I agree. I think many people don’t realize the amazing fact that we have so much audio and video of everything! Right at our fingertips! Honestly incredible, and a huge opportunity
@@AndrewPotterton Honestly I didn't notice too many "vocal gymnastics" in this rendition, seemed like he stuck pretty close to the Bill Withers version that he's covering, save for the falsetto part towards the end, which even then was pretty tasteful imo because it was just the final ornament on the song, no different than any other bridge in a pop song would be. Do you like, only listen to classical singers or something, like having each note as straight and un-modified and stuff as possible? Compared to what he normally does in his music, this was actually incredibly simple and safe. Imo the only "crazy gymnastics" gimmick of this song was that he changed key like every verse.
I listen to a lot of different genres, from metal to electro, from jazz to rap, from folk to classical... It's probably because I can't stay on something for too long. Yet his music touches my heart in such a way I can't help but come back to him every single time...
It’s fascinating to see so many comments with reservations around Jacob’s musical addition to the cover song. I agree not everything sounds “comfortable“, but the constant musical experimentation is what brought him to this level, and is pushing the boundaries of music this very moment. I would never take the trade-off of not seeing his musical progress by making him play more to the comfort of the mass listeners.

Anyone else feel that his singing is different in this video? It stood out to me as a little deeper and more mature than he usually sounds, and I’m wondering why? Maybe it’s the proximity of the mic and the fact that it’s unedited (just him and the piano and a really good mic)? Thoughts?
I started with a Casio CGP-700. Treated me well, you want something that sounds good out of the box. You don’t want something like a Nord Stage 3 that’s overwhelming. Your main concern if you’ve never owned one should probably just be learning how to play and what you like about it that way you can make a better, educated decision later once you get tired of your first keyboard.
Please dont buy a 49 key instrument. You'll need 88 keys - those small midi keyboards are mostly used for music production, but wont work well if you're just playing and learning
@@carlchristianaakerlund2005 No, it depends on what you're using it for. If you're recording multiple tracks and need a portable studio, 49 keys is great. You might even go smaller. Not everyone who uses a keyboard aspires to be a concert pianist.

Just casually has a bunch of Grammys in the background.
Love it. I just want Jacob to cover all songs is that fair? I think it’s fair.
Yes!!
It's fair.

take care of everyone
He takes anything and just finds a way to start flying into his own dream
Every version is therapy to me
that low "on" at the very end gave me chills
he's learning not to play all of his cards in every song! love seeing this kid develop
This
the thing is he has unlimited cards to play
He still does too much vocal gymnastics for me. Chill out kid.
Maybe a very astute observation...

I feel like the first key change was an accident, but then he was all, I’m Jacob Collier and I can make this sound on purpose.
