Great interview, Orny! I used to work at NBC back in the 80s and remember seeing Jay come in to meet with the execs. He was so quiet and low key. I love his story about working for less, which earned him the permanent guest host spot. His refusal to engage all the people who trash talk him is admirable. And what he did for the production staff by taking a salary cut was beyond generous. The world would be a better place if there were more people like Jay.

@@ornyadams You having the thought to pick up those car parts for Jay to identify was brilliant! I'll bet on most days, Jay would have been all over that. Just because he didn't happen to be, does not make it any less brilliant. Even the name is perfect. Fabulous! --- I do share and speak of your comedy. The closest you get to me is Sarasota. Jimmy Fallon was seen as the future of The Tonight Show by NBC.
The whole 10PM Leno Show was to eventually replace Conan with Fallon.
Weird Conan with his string dance, was not a fit on The Tonight Show.

    • @GenZIsDopeShit

That's kind of what happens when you live in inauthenticity. He talks about being a decent person, yet his track record shows otherwise.
The best of them have everyone in the general audience fooled, but they can never escape from the fact that they cannot even fool themselves. Just as they cannot do to the ones who see through their act.
