Well that was frustrating. The 2nd drummer on the LZ Ludwigs hardly played the toms. I've noticed that some of the drummers in these series don't choose very appropriate things to play in order to demonstrate the entire range of sounds these kits offer. They seem more interested in showing off their chops rather than making a functional video. I'm also surprised the producers of these vids weren't more aware of this as well.
Hoops make a big difference too. I bought a Pearl Crystal Beat a few years ago. It comes stock with 1.6 mm triple flange hoops on the toms and an acrylic bass drum hoop. I replaced the toms with 3.0 mm hoops and the kick with maple hoops which substantially improved tuning, tone and projection.
Exactly! If you are doing a drum "shoot out", all things need to be the same; same heads, Same running, same mics and placement, same room, same sticks and same drummer.
the problem with the videos in this series is most of the drummers spend too much time on the snare and cymbals and hardley anytime on toms which is usually the most defining difference between kits, then there is tuning and head types
Good video......the C&C Custom kit , I thought sounded the best. I have enjoyed playing a Tama Silver star Mirage kit for 6 years, and I love them. They sound very good also, are low maintenance, and once you tune them correctly, they almost never go out of tune. Even after a long bumpy ride to a Gig, because the bearing edges are perfect. You don't get that with wood Drums. Also the price was very reasonable. T Y S.R.PURDY 🥁 GOD BLESS
I have a Ludwig 'Vistalite' kit from the original series, 1976 manufacture with the blue/olive badges. Clear blue. Picked them up because I always was fascinated with acrylic drums and surprise, no cracks! I found that acrylic drums are loud, open, and project extremely well. Oddly enough I'm currently using the Vistalite kit in a church praise band environment and I do have to use some restraint in playing them but they are working well. I remember Floyd Sneed from 'Three Dog Night' playing an acrylic kit and that's how I got the bug for acrylic drums.
You guys definitely missed the Pearl Acrylic crystal beat that cost under $1500, and sounds as incredible as a Ludwig Vistalite, Tama, and Dw Acrylic. 🤘!!
I think the C&C guy did the best demo because he used the toms a lot, it was hard to get the full sound of the drums because not all were mic'd and even though I know what a good set sounds like unmic'd I would have liked to have heard them all on the same level but that being said I liked the C&C the best. Years ago my buddy had what we called his Captain America drum set because it was a Ludwig Acrylic kit that was red, clear, and blue. Thanks for the video
If value for money is a consideration then you really can't go wrong with the pearl crystal beats, and the range of colours they do is awesome, also if you can find one the natal acrylic kits are very affordable.
the guy playing the pork pie and the gentleman playing C&C custom did a superb job of showing how the Tom's sound at different levels different speeds and different rhythms that is what a demo should sound like my hat's off to you guys. as for the other guys I stand by my earlier comment
i own a ludwig vistalite kit, and play out with it often. every once in a while i will go back to one of my maple or birch kits, but those kits just don't cut through the band like the acrylic kit. and you get volume for days!!
I gotta give it to the CC. I've not been much of a fan of acrylic drums. I like the warmth of wood, but that CC did sound really nice. I was really impressed with the kick and especially the snare.
Depends on who's listening. I really think I'd get bored with the loud flatness unlike wood that has more dimensions which you can manipulate with tuning or metal snares with different overtones like the brightness of brass snares or the mellowness of copper, Uhmnn... oh man know I wanna jam!
Loved all these kits. The ludwig definitely showed me a very bonham big sound. Would have liked to hear the toms though. Loved all these kits. The pork pie had more of the tom sound I prefer but not sure if that was a head and tuning thing though. I want Ian Paice tom sound in an acrylic kit. Ian's floor toms really get it for me personally. Would love to have all these kits though with all the tunings. That would be the ultimate
Way to demo the Ludwigs..Hitting the friggin snare only..Who's the genius behind this video? Why waste time to make a video if you're not going to do it right? Play some tom fills! Play some Bonham grooves! Anything but just the snare on 2 & 4. Holy shit..
hey, they don't do the demos. They just make a compilation with videos on the web! otherwise, they could have post a better solo.(sorry 4 my bad english)
I think the video segments were glued together for this display...each one originally made for another purpose. The Tequila Sunrise kit is a bad investment cuz you're the only one that wants to even look at it, and it might fit one and a half gigs.
Reminds me of the weird drums I'd come across growing up in the 70's. A friend had a fiberglass Pearl kit that was not great sounding, and at one point I got my hands on some ludwig blue acrylic shells and I thought they sounded like a toy rather than an instrument. So plastic drums came back around, and like plaid bellbottoms not my cup o tea.
