I’ve been binge watching Scotty & Saskia videos for the last few days, so video length is no matter to me, but the really short ones leave me wanting more guinea pig action 😃 So I just start a new video 🤣
By far the best Guinea Pig UA-cam channel. Everybody who owns, likes or wants to have a guinea pig should be subscribed. What an amazing rescue sanctuary!
Yes!! I love Saskia’s videos but she really needs a new camera man - I don’t think Camera man is the right job for Scotty’s personality……. Scotty voice is so much louder than Saskia… … makes me crazy I keep having to turn the volume way down.. then back up to hear Saskia..… he rambles and moves the camera too much.. I think this is a great channel and I’m watching these old videos to learn all about taking care of our new guinea pigs..
It's so easy to over feed piggies vegetables...mine wheek at me like I've forgotten to give them any for days...nice try gals but no! 😊 Great video, I'd love to attend but I'm in Cornwall UK, bit of a journey 😭
I love, love, love long videos! I love the rescue, so 20 minutes or more is great for me! Scotty, you're such a doll, I enjoy seeing you on this channel and can't wait to see uploads on Scottys animals! I was checking out March on your site last nite, my birthday is in 2 months and I want a few more tees and who knows what else?!
Scott...this channel is really the only one where I can sit and watch a long video! I never get tired of watching the piggies or listening to the wealth of information y'all include. So no complaints from this subscriber & fan on longer videos😁😍
I dont mind the long videos they are informational. Especially pairing pigs together or the health checks etc Anything that is informative to the pigs care and behavior I love. Saskia does a great job educating us about the different kind of growths and how to take care of them. So I would say an hour is good for me. :) You guys are fantastic.
I would love go to the Fall Festival. It's just in time for my birthday! But I think instead of paying for a cross country flight I'd be happier saving my money so I can send you guys a donation! But I will definitely be there in spirit with you guys!
Saskia - I love you so much, you are so beautiful and I have been watching your piggie videos to learn how to take care of our boy. I clean all the "parts" and nail trims/ear cleaning etc. from your video help. Last night we were having lap time and he smelled poopie and he usually doesn't so I knew where to go for help - LA piggie rescue and Saskia! Thanks for the info. you are a wonderful resource. I ordered some benebac and I'm going to back off the greens a little to see if that helps :) keep up the great work!!!
Oh no he’s still eating his hair at the end lol☺️ 15 mins + is always a good time for pets videos. Especially the ones giving advice and have plenty of cute piggies to show off! 🤗
I'm from Canada and am waiting till I move out of my parents house before I rescue some piggies but I am LOVING your videos in the meantime! And attempting to learn everything I can possible learn about piggies!
🎶 "Salt and Peppa's here" 🎶 😂 I love Scotty's taste in music! 🎶 and movie quotes. 💙 And I've been watching Saskia and Scotty vids since last night almost non stop other than when I was asleep obviously 😂 but yea I love long videos. Great job guys! Thank you! 💜💙💜💙😘😘
What a beautiful piggy! I know I left a comment awhile back, but watching this again, this piggy is beautiful! A whole head of lettuce a day between 2 piggies? I thought I was bad because I give 2 veggie meals, but no way nearly as much, and I have 6 piggies! I am sure that poop will go away if you take away all that veg.
I can’t believe that soft poop guinea pig’s entire butt isn’t discolored…. And wow cannot believe they were giving their piggy one whole head of lettuce every day.. Scotty please speak softer.. every time you talk I have to turn my volume down… then back up to hear Saskia… plus you often speak over Saskia Scotty… #scottysanimals
I have 4 piggies. I feed them 1 romaine leaf per piggie for breakfast and again for dinner. At lunch they get a whole cucumber split 4 ways. They also get 1 or 2 cherry tomatoes once or twice a day. I am aware I am feeding them a little too much veggies but I very closely monitored thier poopies and of the 4 only one is over weight but she has always been on the heavy side and she is my best friend and I can't tell her no. She even tries to put her chin on my nose to show me she's the boss. Coarse when she does that she immediately showers me with kisses if I let her do it.
