me too l remember their face, their energy, and how they made me feel. I'll remember how they styled their hair, how they smelled, or what they wore.
Also the sound of peoples voices always stays with me. I won't remember the conversations, but the tone and sound of their voice will be remembered and will stay with me. I'll recall all the little details but can't pin point a persons name.

As an ISFP I seriously appreciate the nonjudgemental honesty with which some pretty painful truths are delivered here. I always appreciate a straightforward, rip off the band-aid approach and prefer when others are willing to give honest, negative feedback if necessary rather than simply smiling and hiding their true feelings.

Oh, another "painful truth" fetishist? Haha!
The reason I personally disagree so starkly with this myth of the "painful truth" is 1. first, most of the time it's young, naive people who havent learned basic things about life YET so are taking the "painfulness" in for the first time. Whereas, older people or people who grew up way too fast basically already KNOW the painful shit and don't need to hear it wielding as a weapon for cheap, petty power play. Second- most importantly- I'm so fascinated by the WRONGness of it!! Throughout my entire life, when I encounter something that is true, I almost always find it to be relieving, comforting rather painful. It is only ever LIES that have been painful for me. Everything else: aging, death, taxes, grief- I can handle with perhaps even a secret hope that there's a way out of it. It's lies, always lies that are the most painful.

      Painfully.

      We do nothing about it.
A disease could sweep the earth wiping us out at any moment.
We are too greedy as a species to not destroy literally everything around us, so our best bet is to leave this planet and spread across the stars like a plague.
We kill each other for petty bullshit.

As an ISFP I've noticed that I am very interested in experiences. I almost throw myself (though not without anxiety) into new experiences and change purely for the value of growth that it will give me. I used to be super cautious about this- trying to observe other people while I was a child (possibly a reaction to my INT brothers observations of people and labeling them as "stupid" and my unwillingness to be looked at the same way) and not make similar mistakes. I've more recently discovered the value of learning lessons through your own experiences and how much more powerful it can be.
Also I've noticed that it is difficult for people to piss me off to the point of holding onto that feeling. Usually if I get mad at someone it fades within a few hours.

Oh my god! I just watched this video. CS Joseph, I am a full blown ISFP. I have always thought, since high school, that I was an INFP, but it makes sense now. You say that ISFPs can get very interested in the metaphysical, and we fit in nicely with the NFs. That is totally me. I have always been interested in the occult and meditation, divination, lucid dreaming, etc. Additionally, I do have a terrible memory. I have good memory when it comes to school, but I am terrible at remembering names, faces, phone numbers, my own address (I have to look up my own address...), passwords, events. One time I had a conversation with someone about having a bad memory, and they told me, "We had this conversation before?" "We did?" "Yeah about 2 months ago, you were telling me how you had a bad memory..." Also, I can totally see the group think, although I had not thought of this before. When I was a teenager my aunt asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up. I told her, "I think I want to become an accountant." She then told me, "You don't want to become an accountant. Accountants are boring people." I don't know why, but she got that in my head, and I started thinking... "I don't want to be boring. I don't want to be an accountant. Maybe I will figure something else out." It was years later that I got really mad at her for that, because maybe I would have been an awesome accountant, but she tricked me or talked me out of following one of my passions. Like yeah maybe accounting is boring, but in high school, I really liked accounting class...Ugh! I have to be very careful now what people tell me. Because I feel like their opinions can really influence me...

Same I wasnt really careful about my decision because I rely on what others say to me. Before I got to college, I really wanna be an architect because I wanna beautify structures, I wanna design a house and sign it with my name, I'm pretty hands-on with anything related to sketching but my civil engineering uncle told me that I can still do designing if I took the same course as his. I was afraid to tell them how much I really want architecture but I heard 'them' saying that it's too costly, since only private schools in our city has architecture. So I chose Civil Engineering instead and it's been such a pain in the ass. I was so naive that I didn't knew it will be so hard for me, math problem solvings, leadership, analyzation and really have to be innovative(which im not).I was so pressured because i'm the total opposite of what a CE should be. I act like everythings okay to my parents since they expect highly of me. I've failed a lot of times in my grades. 😭 It made me doubt my own capabilities. Ive always regret of not being assertive to what I really loved and ended up blaming myself instead.Even now that i'm already in my 4rth yr. Just one remaining year and iIl finally graduate.I'm still suffering emotionally, physically and mentally. My classmate often talks about me if Im okay since i seem super problematic and it scares them that i might commit suicide.
They pushed me to tell the truth to my parents and so I did.. but's already too late :(

