The First 5 Calves of the Season - Calving 2019
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 кві 2019
- After a short blizzard, followed by warm temperatures, calving season kicks into gear and 5 calves are born on the ranch.
One calf born during the storm requires some extra help warming up as we go from 0 to 60 in no time flat.

Join us on our journey as we leave a life in corporate america to come back to Wyoming and help on the family ranch.
Our Wyoming Life features our Wyoming ranch and our ranch family. Giving you a look into the workings of ranching from raising cattle to raising and harvesting crops. Erin will join you weekly out of the garden, showing you how she helps provide for our family through growing produce and selling at local farmers markets, and Mike will take you along as he tends to the animals and land of ranch, from calving to fencing to planting and harvesting hay.
Fireball is the perfect name for a a beautiful red calf.
I agree, thank you - Mike
Through the years of ranching I have found out that if you find a calf born in cold weather not shivering you ate in trouble the body core temperature is to low shivering is a good thing. In the warning sheds with cement floors lay down a old remnant of carpet the calves can stand on that while staying where it is warm.mine is a 15 foot by 15 foot peice works nice. Thanks.
Very nice, thank you - Mike
Thumbs up for Colt and the name Fireball. :)
Thank you - Mike
Here’s to a healthy ‘19 calving 🍻
No kidding, thanks Zach - Mike
Ever since I was little I was allowed to name every single calf, we don't use tags. Every cow earned her name and every calf was given one as an identifier. I knew no matter what, I had no say in who stayed and who would leave the farm and giving them a name was a special thing for me to be able to feel like they were apart of the family before they left. It was always bittersweet but even 10 years on I can remember them well.
People saying don't let the kids name them, it's disheartening to hear that. Kids can understand the reason for owning these animals all the while still loving them whilst they are there.
Great video kids learn so much about life when raised this way
I agree! Thanks - Mike
That reunion between #152 and #2 was amazing! Take care.
Thanks for sharing .. keep them coming
Off to a good start, Mike! Great save with No. 2. I hope everyone's luck holds for the rest of calving season.
Awesome once again. Glad ya'll weathered the storm and the calves are flowing.

Long time watcher. First time commenting. I like this video and especially the one with your daughter driving while you’re looking for calves. Something about the way you’re making videos is making them more interesting to watch. Thanks

God bless you and the family, including the animals!
GREAT STUFF! Please give us an update on #2. I just hope the weather treats you better. Keep these coming.
Thanks for sharing.
I agree animals deserve a name. Our boys enjoy giving our calves and pigs names. Even if they know that in the end the animals will end up in the freezer.
Also on my point of view it makes the children feel included.
Happy calfing
Stay safe 👍
It is a great way to make the kids feel included and yes they definitely know the purpose of the animals here on the ranch. Thanks for watching! -Mike
Another awesome video Mike
It is so neat to see the baby calves being born on video!!

Thank you and thanks for watching Billy - Mike
thanks for sharing the video
Thank you for watching Jim - Mike
You have the most amazing life live it to the fullest mike
Thank you Jesse - Mike
As I watched this , my thoughts race to the sight of Nebraska, Iowa and surrounding areas who lost so much during those catastrophic floods and the wiping out of farms that have been in families for generations and the destruction of their herds. you are truly blessed to have escaped such a fate. My prayers for your family and those who have suffered so much lose.
I agree fully, thank you - Mike
Mike thanks again for the video! I have been helping with calving for most of the weekend! While its great to see new calves on the ground it can be tough with making sure all calves are healthy, all calves have gotten Colostrum, and keeping an eye on cows and especially heifers getting ready to calve. Hope you made it through the blizzard this week okay and all is good and hope calving season goes well!
Thank you very much, been busy thats for sure. Thanks Jay - Mike
Awesome Mike. You done good by the ranch and that calve. 👍
Thank you - Mike
Good Sunday morning Mike another good video with calving season going on and fireball is a perfect name for that little red Cow and it almost 90 lb that's a good size calf no wonder the little fella was having trouble but he had Mike to the rescue thank you for what you do keep up the good work have a great day and a good start to your week during this busy time of year be safe
Seems like the big ones and the small ones. Thats my hospital service. Thanks Ernest - MIke
Great video Mike
Thank you very much - Mike
Wow, dropping like flies for a few minutes there!!!
Another great video, a very necessary part of farming, very rewarding
Very true, thanks Tony - Mike
Registered cattle are all named.........Fireball is a perfect name for that bright red calf👍🏼
My parents always let us name a few standouts......like “Big Boy” who weighed 135 pounds and was our first ceasearen.
Rosey 2 cause her Mom was Rosey. Naming is something the children can do to feel part of calving.
Great video Mike.....I used to get used carpet remnants from a flooring store to spread on the concrete in the shop for calving. It was great for calves and I would just take it to the dump after it wasn’t needed any more.
Perfect, love it, thanks Fiona - Mike
Great Video Mike and good luck with calving. Hopefully the weather holds out, we have been getting hit with a lot of snow here in Laramie!
We do have more snow on the way, but we will deal. Thanks Ty - Mike
Yet another good video
Thanks for watching! -Mike
I think naming is a good thing and congratulations on your newborns
God bless you and prayers for you and your family..😎

