Next-Gen VATSIM/IVAO Competitor? POSCON - First Look & Installation Tutorial! Give it a go!

- POSCON - the Positive Control Network labels itself as the Next Generation Flight Simulation Network and takes on the legacy big boys of VATSIM and IVAO.
In this video, I take a first look and install it blind, making my way through their program/website for Pilots and share my thoughts and opinions.
POSCON prides itself on being realistic and immersive, and has a fresh modern user interface too which is a huge improvement from the - what seems to be - very old look and feel of VATSIM. Furthermore, it runs quicker too! Less latency means we can see each aircraft flare as the pilot does so in their own simulator more so than we would with the slightly laggy VATSIM servers we currently experience. One other pointer is the fact that POSCON is voice-only. There is no text client except for the CPDLC system on their site which is used during flight.
They also require you to monitor the Guard frequency throughout the flight as well via COM2 - some nice realistic touches which aligns POSCON more towards the old saying "as real as it gets".
The biggest issue with POSCON currently? The lack of users! It needs some more love across the community. More controllers, and more pilots. POSCON is sponsored by Aerosoft - so has the backing of a mega firm within flight simulation too and from what I've seen today, it actually seems quite good!
Of course, VATSIM are now generating Velocity - a lower latency server aiming to bring the network into a more modern flight simulator world - but I absolutely feel that POSCON is worth a try!
So, whether you're on MSFS, X-Plane, P3D or FSX, head to poscon.net/ , create an account and give it a go for yourself! Share your thoughts in the comments below of course and be sure to click the Like & Subscribe buttons too!

I think, the online community should not to be further splitted, it has to be a fusion between the networks.
Fusion across different sims and different networks? Yes
Seems quite interesting however I find it a bit sad since this will now further split the number of people between the online networks. I however doubt that it'll manage to overtake Vatsim especially with Velocity around the corner. For IVAO, it might just depend on the sim accessibility and user-friendliness as well as the model matching. I'm definitely still excited to see where this will go. I really like the launcher design for example and would love to have that for Vatsim.
Indeed - VATSIM has been around for as long as I can remember (15+ years?) and likely won't be caught but competition is a great thing. There's suggestion that velocity only came about because of POSCON appearing 😂
yup round the corner alright, check the vatsims new video.
Becoming atc at VATSIM is the hardest thing second to losing your virginity and I’m ATC irl

