As an IRL pilot I love Vatsim very much! The professionalism and dedication everyone gives makes me feel I’m in the air without even being in the air. Way to go everyone who’s in the community
Again, great video! Good to see some quality VATSIM-specific content. One thing I wanna point out and a question I get a lot is: What exactly are VATSIM Network supervisors and how can you use them? A lot of people think of supervisors as the people that can kick you off the network and always does that annoying check when flying long haul. But there is so much more to it. Think of supervisors as helpers. We answer questions people might have, resolve disputes and make sure people are withholding the rules we have on the network. But do NOT be afraid to use the "wallop" command (13:54). :) There's nothing bad that can happen if you wallop something, and nothing is "logged", put on your CERT etc. it is simply a way to call all online supervisors. :) As @AviationPro does here, try to include a brief description of your problem, including a callsign if applicable. In that way, the supervisor can start working faster, and prioritise his tasks. :) Keep at it!

Hey AviationPro, if center is the only one online at the moment and i'm at a smaller airport, Rotterdam for example, should I still ask him for clearance, Pushback, taxi etc? Seems like he'll be crazy busy if that's the case. I've been monitoring center some time back without flying myself but I didn't hear anyone ask for clearance.
Brooooo,I listened to ATC for an Hour at Frankfurt,and I tried my first transmission ever,I didn't have a flight plan filed,ok I'll file one,I did and I transmitted again,he didn't understand what gate I was at,then he tried to shut me up by making me enter another frequency,I left and felt very sad.

A weather engine is a separate addon which provides real world weather data in your sim. It was more necessary for Prepar3D and X-Plane. MSFS doesn’t allow 3rd party weather engines, and their own weather engine for live weather is, in my experience at least, quite good
tower instructed me to switch to unicom after takeoff. but i can see area radar control/atc is active. 1) do i switch to over to unicom as instructed and just continue own navigation (ie ignore area control)? ...i did contact the next control area/country i entered and they acknowledged me on radar and i was able to carry on till landing just wondering why tower didn't switch me to the level above.

Can anyone tell me where to go to QUICKLY get the route waypoint names you plan on flying? Say you want to IFR flight from Seattle to Denver... instead of just putting (KSEA KDEN) in the flight plan route and calling it good (Like the GPS does) you're apparently expected to include every single waypoint along the way... Every one of these I have found online is incredibly tedious and usually incapable of copying and pasting cleanly. Between all the radio frequencies and the opening/closing of the FSX window to make changes to vPilot flight plan, I've spent nearly 3 hours in VatSim so far and have yet to even TAXI to the runway yet. This seems like it would be a lot of fun but good god there has to be a more streamlined way to do this than the constant web searching and window changing I am constantly having to do..
I don't have a PC that is capable of gaming, nor have nearly enough money to build or purchase one. I do, however, have Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 on my Xbox Series S and I'm planning on getting myself a Thrustmaster flight kit (yoke, throttle, and rudder pedals) in the near future. I have a USB keyboard and a controller, currently, though I haven't tested the combination yet to see if the keyboard will work alongside the controller. Is VATSIM strictly for PC users, or can Xbox Series owners join too?
So one question I have is, what is a good Flight Sim Controller Option? I'm having the hardest time choosing something and I really need one. Thank you to anyone who gives me info :)
If you're not sure yet go with an Extreme Logitech 3d Pro, or check out some of Thrustmaster's Cheap stuff. (My suggesion is the 3d Pro). IF you're sure and willing to invest go with a Saitek x52 or x55, or go the extra mile and get the AMAZING Thrustamster Warthog (And if you pick it up, make sure to get pedals as well, like MFG Crosswinds).
I am a new VATSIM pilot. I would like to ask: is it possible to text ATC via an iPad? I can’t really make noises, but my FSX pauses whenever I click open the squeakbox.
My Vatsim Server just says “Automatic”. Is that something new? I just logged in for my first time, but didnt get any vhf audio. Checked all the normal items, so still trying to troubleshoot it before making my first flight
That’s normal now, make sure the frequency turns blue in vPilot. That way you can see if you are on an active frequency. Also make sure the audio inputs and outputs are correctly set with proper volumes

