I didn't see the hype in Taylor Swift. This year I decided to listen to her discography to see why is everyone obsessed with this woman because she can't dance and her voice it really not extraordinary like Beyonce or Mariah Carey. After listening I wouldn’t say I'm a fan but I did get a better perspective as to why she is so popular. I always heard that she was a great songwriter but I never paid attention to the lyrics. The best way to describe her song is that it's basically short stories. Where she paints vivid images through her songwriting. That style of writing is not for everybody especially not for me but did get a better perspective. She can sing but she is not a vocalist she even stated herself that first and foremost she is a songwriter more than anything who sings her own songs. Also, one thing to keep in mind in terms of her discography its probably one of the most diverse in terms of genre which surprised me. There's one album that you will like more than the other because of this. Thats one of the reasons she has a large fanbase. There's basically different entry points where anyone can be hooked in her music. Also for me, your level of success rarely equals the amount of talent you have to have longevity in the music industry you have to have drive but also smart in terms of the moves you make to keep yourself relevant in pop culture and she has been doing this for 17 years and she just keeps getting bigger. I do think of course she does have a lot of privilege due to being white in america but that only get you so far especially at the level that she is at the moment.

Ppl discrediting Taylor Swift bc of her vocal ability or dance skill [as if her fame is attributed to those elements] always shocked me . Some folks honestly think entertainment value only comes in the form of powerhouse vocal gymnastics and fancy footwork, ignoring songcraft and musicianship, or…you know… actually playing instruments?! Imagine if they judged legends like Bob Dylan, Carole King, or Joni Mitchell by those standards? 😅 Dylan wasn't belting out high notes or busting moves, yet he's a music icon who sold his catalog for $500 million. Who needs dance classes when you've got talent like that? 🤷🏾‍♂️😂

    • @ramonajavier5938
      @ramonajavier5938 6 місяців тому +19

@@AXFN_ you can also apply this to singing and dancing as well those are both great and impressive art forms that an artist can master a lot of people think that an artist who don't write or play instruments are less of an artist which isn't true because there's more to an artist than just writing or just playing instrument or singing or dancing and etc. all those art forms is what makes an artist, an artist shouldn't be define by what they can't do when there are other talents they have and can master art wise if that makes sense but if you have some knowledge about vocals you can say that someone's voice is their instrument like there are incredible vocalist out there who literally can imitate an instrument with their voice which is pretty cool

I agree with this, it's why I am a Taylor Swift fan
The songwriting has been the main thing for me
However she is also really good at not only painting a picture but bringing it to life
On stage she may not have the best vocals or best dance moves but she still is able to entertain a stadium crowd for 3 hours.
From the clothing, to the visual effects, her dance crew & set designers definitely carried a lot.
She knows how to keep an audience hooked which is sometimes more impactful
Especially cause I love Katy Perry yet hate her tours due to them seeming like too much to me.
I love Beyonce's tour better though, it was great all around

The Swifties inner demons have been agitated w this one😭😭
Side note: I also like some of Taylor swifts songs but I’m not gonna pretend like she isn’t redundant. She writes/ sings about the same things that other female artist do. In terms of talent I’m not going to deny that she has it but there are other artist who surpass her in talent just by their voices alone. She appeals to a certain demographic and that’s fine, but to compare her to people like Michael Jackson and Beyonce?? Y’all have to be kidding me.

See here where I think these recent phrases of her being “ over exposed, overhyped, it doesn’t matter!
Just like it doesn’t matter who thinks there are many other singers who have a better voice then TS!
The fact is AND always has been,
coming from TS herself, she knows,
she does not have the best voice.
      But again it doesn’t matter!
Taylor Swift established herself long before her Eras Tour.
So anything being brought up about overexposure, and overhyped, and then in anyway relating it to her success, it’s irrelevant! In every way.
The fact is… there are 100’s of millions of people world wide that do like TS.
The fact is.. that there are 100’s of millions of people that purchase her music in a variety of ways.
The fact is that 100’s ’of millions, purchase her tickets when she announces to her fans first , before anyone else. she’s going on tour.
      In this country and Internationally!
I am not saying that there isn’t any other means used when she’s touring. But it’s only done by her marketing company. That she owns!
My point nothing from West or any other controversial incident, or whatever… makes people by albums, tickets, etc !
People purchasing her music and tour tickets like TS .
That’s it. Mothers who may take their daughters who like Swift to her concerts, with only 11% of her fans base being under the age of 18in this country, are not having any significant impact on TS ticket sales in such away as the ladie in that video was portraying!!!
Those stats were from the last time I looked was May or June 2023. when she was touring,
The reason for looking was because I kept seeing this standard cut down bashing Swift statements on videos of her concerts that fans were posting, saying
Well who couldn’t entertain 10 year olds. Or 12-14. Year olds. Etc..
it started irritating me for the simple fact that I am watching a lot of the fan recorded Eras footage!!
And what they are continually repeating, I wasn’t seeing. So they are making this standard.statement in the comments section, on a video that’s showing the exact opposite!
      LMAO!!!