Its not so much the quantity of food as it is what you're feeding them. I would cut that tomatoes to 1 or 2 a week and give bell pepper daily and its the best veggie source of vitamin C. Tomatoe has a lot of sugar and acid. Also, cucumber I would recommend one slice same as the 🍅, once or twice a week. You can pick other veggies that are better for them that you can give daily like raddichio, parsely, kale. If you can get fresh corn on the cob, save the husk for them, they LOVE it!! You can spread out the leaves on your counter and they should be dry overnight, save in a Ziploc bag. Hope that helps, just wanted to offer some alternative suggestions as I know its hard to ignore their wheeks.
@@mszoomy great ideas, I can't cut the cherry tomatoes because it's Daisy's ultimate favorite treat. She goes nuts over them and understands the word tomato. Daisy is my main piggie, my cuddle buddy and best friend. I love the idea of the other veggies but why cut down on cucumber? They don't have soft poopies and are doing great.
@@Kitty-Marks cucumbers aren't bad, they do have a lot of water in them tho and not a lot of nutritional value. It just seemed like an LOT of cucumber. When I was still giving mine veggies, they got about a 1/2 inch thick slice, cut into 4 pieces and that was shared between the 2. Just remember, you're the brains in the family and sometimes we have to make tough choices for the ones we love, even if that means saying "no". I know its hard, believe me LOL nothing worse than seeing 2 little piggies faces staring at through the bars and giving you this sad little look like they're starving to death!! Check out guinealynx.net or maybe its .com. They have great info on feeding. Give your little snuggle buddy some ear scratches for me. Mine is sleeping on my lap. Have a great night.
Beautiful piggy. Great job on his hair Saskia. I have a texel male, Bennett. His belly is so fuzzy, lol. I give my piggies more veggies than you recommend but only half of them have soft poops. I know not all piggies are the same but it’s a large salad once a day about 8p. If I’m late I swear they are yelling “human mom....time to eat” They are so smart they know I’m chopping veggies downstairs and whether it’s me or someone else coming up the steps.
I love watching your videos! I don’t mind longer videos it goes by fast cause I enjoy it so much then I’m like NEXT VIDEO!!! :D also yess I love your nails Saskia!! I go every other week with my mom :)
You always doing such a great job ! Learning a lot from you and i'm very grateful for that, helps me to understand my Guinea pigs . And i always love your nails too :-) keep the Videos coming !!!
Peppa is so cute with all his fluff! 😍 Any length of video is good for me. More to love and enjoy 😊 but I know that my UA-cam habits are probably not normal lol
I would have made sure that couple understood that regular iceberg lettuce is terrible for piggies, its just water. One of my girls started getting soft 💩 but nothing that bad. My vet has her on probiotics and had me take her off all veggies & fruit for a week. Then I had to slowly reintroduce one thing at a time to see if I could pinpoint what was setting it off. So far the only safe food is bell pepper, and cilantro. Kale, romaine, carrot, strawberry all set her off. 😞 so now she and her cage mate just get a small piece if pepper in the am, a but of cilantro at night. I also use my coffee grinder (no coffee) and grind up an Oxbow Dig.Sup. tab, an Oxbow But.C tab and a few pellets. Then a mix it with a bit of water to make a thick paste and give it to them. They think its the greatest thing ever!!
Piggy lover for life! I can attest to the benevac product too..works great especially if your pig has been on antibiotics..hope to see you all at the festival! :)
I'm a bit confused on the vegetables bit... Everyone seems to have a different idea on it. I usually give a cup or two, usually veggies like celery, lettuce, green pepper, maybe a couple of baby carrots (Really whatever veggies I have left over). And suggestions on how much to feed anyone?
She's on Facebook under Guinea Pig and Friends Sanctuary. She's located in Caldwell Idaho. Thanks to you I have learned how to take care of teeth and so much more, have bought the materials needed, and saved her tons. Everything she gets is from donations or adoptions, so I'm doing all I can to help her, and make others aware. Thank you for all you do. You have helped us a ton just by showing how wonderful you are.
