Richard is one of the all time greats and one of my favorite. I remember as a kid my dad had Pryors "Wanted" album & during sumner break when both my parents had to work & I was stuck at home, I'd pull that bad boy out and listen to it all the way through. I was around 9 years old at the time but even then I was able to understand adult comedy
Richard's standup is WAY better than any of the movies. That's where he shines. If you had to describe him in one word, you could say "funny", you could say "controversial", but the best one word would be *"honest"* .
The mafia started in Palermo on Sicely, 1880-ish. Great story... it was all about oranges. Now it's about fashion. Check out the book "The Mafia: A Cultural History" by Roberto M. Dainatto. Peace on earth.
You thinkin' he's exaggerating? Nope. I'm from Youngstown, Ohio - we were third behind New York and Chicago in terms of mob activity back in the 50's through 70's - I think partly because we were half way between the Cleveland and Pittsburgh families and on interstate 80. There used to be something called the "Youngstown tune-up" - it was a car bomb. No lie. Friend of my brother's father was shot in the head in his garage; they were waiting for him. Who the hell knew what he did, crossed someone up no doubt. The Mahoning County (where Youngstown is) sheriff was convicted of taking money; went to jail and was elected to Congress while in jail (Jim Traficant - look him up). The mob was everywhere back then and it wasn't funny or trendy, just lots of violence and crooked shit. When I first moved away I was shocked to find out that all of the politicians in City Hall in my new city weren't on some crime family's payroll. Ah, the good old days LOL. It's better now, but they haven't been completely wiped out. Had an interesting conversation a few years back in an Italian restaurant; guy purported to be a "cleaner". I just nodded and smiled and was thankful that I was heading back out of town the next day. 😅🤘✌
Many many moons ago I listened to a comedy album and I thought ( being young and naïve ) this won't be that funny....funniest thing I had ever heard and to this day my absolute favorite comic ...oh the album was " That niggers crazy"...'79 concert a very close second 🤣😂🤣
Funnily I'm the same age as Brad. My handicap is not having children. I have no clue when I listen to young people. Strange enough I did know what my elders were talking about. Probably history repeating.
Instead of obliterating most of the screen you might get away with a simple X across the video.I know of an Austrailian lady who does this and UA-cam leaves her videos mostly intact.
Talking about how language changes from generation to generation I keep telling my teenage daughter to stop putting the word like before everything she says it drives me mad... I say we are in the UK not california!
When it comes to youth language and slang, did you find that these words would often begin in the bigger cities and then spread to the country? I think with the spread of social media and it's encroachment into the daily lives of kids, these movements of language can spread so much faster and over longer distances. This would mean that language changes more based on individual internet preferences rather than the slower, more natural movement of people and face to face communication... Just a thought
Richard Pryor walked the walk and talked the talk, RIP you crazy genius.

Live in Concert was the first time I'd watched his stand-up. He did a bit about hunting that I just remember fucking floored me.

Yes, social media drives language now more than ever. Good point.