I am not, nor have I ever been a Swiftie. When she was up and coming I used to make fun of Swifties simply because I was in my “not like other girls” era listening to mainly punk. However - as much much as I’m not her biggest fan, to say that she didn’t work hard on her Eras tour is kinda wild. I’ve never been a fan of her music, but the one thing I could always agree on was how hard she worked.
Before the point that she disappeared for like 2 years, she had been on tour for almost a year straight with no breaks.
We can dissect why she’s so successful all we want, but to say she didn’t earn it or that Kanye is solely responsible for her success is reaching.
And side note, do some more research on that phone call with Kanye - there’s more to that than meets the eye. 😬
    Just my 2 cents 🤷🏻‍♀️

The deal given to her was to buy back an old album for a new one ,, essentially trying to bind her in another 6 album contract. she chose not to do that. scooter has publicly bullied her so she was hurt that a man she helped build (scott-- because lets face it the record label was nothing without her name) would sell it to scooter,, not playing the victim but being hurt because she used to think of Scott as an almost father figure , they were very close . whatever she said , she has followed up with actual proof , something the other person hasn't because they can't. Question: Why debate how much of her success she deserves, we rarely do that with male popstars _[And I’m a guy saying that]?_ What more do people want from Taylor? She’s a singer/songwriter who excels in diaristic songcraft, understands her fans, achieved a seamless transition from Country to Pop with no audience erosion [extremely difficult]. She went head to head with Spotify, Ticketmaster, record labels, and Hollywood, in risks that paid off and made her a billionaire. She consistently sells out stadiums worldwide. Her albums have debuted as million-sellers consistently for 14 years. Biggest tour of all time. Biggest concert film of all time (self-financed). She re-wrote industry rules and outsmarted labels, leaving them scrambling to rewrite contracts after her re-recordings success. I’ll never not champion her beating these corporations at their own game. I can’t even hate. Yet some will downplay those accomplishments or say _“she’s only a success bc she’s white”_ when there’s an endless supply of talented, attractive white artists, male & female, whose whiteness will *never* achieve them the success of a Taylor Swift. Her success, musicianship and cultural capital, have earned her, the right to stand beside Beyoncé or any other icon, because those are her only peers left. 🤷🏾‍♂️

The list of megastars you can compare Taylor’s success to is extremely short now. The Internet and social media altered our habits, attention spans, and contributed to the ‘death of monoculture’ and the fragmentation of media. Big Swiftie here, and I have mixed feelings on this vid. I agree that Taylor’s whiteness and financial status of her parents played an important role in her success - it would be stupid to even try denying that. In a 75% white country, it will always be easier for white artists to connect with the most people. I also agree that the initial Kanye incident was a big PR boost for her, despite the fact she routinely refused to discuss it in interviews at the time.
But you don’t get to be Taylor Swift without serious talent. For her, that’s her songwriting and ability to connect with fans on a personal level. The fact her personal life is so tied into her music makes it all the more intriguing to fans to dissect and decode, driving engagement in ways few artists really capture. To her fans, she’s not an untouchable goddess or an awe-inspiring diva, she’s your best friend, your big sister, *you*, and in an age where people (especially young people) feel so disconnected from each other, that parasocial relationship goes far.
I also can’t say I’m a fan of you painting “Swifties” as a bunch of racists. Sure, there are racists in there, but it’s a group of millions of people, of course you’re going to get crappy ones. Part of the reason Taylor broke up with Matty Healey was because a majority of her *fans* were upset by his behavior, so his is clearly not the prevailing opinion. Tbh I’m really tuned into Swiftie news (hence finding this video 3 hours after it was posted) and I’d never heard of anyone going after Travis’ ex. It’s neither acceptable behavior nor encouraged by the vast, vast majority of fans, same way most of us disapprove of people going after her exes like Jake Gyllenhaal (not Jack Gailenhall).
Lastly, the failure to include that the video Kim released of Taylor approving lyrics was doctored is frustrating. This is a common misconception to this day, but Taylor’s objection was to being called the “B-word”, which I’d think someone who refuses to say the word “bitch” would appreciate more. She never approved that and that’s what her objection was to.
Overall not a poor video, and generally well-researched, but Taylor’s success is complex and portraying it as anything else is disingenuous. I don’t think you even really touched on her folk albums, Folklore and Evermore, which were also instrumental in her being taken more serious as an artist by many people.