If you have a Tractor Supply near you or any feed store they should carry it, even if its not the same brand name, just compare percentages. One brand might be 25% ivermectin while another might be 5% for example. It depends on what you're giving it to, horses, cattle, goats, chickens, dogs etc
Oh that fluff! You could have stuffed a pillow with that! Peppa is so cute! And the videos--the longer the better! And I'm glad you mentioned Ivermectin. I have the same kind you use at the rescue. How often can you dose with it? My 2 boys can't seem to kick this case of mites.
When using it as a preventative you can dose them 4 times a year. As a treatment I always dose once a week for 4 weeks. But to kick start I dose twice in the 1st week. Within 5/6 days you should see soft fluff begin to grow back. I also always shampoo with a medicated anti-fungal shampoo like Davis Miconazole to kick any fungus in the butt as these two issues often go hand in hand. link to the shampoo amzn.to/2Roe1aA If the animal is really itchy and in a bad state then do NOT shampoo yet, wait a week or so for the ivermectin to kick in. It will be too painful to be handled and bathed otherwise and may increase itch induced seizures .
Hello I don't mean to bother you..but I have a question I have a guinea pig named Cody, and for as long as I've had him he's never gotten along with other piggies...when I first got him he was in a corner and any piggy that tried to get close to him he would attack.I got him and after a week I showed him pictures of guinea pigs and he tried to attack and bite my phone for some reason...I tired guinea pig noises and he would teeth chatter..me and my dad gave him a friend and he HATED him...we tried 9 months and Cody still tired to attack sadly we had to give the other piggy away .I tried to introduce him to my friends to guinea pig but he almost killed them...I'm not sure I should give him a new friend and try again...but at the same time I feel like it wouldn't be a good idea...He's GREAT with humans(at least with me) but with other guinea pigs he's just to terrible! What should I do?
I like to call piggies like him "socially awkward" and they are really tough to pair up. Giving pigs like him a 3-5 week old baby boy always work because they do not feel threatened by a baby and have nothing to get upset about. Adult male guinea pigs are NEVER aggressive to young babies as long as the baby is no older than 5 weeks or so. I wrote an article a while back called "Bromancing" - here it is Bromancing ( or male guinea pig introductions) By Saskia Chiesa, Director Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue I just got an email asking for tips to a successful boar introduction. Since this is a topic that comes up all the time I decided to write a detailed answer and share it with you all on Facebook. I have no magic tips. This is a mixture of hormones, personality and how those energies work together. That is what determines the outcome. Online there is a lot of talk about neutral space (guinea pigs are not territorial) and clean cages (only matters if the cage housed females right before) but to be honest I don’t think any of that matters. They either get along or they do not, there is no influencing that. What does help is make sure they have a large space for the intro. If they are cooped up in a small intro space they are likely to become irritated with each other and with certain personalities too small a space will likely make them fail to get along. If a male is Alpha and has a high sex drive (usually the males under 1.5yrs - lots of purring and humping) then you want to try and make a match with a male that is the opposite. The opposite would be what I call “Buddha Pigs” and are the ideal companion for any boy. They do not get bothered by a lot. They don’t take offense when the other pig sniffs, humps and rumbles and chatters away. And doesn’t feel the need to do any of those things himself. He remains Zen in the face of an annoying and relentless humper. Those two would be the exact opposite of each other and of course there are a lot of degrees of behavior in between. It is not a science and I make my decision whether or not the boys may or may not be a match by feeling their “vibe” together when we do the intro. We can usually tell in the first 5 minutes if a match is likely to work out, however, every now and then happen boys may appear to be a match but will decide a week later that they are not going to get along after all. Babies (between 3 weeks and 2.5 months) are almost always a match. But when that baby becomes a teen and the hormones start raging they may take issue with each other. Although humpy teens usually get better after 1.5yrs old. So if there is no fighting but the teen is just annoying the other with humpy behavior then it may be worth sitting it out. Lastly if they don’t get along but you love both pigs and don’t want to give up either of them the next best thing is to have them living “apart together”. This can be achieved by dividing the cage so that they can touch noses, smell and see each other. You will even see them snuggling and sleeping right next to each other with the divider in the middle. They just cannot be together. The minute you remove the divider they will act like this is the 1st time they have seen each other and go right back to where they were they left off before the divider was put in. There are exceptions of course but usually this is how they respond. When going for this option make sure that the individual space for each guinea pig is large enough. Single pigs need about as much space as pairs. 2 x 3ft would be the minimum recommendation. Coroplast made cages would work really well for this purpose. Good luck with the Bromancing!!