@@randomnumbers84269 Group think, not group feel. Us ISFPs are much less likely to compromise our values, but when it comes to logical reasoning, ISFPs look to others. I've fallen victim to this. I've been tricked into believing something to be true because it gave "seemingly" good reasons for it to be true, for example giving statistics that are cherry picked, or conflating correlation and causation, etc. I didn't recognize the logical fallacies until someone pointed them out. I think it's important to note that part of growing up, part of maturing, as an ISFP, is to learn to deal with criticism, to even accept it and grow with it. Your description of the ISFP was very accurate to me when I was a teenager, but since then I've learned to deal with most of the more negative traits here. I value knowing the truth, even if it contradicts what I want to be true (identifying the truth, and how it's different from what I want to be true or feel good about being true, is necessary to creating the world I want.) I know how to be discriminating about group think. I know how to accept criticism (oh my god it's still hard but it's so important to do.) I know my memory isn't the best so I take measures to help myself remember the important things. I know I can't read peoples intentions towards me worth shit (although I'm a little better with control and exploitation because I've studied them extensively), so I keep Fe-types around to help out and am careful to communicate about those issues. I reign in the ti-demon when I get criticism and instead process the negative reaction until I can make use of the criticism. Etc etc. etc. you wouldn't ever have to worry about me inventing a crazy assassination technique to kill you because that would be unethical.
Anyways, point is, you said that we approach everything like a work of art, like a magnum opus. And that's true. But we're also primarily focused inward and our own selves are one of those things we approach as a magnum opus. I'd hazard a guess (I know this is true for me and am guessing that it could be true for other ISFPs as well) that our self IS our Magnum Opus, and that everything else is just an expression to explore and experiment to continue improving that.

I just started getting into personality types and I must say, it is an indescribable feeling to see that I am not the only one who feels the things that I do. I think am best described as ISFP, but am a little unsure. I like to consider myself easy to talk to and overall a friendly person, but when I am alone I tend to be very dark and sort of twisted. I have been in a relationship for 4 years and tend to be the more submissive one. I comply with virtually anything my partner asks of me. However, with anyone else, I feel the need to be in complete control. I like things to go my way. I consider myself to be artistic, but in unconventional ways. I have a deep passion for makeup, beauty, and clothing, and tend to dress pretty unconventionally. I tend to be very messy and disorganized, which I don’t understand because I really appreciate things that look nice. Something I’ve noticed about myself is I can only handle people for a short period of time. If I don’t get time alone, I become agitated and rude, but feel pretty guilty that I am being that way. I often feel as though I have two very contradicting personalities. I haven’t dug deep enough into personality typing to completely grasp it, but I hope to keep learning more about it. Thanks for the awesome & educational video!!

OK, OK, wait. You're talking about this conversation you had with one or two isfp's or some hypothetical situation that many isfp's brag about their amazing memory. I have always struggled with my memory and it's terrible. I forget names, faces, details about information I have read about, even common words, etc.. I would get A's in tests at school and literally forget all the info a few days later. I don't expect other isfp's to have as bad of a memory as I have, but don't say this is a "common thing isfp's brag about " since I've never heard an other isfp brag about this nor have I ever done that myself. Lol

I wanna know how you people know your friend and family scale?? I am ISFP. The memory part makes so much sense. I would forget something when someone bring it up but if I'm alone later that day or that week I'll totally remember everything. It's like my brain stored it somewhere else and it didn't wanna come out at the time it was brought up.
I also like to do what I want and I do get ragey when I feel a loss of control or if FAIRNESS comes up. Sheesh. And I also find myself not liking to small talk or share inner feelings or thoughts with someone my spirit don't take to

I dated an ISFP for 9 years and he made me *so" much beautiful art. From a crow weathervane for my barn to bluebird houses to a yin yang depiction of my horses.
I am ISTJ and it bothered me when *he* would decide what I needed as art rather than asking me. And I am well aware of the rages they can throw when being criticized (much like how a narcissist behaves). I wish him well and I hope he finds a better-suited type for him in the future. :-)

It doesn't matter what proof she doesn't have, I have to consistently talk her out of spiraling into believing that everyone is a crook out take advantage of her kindness/morality which I suspect she is self-conscious of as her weakness. she's very concerned about what other people think of her and just in general wants to make other people's experience a good one as much as she can. she has a bad memory in the same way you described it; she will only remember how that situation made her feel causing her to remember it differently sometimes.
she is probably the scariest customer because if she thinks you're treating her unfair or if your company policy is unfair, she will get very angry and might even get you fired.

