    Over in the US they have brand new rebuilt / strengthened DSM eclipse gear boxes to handle 600 plus whp which are identical to Evo 3 drivetrain. Also the GSR cc gearboxes have slightly longer gear ratios then the 3 and it will finish the 1/4mile in 4th gear easy, where as with the Evo 3 you will most likely need to change into 5th right before the line depending on what mph you’re making and it’ll slow down you ET/MPH of course. The gsr box is also a little stronger most people say. Another option is to send your gearbox away to a place who strengthens standard gsr / Evo 3 gear boxes. A guy in Sydney does it for 1600 dollars full strengthened gears. (Should be a few shops in Melbourne who do it) I’ve got a gsr cc with a 2.3 stroker running 350wheel kws for 3 years now and still haven’t broken anything. (I’m careful in 4th gear as it’s the weakest. In saying that, I had a 2L in it for 10 plus years trapping 115mph 11sec passes all day and never broke a thing. A standard Evo 3 / gsr box with a 2L will be fine for the street / strip. I never did any track days in it though so I’m not sure how it would hold up on a circuit. I would usually hit it above 4k in the higher gears to keep the low end torque from blowing the higher gears. I’d just strengthen the stock box if it were me. Dog boxes/sequential are just horrible on the road. I’d never get one. A Strengthened or even a standard rebuilt gsr / Evo 3 box will be fine if you drive is wisely and can easily handle enough power to run 11s all day and destroy anything on the road ;) Good luck guys 👍

      the best gearbox in these is actually a brid between evo 1-3 and cc gsr you put the talleevo 1-3 /gear then et the aus spec gsr 3rd 4th and evo 5th ( ithink maybe you use evo 3rd as well) then you put the gsr 3.505 in.either way it's a hybrid box that results in much lower hiway rpm in 5th

    The biggest issue with having stuff injection moulded is the cost of the dies. Something that size would be astronomically expensive, think around 20-30k in Canadian pesos. Just my 2 cents

    FYI on why it's hard to re-manufacture parts in plastic. It's cost. Put in perspective. a Simple bottle for a consumer product is sold at say 25-30 cents etc to the customer. Who fills it with product and ships it and end up at coles or wollies for $5
    Yet the Dies for the product and other items will cost anywhere from $5K to $25K to on some mega constant made hi volume items 100K . but then they will make every 12 seconds 10 bottle or 20 bottles or items. 24/7. so that 30cents adds up.
    From memory the Injection Stretch Blowmould Coke bottles are done at under 1cent cost. At one stage maybe have succeeded to 0.1 cent due to imported preform plastic from China.
    Just the moulds for a injection machine made for your car part, or other and all car parts . It is fine when they are new and they make say 10K and sell on cars. Or they make 100K cars and said product. but low volume? It's why Aston Martin DB7 uses Mazda 323 Astina BG taillights.
    It's all cost. Plastics are a lot cheaper than before but still one change without people realizing it is, simpleton designs.
    Look at 80's tail lights has shapes and contours and varying surfaces. but 90's they were smooth and less complicated. That is cost cutting. Like plastic lenses over the glass.
    The cheapest way to recreate it would be in a low cost wax or foam mould. Then use the mould to create a FRP version. Even possible use the mould to create a Polyurethane version if you have -plug to form it's other side. that would be closer to the more flexible LDPE or PP version
    3D printers might be the way but until they are more common in sizes large enough to make large size parts.- They are out there, just not affordable yet.

    You can bolt a gsr box into a vr4 not the other way around. Evo 3 gearbox runs double synchro 1st and 2nd gear. Stock box should be good for 400hp. Remove air flow meter run map sensor, temp sensor and wideband oxygen sensor through maf sensor inputs

    ECU with torque limiting is how you don't blow up gearboxes. Remove the big spike in torque just as the turbo spools, that's what all the OEMs do. That and mechanical parts such as rubber donut drivetrain couplers, clutch delay valves and so forth to limit shock loads.

    • @fullboost
      @fullboost  4 роки тому

      Yeah but where's the fun in limiting what the old girl can do :)

    • @tmmtmm
      @tmmtmm 4 роки тому

      @@fullboost With the torque limiting it is more driveable too, because it carries more constant torque from spool to redline. If you start with an engine that delivers 400Nm @ 3k and 300Nm @ 6k, then remove torque limiting so you get 500Nm @ 3k and still 300Nm @ 6k, you're more likely to just break traction (or the gearbox) at 3k and then bang limiter. An engine that varies wildly in torque vs rpm will have you jumping on and off the throttle wildly under low traction conditions. An engine with constant torque you just back off the throttle until you regain traction, then hold that amount of throttle through to redline.

    As far as that lip is concerned a company in West footscray called entegro , ( also supplied the rubber and metal foot pedals and fuel nozzles for holden and ford,when they were around ) they can do it and all those companies which make rubber or plastic mud flaps from the trucking industry can do it, it will cost a mint though,but then the more you make the more you can sell, its that simple supply and demand, if the demand is there, then go for it. :)

      Pretty much. there is significant 'up-front' cost to produce moulds for injection moulding. But once done, the cost for each copy is penny's.
      Same is true for sheet metal stamps. What you really want is to get hold of the original masters. but not much luck in that. But that's how much of the Australian classic holden / ford reproduction panels are made. Rare-Spares bought the masters and now stamps them out.

They where used also transverse in the smaller quattro and 4motion cars with 4WD and there is a verry big aftermarket for them aswell as a big variety of gears and LSD for the gearboxes. They can also handle up to 300kw with stock internals and a stock gearbox especially the 02M gearboxes or you can use the diesel ones they are verry long. But idk if they are as common in australia then in europe though.

      @@fullboost Its probably cheaper to get them 3D printed in ABS plastic than anything else. As long as you find a company that can print within the correct dimensions. Around here they charge based on the volume of plastic used in the print, I reckon a newly printed one would go for a couple hundred US dollars. I have a E3 lip I would like to have remade some day in ABS. I think the future will be better for producing one-offs.

    I’d do the late model engine swap, less hassle and more parts available. Sell the old setup to recoup

      Late model 4gs do not fit the chassis.

      Yes, it would be quite an expensive process but would be a killer result.

    How much power are you planning on making? I have an Evo 2 box with the end float tolerances tightened up and handles 400hp atw no problem.

      Do you do track days with it? Cheers.

      I doubt I'd ever go past 300kw/400hp atw. Would like to keep a broad powerband. I've read many say 230-250kw and track days and goodbye 4th gear.

      I haven't with this current setup as it's apart getting some work done. Done 1/4 mile stuff. But also had vr4 with similar power for track days without an issue.