@@LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue but see when we introduced the other piggy to him he was 4-5 weeks old...he would make sure the little piggy was far and if he got to close would teeth chatter after he got older tho he started to attack...I've considered giving him a female frend but I heard guinea pigs make babies very fast and I don't really want so many little pigs...but I wouldn't want to get to attached and give them away either...at this point I'm very sure I'd like to keep him alone since he's always been happy and cheerful...He's a very normal snd healthy piggy...but at this rate we can't anything to work...but thank you still for the information...though for now i think ill let him be to not stress him so much ^-^
A good way to keep a long haired pig cool is to give them a close (partial) shave. My long haired pig panics when I come anywhere near him with scissors but he will let me use a mini pet trimmer with minimal complaints. He might just be an odd pig but it's a lot safer as there is no risk of cutting him as I could seriously injure him with scissors. At the start of the summer I shave his bum, back legs, downstairs and tummy leaving the hair to fall over his bum like a skirt. It's also a great way to clean a really dirty grease gland as you can quickly remove matted hair and the grease all in one go.
Yeah, that works great too. My pig (Frodo) has a habit of sitting in his wee, so I really don't want him to get flystrike in summer. He's a strange little man- he freaks out for scissors but is happy to let me give him a very intimate shave. You'd have to be careful with the clippers you buy of course, but with mine there are no exposed blades even without the guard. I tested it on myself first and it is very gentle and not very noisy.
I really want to come cause I adore anything guinea pig but sadly my last two guinea pigs died. They were my first 2. Then I got got two more and they mated and had three babies. We gave the mom and daughter away so now we have three(the dad and two sons ) sadly we live in South Africa,Somerset West, Cape Town
Hi my guinea have really soft poops that she steps on them and make it like it clay It's it normal for my guinea pig not poop when I give her bene bac?
I feed my pigs each half of a carrot, and a bunch of leaves (spinach, usually) and sometimes some other veggies, along with the usual kibble. I guess I’ll need to give a little less! Thankfully they don’t have soft 💩 or anything like that yet!
Alina Nechiporenko just a word of advice from experience, I’d cut back on the spinach! spinach can have a lot of calcium, and that causes bladder stones or kidney stones. I know this, because my guinea pig got a bladder stone. Symptoms can be squeaks of pain when peeing or pooping, and there can be blood. In my case, my guinea pig bled when he peed. In his case, I was too late in noticing, because I didn’t know what it was. The bladder stone was too large for him to pass on his own, and the surgery was too costly, so I went home and cried about it. He was given some pain medicine to take for 14 days, and then after that I thought about euthanizing him, but he died a few days later. It broke my heart that he had to go that way, but he’s in a better place now with his buddy! I shared this story, because I don’t want another guinea pig owner to go through that, so just thought I’d give a word of advice.
There's bene-back plus in powder form but I'm not sure if the small tubes are better? My boy has had softer poops before & I try giving less veggies when this happens. I load his cage with hay & pellets. Is there any other advice that you can offer? Thank you in advance!
Hi guys. I need your advice please. How much Bene-bac for a piggie on antibiotics? Pea size amount? And if he’s having his antibiotics morning and evening, when should I give the Bene-bac to him?
Please can you let me know how often I should give my 2 girls bene-bac. One was spayed due to bleeding 4 weeks ago and the other had a fractured top front tooth, which later broke off and hasn't regrown, and needed antibiotics for 30 days in July. They were both over 1000g but have dropped to 830g. I have been syringe feeding the one spayed but the vet told me to stop and let them eat by themselves, which they do but I'm not sure why they aren't gaining and keeping the weight on. I therefore have had to restart the feeds as I'm worried they will fade away if I don't. I don't know if the syringe feeds are making them too full to eat for themselves properly. Not sure what to do for the best.
