floor and stop working. After this repair, my cruise control would not work. Searching every video and website, along with all the electrical diagrams etc to not find the issue, I stumbled across this video which had nothing to do with the cruise control. Incidentally, this video pointed out the plastic rubber that fell off causing the cruise control to stop working. Two minutes to inspect and now my cruise control is fixed 🤩. The little rubber behind the peddle must have snapped when my brother got the shits trying to push the peddle down helping to bleed a clutch with a faulty slave cylinder. Thanks for this video 😊 Was about to pay an auto electrician to diagnose a problem that cost nothing to fix 😆.

    This is a REALLY well done video, kudos. It's so tough to get a good shot under the dash. Great job explaining how to fix this problem with minimal investment. JB Weld plus a measly nickel! I've just finished removing the clutch pedal assembly on my 2007 Honda Fit Sport to get enough clearance to allow replacing the EPS electric steering module. I've been working on cars for over 60 years (turning 80 tomorrow) and this EPS job was by far the most difficult job I've ever tackled. You can't see it, you can't reach it behind the fuse panel. Had to remove half the nearly impossible to remove electrical umbilicals from fuse panel so it could be muscled out of the way. That alone took two hours and several beers LOL. Required more skill and patience than rebuilding an engine or manual transmission. Who enjoys laying with your back across the threshold while trying to see up under the dash? What a terrible nightmare. Back to the point of your video, totally agree that removing a Honda clutch pedal assembly is a difficult time consuming job. My assembly is attached with four nuts. The two on the right were not too bad to reach plus you can see them. The bottom left was tougher but it took me 5 times as long as the first three in total to remove the one on the upper left. You cannot see it from the footwell with a superbridht flashlight. An inspection mirror didn't help. The flange the clutch interlock safety switch attaches to makes it impossible to see and nearly impossible to get a 12mm socket on that nut. Plenty of swear words, cobbling together multiple adapters and short extensions and different wrenches to break it loose initially and then switch to a fine tooth ratchet handle. Factory spec for the nuts is 16 lb/ft. I estimate it took at least 50-60 to loosen them. The gorilla in the factory must have cranked his pneumatic wrench up to 175psi. The Honda engineer who designed this to be nearly unremovable should be drawn and quartered.

    Great idea gluing a Nickel onto the pedal bracket where the cheap plastic button was! Epoxy is one of the strongest if not THE strongest adhesive you can buy. It’s available in one minute, five minutes, and one hour setting times. I wouldn’t recommend the one minute unless it’s something easy to get to, and you’ve used it before. I wouldn’t recommend ANY adhesive on piston connecting rods, though!😂Nice vid!!

      You have two switches on a MT car if it has cruise. One is the safety interlock found on all manuals. It only allows starting the vehicle with clutch pedal depressed. An obvious safety feature to prevent unexpected lurching if car is accidentally started in gear. With cruise, the other clutch position sensor switch will disengage cruise as soon as you start depressing the clutch to change gears. I don't think they design cruise to be smart enough to keep the same speed you've set if you for example shift from 5th to 4th as when going up a steep hill. This also prevents overrevving when the clutch is depressed because suddenly there's no load on the engine so revs would soar past redline.

    Thanks for that very informative video. I had a "no start" situation a couple of days ago and thought it was the starter. I had the starter tested and it was fine. Worry time kicked in. I knew it had to be something electrical but didn't know where to start. I'm a Chevy guy and got my 96 Accord as a daily driver to allow work on my Chevys. On a whim I did a youtube search for a "Honda clutch no start" and saw your video. I did see the remnants of the rubber stopper in the floor too. I used 2 pennies and super glue instead of nickels and the jb, so I got my 2 cents worth lol. Everything works fine. I'm 6 feet 8 inches tall and you're right, getting at that clutch is a pain in the a$$. Thanks again for the great tech info.

    First of all I want to thank you to creating and sharing this video. My manual #Honda #Accord won't start for the last few days and after 3 days of root causing and Ubering ($120) to and from work, I finally found this video. What convinced me more was the "bread crumbs" broken pieces of the rubber stopper on the floor mat in my car. Additionally my cruise control doesn't work now. I am going to see if I could fix this myself. Most of the videos I initially came across were mentioned the usual suspects like battery, starter, fuses, relays etc., but not the stopper perhaps because its this tiny part that the average car owner isn't away of their existence. I have liked and subscribed to your channel as a way of saying thank you.

    How to replace the broken rubber without taking the clutch off: 1) cut the finger off a plastic glove. 2) If you superglue a nickel to the end of your plastic glove, and 3) put jb bond on the other face of the nickel, 4) you can get your finger in right where it goes without taking the clutch off. 5) 5 minutes later, carefully pull your hand out of the glove.