Number one definately looks and sounds great. I'm sure that it's eye and ear of the beholder. I was surprised at the finish of No2 Drummer. I started watching and I'm like can he even play? Answer was pretty apparent after he sped up some.
Let's hear how the Ludwig Vistalite toms sound.......... Alright, I don't like to complain about videos, but this demonstration could have been executed a lot better. This is like watching a video demonstrating the performance of sports cars, with different drivers, one who races down a highway, one who cruises through downtown, and one who just leaves the car idling in the driveway, showing off how good the stereo sounds.
I'll out my pearl kit up against these any day. Lot of factors here. Heads, rims , mounts, mics. Let's run them dry boys for just straight up sound no mics. This still all comes down to preference. Your kit should reflect and sound like the style you play.
So let's get five different kits in five different sizes mic'd up five different ways in five different rooms with five different drummers filmed with five different cameras by five different people. Vistalites rule regardless.
Ludwig and sonor x-ray are grossly overpriced. The crush has zero resale value. The crush and drumcraft use MING shells. The Pork pie and CC are RCI starlight shells, not seamless and expensive. The seamless cast Pearl crystal beat wins across the board.
Best looking? C&C, although that’s just a copy of the old Ludwig shell pattern. Best sounding, gotta hand it to the Drumcraft. I might’ve said Ludwig if I could’ve heard the full kit.
Some of the smaller companies’ acrylic kits might sound good but given how finicky and prone to cracking they are there’s no way I’d be buying from anyone other than a big company for the sake of handling future issues.
I agree. But the same goes for the Silverstar Mirage. I own that one. Incredible good sound for a low price. Bought the 3 piece for a little over €700,-
Have to agree with the comments. Should have used the same drummer throughout. The sets played by the better drummers sounded better - what a surprise.
The guy playing the Ludwigs didn't even play the drums. He stayed on snare bass and cymbals. Also seems like these drums were all recorded in different rooms with different drummers playing them. Not a good way to compare. No Pearl Crystal Beats? Do they just suck? or what it's worth I thought the warmest and best sounding kit was the C&C Tequila Sunrise finish.
mhhhh this makes no sense for me. Well ok it´s nice to get an info about the pricing as well the brand but to decide which one is the one the could be the one is not possible. Different drummers, different way of playing, different micing, different rooms, different heads and so on.
what a croc. ....Ludwig is THE ones....the originals. all the rest are knock-offs. what are the criteria? no 2 sets were even the same as far as drum sizes and the beats applied to them. all you had to do son is post Moby Dick.....and the comparison ends right there
None of those kits come even close to the Vistalite, even with all the variables, the Ludwig's were louder, had a better tone quality, and just look better
What is it with all these acrylic drum sets I'm surprised that the PDP concept series was not mentioned in here I think they are the best bang for the buck and made by DW to boot.
the total hits on two toms out of three on the ludwigs, and it was a fast triplet. the drumset before and immediately after are all tom work. what gives?
when people do these comparison drum videos, I wish they would remove the cymbals and hi-hat. The idea is to hear the drum, not a little ditty on the cymbals and hats. Play around the drums.
I'm also surprised the producers of these vids weren't more aware of this as well.
popvinnik Its because the so-called "producers" don't know how to produce,
Atomic Surfer apparently
+popvinnik Just take the dickhead in the 3rd vid, it was all about the showing off and stupid gimmicks
Thank you for saving me 7 minutes!
Yeah that fucking douche bag really got on my nerves. The Ludwig kit wasn't even being hit hard at all & the mics were terrible on it.
I'd wager that 90% of the difference in sound we're hearing here is down to head selection and mic'ing.
yep. if its a 6-8mm acrylic drum shell then theyre practically the same.
The room plays a HUGE factor as well.
The funny thing is some of these drums are RCI shells the only difference is the badge.
what's with the nimrod on the Vistalites? how are we supposed to know what the toms sound like if you don't play them?
Ahahahaha "nimrod"!!!! Awesome!!! 😅🤣😂
2:51 did that guy just motorboat a snare drum? 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨
i was like "what" and then realized it was scott pellegrom. not surprising
Was that #3? My fave all the way for playing and kit. Room sound was great and helped for sure
the problem with the videos in this series is most of the drummers spend too much time on the snare and cymbals and hardley anytime on toms which is usually the most defining difference between kits, then there is tuning and head types
Hi Kevin, pretty insightful, we need more love for the toms, thanks for watching!
I really loved the sound of those toms on the Ludwig Zepplin kit. That 16" floor tom really boomed.
He barely played them
@@mitchellhughes5180 Maybe he was being satirical?
making a video like this with different recording circumstances for each kit is quite pointless.