Very smart looking user interface, looks pretty intuitive. As mentioned, competition is a good thing, so here's to both POSCON and VATSIM developing further.
Man, I was messing with POSCON all day, and didn't realize you already posted a video this morning. 😊 You are on top of it! One thing to mention, you have to be on the CTA frequency listed on the flight plan for your departing aerodrome when you take off or the flight plan will not activate, so don't switch over to the airborne frequency too soon. I thinks it's way better than even Vatsim velocity, but if it doesn't have the amount of users of vatsim it won't matter how smooth everything is. You have to have the traffic. Much better for beginners with the ghosting option to learn the ropes and I
love the interface. I really hope it takes off. I will do my part!
awesome! as you say it needs people to connect and enjoy it for it to really come to life. always nice to have another option for people though and competition of course too (their devs will suggest velocity wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for them reacting to the existance of poscon!)
I'm gonna use this to learn on. LOL
@@angerissuesvet hopefully you enjoy it 🙂
@@angerissuesvet I highly recommend it to learn on. I was flying out of Dallas fort worth and they had ATC. There was someone on the network learning the ropes and the controller walked him through everything and was very patient. I know that happens on vatsim too, but it was awesome. Good luck!!
They need to find away to link vatsim poscon and ivao into a network so we can pick our own softwear
now there's a modern day suggestion!
It looks rather sleek and could possibly put a slight dent in Vatsim. it looks more user friendly aswell! I hope to join a live with you and if you get your VA going and you need a pilot … can’t wait to see how it pans out for POSCON 🤞
Probably won't be an official VA but if you're in discord everyone has a reserved callsign for then to use upon request
@@BritishAvgeek probably the easiest way instead of the hassle of running an official one. I’m trying to get into the habit of live-streaming flights as-well on UA-cam
Nice to see a video about POSCON. Vatsim hopefully takes note from this new network. Bu tI think it needs a bit more people on it otherwise it's a good network. Good video with great explanations :D I noticed you missed on the prefile website of the flightplan the aircraft registration has to be correct. For some reason some are not possible and I just report it to them but just fyi.
Yeah the aircraft reg needs to be correct too so in the instance in the video it would he GTTNA but easy to change 🙂
Very sleek UI and the ability to generate a squawk and ask for some form of clearance when there is no ATC online is a definite positive vs Vatsim. Just needs a stronger userbase to coax more people in. Vatsim will always be superior but their tech is aging a bit with there look and abilities needing some updates to start competing with these new guys and girls coming through.
Exactly - competition is great but POSCON is definitely worth a try
If enough take part then the network will slowly light up 🙂
Sorry British avgeek great video and very informative as always
Enjoy your Handel mate
the best sim network!!!!
It’s cool but it’s like IVAO less experienced controllers and pilot. Only way for this network to get big is all the huge streams switch to this network permanently (Not saying your small channel). But If this network grows Ill be sure to check it out
The lack of traffic on the network is a big issue really but it's trying to grow, and competition is certainly a good thing. Pilots needs to show competency on POSCON and there's a feedback rating system too plus auto-ghosting for certain things against policy which is quite good (simpler moderation).
So Voice on VATSIM via Vpilot has a potential range of 15 to 20 miles. If you can only use voice on POSCON to announce, I'm wondering what is it's range? It might not be helpful if it is only 15 miles or so. Just a thought. Great video. Looks like an interesting option. Take care - Lee
You have en-route frequency of 123.45 to monitor above 10,000 then below that you'd be looking to tune to the relevant aerodrome frequency or whichever is appropriate to announce that you're inbound - range wise it works the same as VATSIM from what I understand. Always worth checking out - nice to have an extra option for a network too with low latency
@@BritishAvgeek Thank you for your kind reply
The voice on POSCON is realistic, meaning it takes into account terrain and atmospheric conditions, and implements physical characteristics of electromagnetic waves propagation.
In short, range is not limited like legacy networks.
More support we give it the better the options when ivao is lacking in traffic and when vatsim becomes too busy
The UI is fantastic along with a lot of thought behind it all
We just need a purpose built AI traffic injection AIG takes far too long hoping just flight have looked at all the sim atc providers
it's always worth a try for most I'd like to think - some might prefer it. I do like the little bits like en-route "fingers" monitoring of 123.45
I don't really agree that competition is a good thing in this particular case. What would be better for everyone, is if we were all in the same single world, and not split across two, and now potentially three, different worlds. We pilots fly in our sims and we need ATC to control us, why can't we have just one standard platform to do that? I mean do the ATC in IVAO act differently to VATSIM, if they are both replicating real world ATC then they shouldn't.
I see your point but some won't use Vatsim out of fear of messing up, so go to IVAO but now we have POSCON as an option too. It would be great if it was all one network but they're created with different outlooks on what each network should be able to achieve.
This maybe a stupid question but are the controllers the same controllers as those on VatSim. Only just started using VatSim.
not at all - good question! The controllers are entirely different - but still need some training for each level of ATC via CBT.
Can you use it in vr with out taking your headset off .Thanks
what are the models you added in for the Poscon Network?
Models? It uses the same modelmatching set up that Vatsim uses so if you have Vatsim model matching working just put the vmr as shown in the video here into POSCON and it'll work the same way
Of course now all these old programs like ivao/vatsim will go away and there will be something much more modern, the question is timing.
How long did you wait for a verify email I be messaging them tomo and do you use this alot as really want to get onboard as long wait for vatsim atc training
It took a few days from memory but I've not even got round to trying it out yet!
Does it have alive map to see who is where flying or ATC?
Yep it's on the poscon website 🙂
This looks cool but it actually sucks for the overall virtual ATC and flight sim community. There are so many virtual ATCs now it has become a bit annoying and everyone spreads over to everything... I wish we could just merge them all together or somehow have them share traffic and ATC...
Problem is they all offer something different in the sense that you get different styles of users but Vatsim is very much considered to have the lion's share
it needs some work. been trying to file flight plan for about 2wks and haven't response from server. Tried going into discord and couldn't get any help. think I'm going to stick with VATSIM
Hmm I was able to file a flight plan and connect it for this video, then delete it too from the server
@@BritishAvgeekWonder if it's my web browser and double check.
What browser do you use? Because it works for fine for me on Edge.
yep that seem to be the problem. was using chrome. worked perfect after that. thanks for the help
How does this work in VR, is there an in game panel or something?
Sadly no there isn't so I imagine in VR it could be a little tricky
@@BritishAvgeek It’s the one thing needed, a true VR Vatsim client that’s fully available inside VR, good video though mate, thanks
How do I become an atc controller on poscon?
Fill out the Application and await an email :) forms.gle/tu6NbXVid8WAaNMVA
Does COM2 actually work in MSFS planes? I've never tried it.
It does in some like the FBW mod but it says where possible - so if you physically can't then you can't and you could just monitor the CPDLC 🙂
CPDLC contact me only works if you logged on to the controllers CPDLC authority. That will autochange when the tech is ready for that
Is POSCON dead?
Not that I'm aware of, just has a tiny tiny user base
It is
Yes. Just checked on Volanta and there is only 1 person flying on POSCON right now.