Jo Jo in VT

Thanks Callum - Mike
Beautiful calves...looks like its going to be a good season for calves on the ranch...Lincoln is a cutie pie! Erin love your recipes...❤
Thank you Sharon and have a great day! -Mike
I always enjoy your videos. They remind me of my time with my grandfather. My grandfather used to raise a few beef cows just for his family and hobby. I named a few when I was little, and I still understood that one day they wouldn’t be there any more. Gramps taught me it was about respecting your animals no matter what their jobs were, even if it was for food one day.
Very good lessons, thanks Roy - Mike
Great video...yup you are definitely into calving season...we are almost done up here ...17 to go
Awesome, thank you for watching - Mike
enjoyed the video..thank you
Thank you JOdy - Mike

Thank you very much Everett - Mike
I love that name. God bless
Thank you Thomas - Mike
Calves are beautiful. Good luck for the rest.
Thank you - Mike
I have to say it.....Great job!
Thank you Kathy - Mike
Good morning to you. Love the calves.
Thank you - Mike
Another great video! Reminds me of a little guy born last year on a 5° morning. Had to bring him in the house and she wouldn't take him back. Had to bottle feed and he lost his ears a few weeks later. That was Buddy Boy.
Oh wow, thanks for sharing John - Mike
I know how important animals are in our 4H programs here in Ohio. They learn about breeding, raising, showing and receive awards and scholarship s for doing so. You have a very sweet family Mike. Your drone footage is really nice too.
Thank you very much - Mike
Great job with calf number 2 Loved the way his mother rushed over when you brought him back to her.
Congrats Mike! They sure are cute!
That they are, thanks - Mike
We had our first calf born 2 weeks ago. Smallest calf I have ever seen. 35 pounds at the most. Hence the name Little Peanut. Love all of your vlogs.
Oh wow, that is little. I am dealing with a 42 lb calf as we speak. Thanks Donna - Mike
Fire ball can’t be stopped...ironically name voor the calf en the calving season👍🏼🙌🏼💪🏼🙋🏻♂️
Thank you very much - Mike
Cool video!
Thankyou Wendy - Mike
I love that wide open space. This is from a city boy.
Thank you Adrian - Mike
they always wait for the coldest day to have a calf, you can almost bet on it
neat video
Woohoo, and here you go
yes, hold on :) - Mike
I added LED light bars to the top of my Ranger this year for checking cows at night. Great investment! No more big floodlight to handle. Just a suggestion. Really enjoy your videos.
Mike added LEDs on the top of the Gator in a previous video.
I think the gator needs light bars on all four corners. Don't think any calves will escape from the night sky with that. Keep the calving season videos coming, because they're very informative!
Funny story but I have alread had the sheriffs dept called because a car going by on the highway claimed I blinded them. Thanks for watching - Mike
Some more calves ! Yay!
Thanks Connie - Mike
Like the Dewalt toolbox
You are reading way more into this change of barometer vs calving than is real. But it makes good video and there is a connection in research.
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17004080
Thanks for watching - Mike
So unlike Bart Simpson, you're not saying; "Don't have a cow man!" Your saying; 'You had a calf mam?'
hahaha thanks John - Mike
To life!
Agreed, thanks David - Mike
Awesome, hope big boy is doing better and now fireball can play big brother to the little ones :)
That he will. Thanks James - Mike
I hear you... the struggle to keep everything going for your kids hoping they will come back to the farm.
Thats the truth, thanks - Mike
A calf jacket can be a big help to keep a calf warm with the weather changes in the first few days of life.
and fun to get off them too :) Thanks - Mike
Was wondering how y’all faired with that storm. Glad y’all are ok happy calving
Thank you very much - Mike
seems a very rewarding process, much more then youd get in an office job regardless of pay
I can agree, after doing both, thanks - Mike
my first time here (Québec,Canada )
4:24 does he have AirPods in? 😂
They are wired headphones. Listening while I work. Thanks for watching -Mike
Looks like some new rib eye steaks! Lol
Thanks for watching! -Mike
we got 2 inches of rain over here in montana
Wow, and that storm is still moving. Thanks - Mike
Mike great job all around rescue, physical therapy and reunion and filming it for us to witness..... Break out the cigars (question; can you explain the tagging rules state requirements and numbers)
Thank you Peter, actually there are no requirement for us yet. Thanks - Mike
If you wnat more hay you need to firtelize the filds or give it more minerels so the graas can grow.
He needs water in the summer.
My grand kids always name the new sheep and hogs. And they know why we are raising them. They named one of the new pigs Bacon. Not bad for a 5 year old.
We just got our second calf today and this was from an angus i bought about 2 months ago, my dad went in the pen to pull the calf into the shed the cow was in and almost found out the hard way that she is very protective, she charged him and she slipped so he made it out of the pen just fine.
Wow, glad you are ok :) Thanks for watching - Mike
You need a calf catcher ! It attaches to your gator or quad keeps you safe from the mother cow carry’s your tools and can catch older calves easier
God bless you let them kids name their cows if they want
We just had our first calf a 6:00 this morning
Very cool, thanks - Mike
Dude have you ever been to cody Wyoming i think your closer to it