How I think she got so big:
    1. Parents were rich and were able to support and fund her rise
    2. Picking the country genre to start in and only later moving into pop so she would have no competition from all the other pop girlies during her rise
    3. Fully exploited setbacks to present herself as a victim/underdog so people felt good about supporting her (being dumped, kanye interrupting her speech, her dancers joining katy perry's tour, scooter buying her catalog)
    4. Being very secretive about her love life but releasing music that constantly seems to refer to it (people love being let in on a secret/solving a mystery)
    5. Cultivating a us-against-the-world mentality so people feel good about joining her fanbase
    6. Being very strategic/creating fomo with releasing music (rerecording her catalog, different versions/colours/remixes) that fans feel they have to collect so it gets her more money/records/spots on the charts
    7. Surrounding herself with lots of other celebs so that celebs fanbase is automatically on her side (dropping them when they are problematic/no longer serve a purpose like Selena)
I personally think she is a very mid musician and essentially not a nice person (petty and vindictive about perceived wrongdoings, calculated and childish) but I am absolutely baffled with how big she has gotten.... But as they say, the higher you climb the further you could fall, people start to call her out for her wrongdoings, like staying silent on the girl that passed away at her concert in Brazil, lying about the kim/kanye phone call, the constant stream of pap articles about her and Travis, etc. I think it's time this sycophancy ends.....

I'm not even a Swiftie when I say this, but this video is ridiculous. First of all, you conveniently leave out the part where the leaked phone call with Kanye has been proven to be edited down to paint TS as a villain, but you go ahead and play into the narrative that she was lying and trying to play the victim. Then at the end of your video, you're basically implying that Taylor is racist because all her fans are "little white girls" who bullied Kayla Brown, and Taylor didn't speak up for her. I don't support any form of bullying for Kayla or racist comments targeted towards her, so if you made a video calling out those comments, I would have no problem with it. However, you're trying to paint this narrative that Taylor is racist for not speaking out when she's not responsible for the actions of other people online and she has a lot going on in her life. Beyonce fans are known for bullying too, and Beyonce hasn't always called them out in the past. Why is Taylor being held to a different standard?
As for why is Taylor so popular, maybe it's because her a lot of people just actually love her music? It's not always, oh she has white privilege and America only cares about white women. If that's so, why have there been countless black female artists over the past several decades who have sold hundreds of millions of records? People aren't racist cause Taylor's concert is more popular than Beyonce. Even if her fans go out of their way to say Taylor is better than Beyonce or MJ, they're allowed to do so and that doesn't make them racist. Taylor's music has qualities that some people just gravitate to more than Beyonce or MJ, and that's okay. If a swift thinks TS is the most influential artist of all time, that's fine. They're not oppressing black people by doing so. I don't think TS is better than either Beyonce or MJ, but I'm not offended if someone does.
It's funny how commentators like you claim to be so against racism that you actually become racist yourself. You keep putting down Taylor's fanbase by calling them "little white girls," and Beyonce's fanbase is apparently more legit cause it's more diverse. First of all, a huge portion of Taylor's fanbase is gay, so let's not erase that. Second of all, the skin color of the artist or the audience does not determine how objectively good the music is, and people are allowed to like whatever music they like without being labelled privileged or racist. Beyonce has sold over 200 million records worldwide (not even including Destiny's Child), and the Renaissance Tour is the second highest grossing female tour at over half a billion dollars. Is that not good enough?