    Thanks for this informative video. Because of it I realized that what I thought was the clutch safety switch, was actually the cruise control switch. Driving only locally, I had no need for the cruise control. So, it also had lost its plug and I didn't know it wouldn't work. Both plugs were gone. In addition to those, I had the same problem many months ago with the brake light switch. I have now replaced all 3 of the pedal plugs with bolts. I had a flat bolt with no slot for a screwdriver. I use it for cruise control plug on the clutch pedal. For the clutch safety switch plug, I replaced it with a carriage bolt. I filed the square corners under the head so the bottom of the head would fit flush with the pedal shaft. It works now. Mystery solved.
    My question is why does Honda even use the plugs, instead letting the the switch plunger just use the solid metal pedal shaft?
    Suggestion: If you use a Universal Joint Socket and an extension or 2, you can get to the upper left nut for the clutch pedal assembly much easier. I drive a 2007 Acura TL Type-S. Also, if you use a small stool, about the height of the door bottom, you can get in car and under the dash much easier. I am 66 years old, 6' 1" tall and about 200lbs. It makes the job much better.
    It works now. Mystery solved. Thanks again. And God bless you!

    Just got done putting my clutch pedal assembly back in the wife Honda. Even my son made the comment about the design flaw that you have to remove the pedal assembly to replace the little stopper, the stopper you can access doesnt keep the car from running...
    One tip...the pin that connects the linkage to the pedal has a clip/pin holding it in and in my car it was installed where you can hardly get to it so when I went back with it I reverse it so the clip is on the other side and I can see what I am doing putting it back in.

    • @craigerickson1910
      @craigerickson1910 3 місяці тому

      That pin is designed to go in from the left side with the retaining clip installed where you can see it on the right. There are flats on the head of the pin which prevents it from rotating once installed. It sounds like some idiot installed it backwards. I have no idea how they could manage to install the pin from the wrong side, there's almost no access on the left to install the clip.

    Couple things I learned - 1: taking the front seat out helped tremendously to reach under the dash (pretty easy to get the seat out).
    2: Strongly recommend using a friend with small hands and a short handled wrench to get the switch out rather than taking the pedal out.

    I used a nickel for the cruise control part and a rubber stopper for the actual clutch safety. Pro tip - if you remove the electrical box from the holder and have someone with small hands reach up you won't have to remove the whole clutch to make this repair. It was tight but the hardest part was getting the dang electrical box off the holding piece!

    I'm OK with the paper clip (or similar short) solution. The car I learned on didn't even have such a safety switch. Anyway, the first thing I do whenever I get in the car is to push in the clutch pedal. I won't ever try starting the car without depressing the clutch. Doing so would change decades of muscle memory.

    The JB weld and nickel fix is sturdier that OEM. I imagine they do the blue rubber stoppers to clicking sound when the pedal touches the switches. More importantly, it avoids shocking the switch and eventually damaging it when you push down hard or let your foot quickly off the pedal. Just saw another video where a short piece of fuel hose was slid snugly onto the tab where the blue stopper for the starter switch touches. That also looks like a sturdy fix that should make no clicking sound and provides some shock absorption to protect the switch like the OEM stopper intended.

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  8 місяців тому

      Makes sense. The rubber probably also keeps the impact forces down as well to preserve the switch. Thanks for adding that info!

    Thumbs up for an awesome and informative video!
    I’ve got a 1991 CRX HF which was never equipped with cruise control, but still has both the clutch switches you show in this video. In my car, the lower switch is tied to a shift light (up arrow icon) in the gauge cluster that’s supposed to let you know the best time to shift into the next gear. It basically just lights up in every gear @1,500rpm and is pretty much useless. 🤣

    Great video. I've had 3 clutch master cylinders go bad and the reason was the same each time. One of the 3 bolts holding the housing together had snapped and the Dot fluid leaked out, pedal to the floor with no warning signs at all. I'm wondering if this is a common problem?

    Thanks for the video. My cruise control on 2003 Civic LX manual transmission has a missing stop on the lower switch, so it would not engage. I taped a quarter across the hole now it works. I will put a more permanent with the glue as you have shown. I found the problem by using a meter and checking the voltage and continuing per a Honda Service manual ( The Chilton Manual is not detailed enough ) the with the cruise control module disconnected. The 14 pins were reversed from the diagram so initially the readings did not make sense. Also the module is not locate according the the manual. It is located in front and a couple of inches to left of clutch pedal.

    On my 03 Honda Civic I was able to reach both button locations since both of mine had fallen out and pop both in without taking out the assembly. I bought them from the dealership at a ridiculous $8 per button, but they had them in stock. They use a plastic/rubber substance instead of metal to reduce the chance of vibration damaging the switches so I would be careful about using metal.

    Great video! I noticed the broken rubber piece on the floor, but it turned out to be the cruise control pad. I tried the paper clip trick, but it didn’t crank. My battery is only a few days old and cranked great yesterday. Today, nothing. Lights on the dash turn on, but no luck cranking over. Should I buy a new switch or could it be something else like the starter? 🤔

    • @ktecgarage

      You can use a volt meter to see if the starter is getting the crank signal when you turn the key before you buy one and switch it out. Also try hitting the starter with a hammer. That can unstick to solenoid if that's the issue.

      i did the same. The rubber stopper was still in the top one but wasn't making enough pressure to push the pin in. So i glued a nickel to it as in the video... i didn't remove the clutch. Took a small file and taped the jb weld glued nickel to end of it and pressed it up and on top of the existing stopper and wedged it with the clutch all the way down (put a 60lb weight up against the clutch pedal) to hold in place to dry.