That C&C kit sounds phenomenal!
Yeah, it really does. That kick drum could kill you! LOL. Death by low frequency kick drum!
That Vistalite Kick sounds absolutely AWESOME! HUGE,WARM.and IN CONTROL. LOVE THAT FEEL!!!
I think the C&C guy did the best demo because he used the toms a lot, it was hard to get the full sound of the drums because not all were mic'd and even though I know what a good set sounds like unmic'd I would have liked to have heard them all on the same level but that being said I liked the C&C the best. Pearl crystal beat?
Why do acrylic sets sound so fucking good?!?!
Dunno, but I LOVE THEM, that's for sure! :)
Depends on who's listening. I really think I'd get bored with the loud flatness unlike wood that has more dimensions which you can manipulate with tuning or metal snares with different overtones like the brightness of brass snares or the mellowness of copper, Uhmnn... oh man know I wanna jam!
FatedCircle
Except maybe the C&C kit, the DW Acrylic kit sounds better than all of these.
Be nice if the Ludwig demo guy hit the toms...
Pearl Crystal beat is a must definitely should in here at #1
Ludwig were not the originals. Zickos were the originals and patent holder of acrylic drums
That Pork Pie bass drum is fantastic. Love the C&C snare as well.
I’m glad someone did a video with coated heads on acrylic drums. I’ve never had any luck with any clear head...ever.
Tama Silverstar Mirage. Most drums for the bucks.
My Favorite is the C&C wow! i love those drums!
The guy from Drum Craft made my day :)
motorboated the fucking snare...XD that was awesome.
He made mine as well :D
RonnieTricker anyone know who it is???
+Sheldon Shannon yeah I want to know too
Scott Pellegrom
Loved all these kits. The ludwig definitely showed me a very bonham big sound. Would have liked to hear the toms though. Loved all these kits. For the money, the DW set beats these. Although, who wouldn't like to have any of them? Any acrylic set made by RCI Starlite is a solid choice.
G & C blown everything away, in this video! Such a deepest gorgeous sound...
Way to demo the Ludwigs..Hitting the friggin snare only..Who's the genius behind this video? Why waste time to make a video if you're not going to do it right? Play some tom fills! Play some Bonham grooves! Anything but just the snare on 2 & 4. Holy shit..
+Had Enough agreed. that one little lick he threw in hardly counts in a sound test. i don't really get it
Go check out the full video
The last kit sounds almost identical to the sound of zep acrylic kits especially the way bonham tuned his
hey, they don't do the demos. They just make a compilation with videos on the web! otherwise, they could have post a better solo.(sorry 4 my bad english)
Sweet water has a video the Ludwig I would suggest watching it
I think the video segments were glued together for this display...each one originally made for another purpose. The Tequila Sunrise kit is a bad investment cuz you're the only one that wants to even look at it, and it might fit one and a half gigs.
You guys should update this post to include DW and the newly released TAMA. Maybe increase it to Best of 10???
Reminds me of the weird drums I'd come across growing up in the 70's. A friend had a fiberglass Pearl kit that was not great sounding, and at one point I got my hands on some ludwig blue acrylic shells and I thought they sounded like a toy rather than an instrument. I've ALWAYS wanted to try out a C&C custom drums set.. soon darn expensive :/
Best demo, No. 3 No effin doubt.
And best sound. In my opinion.
I disagee but thats just my taste as a drummer
I wish these guys would just do a few whole note hits on each drum so you can hear the ring, esp. the toms. The guy on the Pork Pie kit did it well
Liked the Ludwig Zep kit the best
You guys should try having drummers play so we can hear them. Just a thought
I liked the drumcraft, though I would of liked to see tama mirage here
The funny thing is some of these drums are RCI shells the only difference is the badge.
Pork Pie, C&C and maybe Drum Craft are all RCI shells.
Holy drum masters 🙏 !!
My personal favorite is number 2. Nice and sustainy.
You cannot beat the sound of the Bonham sizes on that Ludwig set! Amazing sound!
I play Fibes.Remember Fibes.Billy Cobham,Joey Kramer.They project amazingly.
Tama Silverstar Mirage acrylic or
Pearl Crystal Beat acrylic ?
None of the above. i prefer DW acrylic design series
You should really check out SJC's acrylic drums. They make great kits.
#3 Made love to those drums
Whaaa!!... No Fibes! man Jon Theodore did amazing work on a Fibes acrylic kit.. sad not to see it on the list.
Saul Goodman I was thinking the same thing. Shame.
Eric Carr used a Fibes clear acrylic before joining Kiss and using Ludwig wooden shells exclusively.