I usually enjoy your videos, but this one needed more research and positivity. I am NOT a Swiftie. However, they actually have a right to be upset with this video. You've summarized Taylor as (1) nothing more than a rich White girl who loves playing the victim role, and (2) her White-girl fans (and racist America) are the reasons why she outdid Beyoncé in concert sales. Is that completely accurate or positive? 😞
You failed to mention that Taylor was VINDICATED when someone leaked the entire video of her conversation with Kanye. That exposed him and Kim as the liars for editing/tampering with the evidence of an ILLEGAL phone recording. Leaving that key information out only furthers the false narrative "Kimye" concocted.
As far as concerts go, Taylor used "dynamic pricing" to sell her tickets. That's the MEGA reason why she earned more than ANYONE on tour this year. Moreover, Beyoncé and Taylor supported each other during their respective tours. Comparing the two in this negative light will only undermine the unity between these powerful women and create more tension between their fans. Viewing your comment section, seems like you only liked comments that disrespect Taylor. Your bias is as clear as day.
This video isn't terrible, but it's not your best either. Just be more careful with your research and message next time. ❤

It's her music & songwriting that connects people...I'm not white or American..yet I feel that connection with her music ever since I was 13 or 14...I'm 27 now...Her music speaks to me that many artists don't connect the same way like she does for me...and I listen to a lot of artists..to stereotype her as a White Girl music...is just redundant...cus she has a diverse audience.. especially outside America...Asia is her biggest Market outside US.

So was this a video on Taylor Swifts white privilege advancing her career, or a video on Taylor Swift being over exposed!
I think the video would have to be factually correct in order to say privilege played apart.
Otherwise as it sits now, the video not being correct with actual facts, and it of course leads to it not being presented in a fair way, because everything that you omitted and some of the emphasis that you added on certain things like how many times, Taylor Swift’s parents were able to travel to Tennessee, like to try to present them that they were just so wealthy that they could do that is leading the viewers to think exactly that. When it’s not really true. Her mom didn’t hand out CDs to record labels. Her mom drove up and down music row, and Taylor Swift at 11 years old, handed out the CDs that she made herself. They didn’t have any inns with anybody. That’s what people do all the time that go to music row. There’s actually documentaries on it of tons of country, artist, etc. who go to music row and do exactly what Taylor Swift did, were they all privileged. So you can see how there’s this almost looks like this effort to present it the way you just said in your comment. So that would be misleading. Just like leaving out the fact that West and Kim lied because if you research that it’s kind of impossible not to also come about the fact that the real audio came out which proved Taylor Swift wasn’t lying, and Westin Kim work. It’s really weird that West was under Braun twice under his label. So isn’t that weird. Here we have West both times interacting with swift, almost trying to railroad or derail her career. And he was under Scooter Braun. Sounds kind of fishy to me..
There wasn’t any misunderstanding with Taylor Swift’s contract. Her team initiated many conversations on purchasing her masters. They would never say no. But they would never put a cash offer up there. OK so no cash offer, but yet you don’t want to tell her no . Why not? Why not just say it wouldn’t be in my best interest as a businessman to sell you your masters. Because that would’ve been the right way. Because big machine records, the revenue, who is 80% Taylor Swift. So why don’t you just say I can’t sell you your masters because you’re 80% of the business. No better person to understand it than her dad right Mr. financer right that’s what he did for a living. He would’ve definitely understood where Horchata was coming from. But they wouldn’t give an answer. They weren’t asking them to tell them who are you going to sell it to. Either say no we’re never gonna be able to make a deal for you to purchase your masters so she could just get it out of her head but yet when she goes to leave and tells them she’s going to sign with somebody else all the sudden on D-Day. They’re offering her this to resign. Let’s do another contract and you can earn back the masters that you’ve already created once that we’ve made hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars off of, you can earn them back. By giving us one new album and will give you one old album know that’s what she said no. But my point is why didn’t they put that offer out on the table when her team of lawyers were trying to negotiate some sort of purchase. I can tell you why. Because they let her hang out there with this hope that if they didn’t say no yet that maybe there was still hope that she could purchase them. And they thought when it got down to DJ that she would be so desperate to own her masters and keep them said they would get her to sign another contract. In the meantime people need to remember one these two men were already negotiating a deal. And Scott Porchetta knew she couldn’t stand him. So not only would he have under masters he would’ve found her for the next however, long time track the sign for it. So if we’re really gonna tell the story, let’s tell the story.