    I have a no crank no start in my 99 civic SI. I put the key in and everything lights up, but there is no crank, and I don't hear my fuel pump priming. Usually there's a "whirring" sound but its dead silent.
    Some people told me its the starter. But wouldn't my fuel pump still prime if it was the fuel pump?
    Some people told me its the fuel pump. But wouldn't my starter still crank if it was just the starter?
    Some people people mentioned it might be a relay. The main relay behind the glove box.
    Or the ignition relay underneath the steering wheel.
    Or who knows. I haven't been able to get my car up and running for a while as it sits in my garage. I don't know what to do, I'm thinking about getting it towed to wherever is willing to take a look at it.

    • @ktecgarage

      It will crank and no start even if the fuel pump is bad. Take the back seat out and disconnect the fuel pump. Connect a volt meter to the two wires in the connect and then turn the key to on. If there is 12 volts with the key on, then it's the fuel pump. If there is no voltage, it's a relay, the fuse, or a broken wire. Good luck.

    I just had this problem happen to me when I ready to warm the car from the cold weather for work and it tryed for a sec then just won't do a thing after that. I was in a panic so started thinking it's not the battery sense it's new and the lights would dim if it's low and hear the starter click. So the next was thinking it's the clutch failed. Looked under realy fast and seen the first switch, maybe it failed. After watching the video and showing 2 switches, I'm like oh no so it's most likely the top switch or both bad. I'll try out the jump method to see if it's the switch or the rubber piece is just rotten out. Mine is a 2009 Honda accord EXL 6 speed manual. Thanks for the video.

    I manually press the switch with my finger while having the clutch pressed in, turn the key, and it still won’t start
    Checked the relays and fuses- they seem to be fine (I can actually hear the relays clicking every time I try to start the car), but car still won’t start. Not sure what the disconnect from the starter switch to the relay is, but can’t seem to figure it out. Any suggestions?

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  4 місяці тому

      Did you try a volt meter to make sure that the starter is getting the crank signal? Could just be a bad wire.
      Also could jump the terminals on the starter and see if it cranks and make sure the starter isn't bad.

  • @VictorRodriguez-nq9xc
    @VictorRodriguez-nq9xc Рік тому

    Hey my guy quick question, I sort of have a similar problem but when I tried turn it on there’s a rapid click besides no crank no start, can this be a culprit for that as well?

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  Рік тому

      Is the clicking coming from the starter? If so, this isn't your issue. Either the starter or the battery is bad. If you have a volt meter check the battery voltage when you crank. If it drops way down when you crank. It's the battery. If only drops a little, I would suspect the starter.
      When this switch goes bad, the starter gets no voltage and it wouldn't click.

    Too late for me, just paid Honda 143.00 to repacle that disentergrated plastic stop! Saw another Utube where a guy used two connected chop sticks to hold the stop in place while pushing it in. It worked!

    I’m having this same issue on my 07 civic si, I tried to do the bypass to see if that’s the issue before ripping the clutch pedal out, and still no start any ideas?

      Listen and see if you can hear the fuel pump prime and watch to see if your key security light is blinking while you are trying to start it. Good luck!

    Instead of taking everything apart, you can also just stick a paper clip in the clutch pedal switch connector.
    Boom fixed for 5 cents, and 2 min

    The top part of the bracket above the safety switch,does it bolt on top on the frame,or it bolts only on the firewall?My clutch it loose and it looks like it should bolt on the top but they’re isn’t any holes in the frame.

      Two studs through the firewall and a bolt above the safety switch.

      @@ktecgarage I thought the same. From what I can see there isn’t a hole in the frame above where you bolt it. Gotta check tomorrow. Thanks for the knowledge.

    What is the name of the switch on bottom and one on top? What is the part number ? I am not sure which one is which I need buy??? Appreciate the answer.

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  3 роки тому

      The top one is called the clutch inhibitor 35710-SE3-A01. Bottom one is called stop cruise 36750-SEA-003.
      If the car starts but the cruise doesn't work, lower switch. No crank, upper switch.

      What tool and size wrench or any special wrench to get?? I can’t get to the top nut with a wrench. Thanks

    • @ktecgarage
      @ktecgarage  3 роки тому +1

      After u get the electrical connections off, turn the tube of the switch counter clockwise with your fingers. The nut on the other side is probably a 12mm, if memory serves.
      Now. If the plastic stopper is gone, the switch is probably good. Just not closing. Don't load up the parts cannon unless you are sure.

      The nut to the front is welded onto the frame. The nut on the switch is not. Mine is an 05 Accord Lx .4cyl.
