The 1st piece of equipment I ever owned was a small Husqvarna chainsaws I got for $5 with a busted pull spring I was 15 and had just started small gas engine repair an elective class at my high school and that was the 1st repair they taught us so I knew right away how to repair it that was 43 yrs ago
Another very nice video Don. I look forward to your clear instruction and your step by step methods. I have a pair of Husqvarna saws and have used one of them for 33 years. It built our log home. Peace
I have this same saw, hopefully I won't need this parts kit but it would make sense to have one on hand. Thanks for giving me the heads up on how to fix it!!
Donyboy, your video are superb! Professional attitude along with good clean content. I wish you offered a certification class in small engine repair. Stihl won't offer it to anyone outside of an based employee environment of who I am, by the way! God bless you and all you do to help me and others like me. God bless your family and your business!
Came across a similar one today. Came to the same conclusion after trying to adjust it a couple times, this one wasn't cracked as bad, but the nylon was worn. The short length of rope you can put on the recoil really invites destruction with this 'easy start' system, which unfortunately seems to be true for most easy start systems if you try to start it like a conventional professional saw.
Thank you, sir. So timely, too. Hurricane season is upon us and I had the same issue. I learn and understand so very much on your channel. Wonderful instructor!
Great video . I do the same figure 8 knot but I put the loose end facing inside then pull it right . Also mentioning the direction of the big spring 👍. Some parts look the same but only go one way .👏👌🇨🇦
a grouse and easy repair job done there Donny mate well done and that one fired up lovely and easily after the pull cord rotar was repaired for sure etc and cheers from Australia 🐨🐑🦘🌴 or the land down under to your area in Canada 🍁 and stay safe.
Your absolutely right about that they make complete junk!!! I'm still using a 30 something year old garden tractor to cut my property. The thing is still to this day a tank. With regular maintenance of course
Most times I pick up a used Husqvarna the owner is clueless about the easy to start and simply pulled too hard. Big box purchased so no proper instructions. These last a while when starting it proper
I know I have seen your videos before but when you steve and bree did those two videos that's when I subscribed I enjoy learning from you keep up the good content 👍
Great video as always. It seems like no matter what model, or type of unit , the plastic gives out first. I have 2 Husqvarna saws , I will now be inspecting. Take care.
I've had more problems with the clutch brake then the recoils. I hate that soft pull recoil crap. I wonder if you can get an aftermarket quill that doesn't have that junk?
Can you please send me the parts link? I didn’t see it in the description. I tried using the part number on the Husqvarna website but I couldn’t find it.
You mentioned that the no name ones may not last; but the OE did not last either. Any idea what may have caused the part to fail? Under engineered or just an errant compression "kick"?
I have a Poulan Pro PR5020 20", made by Husqvarna, so my Pull Starter may be the same or very similar. I'm sure that Husky Rancher costs a good bit more than mine, so cheap plastic parts may haunt me, but I certainly hope not. I have a large diameter, 6 foot tall stump at about a 60° slant into my yard in a back corner that barely touches my property line from a hurricane-downed tree and two more recent smaller whole tornado-downed trees to deal with, and possibly two large trees to take down, one very large with crazy long, thick and high branches. I doubt that 450 Rancher saw this much work, so I'll see how the PR5020 holds up. An organization came to deal with the hurricane-downed tree for free, but left this large stump because it is not on my property. I bought the chainsaw to deal with the hurricane stump, and possibly the two large trees, but now I have more to do than I started with. I bought an Oregon bar and chain because reviews said those that come on it are junk. I'll use them until trouble and then put the Oregon on. I bought a Stihl 3-in-1 Sawchain Sharpener to deal with sharpening quickly and easily. Another great one, Don. Thanks for all you do for us. You're the man! I can't afford a $28/month Patreon and don't see "Buy me a coffee." Are there cheaper Patreon options? The only other Pateron I do has a $4 option, which I do for him, and they go up from there, but I didn't see options on yours. I'd like to help you and your wife.
hi thanks for the comment, on Patreon you can contribute as you wish whether it's $1 a month or whatever. You can also use the Paypal donate button on my channel page. Thanks, Don
in the coming years we'll probably find third party durability increasing parts kits for those "planned obsolescence first" mechanical implements. or so i do hope... 😽
Why didn't you just pause the video one of the two times he showed the part number ? Or find it in the videos description where he stated it would be ? ( and it is ).
Just do a left mouse click anywhere on the screen. A second click re-starts the video. As a 78 year old I know what you mean about asking the grand kids. I've done that re: my cell phone. I've even asked random kids on the street !
So basically the failure on this pretty much brand new saw was a poorly designed part for the EZ start. They should sell a kit to replace the EZ start and make it a normal start. Issue resolved.
Perhaps the customer should be cautioned on how hard he pulls the rope on startup which is probably the root cause of all this. A lot of misinformed people think more force is the answer to every problem.
@@kevola5739 i'll add that what you call a "lot of misinformed people" is just what your regular customer base is and they, mostly again, won't change their mindset because _they_ know _better_ than you, mr. know-it-all salesman/mechanic... 😤
I bought one new, and this problem was only after cutting 3 logs. I took the saw to the dealer for it to be fixed and serviced. They told me it was my fault for starting the saw wrong. So I decided to test the saw after they fixed it just to make sure, so I proceeded to start the saw as per the instructions in the owners manual, and low an behold first pull it broke again. So I threw the saw in the dealership's rubbish bin where it belongs. Do not bother spending any money fixing this pathetic saw just throw it away and buy a real saw or even a Chinese saw much more reliable. Husqvana lift your game this is not acceptable
Easiest Fix on this Husqvarna saw is put it on the shelf and go buy a Stihl saw! These Husqvarnas are so cheaply made it's ridiculous and irritating! Husqvarna has gone downhill and Stihl is Stihl the best by far
Buddy, you work on small equipment for a living. Learn how to pronounce Husqvarna! It's "Hoosk-Var-Na." There's no letter "a" between "Husq" and "varna."

Wish I saw this last year.
I bought the amazon kit which included the outer casing. I may order that part kit as a back up.
Thanks Don
Can you make a video on your preference between Stihl and Husky? Please pros and cons

Whats the part number for stihl saws?
That looks like a part that could be easily 3D printed at home if one just had the file to do it.
Is that a update rope rotor or the same 1 will it happen agin if thay pull to hard
seems just as fragile!
You mentioned that the no name ones may not last; but the OE did not last either. Any idea what may have caused the part to fail? Under engineered or just an errant compression "kick"?
cheap plastic and customer reefing on the recoil
@@donyboy73 those wily swedes could have used glass reinforced plastic but _no go Pedro..._ 😹

What pliers did you used to unknot the rope ?

What brand and model of the pliers you used to untie the rope knot. Kinda looks like curved duck bills
Nice video
This is what happens when companies make parts out of plastic that should have been steel
Ce genre de petits problèmes avec des produits Husqvarna m'amenait à passer chez Stihl pour mes appareils de paysagement. Amitiés Don !
oui les recoils de Stihl son meilleurs que ca!