I’m not a diehard swiftie but I would consider myself somewhat of a fan of hers, and tbh saying that she’s famous because she’s white and most of her fans are white is really discrediting her work. I am an immigrant Hispanic 20 something year old woman whose first language is Spanish and I still enjoy her music more than Beyoncé’s or many Latina ‘it girls’ of the moment like Karol G, Becky G, etc. Playing the race card all the time is really getting tiring. People of all different backgrounds and ages like her music and that is the real reason why she is popular. Beyoncé is not less commercially successful than Taylor swift ‘because she’s black’, her music just isn’t as captivating to others. It’s so annoying to always hear the race excuse when it’s really not the case. While Beyonce is obviously extremely talented, her music is not as relatable/captivating to a broader audience and that is the truth.
In 31:09 where you talked about the “diversity” in Beyoncé’s concert, it was all black women shown so I’m not really sure what you mean. The argument that people mainly listen to artists who look like them makes no sense (in my opinion) unless you’re someone who looks up the race of an artist before you listen to them to make sure they look like you. The unnecessary hate Taylor Swift gets is so ridiculous, she really is living in people's heads rent free lol. Taylor would have been just as famous without Kanye. I don't agree with or understand the narrative that she's only "this" famous because she got disrespected on TV, she was literally winning an award with a hit song so that narrative makes no sense, it boosted popularity but everything else was her. I think Taylor is as successful as she is because she is very intelligent business wise, & bc of her music. I guess the credit also goes to PR team as well lol, she's just one of those people with star power as they call it.
I genuinely think she's a talented writer & great with storytelling.. if you haven't heard songs like "no body, no crime" among many others, you wouldn't see it if you only heard the generic songs. There's different ways to be talented musically. You can be great at writing, producing but not at singing/ dancing. Maybe you can't sing well, or write but you can entertain on stage very well etc. Which is why it's not fair to compare her to other artist, because they're ALL different, Although a lot of big artist are overrated in my opinion. It is what it is.
EDIT: You didn't mention how in Kim Kardashians so called "evidence video" that TS was lying, was actaully edited with this whole time, Taylor's released the real audio / story years ago.

She’s very talented. She can’t sing as well as a lot of other artists, but many people who listen to music aren’t looking for the perfect most polished voice. She’s a very talented songwriter, and she’s been incredibly savvy when it comes to creating a community that is invested in her.
The other thought I had, is if Beyoncé did an “era’s tour” no way it wouldn’t be plastered all over everything and just as or more successful than Taylor Swift’s tour. Why the comparison? They’re different artists that do different things.
I get the video essay format, but this didn’t come across to me as a deep dive or a thoughtful retrospective on a topic, but more like a petty take down, which is unfortunate, because the tone took away from any good points you may have had.

Taylor writes ALL her own music so the royalty payments for performing her music are next to nothing compared to other artists. The amount of time the headliner is actually performing, the size of the stadiums AND the amount of shows are all very important. Beyoncé is doing 56 shows and Taylor Swift has 152!! Beyoncé is doing 1/3 the amount of shows. That’s the reason her tour isn’t making as much. Beyoncé is just as idolized by white people where as Taylor Swift isn’t idolized by as many black people. The income difference on their tours has nothing to do with skin color. It’s bc of many business decisions they made differently. 😅This video stumbles in the first 30 seconds suggesting Swift's popularity dipped for a few years. Mainstream media/social media did become more critical of her after the phone call incident, but the perception that her popularity waned is an illusion. It just isn’t reflected in the numbers. She’s been on an untouchable commercial run since 'Fearless' in 08 and it still hasn’t slowed down. In fact it’s sped up.
The VMA incident in '09 did gain Swift new visibility with those unfamiliar, but the reality is, Swift was already outpacing both Beyoncé and Kanye commercially a year before that. Think about that. She was still on the come up as a teen country singer and was already outselling household names 🤯
The phone call drama shifted the social media narrative about Swift, but it was too late, the fans were already locked in. By the time the Big Machine masters debacle shifted the media in her favour again, Swift had already proved she would remain commercially untouchable whether she was a media darling or not. When the media spotlight began dimming on artists like Katy Perry, her fair-weather fans didn’t stick around. Taylor’s did. That’s the difference. I don’t think the industry comparisons to MJ or Bey are that crazy, because the industry goes where to the money is, and Swift brings in record-breaking amounts of money.