I'm just getting started, but I observe a lot. Before you connect to Vatsim be sure to read all the rules especially about where to NOT position your aircraft as you connect to the network. I use freeware VatSpy and vPilot. vPilot is the app that actually connects you into VatSim. VatSpy will tell you where there are active ATC's. There are other free alternatives. Start up your sim software (FS2020) and set your aircraft departure point at a gate or parking at an airport with active ATC, and it doesn't matter what you list for destination. Connect to Vatsim. You don't need a flight plan, and don't move your aircraft from parking. Start up the radios in the sim and tune to ATC frequencies noted in vPilot. You'll hear the radio chatter.
If only Delivery or Ground is online they still control all ground activity right up until you’re taxiing to the runway and shortly about to take off. They’ll then say something like “(callsign) no Tower online, no further ATC available. Monitor Unicom on 122.8, goodbye”. You then tune Unicom and announce to your airport’s traffic which runway you’re taking off from etc. Hope this helps!
Pls help i was told by atc to go direct to a waypoint that was not in my flight plan or fmc. How do i do that without deleting the whole flight plan. Zibo 737
If you click delete and then click on the last waypoint I your fmc before that specific waypoint it will immediately goes to the waypoint that is told you to fly to
I think the reason flight plans are required is because, in the real world, you have to book GA flights by contacting the tower directly over the phone. Obviously you can't do this on VATSIM, so I guess the flight plan kind of replaces this process.
It's just for the controllers to know what you're doing once they pop online. In the real world, at least at uncontrolled airports, you don't really file any flight plan if you're going for a quick flight, unless it's cross country I guess.
Well with all the knowledge I have now I feel that in the uk they aren’t that helpful at all and it’s a shame because they are there to guide us not babysitt us but guide us but yeah thank you uk atc .

@@matek2654 No. You can crash, nothing "special" will happen. If the other airplane has crash detection on, you can crash with other planes as well. But unlike what Matek says, you won't be "banned" for crashing - everyone fails sometimes. However, intentional crashing, simulating disasters, hijacks etc. are not allowed on the network. :)
Widzę, że kolega z Polski. Myślałem, że nie chcesz brać symulowania na poważnie, i chcesz po prostu się trochę porozwalać. Faktycznie nic się nie stanie przy kolizji. Symulatory niespecjalnie chcą symulować kolizje, nie do tego zostały stworzone. Po prostu bum, kolizja, i nie możesz dalej lecieć
well, getting all the programs to run is like rocket science, then finding out you have to do nearly a month of intimate training, just to play a dam game like fsx has put me off vatsim for life, its too complicated, its like brain surgery, not at all entertaining, boring as fuck to be perfectly honest, i didnt want a degree in quantum physics just to be a controller on a 'game', if i wanted to go through all that shitty training you have to endure, i would have just gone for a job as a real world controller. i wont be on vatsim again, EVER!

It’s a really nice environment for flying but sometimes doing the-same thing again and again is boring.
I ask myself the same question ever day as well.... Answer has been no :P

To load the night textures and lights, this is normal.

Can you restart your sim in a middle of a flight where you spawn in the exact spot you left a minute ago?

request vectoring instead if you can (a vector is a heading)

You just get banned from the network. You can't do that. It's not disaster simulator, but flight sim.

Widzę, że kolega z Polski. Myślałem, że nie chcesz brać symulowania na poważnie, i chcesz po prostu się trochę porozwalać. Faktycznie nic się nie stanie przy kolizji. Symulatory niespecjalnie chcą symulować kolizje, nie do tego zostały stworzone. Po prostu bum, kolizja, i nie możesz dalej lecieć

well, getting all the programs to run is like rocket science, then finding out you have to do nearly a month of intimate training, just to play a dam game like fsx has put me off vatsim for life, its too complicated, its like brain surgery, not at all entertaining, boring as fuck to be perfectly honest, i didnt want a degree in quantum physics just to be a controller on a 'game', if i wanted to go through all that shitty training you have to endure, i would have just gone for a job as a real world controller. i wont be on vatsim again, EVER!