I second the previous comment, it's not about your premadonna chops, it's about selling the product!
Mikimg and good recording make all the difference in the world but man those pork pies sounded amazing.
for me it's the Ludwig of course and the C&C kit but I prefer the Ludwig one
I'll out my pearl kit up against these any day. Lot of factors here. Heads, rims , mounts, mics. Let's run them dry boys for just straight up sound no mics. This still all comes down to preference. Your kit should reflect and sound like the style you play.
Always better to hear them in person
I’ll take maple over any of these.
Love the Zep Kit 👍👍🥁😎
So let's get five different kits in five different sizes mic'd up five different ways in five different rooms with five different drummers filmed with five different cameras by five different people. Vistalites rule regardless.
Who in the Sam Hell is that dude playing the Drum Craft kit??? Amazing! Well done sir!!
I think that’s actually Sam Hell. He was friggin ridiculous right?
@@jjfloyd618 😂
Ludwig and sonor x-ray are grossly overpriced. The crush has zero resale value. The crush and drumcraft use MING shells. The Pork pie and CC are RCI starlight shells, not seamless and expensive. The seamless cast Pearl crystal beat wins across the board.
Didnt know rci made them for those two.... and I thought rci was seemless... they do have incredible colors
Best looking? C&C, although that’s just a copy of the old Ludwig shell pattern. Best sounding, gotta hand it to the Drumcraft. I might’ve said Ludwig if I could’ve heard the full kit.
where is pearl crystal beat and dw design series acrylic and sonar acrylic
Honestly.... C&C is the only drum company that really competes against Gretsch for me.... I get so torn over which I love more.
Some of the smaller companies’ acrylic kits might sound good but given how finicky and prone to cracking they are there’s no way I’d be buying from anyone other than a big company for the sake of handling future issues.
@2:06 that was a really cool fill
You forgot the Tama Starclassic Mirage sir! :)
I agree. But the same goes for the Silverstar Mirage. I own that one. Incredible good sound for a low price. Bought the 3 piece for a little over €700,-
We know what the best drums are tama starclassic
no pearl?
Ludwig vistalite!
What about the pearl crystal beat kit?
Dang-me... the C&C won it for me.... Saaaaweeeet!
If you want to see a good range on the Ludwig Vistalite, check out Steve Gorman from the Black Crowes on the Into the Fog tour
Have to agree with the comments. Should have used the same drummer throughout. The sets played by the better drummers sounded better - what a surprise.
The drummer for number three was really good with dynamics do you know his name? He has the style of Scott pettlegrom or however you spell it.
When there are 4 toms and all they play is a rock beat with snare, bass, and hi-hat...
why put a massive reverb on the ludwig? you can here the drums properly...
It'd be nice if they showcased the drums rather than themselves. The Ludwig segment was a joke, he never even hit the floor toms.
Wow, the guy on the third kit was ACE!!! :)
You should try out Volume Drums they have acrylic drum kits and I have one it's amazing!!!
the pork pie drummer sounded great
The guy playing the Ludwigs didn't even play the drums.
This kits are probably for garage or basement drummers. ..please post top 10 pro grade drums
Were you RUSHING OR DRAGGING??????
mhhhh this makes no sense for me. Well ok it´s nice to get an info about the pricing as well the brand but to decide which one is the one the could be the one is not possible. Different drummers, different way of playing, different micing, different rooms, different heads and so on.

Whd gear for music make acrylic kits for 4 hundred quid, and with good heads they sound just as good.
None of those kits come even close to the Vistalite, even with all the variables, the Ludwig's were louder, had a better tone quality, and just look better
And they sound MASSIVE. That kick drum is unbelieveable.
What is it with all these acrylic drum sets I'm surprised that the PDP concept series was not mentioned in here I think they are the best bang for the buck and made by DW to boot.
the total hits on two toms out of three on the ludwigs, and it was a fast triplet. the drumset before and immediately after are all tom work. what gives?
Pork Pie sounds Great!
Are they going to play beats or drums
If you're gonna feature acrylic drums then maybe you should play the acrylic drums rather than just playing a beat on the bass and snare.
To the Ludwig Drummer: Hit the fucking toms
I miss my Zickos now!
Yep. Went and watched the video. About 6 bucks worth of plastic and a few old chair mats melted down. Some food coloring. And there ya go.
Dw design series? Pearl crystalbeat? Tama silverstar mirage?
Can we hear Ludwig vistalite toms ???
when people do these comparison drum videos, I wish they would remove the cymbals and hi-hat. The idea is to hear the drum, not a little ditty on the cymbals and hats. Play around the drums.
Pearl Crystal Beat?? SJC P!ATD Acrylic?