So exactly how are people protecting Taylor Swift since West made a fool out of himself and put two women in awkward positions!
He actually belittled Beyoncé by thinking he had to speak for her.
She has been in the business since she was very very young. With the full support of her parents.. ( like TS! )
And no they didn’t have the connections with record labels. When TS convinced her mom and dad to go to Tennessee, it was her and her mom and sometimes her brother.
TS made those CD’s which were covers to Dolly Parton and I believe Shania Twain or Faith Hill songs. And it was TS, who handed them out on Music Row . Like thousands and thousands of other people have. Her mother and brother would wait in the car, she would hand it out and introduce herself. Then they would go on to the next one!
As for Big Machine there wasn’t a Big Machine when Borchetta walked into the Blue Bird Cafe , saw Swift and approached her and her parents.
Letting them know he wasn’t with Universal any longer and was going to open his own label. But could t yet because he didn’t have the financial backing but he was working on it. He asked her if she would wait and sign with him. 2 weeks later TS herself called and said she would wait!
So this entire, picture that I people. keep attempting to paint about her parents buying their daughters way in via money and knowing record labels and people and buying part of the company that barely had enough money to get off the ground , hence her father investing which gave more financial security for it to get off the ground… is basically just that .. an attempt to paint a false narrative.
Which has been going on for years!!!
Weird though how West just kept inserting himself in her career!
Braun…lots of pop stars under him.
    West under Braun
TS. taking over year after year, that sphere of fans in pop!
    Hmmmm … interesting !!
Taylor Swift was 80% of Big Machines Assets/Revenue when she decided to walk! That’s A Lot !!!!
Kinda makes you go hmmmm 🤔

I think you missed a key point in your analysis. Beyoncé has been slowly moving away from the music industry for years. Her last solo independent pop album was Lemonade in 2016, combined with her last tour (The Formation World Tour), then 2 years later, in 2018, she released an album with Jay-Z, which was not as successful as Lemonade in terms of global recognition. Later she released a live album and a Lion King album in 2019, and in 2022 she made her real comeback with Renaissance, which is very different in sound and vibe from what's popular at the moment (not saying it's bad, it's just very unique and it doesn't necessarily appeal to the great masses of pop listeners), and now she's out with Cowboy Carter. Between 2016 and 2022 a lot has changed in the pop scene in general.
On the other hand, Taylor has been rising since the release of Folklore and Evermore in 2020, when she started really showcasing her songwriting skills and embraced an aesthetic that was popular during lockdown. Then she did interviews, Disney specials, performances, she went deep into talking about her songwriting process and the stories she created for the albums, she really marketed that new phase of her career. After that, she announced she would be re-recording her albums with additional songs never heard before ("tracks from the vault"). She released Fearless TV and Red TV in 2021 and Midnights in 2022, along with a bunch of music videos, special guests, new content, etc. The combination of all of it led to a massive tour that appeals to literally everyone. New fans, old fans, lockdown fans, people who liked Folklore/Evermore and didn't have a chance to watch those songs live, people who loved her teen girly songs but were too young to go to a concert back in the day, people who bought tickets to see her Lover tour that was canceled due to the pandemic, literally everyone. Also, through re-releasing old albums, she made her teen songs popular again for a whole new generation of young girls who possibly never heard them. And lastly, in 2023, during her tour, she released 2 deluxe versions of Midnights, Speak Now TV, and 1989 TV.
So, skills and controversies aside, Beyoncé is not as relevant now due to the fact that she took a fairly big break from her solo pop career, and in the meantime, Taylor has been consistently releasing content and marketing herself since 2020 non-stop. As of now, she just released a double album. In terms of personal lives, Beyoncé is married to a huge rapper who has also stepped away from the industry, with his last solo album being released in 2017, and they have children who are also out of the spotlight for the most part; while Taylor appeals to a younger audience as a "single" woman who just started dating a famous football player, still goes out a lot, still drinks a lot, she's still seen out with a lot of famous friends who are currently popular, such as Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Lana del Rey, Gigi Hadid, etc. So, to compare them, you have to also consider the full context of both of their careers and the context of the pop scene currently.