You can give Benebac 2x daily and unlimited hay and pellets, also feed extra harder veggies like carrot, pepper, corn to try put weight. If they don;t eat enough than yes syringe feed, but syringe feed 30 minutes after their regular meal, that way it will be extra and not a mean meal.
How long does it take for a poop to become not soft anymore? How long should I wait to take her to a vet? I am using the poop of the other two guinea pigs to make probiotic for her until I get the bene-bac on Thursday. Should I taker her off all veggies or just most? I think the other two piggies did not get soft poop because they love their hay and eat way more hay than her. It happened after I picked a huge pile of orchard grass after a winter of not having any.
Mine are soft but not like that, they still keep it’s form, but when I press on it, it is a little soft.. should I cut down on the veggies or is something wrong / take him to the vet?
Whoever will rescue him should try a 1ml a day liquid vitamin C regiment, hind paralysis can be caused by scurvy. Can also be that the pig was dropped or fell off something. They can also regain the sensations in the hind end spontaneously after a couple weeks of an accident but one shouldn't count on that.
He's so beautiful!! 😍 my Texel has a sensitive digestive system, she is really intolerant to Apple's and peas, even like pea meal in pellets! I wish I could keep her bum that long, her side's stay ling but she has mobility issues so her bum needs cutting really short to keep her hygienic otherwise she gets damp :(

Hahahaha. So funny😀
I have been over feeding my pigs so much veggies. Now she is soft pooping horribly. Thank you so much for this
I can watch ya all day😍😍😍
The longer the video, the better.
Hi Saskia. Can you tell me where can I buy the soft stools medicine? Thanks so much.
See I wish I was close enough to you guys to volenter
I'm a bit confused on the vegetables bit... Everyone seems to have a different idea on it. I usually give a cup or two, usually veggies like celery, lettuce, green pepper, maybe a couple of baby carrots (Really whatever veggies I have left over). And suggestions on how much to feed anyone?
X X I just did a video on the amount of feed needed by a guinea pig. Have a look ua-cam.com/video/l4ZIh4t0WqM/v-deo.html&lc=UgylGJde92_ZjaVSoAt4AaABAg
p.s. love the color of your nails this "wheek" and videos are good at around 10-20 minutes but as long as you have something good to say
Love info videos i could watch for 20 mins lol
Where can I get the Tube of medicine for them
The CBD?
No offense but I’m positive Scotty annoys saskia lol #shesthepro #letherbe
Can I please get the link for the ivermectin? I can't find the drops you use anywhere and I'm trying to help get our local rescue set up like you are.
Here are the links
IVERMECTIN DROPS amzn.to/2NUkRXc
IVERMECTIN PASTE amzn.to/2NReUuq
CBD Cream www.ebay.com/itm/123280321497
And great job on setting up the rescue! Where are you located and what is the name so others will know too?
Thank you. I'll look into that. It needs to be the lowest dose being guinea pigs. But I'll see what our local places have.
How often do we give them a shower?
You want to do at least twice a year but on the whole we recommend once every month
Ooops once every 3 months
Thanks.
I can probably watch a 24 hour livestream of this. Haha
Question for Scotty. Please can you direct me to the large tube of Bene-Bac you mention. I can't find it on your page. Thanks
Here it is amzn.to/2DxAQ8e
He looks like a skunk omg 😆
How often do you give ben a bac to a guinea pig with soft poop ?
Hello I don't mean to bother you..but I have a question
I have a guinea pig named Cody, and for as long as I've had him he's never gotten along with other piggies...when I first got him he was in a corner and any piggy that tried to get close to him he would attack.I got him and after a week I showed him pictures of guinea pigs and he tried to attack and bite my phone for some reason...I tired guinea pig noises and he would teeth chatter..me and my dad gave him a friend and he HATED him...we tried 9 months and Cody still tired to attack sadly we had to give the other piggy away .I tried to introduce him to my friends to guinea pig but he almost killed them...I'm not sure I should give him a new friend and try again...but at the same time I feel like it wouldn't be a good idea...He's GREAT with humans(at least with me) but with other guinea pigs he's just to terrible!
