I feel like The Midnight Special picked up where shows like The Ed Sullivan Show left off. Showcasing musicians that are considered legendary, and performances that are considered historic today. Thank you Mr. Burt Sugarman for contributing to preserve music history.
This one hour show is about the best example of country music as you will ever find. It does not feature all of the genuine country stars, but it embodies the "soul" of country. It is truly priceless!
Holy shit, this might be the single best episode of Midnight Special ever! This isn't really even my main genre not by a long-sight, but the concentration of legend-level talent here in one show, the one-after-another legend-tier songs performed by Pantheon names... this is truly Special.

Every episode is a gem, but now and then something magical happened when certain singers were brought together and the show unfolded like a dream. This is one of those magical episodes. Those were the days when record companies fought to sign real talent, not just T&A shakers.
I don't think of myself as a country music fan but I really liked this show. The country songs of the 60s and 70s are the best. They remind me of my youth. There was always a mix of country, rock and soul songs on the jukeboxes back in the day.

Loved The Midnight Special. Great Collection of artists. True country singers. Real talent. No special effects or wild costumes, just great music and country stars. I grew up listening to all these country classics. The Midnight Special was the best. Waited for this show every Friday night. Always awesome.
Priceless Music. Irreplaceable!!! Todays music is all about themselves. These people really care about pleasing the people that came to see them, not just for money!!!
How wonderful that these programs were recorded live. I love hearing the performers voices …the beautiful gifts they were given and so generously shared with us.
Marty and Tammy should have had their own variety show after this !! Great chemistry, hilarious banter. Marty was a huge talent that left us way too early
This was an awesome show! Each performer was a heavy hitter ... a star. They are all gone now except for Tanya Tucker and Johnny Rodriguez ... and Country Music will never be the same.
My Mom loved Conway Twitty. WOW.. I dont think i heard this song, You've Never Been So Far ....in 50 years! I can still remember her playing the record. Really enjoyed watching this. I was 8 when this was shown. Parents would watch these perfomers on TV. Had the records. SAD, to think almost all passed away. Only Tanya, and Johnny Rodriguez are still alive today, I believe. Great music never dies.
Wow. I remember this. Only Tanya is left. This was country music. Today they all have hats bigger than they are and sound like pop singers with a steel guitar and a twang.

Unbelievable this was 50 years ago and to me probably one of the top shows of my lifetime - I was 17 when this aired. Marty & Loretta Super talented are my all time favorites but this night had major talent but that's what made the Midnight Special so great was the musical talent every weekend. I don't think any music shows has ever come close.
I was lucky enough to see Marty and Merle Haggard back in the seventies and my son just was fascinated with Marty's yellow canary suit and boots never will forget that night