Actually disappointed in this video because I think you are contributing to how women pit other women against each other. I think that Beyonce and Taylor can both be talented women, even though I am actually not a huge Beyonce fan. I think instead of focusing on who is better and more deserving, we can celebrate both of their accomplishments and celebrate the fact that these two women were able to make this happen for themselves in their own ways.
While I do believe that Taylor's race has contributed to her success, I don't believe that is the only reason that she is successful. She is, like Beyonce, a smart business woman, manages to stay relevant and talented (though people don't want to give her credit for it). There is no rule that someone has to be a talented actress, dancer, and singer to be deserving of that level of success. I think picking on Taylor for her past relationships (PR or not), and stating that she is only successful because she is white is doing a disservice. She is a good songwriter, composer, plays multiple instruments, knows how to engage her audience and fans, is philanthropic, and does it all while making sure to lift up others and handling criticism with grace.
Give credit where credit is due.
I think that the way people idolize both of them is ridiculous because they are performers not goods but this felt like the same argument that has been rehashed. I usually love your videos and think they are really insightful but the way that this video leaned on comparing her to another successful woman and dressing all of that up because "Taylor's successful because she's white," is nothing that we haven't heard a million times before. You have also been incredibly defensive and dismissive to anyone who disagrees in the comments. Actually disappointed and will be describing, not because I disagree with your opinion, but because I dislike the way in which you tackled this issue and are responding to those who don't agree.
This is coming from a young black woman that can acknowledge that both women are successful and doesn't feel the need to make everything under the sun about race. We have enough of that shit as it is. Why create more issues where there are none?

Ehh not a fan of this video at all. Taylor Swift is popular because she’s a lyrical genius. She can write music and she’s great at songwriting. There are only a few artists that are that good at songwriting and only a few artists that can activate emotions while listening to their songs. Her songs just bring you to a different world and I feel like she is so empathetic and makes music for the hopeless romantics etc. Most of her songs can bring you back to a memory or time within your love life or etc. For me as a black woman I want to hear love songs. I want to hear romantic, profound, dreamy songs that can bring you to a different element. With today’s music that is 99.9% over sexualized or talking about violence or money it feels nice to have music that can have a calm, intimate, positive, or sad moment. Her songs are the types that you can listen to and it can perfectly word what you thought about in the past. Now yes her parents did help her which I view as a blessing because it showed that their hard work was deserved. Also she makes many albums that continue to be masterpieces. She has a business side as well and was able to own her albums which is definitely a boss move that many artists don’t take. I feel like people try to find ways to bash her and they fail to give credit where it is due. Her music will be iconic for years to come.

She’s relatable not aspirational. Her lyrics are relatable but her flaws/lack of certain talent is also relatable, thus she’s a self insert for her fans. She’s literally “y/n” in every way
America loves an underdog story. Someone to root for. Besides race, Beyoncé isn’t an underdog talent wise, she came out the gate swinging. - Her fans are not just "young girls"
-Travis didn't help boost her fame, try the other way around.
-Swifties aren't racist, and you kinda painted them that way

I really do think Beyoncé makes better music for her demographic. But Taylor Swift is a Marketing Genius. That Swift/Kelce/NFL Colab was historic. Touring during a Super Bowl Run to see your “boyfriend” play and allowing fans to be around you was Epic. That’s one thing Beyonce and Jayz will not do. They partied with actual fans in all the cities including mine, which is Baltimore. That’s a play out of Michael Jackson’s playbook.

I have had multiple convos with my sister about this. We are so confused why Taylor gets a pass for any critique. Sure she built a pretty talented discography and we agree recording her songs is pretty great, but not so great that she isn't allowed to be critiqued. Like artists get critiqued all the time and no one should be automatically immune to that even if there was some terrible things done to her in the past.

First off, i recently discovered your channel, and I really love the way you break these topics down to bite size pieces for those of us listening. Secondly, yes, I do believe Taylor is overrated. She's hyped up way more than necessary. Not to say she isn't talented, but the mentality that she can do nothing wrong is pretty disturbing. I have appreciated some of her past music, but now I just really don't get the hype. IMHO she just sounds like every other genaric singer out there, and Oliva Rodrigo (another overrated singer, i think personally) is able to easily replicate her exact sound, so i think that further supports that there isn't anything super star quality about her voice.