I'm always so harsh on myself because I just don't have strong opinions on things/events (Ti demon?) I tend to simply observe them for what they are and gather as much info as possible. I'd never give a polarising opinion in a group setting (Te Inferior?) at the risk of being judged for it. I always run my team events at work and make sure everyone engages and has fun (Se parent) even though I'm quite nervous to do so. I'm a natural musician across 5-6 instruments and played a high level of cricket here in Australia (both Se parent?) both of which came with enormous performance anxiety. I'm still not sure what my type is but this vid has resonated with me the most out of all CS's vids. I may just be an ISFP...

i used to think that my favorite thing to do is to sit around and think about philosophy but i think that's just me thinking too much back when i was depressed. also, all my life i've been known to cry very easily lol and i got SHAMED FOR IT and i felt so bad about it that i actively repressed my feelings.
i've had an awakening lately and i'm letting myself feel things again and i'm finally doing things i enjoy again
i know now that i do like to sit around and chill but i also love to sing, play the piano, decorate my room, listen to music, eat good food, freedive, run and rock climb. annnd i do love astrology/tarot/new-agey-spiritual stuff like past lives and things like that lol

As an extension about sharing inner thoughts, I would sometimes share my failings with others, even if it would make me look bad.
This is because I want others to see me the way I see myself (Again, wanting that consistency between my inner realities and my outward expressions). I do not want people to see me through a distorted or idealized lens. If others love or care for me, I want them to know who I truly am so that they can decide for themselves if they want to care for me as I am.

Here is the work of the ISFP artist, who brings their sensitivity of the physical work in a work of art for us Se users to enjoy: We had lunch on the waterfront in Belfast, Maine. The pier was a working parking lot, but the rustic setting was so pastoral with pink annuals planted in an old row boat overlooking the view and black petunias in the window boxes offset by contrasting greenery in lime greens, placed to block the cars in the parking lot, and rickety old boats lending movement in the bay. I learned that this kind of setting can be just as beautiful as a stunning mountain range. Then there was the contrasting flavors and textures of the food.... You can make something from nothing, and the physical world is oh so beautiful. I really appreciate the physical world. I love artists, who have a sensitivity to what is beautiful in life and who bring it to us to enjoy. All of it awoke my senses and made me appreciate the physical world. The concentration of gifts in that single place brought it...excited it...intensified it.....and it didn't hurt that I had the vision of Cher singing "Fernando" about the thunderous canon making her cry going through my head, for I had just seen Mamma Mia II, a joyous movie.... "For what we are about to receive, may the Lord make us truly thankful. Amen"

I met a woman 8 or 9 years ago who was going into the field of mental health and therapy and she told me of MB tests and encouraged me to take it and finally just a few months ago I did and found that I am this personality type which I had no idea would end up being the artist type. I was very pleased to discover this because honestly I didn't and still don't know much about the different types but identify myself as an artist and have always considered myself this first and foremost above all other things going back to my earliest memories as a child. Even today, I am working on visual art and my biggest passion is making realistic paintings from oils which I see as the most important pursuit and objective in my life. Thank you! This was so helpful and I learned so much from watching this! Lastly, I also found the unconscious, sub-conscious, Super Ego stuff VERY interesting I am practically certain now that my girlfriend/partner is an ESFJ though I don't think she shares the same kind of enthusiasm about MB testing that I do. Thank you for your time and effort! It was a very short 25 minutes watching this..
As an ISFP, I do agree with everthing you said .. I am a software developer and my motivation is so low when I get assigned a task that doesn't rely on my imagination.. On the other hand, I become extremely motivated and hardworking when I get a task with a lot of freedom to add my touch (as doing a GUI without a prototype so I can get creative with my thoughts)
Just to confirm that being artistic can be applied to all sorts of fields!

My favorite art is when my dad made a bathroom in my attic room. It was a beautiful soothing seagreen with sandy tiles and creamy shower curtain. It felt like a hotel bathroom (though we had to wall it off before selling our house since qq haha) and I never accept gifts at heart (recession guilt) until later but for my 18th bday he gold pawned a heart charm bracelet for me and it was beautiful. 🙂 my favorite art is how he looked and played with us when we were tiny little kids surprising us, pulling tricks, and playing and smiling.

I appreciate the video. I’m fairly new to the MBTI, and was first typed as an INFP, but over time I realized there were many things that didn’t line up. Now I believe I’m an ISFP, and one of the many reasons was my terribly bad memory. I’ve really been shocked by how bad my memory is, and I don’t mind telling people. I have just chalked it up to all the preoccupations I have in my mind with my Fi. I appreciate you showing how it’s probably my Se that’s contributing to this.

As an ISFP it is true I love to do all the arts. I play piano and sing and like to draw. All my notes have doodles on them :,D
It is also true I like to take care of my appearance not for me, but for others so they don't bully me lol because before when I didn't hit the gym, do my hair and makeup, I would always get insulted so that's why I take care of it.

