If there are things about the Old One's Army in the video that I forgot to cover, they will be listed in this pinned comment: Updated for 2024/10/19: - Forgot to test Betsy's Wrath performance as support for Moon Lord - The Tavernkeep's happiness matters too, as that will affect the price they may rebuy items from. - Sentries can easily be stacked by hammering a platform on the ground in the shape of a stair, then by placing the sentry on that stair, it will fall through and land on the ground. For Lightning Aura sentries, this stair platform will need to be placed higher up. - Traps may be not as bad as I made them out to be in the video? (May test in a later video) - Blade Staff is also a good option for Tier 2 alongside Optic and Sanguine. - Bat Scepter is quite a safe option to use against Betsy and her wyverns in Tier 3 due to its homing and decent damage. - Invisibility potion can be used to further reduce aggro. Thanks for watching!
@Kepples Very good video bro! I enjoyed it, might be because I'm one of the few people that enjoy doing the OOA event 🤣🤣. I try to include Betsy from this event in all of my Boss Rush videos 😅
Really good quality video There's some stuff I want to add too. The Gear loudouts: For the Ranger, the snowman cannon is better option than most ranged weapons. It deals high with boss for both boss and enemies and it also has a very strong homing projectile. All you need to do is stand still in the middle with shroomite armor. Eventide requires you to get the enemies on your screen for better accuracy because the projectiles accurate are followed with your cursor, same as xeno popper. For Mage: The Bat Scepter is also safe and really good option against the Betsy when you are using Less-Aggro. It takes abit longer to kill Betsy but the bat scepter can easily clear out her wyvern nearby. (because this enemy deal a lot damage to the crystal while Betsy not) Lastly invisible potion if you wanna stack your Less-aggro even if you're not invisible mode
The King and Queen statues are pivotal in this event! NPC's are really good at fighting surprisingly, with Advanced Combat Techniques One and Two especially. Summoning all your NPC's to your OOA arena is a super fun strategy that is overlooked by everyone! All you need is to hook up the statues to one second timers and they will bring all your NPC's to the battle.
I was strugling with the event at Get Fixed Boy Seed, and well, traps were pretty great even there, on legendary difficulty. They are slowing enemys , for some reasone, which allowed me to deal with them easier. The problem were mostly with Ogre, because i placed EVERY trap that i could find there, that meant that i cant jump without getting hit myself, and t2+ kinda requare upgrading traps for better damage on the enemys. Golem traps with layout of mixing spear and ball trap each tile, allowed more effective stunlock and some nice damage.I think they were able to clear or almost clear goblins on their own. I had some troubles with collecting crystals, before i placed belts, but having empty space below arena allowed for quick looting while waiting for new wave.
@@sufferingincorporatedtm1781 Well Yeah, but i had a lesser understanding of hight requarment so i digged maybe too far up, tho it almost totally countered wyverns later on. And also i wouldn;t be able to collect Mana anyway?
This is the best guide out there, incredibly in depth. Well done! Also I found blade staff to work better than sanguine staff, the ai is just more suited to crowds than sanguine’s ai. But optic and then deadly sphere staff are both much better for crowd control, deadly sphere is great.
Whenever I do the OOA, I always bring a Crimson Rod, Nimbus Rod, and the Clinger Staff. I usually stack all of them plus my first explosive trap on the right side while I manually take care of the left. If I have access to them, I also set up as many non-OOA Sentries as I can closer to the center. Queen Spider Staff is helpful for this part, as long as you remember to place some background walls so they can hit flying enemies.