I wrote an article a while back called "Bromancing" - here it is
Bromancing ( or male guinea pig introductions)
By Saskia Chiesa, Director Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue
I just got an email asking for tips to a successful boar introduction.
@@LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue thank you so much for this information ^-^
@@LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue but see when we introduced the other piggy to him he was 4-5 weeks old...he would make sure the little piggy was far and if he got to close would teeth chatter after he got older tho he started to attack...I've considered giving him a female frend but I heard guinea pigs make babies very fast and I don't really want so many little pigs...but I wouldn't want to get to attached and give them away either...at this point I'm very sure I'd like to keep him alone since he's always been happy and cheerful...He's a very normal snd healthy piggy...but at this rate we can't anything to work...but thank you still for the information...though for now i think ill let him be to not stress him so much ^-^
Love long videos
when she said a whole head 🙃
A good way to keep a long haired pig cool is to give them a close (partial) shave. My long haired pig panics when I come anywhere near him with scissors but he will let me use a mini pet trimmer with minimal complaints. He might just be an odd pig but it's a lot safer as there is no risk of cutting him as I could seriously injure him with scissors. At the start of the summer I shave his bum, back legs, downstairs and tummy leaving the hair to fall over his bum like a skirt. It's also a great way to clean a really dirty grease gland as you can quickly remove matted hair and the grease all in one go.
You can also give them a heavy/thick floor tile to lay. The tile will stay cool and comfortable
I tested it on myself first and it is very gentle and not very noisy.
this length was good
;)
I really want to come cause I adore anything guinea pig but sadly my last two guinea pigs died. They were my first 2. Then I got got two more and they mated and had three babies. We gave the mom and daughter away so now we have three(the dad and two sons ) sadly we live in South Africa,Somerset West, Cape Town

I love long videos 💖💖💖💖
Scotty. Please fall back with your commentary. Please man. Shine as much as you want on your channel but don't ruin hers. Your stressing us out !
Also, Scotty, you interrupt and talk over Saskia. So rude! Keep your your banter for your channel.
30 minutes is usually tops for me. Also, why not use clippers (#10) for cutting hair? Just curious.
I shared this story, because I don’t want another guinea pig owner to go through that, so just thought I’d give a word of advice.
stormiixx Thanks! We’ve already given them less, but I didn’t really know why we should.
stormiixx thankfully, our pigs have nothing close to those symptoms.
@@AN-ou6qu please don’t wait till there are health problems before cutting back on the spinach.
Give the Benebac Approximately 45 minutes after giving the antibiotics.
I love long videos❤️
Het is een Texelaar, van het Wadden eiland Texel in Nederland.
Mercy, does the camera man never keep quiet? I watch these to hear Saskia. If I wanted to listen to Scott I would go to his channel!!!!!
I have a texel that I rescued a few days ago and he’s all matted around his bum, he bit me when I tried to cut them off, what should I do???
Also I have fresh oregano, lemon balm, chamomile and thyme growing around me, would any of those help with the soft poop? Any other herbs?
do it do it do it, lol
So adorable! Love your videos! Could watch Saskia and the piggies for hours!
One head of lettuce per day. Lucky piggies. 🐹 🐷 🥬
The piggies always look like tiny Beatles wigs after a haircut.
My piggies poops arn't that soft, they are quite wet but still hold shape, is this okay?
I was wondering why people don't feed more grass I feed a lot to mine
Anyone have a link for the Bena-bec? I cant seem to find it anywhere

I'm scared to do bore cleaning bc I don't want to loose my piggies trust Dx
Have you ever had a paralyzed cavy? There is one in Sacramento Petco that they are giving away for free. :-(
Hind leg only?
@@LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue yes both hind legs and they said he drags himself and is otherwise healthy. He is posted on Facebook.
I wish I could keep her bum that long, her side's stay ling but she has mobility issues so her bum needs cutting really short to keep her hygienic otherwise she gets damp :(
This is her channel not his
