Hi Mike - I discovered your channel about a week ago and have had a hard time breaking away from it ever since. I lived with an uncle in rural East Texas for 2 summers in the early 60's while my mother was very sick. I was given my share of chores so that I wouldn't feel left out, since my 2 older girl cousins also had theirs to do. I loved it, and the experience has had a profound effect on my life ever since. In the summer of 1971, between college terms, I worked as a hired hand on a rice farm near Katy, Texas. The work was physically demanding. And my boss, the owner, had high expectations. But he was a great guy, and I worked hard to please him. The situation with the unpredictability of your hay harvest is frightening. How you can compete with ranchers in my part of the country, where aggressive strains of spreading grasses can be harvested multiple times each year, escapes me. Like so many others, I am in awe of your drive, enthusiasm, and wholesomeness. I wish you the best.

I recall I had a Welsh aunt who had a cider mug and on it was written:
"Let the wealthy and great, roll in splendor and state, I envy them not I declare it.
I eat my own lamb My own chickens and ham I shear my own fleece and I wear it.
I have lawns I have bowers I have fruits I have flowers. The lark is my early alarmer.
So Jolly boys now Here's God speed the plough Long life and success to the farmer."

Great video. I just bought four bred black Angus beef cows with two bull calves to mix in on this dairy farm. I'm slowly getting a beef herd and I'm starting very slowly. I'm crossing my Holstein heifers with a beef bull to get hybrids of the two. New experience for me. But I'm doing everything to protect this century farm.

Thanks for being such a great promoter for agriculture. The Dairy industry is really taking a hit here in PA. 4 farms in my family alone have had to sell out, family farms that have been in operation for generations. "Big Government" is killing the small farmer and a whole way of life here. Our county fair (Crawford) used to be the largest agricultural fair in PA (on a county level) and believed to be in the eastern states. When I was in 4-H there were over 600 4-H & FFA dairy cattle entries alone, not including open class entries. Now they can barely get 200 total. It's heartbreaking.