Asphalt doesn't increase movement speed, it increases your sprint speed cap. If I want to move really fast I would probably opt for dunerider since that gives extra movement speed as well. Betsy's Wrath is also a fantastic combination with Phantasm because the phantasmal arrows have such low base damage, switching off of Phantasm costs 0.4 seconds in terms of time loss for weapon windup, so with the Terra Blade example that would be 1.3 seconds = 13% damage uptime lost vs what can be up to double damage output if you have a middling damage build. Also, for money, you're not factoring in happiness: a maximally unhappy Tavernkeep will buy back the sentries you buy from him at 1.5x the cost. That tier 1 money rate looks a bit better than earlygame no Angler fishing, which is pretty nice. This is a very nice video, especially with the precise arena details and similar. What are your thoughts on teleporting away before wave 7 to force Betsy to spawn far away from the crystal? I find that it can otherwise be hard to consistently keep her on me while still dodging her.
Right, although I can't imagine using Dunerider + Sand over Asphalt would be worth it for many players, but it is available in Pre-Hardmode so that's nice I guess. I probably should have tested Betsy's Wrath with ML setups, I can see why Phantasm would def get a boost even if you reset it's use time after using Betsy's Wrath though. I'm not sure why I forgot to consider Tavernkeep happiness as well since that makes complete sense. Thanks though! I haven't considered that Betsy spawns relative to the player so that could be an interesting strategy assuming the sentries take care of all the other enemies.
The actuated platform/block trick isn’t the only way to stack multiple sentries in the same spot. If you click on the side of a block, it will place a sentry on the ground below, even if there is already a sentry there.
You can also cheese this event via hoiks, which prevent ground enemies from moving near the crystal area. This can make it much easier, though, flying enemies (and I think bosses) are unaffected by this, so, you still gotta worry about them.
Haha, your in-game avatar is excellent! 🔥 I played Dungeon Defender 1 on Xbox 360, so I've always been a fan of OOA. Also, free sentry minions (I'm Lightning Aura sentry gang). I will definitely be referring to this for OOA in future.
17:58 PLEASE MAKE A BIGGER DEAL ABOUT THIS! I’ve used ceilings on a lot of my OOA arenas for a long time, and it makes it so much easier to cheese OOA in challenge runs where it’s hard to even WITH the hoik.
I’ve started a sentry focused summoner playthrough and am currently farming tier 1 at the end of pre Hardmode to save medals for the future. I’ll see what the vid recommends for me.
this is a great guide! i disagree with your view of traps, i found that using 30+ boulder traps (as many as you can fit really), hooked up to a few different timers completely flattened all the grounded enemies. and it's very cheap, since it's just stone and wiring. although i play a lot of mage, so i suppose if you needed to get close to the mini bosses to deal with them, this would kill you immediately. i would only add a few more things - the waterbolt is also very strong pre-hardmode. you can put some walls up behind where your portals will spawn and fill the arena up with bouncing projectiles (even easier if you turn on your ruler). also sentries are very helpful for exploring the world/dungeons, since they can be placed into any room/cave through walls. they're great for fishing too, my go to fishing loadout is a fish power/sentry-summoner build. i guess the same goes for golfing?? idk again, very good video :)
Thanks! I did find the boulder traps to be effective in Tier 1, but wasn't sure about the other tiers. I did some testing with the traps and didn't find they were too effective, but considering there have been a few people now that have had good experiences with traps against this event, there may be something I have overlooked about them.
I didn't include them in the setup guides for Tier 1 since I was keeping it to Post-Evil weaponry, which doesn't include Post-Skeletron weapons. Although they were briefly shown when showing what weapons from Skeletron would be good for this event while talking about traps.
While Blade Staff was also very good against the event, I did find that Sanguine w/Firecracker tended to be more effective for the crowds compared to Blade so that's roughly why I chose to put Sanguine over it. Although Blade was superior to Sanguine when fighting against Ogres, so I should have just included it in the info-graphic alongside the other two minions. My apologies!
I just clicked on this mere seconds ago. If this video doesn't mention how overpowered the explosive sentry is within the event, I'm leaving a dislike. Edit: Good video.

dark mage and betsy arent affected, but ogre is (dark mage is too slow and not beefy enough to push past the hoik, so you can usually kill it)

with the balista sentries you can place a few of them behind the portals so they can never be swarmed.