You are brilliant man. Thanks for your insight.
My ISFP brother is very forgetful. He literally walks out of the house and drives away - then comes back in 5 mins forgetting what he left in the house. This has happened thousands of times.
He is a musician / songwriter. Brilliant guitarist - Can do things with a guitar that push the limits (like tapping the strings in a beautiful and harmonic way, but holding the guitar in a strange angle in order to achieve it). I think Jimmy Hendrix wa an ISFP, wasnt he? My bro does that kind of thing too.
He once found a cave and noticed that the wall of the cave had cup sized holes in it that he could make a sound from if he slapped his hand over it. He then noticed the pitch for different holes and made a song out of tapping the different holes to create music. It was fascinating. Perfect rhythm. He paints like a combination of Van Gogh and Picasso.
He once told me a story about someone who stole is spot at a parking lot... it was as if his body just rose up out of the seat - uncontrolled.. he literally burst out the door and stood raging at the driver next to his window. The gap between feeling and impusle action is almost non-existent with him.
He's also a great liar. He lies a lot (from this INFP perspective). Maybe it has something to do with what you were saying about Se parent... his image is very important to him (unlike myself)

I'm sooooo glad I found your channel, I'm binge watching all over the place. I've had to sift through loads of videos to find a few channels that hit the spot. This was super satisfying and brain tickling to watch...i have seen other videos where types get slammed, but I think yours are genuinely complimentary, while shining light on those sore spots. There were a few items I want to further comment on soon, not so much to disagree but to "add" how some characteristics deviate a bit from what you were saying, like the momey/materialism part. I believe for years I mistyped as infj until I learned functions and talked to a few more familiar with mbti than i...yet some things about infj hit home....i believe I have weak Se and jump to Ni often, creating a Fi-Ni loop....or perhaps Ni/Fe can appear as Fi at times as I understand infj are strong in Fi, but "value" Fe.....but this is a whole different subject. Mostly I'm thankful for you putting what you know out there...really enjoyed.

You have some great points. The point about how we "feel" about things is so important. My main guide in making any decision is determining if it "feels" right to me. If I'm holding myself up to my own standards. I think its good to note that I feel clumsy at expressing my deepest thoughts and feelings verbally, I wonder if that is an ISFP thing as well?

  • @ippollite

Mum confirmed as ISFP. Growing up as an intp (and one of those hyperactive ones, not the quiet in their own heads ones), i drove her nuts. I still drive her nuts. She's all horoscopes and things, so i grew up just thinking she was an archetypal Scorpio. I havent finished this (ive barely started), but that rage, man. It's a long burn. I know i'm a poke the bear person "why?, but why? why that? But didnt you just say..." Terrifying when they pop. As an INTP, i never had that wisdom to know the 'looks'. So as a kid it was question, question, BOOM!. So im looking forward to figuring this infinitely loving, semi-patient, wise, opinionated woman out and how to finally figure out how to say the right thing so she knows i appreciate her.

Small tiny and slightly embarrassing story of the Ti demon. Once upon a time a poor hungry intp waif (13 years old - basic theft) nicked 2 pounds from his mums purse so he could (i suppose since it was his interest at the time), buy dumb NFL trading cards with random helmets the next day at school (it was taking off in the uk at the time) . Mum knew INTP had done it (INTP roped in far more moral and kind sister on the shenanigans - who also stole 2 quid). ISFP mum dealt with this incredibly rationally: Im going for a nap, if it isnt back there by the time i get back (im pretty sure all the ISFPs know whats coming), somethings going to happen. Well, 'shes an idiot. Whats she going to do... (sister immediately put the money back)?
Apparently, get in a car and turn me into roadkill after she chased me out of the house like a fekkin banshee (i have a vision of her running out with a frying pan in her hand, but i think ive made that up). Even at the time i never took this seriously. But almost 30 years later, she still believes she stepped into that car in that exact moment with the full intention to splatter me on her windshield.
Again, to be clear, she's a bit embarrassed (possibly even ashamed) by this (it genuinely feels like a confession on her part). As an intp though, its still funny, i'll never understand how close i was to death. I really love her though. Who else lets intp's turn their room into an absolute fekkin state and just think 'he's just an idiot'. We both think the other is an idiot.
I wish i knew what mbti was in 1987 (id have wriggled out of this easy peasy).

My mom is an ISFP, she has very artistic attitude on her clothes choices and taking photos, as well as massive mood swings. We used to quarrel so often due to her mood swings and going personal whenever I try to have a debate aka “what you think”. What’s even worse is, I’m an ENTJ a always start debates unintentionally and discards and definitely a thinker. 😂 And gosh, you were so true about the truth perception part, she’s pretty much all about emotions.
